well, I have read what many people have to say here, some say where were the during the subsidy protest, others say the Igbos are cowards who doesn't partake in any national issue. lets get some things straight here, Boko Haram killings and subsidy issue which happened first. why no body came out to openly condemn the killings except the Igbo man even though they are not the only tribe being killed by the bh murders. The sw are always quick to tell us how they fought Abacha's 'killer regime', they forgot that most them ran away when the chips were brought down. People like Agbakoba did not go to any where. it was an Igbomen who first call for the now infamous 'G36' (Ekwueme) which later transformed into pdp which was later hijacked by rogues. The sw will also remind us that it was they through sng that bought the acting presidency to gej's lap, but they all forgot that it was an Igboman(woman) that did the unthinkable defying the cabal in the same govt she served to say what others wont even murmur. And talking about fighting for injustice in Nigeria the sw has,had and have never fought for injustice but for power and relevance. Check your history. Sorry if I m generalising, some Yoruba are different, the late Fela, Gani and Falana(and others like them) are exceptional.Having said all these, I will like people to understand that as far as the Igboman is concerned the Nigerian state failed since 1966/67-1970. The Igboman believes that he has made more than enough sacrifice for this entity called Nigeria. In kogi state there is a political or tribal uprising among the Igbirras and their neighbors they destroy and loot shops belonging to the Igbos. when cartoons appeared in Denmark, Igbos were killed in northern Nigeria. When political parties clash in Lagos Igbos were at the receiving end. Yet no body raised an eyebrow. So many Igbos joined the protest or didn't watch them on the news. Even Chuwuemerie my friend on facebook was a very great motivator that motivated many people to join the protest but the fact that majority of Igbos choose not to join was an issue of different opinions. If you think you are fighting for cause I don't see reasons to fight why should that make me any lesser a being than any other person from any other tribe. The Igboman believe that there are other social injustices being carried out everyday in Nigeria so why single one out. When the time to fight corruption and injustice come the Igboman is usually in the forefront  (check 1967-70).
1. Igbos are not coward because I know of some Igbo Nairalanders that protested eg Andre uweh

2. The protest was not only about a common fuel but about corruption, boko haram, injustice to the ND etc

3. People are not happy at Ohaneze and the South-eastern governors for tribalising the issue thus making it useless

4. Most Igbo elements on twitter, facebook, NL, vanguard etc tried to actually discourage people from protesting and using words like yoruba and hausa people etc

5. The protest was also about the killing of Igbos/Christians by Boko haram. Notice to show solidarity, the Northern Mulsims formed human shield to Igbos and Christians when they go to churches

6. To be honest, all we did is to expect more from the South-east.

The can of warm is opening. You people are now knowing what I knew when I said "Subsidy must stop". Guess who sponsors waves of violence and mayhem as a distraction. Guess who sponsors demonstration in Lagos. Pat Utomi and the rest are silly to keep protesting for the wrong reasons if they hear these reports. OBJ will not die well. Apart from looting the country and opening farms in Ethiopia, he gave Oil Wells to Danjuma and allotted and liaise with Cameroun to share the Oil wells at Bakassi to his Child's name. He put a disfunctional Yaradua in power so he can not be probed and prosed zoning of presidency to make sure his next 16 yrs is secured. He obviously knew he will die in the next 16yrs and even if he is alive, what will be left of him will pitied to rot in jail. The greatest daemon Nigeria ever know is called OBJ

That's an excellent analogy. Unfortunately, the quality of thinking has been on a steady decline in this country for a long time. It's evident here on NL as well as in places like Aso Rock and environs. Too many people running around with mental 'half-current' or total mental black-outs. . .how can they see reason? It's dark 'up there'.
people are really funny in this country you know. Very funny people

I can tell you for a fact that MAJORITY OF them that support the removal at this time did it because of bigotry and thus they cannot justify what they support.

Was it not the same BEAF, Obiagu etc that were calculating to me how the money jumped up from 650 billion to 1.3 trillion that everything is right

Now the government found out over 600 billion naira was awoof money paid by the government and let me remind you that 600 billion did not reach this cabals o.

indeed funny people

Please learn to respect each other, no matter how little. A little respect would not hurt anyone.

Alhaji,

You are saying there is nothing wrong with price fixing and unjust profiteering?
My brother

I am saying that we have a regulatory body that is meant to ensure the prices of kerosene sales in Nigerian stations. If we do not have a regulatory body that is effective then why not remove them. Why do we keep paying billions to them as well while they are not doing their job and the marketers too make billions.

The price of petroleum products has always been deregulated in a sense because the price of petrol in Lagos or port harcourt or abuja would definatly be different from the price in maiduguri and co. Why ? Because of the transport cost etc Now the government was telling us that the price of petrol has always been 65 naira but we all know it is not true and they know it as well, They know that the regulatory body which they pay billions for has not done their job properly that is why you would find a place like nnewi sale her fuel for 80 naira per liter. Whos fault is that ? the government or the marketer ?

surly I don't like to blame the government for everything but yes this is their fault.

I very strongly disagree. This is exactly when we are supposed to turn on the heat. I do not see why a man should steal 5billion and be simply asked to refund it, while petty thieves die gruesome deaths with necklaces of burning tyres. This is exactly when our voices should be rising to a crescendo to strangle the bastar'ds that have defrauded the country.

Lets drop despondency for once and demand justice and punishment for crimes. If Ifeanyi Uba, or anybody else for that matter, is a thief, lets get them dealt with.
DUDE THEY ARE NOT CRIMINALS, THEY ARE BUSINESS MEN WHO TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION IN NIGERIA. EVERY SINGLE DEAL OF THE SALE OF KEROSENE AND CO IS WELL KNOWN BY NNPC AND THE MINSTER OF PETROLEUM. STOP DECEIVING URSELF

He should be dealt with alongside other oil criminals like Obateru, Otedola etc.
why what has he done wrong  huh

is it his fault that the government cannot keep track record of how much each filling station is selling their kerosene and co for ?

what is the job of  Nigeria petroleum regulatory body for  undecided

We need to becareful on how the government is brain washing people. There have never been a subsidy thief, there have always been business men that try to make best of the situation Nigeria find herself in.

If you as a business man sell ur car at 1000 naira but ur company asked u to sell it at 500 naira but u find someone who is gullible enough to buy it from u for 1000 naira, would you not sell it and keep the extra 500 naira ?

Is it not the job of ur company to make sure u sell it at 500 naira given that they would be doing periodical check up on ur stock and the price it is sold for.

@Nateev,
Yes she did the right thing removing the subsidy to understand the problem. Don't forget the whole mess started when the calculating Obj booted her from the finance  ministry in favour of Ciroma. How can we blame NOI for a fraud enthroned by Obj. Rather we should commend both GEJ and NOI for having the courage to expose this, even if they have chosen to do it indirectly.

As to why this fraud persist till now. Is it not obvious that time is needed to study the corruption before you expose it. And for that I still give credit to NOI for her decision to expose it rather than cover it up. It shows we still have people of integrity in government. HOPE IS NOT ALL LOST.

Now let Obj and Ciroma tell us the part they played enthroning this scam.
dude you are not making sense, just like she promised heaven in Nigeria 2005 abi after the largest payment in history of a sum of 16 billion dollars to for debt ? tell us that the 1 billion dollars Nigeria pay every year would be used for roads etc but infact went to over budgeted subsidy. Now subsidy is removed, it would go to the pcokets of the people in government

People need to stop listening to ur crap

PoliticsMassob Enforces New Pump Price In Onitsha by aljharem(op): 2:48pm On Jan 19, 2012
The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), on Wednesday, stormed petrol stations in the commercial city of Onitsha and forced the station owners to comply with government’s directive of N97.00 per litre.

A group of boys, numbering about 50 and operating on motorcycle popularly known as okada have been moving from one petrol station to another in Onitsha, the state commercial hub compelling the station owners to sell at approved pump price.

Many petrol stations in Anambra State, particularly in Onitsha, even the neighboring Asaba, the Delta State capital, have been shut down since two days ago when President Goodluck Jonathan announced N97.00 as the new fuel pump price. The few petrol stations which opened sold fuel as much as N200.00 per litre making a lot of residents to avoid fuelling their vehicles at such exorbitant price. This also affected commercial activities in the state as vehicular and human movements have drastically reduced.
