Yes she did the right thing removing the subsidy to understand the problem. Don't forget the whole mess started when the calculating Obj booted her from the finance  ministry in favour of Ciroma. How can we blame NOI for a fraud enthroned by Obj. Rather we should commend both GEJ and NOI for having the courage to expose this, even if they have chosen to do it indirectly.

As to why this fraud persist till now. Is it not obvious that time is needed to study the corruption before you expose it. And for that I still give credit to NOI for her decision to expose it rather than cover it up. It shows we still have people of integrity in government. HOPE IS NOT ALL LOST.

Now let Obj and Ciroma tell us the part they played enthroning this scam.

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), on Wednesday, stormed petrol stations in the commercial city of Onitsha and forced the station owners to comply with government’s directive of N97.00 per litre.

A group of boys, numbering about 50 and operating on motorcycle popularly known as okada have been moving from one petrol station to another in Onitsha, the state commercial hub compelling the station owners to sell at approved pump price.

Many petrol stations in Anambra State, particularly in Onitsha, even the neighboring Asaba, the Delta State capital, have been shut down since two days ago when President Goodluck Jonathan announced N97.00 as the new fuel pump price. The few petrol stations which opened sold fuel as much as N200.00 per litre making a lot of residents to avoid fuelling their vehicles at such exorbitant price. This also affected commercial activities in the state as vehicular and human movements have drastically reduced.

My opinion on this saga is that since NOI resumed in September 2011, she has been taking a lot of time trying to unravel the mesh that is subsidy fraud. The decision to stop the subsidy was the missing link in the mesh. Being able to come this far into unravelling this mess in less than four months is very commendable.

If these are the things they are protesting for, then it is comical. The soldiers are there as a prevention against anarchy and that is borne out by the some people protesting that fact. Its like a person gets involved in a fight, only to protest the presence of the police.

All the talk about soldiers in Lagos not boding well for GEJ's Presidency is neither here nor there. When the govt says people should get off the streets, then they should. We always talk about the right to peaceful protest, but many forget that police permission is required for a protest to be legal. What permission do those people have? They will be teargassed and will go home, and since nobody loves tear gas, they are unlikely to make defiance a habit.

I just read somewhere here that Nigeria imports crude oil for Kaduna refinery. I bet you that the refinery may even have been designed ab initio for foreign crude instead of Nigeria's crude, and I speculate that the reason may be deliberate (for political reasons, perhaps in case of a split). These folks would NEVER address the political foundation of Nigeria, but they will lead innocent and naive people to their deaths.

I think to be honest, the man gets little credit for what he actually achieved which was a little more than simplistically fight corruption. Do some wonder why Ribadu's international repution is now solid to the extent he is deemed the number one expert as per fighting corruption and monetary crime in Africa? You do not become a UN consultant on anti-corruption if all you do is lock people up. Ribadu went beyond that and literally followed the money because of his thinking that laundering channels must be sealed.  He was a visionary pioneer who put systems in place beyond Nigeria to benefit even other African countries.

He forged alliances and mutually beneficial arrangements with law enforcement worldwide.He approached his job methodically and as a thinker but gets virtually no credit for his superlative performance because many Nigerians never take time to gain knowledge that improves their understanding of what leaders are doing. I had to smile when some chap above broke everything down to rating the three on intellect. Ribadu is no scholar and he is not given to musing about issues as Sanusi and El Rufai do but he is a doer and very bright. You cannot achieve all he has below, to the praises of the entire world, without being intelligent. I just think it is in the genes of Nigerians to go around tying all-round ability to intellect. That is not how it is worldwide and indeed If that obtained in the UK than I would rate my former Uni lecturer as having more potentials than Richard Branson, Alan Sugar and others who are not the most studious yet have built business empires with very intelligent men working under them.
