"Money Is More Important Than Talent In The Music Industry, It Will Take You Places " - Niniola

Afro-house singer Niniola, has giving a piece of advice to the up and coming artistes as she said the music industry is beyond the facade that talent alone can guarantee a successful career.

The ‘Sicker’ singer, who released her sophomore album earlier than expected, said this during a recent media tour in the UK.

In a chat with Factory78, the singer said thriving in the music industry requires money more than talent and that upcoming acts need to invest in their career.

Niniola said;

“In 2013 I went for a competition and I became the third runner-up and I got my prize money. With the prize money I invested in my career. I sought out one of the best producer Sarz and told him I wanted a hit song and that’s when I met my manager.

“When you’re not in the music industry on the outside, you think talent would take you places but it’s not.

My manager told me ‘you need funds to promote and print CD jackets’.

“It’s a very capital intensive industry and so as an upcoming artiste you have to leave everything aside and invest in your career because at the end of the day it’s for you and you reap what you have sowed,” she said.

“Growing up in Lagos was fun. I come from a large family, I had cousins and relatives living in the house. We were up to about 30 or 40 living in the house at the time and obviously we couldn’t make our foods ourselves so we had cooks. It was like the Fuji house of commotion.”

“I listened to my parents records like Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers and Nigerian music. And that way I didn’t know I was training my voice by mimicking the voices that I heard.”

Niniola said she wasn’t one to write songs, much less her own.

She said;

“If anyone had told me ten years ago that I would be writing my own songs I’d be like ‘it’s a lie’ because I always told myself ‘you can’t write anything’.”

A little confidence boost from prolific producer Cobahms Asuquo, after being berated by other producers, was all she needed to push herself to write her own songs.

On her musical aspirations, the singer said;

“I would like to open for Beyonce”.

When asked about what it is like being a female artiste, the singer said;

“I’m very proud of every female artiste in Nigeria because it is not an easy feat to be a female artiste but I’d like for us to continue with love”.

On what inspired her album, ‘This is Me‘, she said:

“It is Niniola basically saying this is me, this is who I am. This is what I can do. I can jump on any track- dance tracks, I can sing ballads and do whatever I want with my voice.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the improvement of Nigeria on the World Bank’s Doing Business latest rankings released Tuesday.

Recall, the World Bank on Tuesday released its latest Doing Business Rankings, and in cheering news for the administration, the country moved up 24 places from 169th last year to 145th out of 190 ranked economies.

Nigeria was also recognized this year as one of the top 10 most improved Doing Business economies in the world.

Now, the president has taken to twitter to react to the progress..

He tweeted;

The news that Nigeria moved 24 places up in the World Bank Doing Business rankings released today is most welcome. I'm very pleased by it.

I congratulate all Nigerians on this landmark achievement, which symbolizes the success of our Ease of Doing Business Reforms.

A 35 year old teacher, identified as Ashok Mishra, has been arrested by the Police in Greater Noida, for allegedly raping an 11-year-old class-six Nigerian pupil.

According to DNA India, the accused has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days. The school principal told Hindustan Times that the accused, Mishra, had been working as an administrative assistant for the school for five years.



Mishra’s job was to ‘screen’ visitors of the principal. He also used to sell school diaries, resource books and uniforms to students. He had access to the entire building, including the teachers’ staff room.



The issue came to public attention last week Monday when the victim complained to his mother that he was being sodomised by a school staff for the last four years. The parents alleged the sexual assault used to take place in the school’s toilet.

Meanwhile, a group of Nigerians protested in front of the school.

They told the authorities that the protest was not a violent one but to seek justice for the boy.

A Nigerian lady identified as Chinwe Oge Udeariry, has taken to social media to blast the Imo state government over their cruelty to her pensioner mother..

According to Chinwe, who took to her Facebook page, the Imo state government gave her mother, who is a retired civil servant, her pension cheque of an undisclosed amount..

To the surprise of the woman, who had served the government for 30 years before retiring, the cheque bounced as it was a dud cheque..

Harrysong's manager has responded to the claims by Nigerian music producer, Chimbalin, that the singer and songwriter, abandoned him and forgot their agreement as he is yet to pay him for producing the song, "Tribute To Mandela."
Recall, music producer, Chimbalin, in a chat with Pulse had accused singer Harrysong of abandoning him and not fulfilling his promise to pay him 10 percent of whatever proceeds he gets from the song "Tribute To Mandela," which is currently a ring tune and caller back tune on MTN network.

Now, Harrysong's team have reacted to the claims as Pulse had sought to get a reaction and placed a call through to his manager, Mr Desmond Chima.
However, the calls were not answered as the phone number of Harrysong's manager rang endlessly without a response.
In furtherance, a message was promptly sent to the number for a response over the claims by Chimbalin and after some hours of wait, Mr Chima replied our message.
He wrote;

"We are tired of people seeking undue attention and popularity by trying to drag Harrysong's name to disrepute.

Chambalin should improve on his craft and stop trying to be heard via unecessary controversy."

Nigeria international Ngozi Ebere has joined Cyprus women club Barcelona FA on a one-year deal from Paris Saint-Germain ladies.

The Super Falcons defender had joined PSG in 2015 after a good outing at the Fifa Women’s World Cup in Canada, but struggled for form and playing time with Patrice Lair’s side.

On Wednesday, Ebere confirmed her move to Cyprus first division women’s side, who finished runners-up in the 2016 Women’s Cup after having a successful medical in Germasogeia.



The 26-year-old has been handed jersey no. 26 for the Cypriot women topflight side.

Ebere told Goal;

“I’m happy joining the team and very eager to prove my worth here,”

The Burkina Faso goalie has reportedly died after a short illness

The Burkina Faso football has been dealt a huge blow following the sad news of the death of Stallions shot stopper Soulama Abdoulaye on Friday afternoon, Burkina24.com reports..

According to reports, the former Asante Kotoko SC and Hearts of Oak goalkeeper who also played for ASFA Yennega of Burkina Faso passed away in Bobo Dioulasso at the age of 37 after a long illness.



The former first-choice goalie for the senior national team of Burkina Faso, The Stallions, had been hospitalized at the beginning of the year at the Banfora Regional Hospital.

Following his return from Ghana where he spent a large part of his career, Abdoulaye Soulama was out of football and stayed in his hometown in Banfora before losing his life in Bobo-Dioulasso where he was receiving medical care.



He will be buried in his hometown, Banfora today per Islamic conventions.

"Harrysong Promised Me That When He Blows He Will Pay Me"- Producer Chimbalin Blasts Singer For Lying And Abandoning Him



A music producer, identified as Chimbalin has accused Alter Plate recording artist, Harrysong of ripping him off his financial rights on one of his songs, "Tribute To Mandela".

According to Chimbalin, in a chat with Pulse NG, though he had no written agreement with Harrysong when he produced the song, he got a verbal agreement from the singer as to what he would get from proceeds of the song.

The producer said following the production of the song, he was promised to get 10 percent of the proceeds should the song make it to MTN's caller back tune and ring tones - which the song eventually did.



Chimbalin then went further to explain how he met Harrysong and all that transpired between them before he decided to call it quit with the singer.

The meet

I met Harrysong in Warri some years ago when one of my friends worked with him on a song. My friend brought him to my studio then, we did a song and afterwards, Harrysong showed interest in me and wanted to work with me.

I produced Ogogoro featuring Timaya and some other songs for Harrysongs after which he urged me to leave Warri saying my talent was bigger than Warri and I thought about it before relocating to Lagos.

Relocating to Lagos

We started working together when I relocated to Lagos. Then, Harrysong was still signed on to Questionmark and we did a couple of songs and we worked together like a team striving to attain greater heights. So when Mandela died, we decided to do something and I produced the track which he sang on for the Tribute to Mandela song.

After the song, I wasn’t paid but we had a verbal agreement that I was going to get 10% of whatever proceeds comes out of endorsement from the song after which MTN took over the song and till now, I’m yet to get my entitlement as the producer of the song.



The Betrayal

I saw Harrysong as a brother and a friend when we did all these songs, hence there was no written agreement or any kind of law binding agreement other than the trust and verbal assurance which I took to be his word and his bond.

We never had any form of payment model, it was always about getting the job out and he sometimes tips me as a form of remuneration because I was working with him as his personal producer so I never expected it to turn out this way.

However, Harrysong keeps reassuring me that once he hits it big, I will be well and officially compensated and these I believed until now.

Five Star Journey

I was actually one of the two in house producers for Five Star Music. I worked myself out for a total of one year before I moved on. I stayed with the music crew that included Kcee, Skibii and Harrysong.

I was producing music alongside Dr Amin, another producer before I decided to move on when all I got were assurances and reassurances and no deal, agreement or contract signing.



Setting The Records Straight

I have kept quiet all these while even though I had tried reaching out to Harrysong a couple of time even before he left Five Star Music and when he started Alter Plate but it was still reassurances until his manager, Mr Desmond started telling people that I have been paid for all the jobs I did for Harrysong.

And I also learnt that Harrysong also told Kcee while he was with Five Star that he had sorted me and paid me in full for all the songs I produced and I found that not only disheartening but shattering to my trust in his words. I’m surprised why his manager, who was not working with him when we were working together, can continue saying I have been paid when Harrysong fully knows that that is not the case.

I am not fighting with Harrysong, neither do I want to ride on his fame for anything but truth must be told in plain words. Truth is I really don’t like it when people say things that aren’t through. If I was paid, I won’t have the nerve to come out and say all these.

Everton striker, Wayne Rooney has started his community service for the drink driving offense he committed last month.

Recall, the former Manchester United star was stopped by police on the 1st of September while driving 29-year-old party girl Laura Simpson, who claimed the striker complimented her 32E breasts during a 10-hour drinking session and also said the pair had 'kissed and cuddled.

He was arrested in the woman's Volkswagen Beetle in Wilmslow, Cheshire, and was kept in a police cell overnight after he failed a breath test which showed he had 104mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath with the legal limit being 35mcg.

After he pleaded guilty on September 18 at Stockport Magistrates Court to drink driving he was handed a 24-month driving ban and given 100 hours’ community service as part of a 12-month community order.

Now, the former England captain, had a chauffeured trip in a £60,000 Audi as he arrived at a community center in Macclesfield this morning, where he painted park benches as part of routine maintenance tasks which began at 9.39am.

An onlooker was quoted by Mail Online saying:

'He got out of an Audi and just looked really miserable and shrugged when a staff member tried to talk to him.

'The guy was shoveling mud into a wheelbarrow and smoking a gay and tried to chat to Wayne, but he walked straight past him without stopping.'

Senator Isa Misau has denied making any allegations against First Lady, Aisha Buhari.

Recall, it was reported earlier today that the Senator representing Bauchi Central in the upper chamber accused IGP Idris of giving the First Lady two SUVs.

He reportedly raised the accusations when he appeared before the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Investigation of Various Allegations Levelled Against the Police.

Controversial Ghanaian legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw, has insisted that incessant loud moaning during sex is a crime which must be punished.

According to the legal practitioner, in a chat with Lexis Bill in an interview on Behind the Fame on Drive Time on Joy FM, moaning infringes on the rights of others and must be stopped.

He said;

“Why is it that you are having sex and I cannot sleep? In a compound house, they are having sex with you and everybody cannot sleep, you are infringing upon their rights to privacy and you are committing a crime and a wrong to them because you are committing what we call sexual nuisance,” 

“Everything that makes noise, everything that makes you uncomfortable is a nuisance.”

“There are some girls when they are having sex and you are passing on the streets, you will hear them moaning and screaming.”

“The worst ones are the men, if you are a man and you are having sex too and you are talking and moaning…can’t you control yourself? You should have self-control,” he said.

“When animals are having sex do you hear them moaning like that?”

Maurice Ampaw recounted an experience in Koforidua in the Eastern region where he could not get sleep because of the excessive noise being made by a couple having sex at a hotel he was lodging at.

“After I had finished with a hard day’s work at 7 o’clock I checked into my room and this guy and this girl came to town to chill…and they came to also rest…

I was lying down before I could realize, [their] bed [was making noise] and then I woke up, I could not sleep and the girl was giving commentary,” he narrated.

The legal practitioner, who was clearly not amused by the experience, said the couple punished him because he was also in the mood and he didn’t have anybody to have sex with.

“If you are enjoying, enjoy but don’t come and infringe on [my rights]…We must put a stop to it,” Maurice Ampaw concluded.

The management company of Nigerian singer, Harrison Tare Okiri, popularly known as Harrysong has reacted to reports circulating online about a purported suit filed by producer, Dr. Amir, against Alterplate Chief Executive, Harrysong.

Recall, former Five Star Music Producer Dr Amir had dragged Kcee and Harrysong to court, claiming Harrysong stole his song 'Samankwe' and was demanding N45m.

Also, Dr Amir also filed a similar suit against Five Star Music artiste Kcee for unauthorized publishing of the song “Afro-shake” produced and written by him.

Now, according to the alter plate management, the suit was a childish stunt and appeals to the public to disregard the publication as a bad joke.

The statement read;

“Earlier, on Monday this week (September 25, 2017), Amir called to intimate us of his plan to stir a controversy using Harrysong’s name, an idea we objected to even before he could spell the details. It was very alarming to read about a suit he purportedly filed against our boss in some section of the media, on September 27, 2017,” says the management in an official statement they issued concerning the matter.

“Of pertinence, is the fact that as at the time of putting this piece together, we have not been served any legal note by any chambers representing him or whatsoever (of course, no notable legal office can subject itself to such disingenuousness).

“However, for Dr. Amir to think he could ride on Harrysong’s popularity and image to make himself relevant is not only jesting to his career, but totally unacceptable to us and very nauseating too. As a reputable company, we have a unique way of spreading our contents using the media, stunting is definitely not part of it.

“Asides suggesting that the young man subjects himself to a proper brain evaluation, we at Alterplate feel he has also crossed a dangerous line and betrayed our friendship with him and as such, he will hear from our lawyers in no time.

For avoidance of doubt, we have here, proof of a text message he sent to Harrysong yesterday, trying to pacify him,” the statement added.

Popular US rapper, Cornell Iral Haynes Jr popularly known as Nelly, has reportedly been arrested for raping a woman..

According to TMZ, the 42 year old allegedly ra-ped the woman while on the rapper’s tour bus in Washington.

Nelly is currently on tour with Florida Georgia Line and they are due to perform a concert on Saturday night in Ridgefield, Washington.

The alleged rape occurred Saturday morning at around 3.45am.

Nelly was reportedly arrested on on second degree rape charges on Saturday morning at around 7am.

The US gossip website claims that he is still in police custody.

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service have finally arrested a female who is noted for defrauding unsuspecting victims under the pretense of being a car dealer in Accra.

The notorious suspect identified as Bridget Enchill Obeng is known to have duped over 10 suspects who have in turn reported her dealings to the police. It is believed that she has conned her suspects into paying her sums ranging from GH¢9,000 to GH¢50,000.

According to reports, Bridget operates with the alias Naana and was picked up at Awoshie, a suburb of Accra after the police received a tip-off.

She had been on the wanted list of the Osu, Tesano, Adabraka, Teshie and Airport police stations for nine months.


According to CID’s Director of Operations, ACP Peter Gyimah, in an interview with Daily Guide, Naana paraded herself as a car dealer and conned people who wanted to buy cars.

ACP Peter Gyimah indicated that Naana had a number of cars going around town with ‘For Sale’ inscriptions on them.

When potential buyers called her, she in turn took them to see the ‘owners’ of the cars who are her accomplices.

Naana then collected some agreed sums of money from the buyers and handed them fake car keys and documents.

The victims would then be asked to pick up the said car at a vantage point only to arrive there to meet an empty parking lot.

Many of the suspects who reported the fraulent activities of Naana to the police indicated that she always met with them in some of the popular hospitals in Accra including 37 Military hospital, Ridge Hospital and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to take their money.

According to Yen.com.gh,the police earlier arrested a lady believed to be Naana only to be told that it was a case of mistaken identity. She was arrested by the Osu Police in collaboration with the CID.

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu has arrived at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the nation’s capital to meet with the President, Muhammadu Buhari.

According to Channels TV, the Minister arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 11:33 am.

The meeting follows few days after Dr. Kachikwu was said to have written to President Muhammadu Buhari, accusing the NNPC boss of practices that could jeopardise the Federal Government’s policies aimed at repositioning the petroleum industry.

In case you missed it, in the letter, dated August 30, which was said to have been leaked to the public, Dr. Kachikwu complained to the President over what he considers as insubordination by the NNPC boss.

An alleged copy of the letter which is making the rounds on the Internet indicates that the minister is also unhappy with the manner recent changes in the NNPC were handled and accused Dr. Baru of humiliating the board.

Dated a day after the NNPC announced a massive shakeup which affected 55 management staff, the Minister said it wasn’t the first time changes would be made without the Board’s input.

“It is in the spirit of service and absolute belief in your leadership and integrity that I have, after one year of tolerating these disrespectful and humiliating conducts by the GMD, decided to bring these to your attention,” the Minister wrote.

He called on the President to intervene and “save the office of the Minister of State from further humiliation and disrespect by compelling all parastatals to submit to oversight regulatory mandate and proper supervision” which he is supposed to manage on the President’s behalf.

Catalan sports minister insists Barca, Espanyol and Girona will have to decide where they want to play after La Liga chief maintains they cannot be part of Spain's top flight if the region goes it alone.
Barcelona could end up plying their trade in the English Premier League if Catalonia wins independence, according to the region's sports minister.

The claim was made after La Liga president Javier Tebas insisted that Catalan clubs would not be allowed to play in Spain's top flight should the region vote to go it alone.

Sunday's referendum has been declared illegal by the Spanish government and ballot boxes have been seized with prime minister Mariano insisting the referendum “won't happen”.

There is strong support for independence among Catalonia's 7.5m population – including from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola - but parties loyal to Spain are boycotting the vote.

Among the many uncertainties is what will happen to the region's football clubs, including Barca, if Catalonia becomes a new country.
Gerard Figueras, Catalonia's minister of sport, said;

“In the case of independence, Catalan teams in La Liga – Barcelona, Espanyol and Girona – will have to decide where they want to play: in the Spanish league or a neighbouring country: Italy, France or the Premier League.

“Now in Spain there teams from other countries who play in national leagues: clubs from Andorra in football and basketball. Monaco plays in France, in England Welsh clubs. I don't think that UEFA has anything against seeing another club play in a different league from their country.”

Spain have insisted Barcelona will not be allowed to play in La Liga if the illegal vote goes through.

La Liga president Javier Tebas said;

“In sport, it isn't a la carte and things must be clearly stated. It isn't easy to have an agreement and study Spanish legislation but if they (Catalan clubs) do get that, then they will not be able to play in Spain's La Liga, but I hope it doesn't come to that."

Clearing peddled rumours of his death after numerous airstrikes, ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi releases new recording urging attacks to prove he still isn’t dead.

The 46-minute tape was released via the Al-Furqan news organisation and does not give a date of recording, but his reference to the recent missile tests and war of words between North Korea and the US suggests the recording is recent.

He says;

“North Korea is now threatening America and Japan with nuclear power” and “America, Europe and Russia are living in a state of terror… fearing the strikes of the mujahideen”.

Al-Baghdadi’s last speech before Russia’s claim earlier this year that they may have killed Al-Baghdadi in an air strike, was issued in November 2016 where he called to make the “unbelievers” “blood flow as rivers”.

In this new recording, Al-Baghdadi who had a £20 million bounty on his head because of his hate-filled sermons that inspired suicide attacks across Europe, called on ISIS followers to continue, and claimed Syria’s government forces, allies and other forces fighting IS would not “last an hour” without air cover provided by the US and Russians.

He vowed to continue fighting and praised his followers despite the loss of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

The latest recording is titled “Sufficient Is Your Lord As A Guide And A Helper”.
