The man is 100% correct, I said it in another thread that a WHOLE tribe that is mostly monogamous in a 60-70% polygamous populated country will sooner or later be marginilized. In a country where ethnicity still plays the biggest role in politics one will HAVE to start populating more.
You have been playing ethnic politics for 49 years and look at where it left you. Are you happy with the situation of Nigeria now?. If ethnic politics is going to solve the problem, it would have done it way before you were born. If Nigeria has a welfare structure, then igbos will soon be turned into slaves who work and pay taxes to raise children from other ethnic group. Since there is no welfare structure, they have nothing to lose besides, will you want to be on welfare or be the one paying the taxes?.

The sign of higher education and better quality of living, come with the expense of a 0% birth rate for a paricular region, country or ethnicity. White people in America arent populating anymore its the immigrants, to the point many whites feel, they might become the minority in the future. How ironic lol
Because the white people know the value of quality over quantity. It's better to have one educated child than 10 children who are touts and armed robbers.

Its not as if we have a social structure in Nigeria that will help these kids. How can a man earning N100k a month have 10 children from 3 women who collectively earn less than N50k/month?. How will he raise them appropriately and pay their school fees to university level?. Sometimes, we use our prick to program poverty into our generation to the third degree. A family like that will need a miracle to escape poverty in the near future and most of them will not achieve their full potentials because of lack of resources. Their parents themselves will also live a life of penury and pain.

Igbos have the highest rate of middle class in their population no doubt, but population wise it could mean they are no longer populating as much as other ethnicities. Reasons could be the males aren't prone to marrying outside tribe, or the males aren't polygamus as they used to be etc . . . .
. .
Inter-tribal marriage has nothing to do with it. It has more to do with standard of living. Igbos don't like their children walking around aimlessly in the neighborhood and if you go to igboland, it affects the integrity of their father if his children are unkempt.
PoliticsRe: Imagine This:senator Laments Low Birth Rate Among Ndigbo by AloyEmeka3: 10:05pm On Oct 07, 2009
While people are busy looking for ways to overcome poverty, Nigerians are canvassing for ethnic population in order to gain lion shares through quota system. Polygamy is the biggest contributor of poverty and it's a pity that those who still canvass for it do not care about the economic impact on their lives. Of course, many igbos in this generation do not produce more than 3 children and most of them will tell you that they want the number they can afford to feed and send to school comfortably without denying themselves the necessary things in life.

Here is a senator[supposedly educated] canvassing for more population even though he is from the most impoverished part of igboland. It's easy to impregnate a woman but the real test of a man is to take care of the fruits of that pregnancy until adulthood. Breeding alayes and almajiris are not the best ways to increase wealth in 21st century. When farming was the only way to sustain families, polygamy made some sense and help increase wealth in homes but this is the 21st century. Wake up black people.

She is a modern Nigerian icon. Along with Oluchi, Agbani Darego helped revolutionize the modelling industry and revive beauty pageantry in Nigeria. Ever since Agbani was crowned as Miss World 2001, she was placed on a pedestal and is considered as a role model for many young Nigerian ladies aiming to be beauty queens. Soon after her win, she was spotted in international publications including US Vogue and Essence. She also featured in international campaigns for cosmetic giant L’oreal. For the past few years, many have been asking ‘where is Agbani?’. The only recent spotting was at the ARISE show at New York Fashion week earlier this year. Great news for Agbani fans – she is doing well and still looks absolutely gorgeous! Agbani is based in New York, signed to Ford Model Management and attends New York University. Though she is no longer a full-time model, she hit the catwalks at the recent Spring/Summer 2010 New York Fashion Week shows and has reportedly been signed as the new face of international sportswear brand Lotto Sport Italia in Africa. For the next few years, she will appear in brand ads and act as a brand ambassador. See some recent photos of Agbani below:

CrimeSenator Quizzed Over Murder Of Hunchback by AloyEmeka3(op): 8:41pm On Oct 07, 2009
Senator quizzed over murder of hunchback - Recovered hunch deposited at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital
Tunde Oyekola, Osogbo
Wednesday, October 7, 2009
THE Police in Osogbo, Osun State, have quizzed a former member of the National Assembly, Senator Felix Kolawole Ogunwale, over the alleged murder of a 27-year-old hunchback, Taibat Oseni, allegedly done in Iragbiji, headquarters of Boripe Local Government Area of the state, on Tuesday, last week.

http://odili.net/news/source/2009/oct/7/614.html

Senator Ogunwale, who was said to have been reporting at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Police headquarters in Osogbo since Monday, was said to be the owner of an abandoned building at Iragbiji, where Taibat was said to have been dragged by her assailants at about 10.30 p.m., on Tuesday night, before she was murdered.

The police said that they had arrested three suspects in connection with the incident while the hunch had been recovered from them. Those arrested, according to the police, were Asimiyu Kolapo, Mukaila Kolawole and Isaac Ayandokun, while another suspect identified as Mosudi Abisoye, also known as Compol, an OPC member at Iragbiji, was still at large.

The police said that they were yet to recover the corpse of Taibat but the hunch recovered from the suspects and a piece of flesh, suspected to be human flesh, had been deposited at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital for preservation and examination.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Clement Akinola, who confirmed that Senator Ogunwale had been invited in connection with the murder of the hunchback, stated that he (Ogunwale) was not directly connected with the murder.

He stated that the police invited Senator Ogunwale for questioning because the house, where the suspects allegedly murdered Taibat, belonged to him.

He said, “though the suspects have not linked Senator Ogunwale to the mysterious killing of Taibat Oseni, the 27-year-old hunchback, the suspects said that the crime was perpetrated in an abandoned house allegedly owned by Senator Ogunwale.”

He added that, “as at now, there is no evidence incriminating Senator Ogunwale about the murder.” However, Senator Ogunwale, who was seen at the police headquarters on Tuesday, told newsmen that he voluntarily reported himself to the police to clear his name, when he learnt that the murder was perpetrated in his abandoned house.

Senator Ogunwale was elected in 2003 on the ticket of the PDP and contested the governorship primaries of the party with the incumbent governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, in the 2007 gubernatorial election. Senator Ogunwale, in May 2009, defected to the rival Action Congress (AC).
CultureOgun Threatens To Arrest 'illegal' Chiefs by AloyEmeka3(op): 8:37pm On Oct 07, 2009
Ogun threatens to arrest 'illegal' monarchs
From Charles Coffie Gyamfi, Abeokuta

THE Ogun State government yesterday warned all those installed in a controversial manner by the Owu monarch, Oba Adegboyega Dosumu, as Obas (kings) to henceforth desist from parading themselves as such, else the "law would be enforced on them."

http://odili.net/news/source/2009/oct/7/9.html

According to Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Aare Tunde Alabi, who spoke on behalf of the government through a statement in Abeokuta yesterday, all security agencies have been alerted about the state government's decision and are expected to apprehend such "impostors."

The installation of the 16 controversial Obas about three years ago ignited a controversy which has lingered on till now. The government and some other monarchs in the state insisted that Oba Dosumu acted outside the state Chieftaincy Law.

By the government's decision yesterday, it became clear that it has resolved to put a permanent end to the dispute.

The government has argued that the only prescribed authority the Olowu has is in respect of minor chiefs, whose chieftaincy titles are associated with Egba Owu section in Abeokuta North Local Council alone.

The coronet Obas that Oba Dosumu installed cut across Ifo Ado-Odo/Ota and other council areas in the state.

A newspaper had last week quoted one of Oba Dosumu's chiefs, Ekundayo Opaleye, a retired General, as saying that the Owu Kingdom will not reverse the installation of the controversial Obas since it has not flouted any known law.

But the commissioner's statement yesterday described Opaleye's statement as reckless, malicious "and deliberately made to cause disaffection, and create disharmony among the affected communities in Ogun State."

According to the statement, "One would have expected great restraint from a person of high repute such as Chief Opaleye, a former military governor, in making statements that are inciting.

"Ogun State has witnessed much bloodshed in recent past arising from the illegal acts of Oba Dosumu. "Enough is enough.

"All individuals imposed on various communities outside the Owu section of Abeokuta North Local Council are nothing but collaborators in the illegality perpetrated by the Olowu of Owu, Abeokuta and are therefore warned in their own interest to desist from parading themselves as Obas, failing which the law will take its course on them".

Continuing, the government added: "All security outfits in the state are, therefore, by this release, put on notice on the matter so as to legally apprehend such impostors.

"This becomes very important challenge to the security agencies as this ministry regularly receive reports from various communities on the breakdown of law and order occasioned by their act of illegality," the statement concluded.

Keyamo is a liar –Wife • No, I’m a responsible father, he counters
By OLA AGBAJE and FAITH HASSAN

Wednesday, October 7, 2009
Lagos High Court, Ikeja, was stunned on Tuesday as wife of Lagos lawyer, Festus Keyamo, branded him a liar. Irene Angela Keyamo made the allegation while testifying in an application seeking for access to the two children of the wedlock brought by Keyamo.

http://odili.net/news/source/2009/oct/7/506.html

Looking rather calm and unfazed, Mrs. Keyamo told the court that the human rights activist had not been acting as a responsible father to his children.

However, Keyamo countered that contrary to the petition of his wife, he had been responsible for the welfare of his children while claiming that he had spent fortunes on them but that the money was not properly utilized.

Giving her testimony, Mrs. Keyamo explained to the court how both she and the children had suffered neglect in the hands of her husband.

“It is quite unfortunate because everything he has said here are all lies. I have been begging him to be responsible. Festus has never sent any money.

“In a text message he sent to me, he threatened me that when the children are of age, they will know their father. It was last April that I called him on a Father’s Day. He now said he wants to see the children. He sent N50, 000 to me and said he wanted to see the children.

“We agreed that he will see them at Mr Biggs. It was even raining that day. Another time he called me, he said I should bring the children to the normal meeting place and I did,” Irene said.

While giving further testimony, the respondent told the court that she had never denied the petitioner access to the children but she said that whatever they want to do concerning the children’s schools she wanted to be carried along.

“I am ready to go with him for the registration even if it is for one week. Ask him how many children he has. Has he taken care of them? I cannot allow another woman or houseboy to take care of my children. He has to come personally to come and pick the children not the houseboy or driver.

“I have never denied him responsibility. All I’m saying is that we should do things together. He should take responsibility for their clothing, education and welfare,” she said.

However, Keyamo insisted that he had always been a responsible father. In his words:

“I have spent millions on the children. I cannot be spending millions and not see them at least from Saturday to Sunday. I only want them in a better school. The schools are listed in my application.

“In my affidavit, I put the amount and the time I sent money to them for the upper term fees. But they didn’t deny it in their affidavit. They slashed the money and put the kids in slum schools at Ketu. I intend to put them in Harley-field School.

“I paid for their medical expenses and bought them clothes the last time I went to California. But they returned the clothes under the excuse that the children had too many clothes,” he said.

In her response, Mrs. Keyamo said that her husband used to send clothes through his doctor who gives her one skirt or one suit on each visit which is not what the children need.

In her ruling, the trial judge, Justice Elfreda Williams-Dawodu, held that both parents have rights to the children until proven otherwise and directed that both Keyamo and his wife should attend to the children’s registration at Harley-field school together between today and tomorrow till it is concluded.

She also ruled that the children remain in the custody of their mother pending the determination of the petition.

Justice Williams-Dawodu directed that the petitioner be allowed to have access to his children every fortnight beginning from this Saturday at 12pm with the children to be returned the following day, Sunday. This, according to her, will continue until the petition is determined.

Further hearing on the petition will commence in November 11, 2009.

Keyamo had dragged his wife before the court in an application alleging denial of access to his children by the wife. He, among other reliefs, prayed the court to grant an order allowing him to transfer the children to a “better-rated” school and that they be allowed to stay with him for two days pending the completion of their registration before they are returned to their mother.

At last, Lagos City Hall wears new look
By Kingsley Adegboye
Wednesday, October 7, 2009

Lagos City Hall, the foremost seat of local government council administration in Nigeria which got burnt some years ago is now wearing a new look. The total reconstruction of the Lagos Island Local Government Secretariat and finishing with the state of the art building materials have transformed the edifice into an ultra-modern structure. With this development the four-storey complex has been restored to its former pride of place as one of the historic buildings in Nigeria.

https://odili.net/news/source/2009/oct/7/vanguard/images/citihall480.jpg

http://odili.net/news/source/2009/oct/7/300.html

The facelift given the badly burnt building came courtesy of the Lagos State government as an expression of its strong commitment towards the provision of modern day infrastructural facilities that will improve the economic well-being of its citizenry as well as meet the challenges of Lagos as a mega city.

The new look City Hall now has granite marble floors in all its public areas, vitrified floor tiles for offices and corridor, high quality sanitary fittings and replacement of internal and external curtain walls. It also has service facilities like central air conditioning, CCTV, four lifts, four standby generators, central sewage treatment plant, two bore holes and water treatment facilities provided within a well secured site. It was one of the projects inspected during a recent inspection tour by Engineer Ganiyu Johnson who is the Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure to Governor Babatunde Fashola.

Other projects inspected in Lagos Island Local Government Council Area during the tour included construction of Elegbeta Recreation Ground, Construction of E-Learning Centre CBD, Construction of combined Magistrate and High Courts in Igbosere, construction of Osborne Jetty and rehabilitation of Oba’s palace.

At the Elegbeta Recreation Ground, Engr. Johnson said the construction was conceived towards promoting sporting activities among the youths and to further boost this administration’s policy of recreation. The Recreation Ground comprises facilities such as spectators stand, three Astro-turf pitches and flood lighting.

At E- learning Centre CBD in Lagos Island, Engr. Johnson decried a situation where the library was for long abandoned as he recalled with nostalgia that it was a place where many Lagosians studied in comfort. But he assured that the new project was an improvement over the former library which was a two- storey building, saying the new has been upgraded into a three storey building with a dome-like exhibition hall at the upper floor.

The new building now has a facade with the use of trapezoidal fins, while the external walls will be decorated with brown mosaic tiles.

Speaking further Engr. Johnson said the Library is being upgraded to international standard and will be electronic-controlled. The Library has more spaces and height, with different partitioning for the use of children and adult. The project is due for handing over by the end of November, 2009.

The construction of the combined Magistrate and High Court, Igbosere also gave the inpection team much to cheer. The main building consists of 24 court rooms spread on four suspended floor slabs with ancillary facilities, which include withholding cell, canteen, gatehouse, ramp (for the physically-challenged) and a generator-house. According to Engr. Johnson, the project is to complement and enhance quick dispensation of justice in the State.

At the construction of a jetty and terminal building at Osborne, Ikoyi, the Special Adviser disclosed that the project was conceived to develop an effective water transportation system for the State. The contract of the construction of the jetty and terminal building at Osborne Ikoyi, was awarded to Messer Hi-tech Construction Company limited. It has a proto-type design similar to the on-going jetties at Ipakodo and Badore.

The scope of work entails reclamation, dredging, piling, construction of terminal building, jetty deck, sheet piling, earth works/road works, storm water drainage works, construction of box culvert, construction of public convenience, land scaping and beautification.

Engr. Johnson confirmed to journalists that works being carried out at the Badore and Ipakodo Jetty terminals would be replicated at the site. The project would be handed over for the use of Lagosians at the end of 1st quarter of year 2010.

On the heels of her feature on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Genevieve Nnaji granted an exclusive interview to Encomium columnist Stella Dimoko-Korkus. In the interview, she shares her thoughts on the experience…
_________________________________________________________________________
Hello Genny

Stella how now?

How are you?

Good. You?

Fine. You must know why I am calling you?

Surprise me (Laughs)

Did you know you were profiled on Oprah.

Yes .

How did that come about?

It’s a long story my dear

I have enough credit

(Laughs) Well, I was away on holiday and got a call from Iconola that Oprahs people wanted to speak with me. I thought it was a joke but I told her to go ahead and give them my number in the UK. Then my P.A also called to tell me, the blogger, Bella Naija had also called about the same issue and that she had given her my email and number. Then I got interested and started paying attention to my inbox which I hardly do. (Laughs).

Then what happened?

Well the mail came soon after, but before I could respond I got a call from the Supervising producer of the Oprah show and an interview was carried out immediately over the phone. She explained to me first of all that they were doing a show on the most famous talents around the world and in their research I was the famous talent for Africa. I can’t tell you how shocked I was.

So, what were the steps, give us details?

I am not good with details (laughs) but basically, I had about 3 telephone interviews with them. I gave them one or two numbers in Nigeria that they could deal with to send them all the stuff they need for the segment and that was it really.

Was there any chance of you physically going on the show?

I don’t know. They asked me if I had a valid visa and I said yes but straight off the bat they said they were not sure when it was going to air and logistics might be a problem so they would let me know. It was cool with me because I was holidaying different parts of Europe with non-refundable reservations (laughs) so I was hoping they would not want me to come over immediately because the exchange rate of the Euro these days is not for children. Then I had a charity show in Nigeria on my return so, it actually was fine by me either way.

Would you have loved to go on the show and sit on Oprah’s famous couch?

Sure. Why not, who wouldn’t?!(Laughs) But I didn’t and I have no issues with that whatsoever. I feel humbled that the big O and her people sought out little me in my little Nollywood box to do a profile on me on the most popular talk show in America. The fact that I was discussed at all is a great honour as far as I am concerned and can only be a good thing for me and I represent Nollywood. So, it’s good all around. Maybe one day. You never know.

What did you think about Oprah’s comment that the average Nigerian earns 400 dollars a year?

Well, unfortunately she was wrong. That works out at about 60k a year. The average Nigerian doesn’t earn that. Who is the average Nigerian? Civil servants. They do not earn 60k a year. Maybe they got their exchange rate wrong. I don’t know but that’s inaccurate I’m afraid.

She also said you earn the 6,500 dollars a movie.

Also a result of maybe the wrong exchange rate (laughs) I humbly submit that the figure is also inaccurate.

So what do you earn?

Stella, you know the regions of how much I earn. You and your paper have speculated on it several times and even when your speculations were not so accurate, it was not 6,500 dollars. The reality is, the average AMERICAN does not earn in a month what Oprah earns or even what I earn or even what most actresses in Nigeria earn every 2 weeks. We shoot movies in 2 weeks so these earnings should be viewed like that.

Did you call them to make these corrections?

I haven’t watched the show to be fair but I did see a little clip on Youtube where they showed some market women selling, not the beautiful part of Lagos. Western media never do really. This has been going on for years. Besides, those women are part of what makes Nigeria Nigeria. It’s part of our culture. So, if the western world prefers that as the picture of Nigeria, that is a problem for the ministry of foreign affairs. I think Nollywood has done a lot to show that there are other parts of Nigeria that are beautiful and I am interested in Nollywood because no one in Government is interested in us even though they should be as we are clearly the most popular export out of this country right now and should be funded adequately enough so as to represent the Country better but enough of that. I am tired of saying the same thing year in year out.

Do you think this will open doors in Hollywood for you?

(Laughs) I don’t know. I did not look at it as an avenue to break into Hollywood. I didn’t go looking for it , so it wasn’t premeditated. My view on Hollywood remains the same. I am an actress. I can work anywhere. I am passionate about a good story, particularly character driven stories. If your story is good and the character appeals, I will play the role. Although it would be nice to work with acclaimed Hollywood directors and actors, I have always maintained that when they are ready for a young African woman to take part in a project that they will come looking for us.

Finally, what is your overriding feeling on this?

Humility, Joy, Different feelings. Pride. I am just grateful to Oprah and her crew. I am honoured and humbled. It’s a great privilege and I am sure I will replay a million times over, Oprah saying Genevieve Nnaji . I am also proud of myself because I believe I have sacrificed a lot and worked hard and so, to be identified alongside all those other leading lights in their respective continents on a show as globally recognised as the Oprah Winfrey show I see as a little reward from God and the good will of my loyal fans. To be identified for work that I have done in my own little Nigerian box is truly gratifying to me.

The only issue with your analogy with American celebrities is the economy in UK and US are not the same. They plan their remuneration using their own economic scale. 51m pounds may not be a lot of money for one to make in America or Nigeria[via embezzlement] but it's surely a lot in UK.

You must be an irreligious person, and you found your match in women among the Somalians (remember your girlfriend among them?). Are you better than Moses who said an eye for an eye?
Still better than a blind religious person.

olabowale:
Whats outdated about Islam? Is it the fact that Abuzola said that doers of evil should die that you are complaining about? Tell me this then; if a man is determined to kill you as he broke into your home, with a knife against your jugular, will you not kill him, if you have a gun to stop him? If you will not, I hope that you realise that you do not value your own life, how then will you value the lives of others; lets start from people who are dear to you, rather than arbitrary and remote faces. They say charity begins at home, and the greatest in your home among mankind should be you. No?
We are talking about family members killing women because they refuse to live according to the tenets of Islam. The example you gave above is self defense.

olabowale:

You think it is not the desire of the Christians and Jews to wipe out these places, indeed all the muslims? Please give me a break.
It is the desire of Christians to bring Muslims to Christ and not wipe them out. Wiping out is genocide and is not supported by Christ.

olabowale:

In all the kindness of America, it is only by Allah's grace that we Muslims after 911 did not find ourselves in concentration camps like the interment camps that they had for the Japanese in the 2nd WW or what the Nazis did for the Jews
, the same that Israel and their zionist agenda have created by snaking walls between neighbors in palestine, and america was doing the same in Iraq just the past 2 years!
Imagine a Christian doing the same in Saudi Arabia and what would have happened to Christians living in that nation. Remember this quote below:

Sheik Abu Hamza:
If a kafir person (non-believer) goes in a Muslim country, he is like a cow. Anybody can take him. That is the Islamic law."
"If a kafir is walking by and you catch him, he's booty. You can sell him in the market. Most of them are spies. And even if they don't do anything, if Muslims cannot take them and sell them in the market, you just kill them. It's OK."[23]

"Killing of the Kafir for any reason you can say it is OK, even if there is no reason for it."

"It is not called suicide,  this is called martyring, because if the only way to hurt the enemies of Islam except by taking your life for that then it is allowed" [24]       https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-333713.0.html

Please come out of this self delution of Christianity and Jewish combo against islam! If Islam in its "stone age" mentality have not stood firm against One World Order agenda of Papa Bush and the cronies after him, by now we will be expect microchips imbedded in the bodies of new borns, and before long, the whole of Nigeria is just a "town" at best a region under this evil regime that is going to even sell water to the people whose bloodline have been natives of the land where the water flows! So that you know;
Nigeria was worse than that under Abacha and IBB and they are/were not kufars.

olabowale:
a military general, a congress man and many church Televangelists in America wanted to attack Makka. We said let them go, since their god or gods is or are bigger and more ppowerful and of greater resources than Allah. I was very confident that the Lord of Kaaba will defeat them as He did of the army of Abraha and his elephant; the tank of its time when sword was the biggest weapon of choice!
Same thing Sadaam Hussein said about Americans invading Iraq. Where was his lord of Kabba?

olabowale:
What did he say, in the above that he deserved such a summary ugly painting of his person from you? The fact that people should be killed for proven adultery and not fornication which the Jewish law that Jesus vowed to ever keep relevant demand? Do you think Islam should change to accept your type? No. Islam was complete and relevant at all time. Proof; No one woman or man whose spouse is caught in illict sexual act will not wish death or some great evil on this person right there and then! Please dont be a bleeding heart liberal. It is what cost Michael Dukakis the American Presidency against VP Bush in the days, when he said he will not retaliate agaisnt a person who killed his wife, or do his family some great harm! And the whole of palestine and these places mentioned, are not all practicing Muslims or muslims for that matter. Some of them are worse than outright disbelievers. They are hypocrites, not making salah on time, etc!
Wishing someone evil is totally different from doing it. Not everybody will wish his/her cheating spouse evil in the first place.

olabowale:
Whats there to say when you have said it all? And whats stone aged about following and obeying God and being humble to Him?
Killing people is not obeying God. Unless you mean obeying the lord of Kabbah.

What if I can't afford $25?

Over 80 percent of Nigerians live on less than $1 a day, are they not entitled to the free word of god, Can they not also wish to live abundantly in this recession?

Why are the books not free for the majority who are poor?
Why didn't his wife use this "powerful" book to prevent/cure her stroke?  huhInstead she ran to an american hospital and stayed there for months. . . . . Or did she not have $25? huh
There are free tracts everywhere if you care to read them. Stop looking for free things, you are not that poor. Awoof de run belle.

Onowu - Iyasele

Now i'm beginin' to make out facts from what i read sometime ago about the Benin kingdom and that of Onitsha, that the latter originated from the former. The name 'Iyasele' is a bini name isn't it?

Both the Ofala and the Igue festivals i'm told also have strikin' similarities.

I also learnt too that the Obi of Onitsha goes by the title 'agbogidi'
Iyasele and igbo iyasele does not have the same pronounciation. Of course, there are similarities in our languages and possible links no matter how the current obi of Onitsha tries to deny it. Check out yoruba names for chicken and stone and compare with igbo names. Agbogidi is used across Anambra. Other synonyms for agbogidi are ogidigada and Oyi.

Fowl:
Yoruba = akuko
igbo= okuko

stone:
Yoruba=akute
igbo= okwute

Mouth
Yoruba= enu
igbo =onu etc.

Elephant

igbo= enyi

Epiphany:
But on the other hand, the African society of today does not 'explicitely' promote this infidelity like it used to in the past. It is highly unbecoming for a public official to be known as a 'woman wrapper'. If this is done in private, people may turn a blind eye to this weakness but when it is openly flaunted, it is considered a shameful thing. Being married to more than one woman is allowed of course (due to religious and traditional values), but to be known philanderer is a no-no. Even many educated traditionalists and religious individuals (who are allowed the opportunity of as many as 4 or more wives) chose to have only one

Although Abiola and Obasanjo were presidential aspirants, their fickle relationships to and with women was often a thing of shame. We have all read and heard statements pertaining to . . . 'how can we trust our nation into the hands of men who cannot control their immediate families'?  We have also seen what their infidelity did to the families they have or left behind. Even women who had no relationship with Abiola are trying to claim some inheritance. Obj's son is fighting Obj over Obj's alleged relationship with Obj's son's wife. Imagine such blasphemy. . .all because Africa and Africans allow men to have numerous wives and girlfriends

Another example of this is President Jacob Zuma of SA who has 6 or more wives. His attitude to women is also very shameful. We all know what he suffered at one time or the other too!
Not among Nigerians. It's a thing of shame in Europe and Americas but not in Africa. Nigerians want a damn food, electricity, jobs etc and will careless if you are married to 500 mami waters.

@alloy,
Since when has marital infidelity become exclusive African character? And since when has being African become a justification for cordoning marital infidelity?

Look at the people you mentioned, MKO never deny he is a womanizer. And everybody know. Same with Obj and others.
They don't need to deny it. Their record is there for all and sundry. I can't remember Obasanjo accepting anywhere that he is very randy. As a matter of fact, it has never been an issue in Nigerian polity. You can have 500 wives for all we care as long as you delegate your responsibilities excellently. I do not support polygamy, all I am saying is that cheating by a man does not make waves in Africa like it does in the west.

My own point with Festus is that as "Jehovah  witness" he has more question marks over his head than those who are self-confessed womanizers. If you know what Jehovah witness creeds are you will understand why I said he is living a double life. So far, I have not seen him admits he has weakness with women.

All I know is that many people fails when they fail in their homes there is always a prize for every womanizers regardless of their status. . . .
Is he a practicing Jehovah's wickedness?. Obasanjo too is an anglican and last time I checked, they do not allow polygamy . Why didn't you judge him with his own faith?. Abiola married plenty women as a christian later became a muslim because of money and married more with concubines. If we judge him from the Islamic point of view, he was supposed to have only four wives yet he had almost 100. Why not judge him with his religious faith?.
