Kanu, Toure, others recruited for England 2018 W/Cup bid

NIGERIAN international and Portsmouth striker, Nwankwo Kanu and Manchester City new recruits, Kolo Toure and Roque Santa Cruz are among the names enlisted to help boost England’s bid for the 2018 World Cup, FA chairman Lord Triesman has revealed.

The trio join Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou, Sunderland’s Kenwyne Jones, former Argentina and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ossie Ardiles, West Ham United manager Gianfranco Zola and ex-Leeds United defender, Lucas Radebe as foreign ambassadors for the bid, according to Sky Sports.

The news follows Wednesday’s criticism by FIFA vice-president, Jack Warner, who slammed England’s bid as “lightweight”. Warner also found fault at Wednesday’s ‘Leaders in Football’ summit at Stamford Bridge, where he was bewildered by the bags handed to delegates.

“I came here and was shocked that I got a bag for Australia at the entrance,” he said, according to The Sporting Life. “I wouldn’t have allowed it. Why isn’t there a bag for England? People are looking at these things and asking themselves questions.

“My colleagues are saying very quietly that the guys who are coming to them are lightweight. This is the type of thing that loses you a bid. “You have to look at what others are doing and also be creative yourself – these things are not happening.”

KANO State police command has nabbed a 25-year-old man, Kabiru Abubakar, for allegedly raping his sister, while the command has also arrested 20 notorious car thieves with 22 different cars recovered from them.

The command also stated that it lost one Sergeant Lawal Tambai, who was killed by persons suspected to be members of local miscreants group called Yandabas.

Disclosing this, on Thursday, in Kano, while addressing a press conference, the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Chafe Mamman, hinted that a total of 29 Yandabas were arrested with dangerous weapons.

Mamman further disclosed that, on October 3, one Sebastine Nwokoro was kidnapped.

The CP said that Abubakar was caught by his mother while having sex with his sister, saying that their mother reported the case to the police.

While speaking with the press, Abubakar said he sought the consent of her sister to have sex with her and that she agreed.

May I say that if my post is read carefully, I did not say this is the perfect situation, the governor should create better jobs for graduates. However my policy in life is to see the cup as half full instead of half empty. If there are no jobs befitting of a graduate and there is something legal available, why not seize the opportunity. I knew a few of my Uni mates in Nigeria, who were moonlighting as security gaurds in VI at the time, I know someone very close to me actually, who was doing kabu kabu when he was in Uni, he now works in a bank in a good poistion.

Let me give you an example of someone I know in the UK, he worked at McDonalds as a security guard when he arrived in the UK in the 80's, to cut a long story short, he somehow started to supply security gaurds to McDonalds and now he is turning over millions(in £'s) every year, he is no longer a security gaurd and lives such a good life.

Life is what we make of it. We can decide to complain and refuse to do anything about our situation, hoping for something better to come along or we can make do with what is available and opt out when the desirable becomes available.

May I remind you that Fashola also bought cabs?. Why didn't he call it "graduate employment scheme"?. Don't we have unemployed graduates in Lagos state?.

How did he go there with gra gra attitude when he was rejected by their chamber of commerce?. He went there and was informed that they couldn't approve him for some reason. This guy has traveled the world while working for Schlumberger. He worked as an expat for years in Alaska, Louisiana, Cameroun, Singapore, Scotland etc. I think the Angolan chamber of commerce[whatever they call it] has a different system that is peculiar for investors. He may not have the required amount to qualify as an investor.

First and foremost,Gambari, with such exposure, will not relegate himself to the level of speaking for a tribe. Here is a man that has represented the whole world in installing peace in countries like Angola,Myammar etc.
Like any other Ilorin man(Saraki,Idiagbon and co) however,their tribal affiliation is usually complex and fraught with politics. Gambari is an Ilorin prince and he was one of the favourites for the emirship position with the current emir. I can't say categorically which tribe Ibrahim lays claim to whether Yoruba or Fulani, forget about the names Agboola and Gambari, Olusola Saraki also says he's Fulani.

I think Ibrahim Gambari has gone past all those tribal politics but I don't know whether he's Yoruba or Fulani.

If the bolded comment is the truth, then he shouldn't have a problem identifying with his tribe no matter the political consequences. That being said, I think Gambari will best serve Nigeria at the international scene. Something like an envoy to the UN or US or permanent member to the Un security council for Nigeria. On the other hand, he can be Nigeria's secretary of state in African affairs. all these Ecowas wahala needs someone with an in depth  diplomatic experience because Nigeria seems to be lacking in those areas. Our french African neighbours knows how to align with each other and play politics against Nigeria anytime the need arises.
