Rain fed farms is good but not as profitable as irrigated farms. Eg: watermelon planted in september will be harvested in nov/dec. A load sell for 50k to 60k while the one planted in dec to harvest in feb sells fo 100k to 120k. In fact all harvests uptill april / may is good price. Example 2: Ewedu vegetbles sold for N100 to N200 per dozen from sept to early dec. Only for the price to jump to N1,200 and still rising. In same way, cucumber sold for 1,500 per bag and now N4,000. Just plant, irrigate by nov/dec & let your harvest spread from dec to may.

yes the land is still available. To plant in january is ok. Land clearing should start early because is manual.

Is the road from the market to the farm motorable? Can ordinary cars get to the farm.?
Is the irrigation from the river centrally managed or each individual does his pump and piping?
How is fencing and security managed?
Is the outright sales still on?

Cars do get to the farm. Direct sales of acres is on. Not on the portions we are cultivating now. It is on a 50 acre section. No fencing yet until early next year. Irrigation is optional. We pump for you at N25k per month. Piping is good to avoid disturbing the growing crops but a bit costly.

All is set to commence planting of cucumbers.

From my little knowledge abt agriculture & farming, I doubt if this water source can be sufficient to wet/irrigate a 20 acre farmland especially for water dependend vegetable farming.
This water source is a stream/brook that may dry up at the height of the dry season. What this land requires is a river not a stream/brook.

My pple, Pardon me if am wrong.

That part of the water in the picture is small. The bigger part is just by the side and flows round the year. Deep as well. No shaking.

BREAKING NEWS: The land owners have accepted a N350k per acre outright sales. .... C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S... Payment can be made on or before november 2017.

Transplanting of vegetables will be done from thursday to saturday this week and should be ready for harvesting before x-mas.

PLANTING DATES:
For those planting this week.
1. Transplant of soko: Harvest will start by 3rd week of december and run till end of january 2016.
2. Ewedu: harvest will start by 3rd week of december and run till 2nd week of january, 2016.
3. Cucumber: harvest will start mid january and run till mid february 2016.
4. Water/Golden melon: harvest will start by mid february to end of february 2016.

We should be ready to receive the finance house in january 2015 with a target of N1m facility for each acre holder basically for expansion purpose. The visit will be followed with site inspection after filling the relevant documents. The facility is insured while interest rate is 9% per annum.

For all those wanting to do plantain at the farm complex, you need to intercrop with other short term crops like pepper, soko, ewedu, tomato, tete, beans, maize, sesame, okro, potato, watermelon, golden melon, garden eggs or soyabeans to put some cash back into your account pending when your plantain matures.

If you want your vegetables, cucumbers or watermelon to go the market from january 2016, better you plant this month.

Come to ofada where I reside, then we inspect the farm complex & arrange how to go about all your intentions. The project guarrantee earnings every 2 months. Irrigation is the key to producing regularly.

God is good. We have just been granted additional 10 acres. We can take in more participants. It is a two years lease.

Better you pay deposit for the land and pay the balance from your sales and the land is yours.

Weed manually or meet me to pick some materials as alternative.

I am interested in plantain farming can you assist in getting Govt Agric Land in Ogun State.

You can get land from community not far from the govt land for plantain.
It is N5k/acre. How many years do you want to lease the land and how many acres?
