Politics / Rivers: Cole, Abe Emerge Winners As Explosions Rock APC Parallel Primaries by Alphasoar(m): 1:42am On Oct 01, 2018
Chukwudi Akasike and Sampson Itode, Port Harcourt

TWO candidates, Mr Tonye Cole and Senator Magnus Abe, emerged winners of the parallel governorship primaries conducted by both factions of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State.

Cole came out victorious in the indirect governorship primary held in Port Harcourt on Sunday when he polled 3,329 votes while his closest rival, Dr Dawari George, got 491 votes.

Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs came a distant third with 38 votes while Abe got one vote.

Eighteen votes were declared void by the Jafar Isah-led Rivers Governorship Primary Committee.

It was, however, a different story at the primary held by the APC faction loyal to Abe as the senator was declared the winner of the Sunday’s direct governorship primaries conducted in the three senatorial districts of Rivers State by the APC.

The returning officer, Dr Chigbo Sam Eligwe, made the announcement in a press conference at its Secretariat in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

Abe who won with 144,929 votes followed by Dumo Lulu-Briggs who got 3,344, Dawari George getting 1,606 and Tonye Dele Cole 882 votes.

Meanwhile, there was tension in Rivers as the APC in the state held two parallel governorship primaries in different parts of the state.

While the Rotimi Amaechi-led APC conducted an indirect primary on the Igboukwu field in D-Line, Port Harcourt, the Magnus Abe faction adopted the direct governorship primary across different local government areas of the state.

Earlier before the exercise in Port Harcourt by the Amaechi-led APC, there were explosions near the secretariat of the party at about 12.30pm.

The last explosion scared supporters of the Amaechi-led APC as most of them rushed out to have a glimpse of what happened less than 50 metres away from the party secretariat.

However, the exercise went on peacefully as of the time of filing this report.

Before the primaries, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the APC in the state, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, accused the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, of trying to impose his preferred aspirant, Tonye Cole, on the party.

Lulu-Briggs also claimed that certain persons had been handpicked from various wards as delegates to the primary in breach of the party’s constitution and guidelines.

He explained that names were being added and deleted from the delegates’ list.

Lulu-Briggs, however, called for the postponement of the governorship primary in the state, saying this was necessary in order to enhance transparency.

“When the NWC reached the decision that indirect primaries be adopted for the governorship primary in Rivers, as a loyal party man, I accepted the decision in good faith despite the fact that there are pending litigations in various courts, which might vitiate and truncate the process.

“I thus ramped up my campaign, but soon discovered that our party structures from the state executive committee, local government and ward excos across the state have been directed by Rotimi Amaechi, leader of our party in the state, not to allow me access to our party faithful and delegates, but to only support the aspiration of his preferred aspirant, Tonye Cole.

“It is clear from the foregoing that the minimum standards to guarantee a free and fair primary today (Sunday) are nonexistent and any primary held today will be a mere sham and a perfidious travesty.

“To this end, I, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, most graciously appeal to the National Chairman of our great party and the NWC to, as a matter of utmost urgency, postpone the governorship primary for Rivers State so as to correct the anomalies herein complained of because the current arrangement falls short of the minimum standards stipulated by the Electoral Act and our party constitution.”

Reacting, the state APC Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Finebone, dismissed Lulu-Briggs’ claim, saying, “It is not correct.”

However, a source close to Amaechi urged governorship aspirants to leave the minister alone and face the primaries.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, maintained that the leadership of the party would meet with all stakeholders after the governorship primary in the state.

In another development, a faction of the APC in Rivers State, led by a governorship aspirant and lawmaker representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe, conducted its governorship primaries across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The polling officer in Omuanwa, Ward 7, Ikwerre LGA, Eleonu Ndidi, said voting was peaceful.

He said “We started accreditation started by 7.30am, voting started 8.00am and the entire process ended by 12.30pm. The entire election was peaceful and the turnout was impressive. We are packaging all votes, which will be taken to the local government collation centre.”

Also, voting was peaceful in Ward 3, Elele, Ikwerre LGA, where Chidi Wihioka, a lawmaker representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency exercised his franchise.

Wihioka maintained that delegates were currently non-existent in Rivers State as the State High Court had annulled the earlier state congresses held by a faction of the party.

He insisted that National Executive Council of the party had approved direct primary for the APC in Rivers.

But vote counting was ongoing in Port Harcourt at about 7 pm, even as two of the governorship aspirants, Abe and Lulu-Briggs, were absent from the place, where an indirect pattern of voting was adopted.

The leader of the party in the state, Amaechi; Director-General of NIMASA, Dakuku Peterside; and a former acting MD of NDDC, Ibim Semenitari, were at the voting centre in Port Harcourt.

Business / Social Media And Space Economics by Alphasoar(m): 6:55am On Sep 21, 2018
Hy everyone, today I want to take a look at Social Media space management practice. It is something everyone might have notice but didn't bother to give much attention to. Popular interaction platforms such as Facebook and Twitter have wittingly inculcated the "Brief" culture among it's users.

It all started with Twitter allowing anyone that wishes to tweet out an information use only 120 characters; this include spaces too. This has made Twitter stand out as one of the Social media channel you can easily navigate and get a concise, brief and straight to the point information.

It's builders understood that no one who is willing to get an information will be happy reading an epistle of 50 pages when such information could be made simple and put out with just 120 characters.

The space economics of Twitter worked! It's users appreciated it. They were free from struggling to read plenty stories along many bullcraps tales, hehehe.

For Facebook users, they seem to be happy reading epistles that could be summarised in two sentences, but alas, they weren't. From my interactions and usage of the medium, I still found out that most people still prefer something quick and straight to the point.

Mark Zuckerberg and his team understood the Space Economics, maybe late, but hey, they bought the idea. You are probably trying to argue that Facebook write ups aren't moderated to certain number of words or characters. Yea, Sure! The Facebook team knew that you won't want another Twitter and maybe they don't actually know how to tell you to moderate your write ups and make them brief. They adopted other sweet method to do that!

They brought Twitter and Facebook together! How. Keep calm, let me philosophise a bit.

They want to keep their Facebook addicts and also lure Twitter faithfuls, they moderated your posts and put a beautiful background for you. Have you ever wondered why, Facebook brought background colours and designs to add to your posts. Maybe you haven't. I did the thinking for you!

Have you also wondered why your background colour and designs disappear when you write above 120 - 130 characters before posting. They lure you to make your posts brief and straightforward as possible. Who doesn't love the Facebook background designs? They are beautiful and luring and because of that you won't want it to disappear from your post, so you instead shorten your post.

The era of "See More" on Facebook post are gradually fading except for long essay narratives that one would regrettably have to lose the background design or colour.

For me, I think the idea is OK but it won't make us leave our beautiful BIRD chambers grin grin grin.

What do you guys think? Anyone agreeing with me??

Sports / Troost-ekong Joins Udinese On Four Years Deal by Alphasoar(m): 10:18am On Aug 19, 2018
Nigeria's World Cup defender William Troost-Ekong has described his move to Italian club Udinese as the completion of "a great summer."

The 24-year-old signed a four-year deal with the Italians on Friday from Turkish side Bursaspor, where he scored three goals in 32 games and has been included in a 22-man squad for Sunday's season opener at Parma.

Dutch-born Ekong played all three matches for Nigeria in Russia and scored in his final game for Bursaspor last weekend.

"It's been a long journey and this move to Udinese completes a great summer for my career," Troost-Ekong told BBC Sport.

"I played in my first World Cup, became a father for the first time and now have the chance to begin a new chapter in Italian football.

"I have had amazing support around me to get here, including at the national team and club level. I thank God and everyone for the support," he added.

Troost-Ekong started his career with the Tottenham Hotspur youth side in England before returning to the Netherlands to join Groningen in 2013 and played on loan at Dordrecht, before a switch to Belgian club Gent in 2015.

He had a successful season-long loan stint at Norway's FK Haugesund in the 2015/16 season, followed by eight appearances for Gent before his quest for regular first-team football led to a move to Turkey last summer.

The centre-back was born in the Netherlands to a Dutch mother and Nigerian father, making him eligible for both countries.

He represented the Netherlands at youth level before switching allegiance to Nigeria and made his debut for the three-time African champions in a match against Chad on 13 June 2015.

He won Olympic football bronze with Nigeria at the 2016 Rio Games and has scored once in 24 appearances for the Super Eagles.

Romance / Australian Woman Deals With Break-up By Marrying Herself by Alphasoar(m): 1:31pm On Jul 30, 2018
Recovering from the break-up of a long-term relationship is never easy.

Do you go straight back on the rebound or wallow in self-pity for months on end, never leave the house and binge watch everything on Netflix?

Of course, there is no definitive answer to this problem as it is just something everyone has to go through,.

But one woman in Australia has found a very unique way of dealing with heartache.

Linda Doktar, a 34-year-old conscious coach from the Gold Coast, separated from her partner last year and during her journey, she decided to marry herself.
Yes, that's right Linda got tied-the-knot with herself on Valentine's Day in a romantic and intimate ceremony on the beach.

You are probably asking, 'how and why would someone get married to themselves?'

While ceremonies like this do happen, they are not legally binding. However, they are seen as a symbol of self-respect and valuing oneself.

Linda says she heard of the concept from her friend Ej, who held the wedding. She is quoted by Lad Bible as saying:

"Ej had just begun to hold these ceremonies for others, and I thought this was a beautiful concept to symbolise my journey into loving and honouring myself on a deeper level.

I thought this was a beautiful concept to symbolise my journey into loving and honouring myself on a deeper level.

Ej asked me to write my vows and commitments for my special day. She also asked me to choose a dress and a song that would mean a lot to me.

There was a red satin walkway, lined with rose petals and flowers, it was beautiful.

As the ceremony progressed, I read my vows and commitments out loud to myself, while looking into a hand-held mirror.

I didn't have any guests, it was just Ej and her two assistants for the photos.

I decided to wear a long white summer dress with pastel colours and instead of a ring I wore a necklace that symbolised my commitment to myself."

When I look back at my ceremony I smile because it reminds me of a turning point in my life when I decided to connect to deeper levels of self-love and self-connection.

It put me on a path to a better relationship with myself.

The ceremony itself only cost Linda a few hundred dollars and, although she had faced judgment, she has vowed that she will love herself for the rest of her life.

"I believe that the most important relationship I will ever have is with myself. I know and understand that the quality of the relationship we have with ourselves determines the quality of experiences we have with others.

"Our external world is a complete reflection of our internal world. Some people have judged me, and I have been laughed at, but I've mostly been received with love and an open mind.

Many people thought it was a beautiful concept. When I look back at my ceremony I smile because it reminds me of a turning point in my life when I decided to connect on a deeper level.

I am a conscious woman who knows who she is and knows what my self-marriage ceremony meant for me personally.

After being disconnected from myself for so many years, I now plan to continue on my journey of self-love. This has significantly improved the state of my internal happiness and the relationship and connections I now experience outside of myself."

This isn't the first time that someone getting married to themselves has made headlines, although they don't always end happily ever after.

Last year, Sophie Tanner appeared on an episode of This Morning after she revealed that she had an affair despite marrying herself in 2015.

Politics / CONFIRMED: Dino Melaye Was Never Kidnapped by Alphasoar(m): 2:14pm On Jul 27, 2018
Although Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West, resurfaced on Friday to claim he “spent 11 hours in the wilderness”, SaharaReporters can confirm that he was never kidnapped.

Melaye was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday before the Magistrate court in Abuja for alleged gunrunning, but the trial could not hold due to the claims by Senator Ben Bruce, quoting Melaye’s brother, that he had been abducted by unknown gunmen.

On Friday, he wrote on Twitter: “I thank God once again for escaping another dangerous attack. I also thank Nigerians for their prayers and show of Love. Spent 11 hours in the wilderness traumatized but God preserved me. God is the best and in whom ONLY I trust. They will continue to try. WE SHALL OVERCOME!!!”

Contrary to those claims, Melaye’s relatives and many senators have told SaharaReporters that he was never kidnapped but only staged a walk into a bush to avoid being charged before a Kogi High Court.

Religion / Seed Sowing Saga: Foreign Based Nigerians Want Rev Funke Barred From UK & USA by Alphasoar(m): 12:14pm On Jul 23, 2018
Reverend Funke Adejumo may be barred from entering the UK, US and other EU nations that is if a new petition launched on change.org goes through.

The petition launched by a Mayowa Olaiya wants Reverend Adejumo to be barred from entering the UK because "she is a religious charlatan who defrauds people."

In Mayowa’s words: “Funke Felix Adejumo is one of a group of Nigerian religious Charlatans who regularly visit the UK to defraud the people and the country.

They ask people to sow seeds for miracles and breakthrough and flee from the country with the funds without paying tax. They go from Churches to churches; this is a religious cabal network.”

This petition may not be unrelated to several videos showing the popular pastor asking for donations from church goers. In one video, she asks for N1million and in another she asks for $1000. Mayowa’s petition currently has over 2500 signatures.

When it reaches 5000 signatures, it will be presented to British Prime Minister Theresa May who is then expected to act on it. Meanwhile, other petitions have emerged also asking that Adejumo is barred from entering the US and other European Union (EU) countries.

The petition that wants to stop her from entering the US was started by a Daniel Audu who believes she is laundering money with the pretence of a church.

He wrote: “We are determined to stop the extortion and money laundering going on in the United States by fraudulent Nigerian pastor Rev Funke Felix Adejumo.

She hides under the pretence of being a woman of God and extort money from gullible unsuspecting members in different Nigerian churches across the United States.

We have reason to believe this woman is laundering money from the United States through the pretence of a church. This is an illegal money laundry channel and we need to regulate or stop this extortion.”

Reverend Adejumo has not responded to any of the petitions.

Literature / Amaka's Love Story by Alphasoar(m): 6:31am On Jul 20, 2018
If fate could be lenient with her and her wish is granted, it would be for her to get married before June next year when she turns 38. After all, she has got all that will make a man want to marry her - A nice body, a great career and a good home management skill as a mother to be.

"I am not going to bother myself about anything involving relationships and marriage again, am just tired" She told Jane coldly after her 37th birthday last week.
"Don't say that Amaka", Jane cautions her.
"Segun is not the only man out there; there are a lot of men who would gladly take you to the altar at the slightest opportunity. Why kill yourself about one Segun of blessed memory" Jane advised. "Oh Jane please, Segun is the seventh man in my life aside Odike. When will that man that will take me to the altar ever show up, when will he? Is it after I’ve dated the whole men in the country? No tell me! She queried as she burst into uncontrollable tears.

She has met Segun at a popular restaurant some nine month ago while attending a birthday party of a former classmate. He was having some drinks with friends when he spotted her from a distance and couldn't stop the chemistry he developed immediately from reacting.

He got Amaka's number on a platter of gold since she was already looking forward to a man in her life after her relationship with Ijeobi ended three months ago. Their first dinner date was at the Elegushi beach at Lekki. It was a romantic fun fair. Their relationship kick started after then and it was all rosy. They always do things together and as a result he had to invite her to come over and stay with him at his place but she said no, preferring a weekly weekend visits.

Their relationship had stayed without rancor for some weeks until she began suspecting his moves. Segun has been a 'good guy' who always walks with eraser to clean his tracks. Though Amaka has on one of her weekly visits to Segun, been advised by neighbours to be at alert whenever he is with Segun as no one could pin point on what he does for a living. His activities are shrewded in secrecy, making everyone suspect he is a love peddler or as widely known, a yahoo boy.

Often time she has demanded to know what and where he worked, but will always be assured that it wasn't something bad. He will always tell her that he deals on supply of farm produce to Malaysia but never mentioned what this produce was.

Two months before Segun's disappearance and sudden news of his demise broke out, he had told her that he had hit a major deal to supply his goods and the deal is worth some millions of naira. On the day of his journey, he woke up as early as 4am to drive out of Lagos traffic to the ports. He was stopped by men on military uniform who demanded to know where and for what reasons he had to drive at those odd hours. He kindly explained himself to them but they were acting on a script already written. They asked him the details of such business deals of which he had to bring out all documents with him. They took and examined and then the unexpected happened, he was shot to death at the spot.

It was later discovered that he was supposed to supply about fifty drums of palm oil to a Malaysian company but was murdered by his close friend who hired the assassins to get hold of the delivery documents and kill him. The friend was later arrested through intelligence gathering by men of the Police force and confessed to the crime.

Though Amaka has not been married to Segun, she always counts herself a widow at the thought of Segun. The matter aggravated some days to her birthday as close friends and family members were always troubling her to get a man and settle down.

*********************
When she finally marries, Alphasoar will let you know, though there is one guy I’ve been suspecting that has been eyeing her grin grin grin. Am sure he can give her some assurance if given the opportunity wink wink wink

Today, June 28, Chike Ukaegbu announced his candidacy for President of Nigeria - a country with over 60% of the population between the ages of 18 and 35. At the age of 35, Chike aspires to become the youngest civilian president of the youthful African nation.

Chike said, "greatness is born of vision; of seeing the invisible and making it a reality. Nigeria needs a visionary leader now more than ever. This is our time and I am the right choice to lead our nation."

Recently named one of the UN's 100 most influential people of African descent under 40, Chike was born in Owerri, Imo State to now retired civil servants. He is a technology entrepreneur living in New York City. He went to school in Nigeria from kindergarten through his second year at University of Lagos before heading to the United States where he studied biomedical engineering at City College of New York, Executive Leadership and Management at Cornell University, took MBA courses at University of Pennsylvania, and studied Venture Capital and Investments at Stanford University.

Chike taught Math for seven years at City College of New York and entrepreneurship for two, while also serving as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence. As a second year student in college, Chike was named a Fellow to the prestigious Colin Powell Fellowship in Leadership and Public Policy, which sparked an interest that led to research in youth disconnection and engaging disenfranchised communities. As a Fellow, he developed the HEROES Model for effective youth engagement.

HEROES is an acronym for Heritage, Education, Relationships, Opportunities, Entrepreneurship and Service; six pivotal areas crucial for effectively empowering children and youth. Disconnection is a term used to define youths who are out of school and out of work between the ages of 15 and 25. Nigeria has about 15 million disconnected youths.

Business / The Only Two Kinds Of Customers A Salesman Will Ever Meet by Alphasoar(m): 9:31pm On Jun 25, 2018
Hy everyone. We are almost at the end of the middle month, June. You have of a truth gone through one or two things within this period and I believe they have helped you get a little closer to your dreams.
Today I just want to do a quick post about the Salesman. A salesman sells services and/or goods/products. He expects to make some huge profits. At the center of selling goods and services, lies a man that has the success and downfall of a salesman at his fingertips. The happiness of a salesman almost depends on him but his continuous happiness will depend on how he (Salesman) treats him. He is called The Customer.

Today I just want to reveal to every salesman, in our language, every businessman, the two kinds of customers that grace your outfit for your product or services. The thing is most people do not give a closer attention to the kind of persons that patronize their businesses. They are always concerned about the returns they get. This set of individuals is not bothered about the utmost satisfaction of their customers. They feel they don't owe the customer more than the goods or services they are going to render to them.
This is why many businesses fail, because care and attention is not giving to ascertain and give the required attention to the different kinds of customers they receive on daily basis. Without wasting any much time, I will discuss the two kinds of customers below.

The Loyal Customers
These sets of customers have tested your goods and services and can attest to your credibility and efficiency in your services delivery. They come once and feel like you are the best in the whole world and so, they keep coming all the times. First, you need to understand that these kinds of customers are hard to come by. Basically, they are ones that have used your services not once or twice but many times and can avouched to the goodness of your deliveries.

These sets of customers are gotten by constant assurance and good marketing skill. They approached your service outlet for the first time and with your great customer approach you woo them into 'first service purchase'. You make your offer as mouth watering as you can and try your best to deliver to the latter all you've convinced them to believe (Even when you know you might not keep to the standard for ever). Change can happen! It isn't bad for a latter time.

When you have made good your offers, they are forced to stick to purchasing your service and might become a good agent of referral for your business. They stick with your service as long as you keep giving them a quality service. They are loyal!

The 'no option' Customers
If you happen to have this set of customers as your major service buyers, my friend your business will fold in no time. These sets of customers are ones that don't have option or alternatives but are forced against their wills to buy a particular service from you. This is not because you are giving them a good service. This is because the availability of the service they are looking for elsewhere is limited or not available. They are the type of persons that wake up in the morning praying that someone who knows that type of service they get from you will knock on their doors with a better option. And when that does happen, they leave your outfit with immediate alacrity and bam, your business is down in a twinkling of an eye.

Let's say for instance, A cooks. She is a food vendor down the street and at the moment she is the only one. Your type of work will not give you the luxury to get food items from the market and prepare something for yourself. You are forced to buy food some certain time from her. But you have discovered that the food is not 'nice'. You wish to buy from another food vendor but you discover that there is none. You will have no option but to keep buying from her while praying that someone will realize your plight and come to your rescue by starting that type of business around the street. When that happens, with the speed of light, you will switch immediately to this new vendor for your satisfaction.

In Africa, especially Nigeria, when this happens, people are fast to cast aspersions on the new person as having done some diabolical and ocultic ceremonies just to get customers while the older person will not sit down to think about what she has been doing wrong.

Am sure every business man will want to have loyal customers. They are gotten by good service delivery. A salesman can have loyal customers by been the best in what he does. First, realize that you are not the only one offering that type of service to the public. When you realize that, then let there be a constant effort to improve in what you do. Seek advice, set new standards and continually try to beat the competition because if you don't, someone who is knowledgeable and willing to make changes will take over your business and at this point, Satan will have no blame whatsoever.

Happy Soaring!

Everybody seems to be on the Argentine side of the divide. They need to win, they need to win is all we hear. Can't someone just write on the papers how Nigeria needs to win to almost be in control of the group?

SMH!

Everyone just lost faith in the Super Eagles. Not making sense. Sometimes we need to look away from the bias foreign media and give ourselves some hope and as well inspire the Eagles.
