Though Trump is acting Strong Man and all, I just hope em no go provoke Iran come 'mistakenly' throw atomic knockout for some people head like our Airmen mistakenly throw some days ago? |
The United States on Friday piled pressure on Iran, slamming sanctions on 13 individuals and 12 entities. The sanctions came days after the White House put Tehran “on notice” over a ballistic missile test. The move against Iran is the first by the U.S. government since President Donald Trump took office on Jan. 20 after vowing during his 2016 campaign to get tough on Tehran. Under the sanctions, those involved cannot access the U.S. financial system or deal with U.S. companies. They are also subject to “secondary sanctions,” which means foreign companies and individuals are prohibited from dealing with them, or risk being blacklisted by the United States. The measures are similar to actions taken by the Obama administration targeting Iran’s ballistic missile network, but senior Trump administration officials said the action was just the opening shot in plans to go after Tehran. A senior U.S. administration said Friday’s sanctions were an “initial step” in response to Iran’s “provocative behavior,” suggesting more could follow if Tehran does not curb its ballistic missile program and continues support for Houthi militia in Yemen. The U.S. moved a Navy destroyer, the USS Cole, close to the Bab al-Mandab Strait off the coast of Yemen to protect waterways. [nL1N1FN26Y] The U.S. Treasury, which listed the individuals and entities affected on its website, said the sanctions were “fully consistent” with U.S. commitments under the nuclear deal clinched between Tehran and six major world powers in 2015, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA. Some of the entities involved are based in the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and China. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/02/trump-slams-sanctions-iran/ |
The Knights of Malta has reaffirmed its allegiance to the pope while acknowledging damage was done by a clash with the Vatican that stemmed from an aid project distributing condoms in the developing world. Matthew Festing was effectively fired as grand master of the Catholic order by Pope Francis as a result of the dispute. Festing had sacked another high-ranked official, Albrecht Freiherr von Boeselager, over the aid project. Festing then challenged the right of the Vatican to hold an inquiry into the removal of Von Boeselager, who insisted he had shut down the programmes as soon as he could after finding out they were distributing condoms. The pope responded by removing Festing, and Von Boeselager, the order’s grand chancellor, was reinstated. “The order reaffirms its loyalty to the Holy Father,” Von Boeselager told a news conference on Thursday. “Let me reassure our members and everybody that the government of the order is and will remain at the service of the holy father. Our devotion to the teachings of the church is irrevocable and beyond question.” Festing, backed by conservative Cardinal Raymond Burke, had stood up to the pope, saying the pontiff, who pushed for Von Boeselager’s reinstatement, could not intervene in the internal affairs of the Knights, a Rome-based institution that has sovereign status and is run like a small country. Festing lost his battle with the Vatican, which said the condom issue was just an excuse by Festing and Burke to wield more power. Dominique Prince de La Rochefoucauld-Montbel, the order’s health minister, said the crisis had led to a drop in donations, including a fall of about €30,000 in a recent fundraising campaign in France. He said leaders of the order – which counts some 13,000 members, 80,000 volunteers and about 25,000 paid employees, mostly medical staff – would have to work hard to regain lost trust. Von Boeselager said: “What the order has experienced was a government crisis brought about by an act illegal under the constitution. We are grateful for the holy father to have provided guidance that led to a swift solution,” Von Boeselager said on Thursday. The future role of Burke, the institution’s “patron” or chaplain, who has openly challenged the pope on a host of doctrinal issues, was not clear. The pope is due to name his own delegate to help run the order until a new grand master can be elected in several months. Von Boeselager said the delegate would be the only interlocutor with the Vatican, effectively sidelining Burke. Von Boeselager would not comment on Burke except to say that Festing had been “ill advised” in his attempt to take on the pope. The all-male top leaders of the Knights of Malta are not clerics but take vows of poverty, chastity and obedience to the pope. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/feb/03/knights-of-malta-still-loyal-to-pope-after-clash-over-condoms |

StupidYorubaFool:You are trying to make "personal" sense bro and I can perfectly get you! BUT; Have you considered why we have high divorce rate, rapes and other morally wrong acts. Now Listen; When you start early to have sex, forgetting fornication whatsoever, you are gradually eating and killing your sexual urge. And as you grow older even before you get married, you are used to it and therefore can stand without it for days and the lady you married can't. She hasnt gotten enough of it but you've gotten enough of it. It leads to adultery, she looks for a man that can give her more. She finds the man and then ask you for divorce! That's how it goes until other morally wrong acts are committed. Remember; You cannot eat your cake and have it! #WehDoneSir |

An unexpected row has broken out between Australia and the US, prompted by (what else?) a tweet by Donald Trump: Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) Do you believe it? The Obama Administration agreed to take thousands of illegal immigrants from Australia. Why? I will study this dumb deal! February 2, 2017 The tweet followed a report in the Washington Post that claimed a phone call between Trump and the Australian prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, had ended abruptly and acrimoniously, with the president reportedly labelling it “the worst call by far” with a foreign leader. The two were said to have clashed over a deal struck between the Turnbull government and the Obama administration at the end of last year, which would have seen up to 1,250 refugees currently stranded in Australia’s offshore detention camps on Nauru and Manus island considered for resettlement in the US. In return, Australia would take refugees from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. A source told the Washington Post that Trump had accused Australia of trying to send over the “next Boston bombers”, raging that keeping to the agreement would “kill” him politically and calling it: The worst deal ever. While Turnbull told reporters he would not comment on the content of the conversation, he did deny that the US president had hung up on him, insisting the call – which lasted for 25 minutes instead of the hour afforded other world leaders – “ended courteously”. The Australian prime minister insisted the US remained committed to the deal: We have a commitment from the US president, confirmed several times now by the government. This is not a deal that he would have done or that he would regard as a good deal … But the question is, will he commit to honour the deal and he has given that commitment. Just an hour and 40 minutes before Trump tweeted, a spokesperson for the US embassy in Canberra said the “decision to honour the refugee agreement has not changed … This was just reconfirmed to the State Department from the WH [White House] and on to this embassy at 1315 Canberra time.” But Trump’s tweet – labelling the agreement a “dumb deal”, saying he would review it, and incorrectly calling those affected “illegal immigrants” (they are refugees) – now seems to have put those earlier assurances very much in doubt. Just a few days ago, the Australian treasurer, Scott Morrison, refused to be drawn into widespread criticism of Trump’s travel ban, saying the rest of the world was now “catching up” with Australia’s harsh policies on immigration: We are the envy of the world when it comes to strong border protection policies. The rest of the world would love to have our borders and the way they are secured and the immigration arrangements we have put in place, particularly most recently, over the last three or four years. We’ve got a good history around this. Really, the rest of the world is catching up to Australia. Morrison also praised the refugee resettlement deal – then apparently confirmed between Trump and Turnbull – as “an extraordinary achievement” by the Australian PM: [The prime minister] is very pleased we’ve been able to secure this arrangement. They are both business people, aren’t they, and a deal’s a deal. What you need to know about the refugee deal The deal relates to 1,250 refugees held on Australia’s offshore detention camps on Nauru and Manus Island, including many from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran and Iraq. The refugees, some of whom are stateless, have spent years languishing in the offshore detention camps, which the United Nations has repeatedly criticised as cruel and illegal . They are unable to go home, but the government says they cannot come to Australia – even where confirmed to be genuine refugees – because they travelled to Australia by boat. The vast majority of those in Australia’s offshore detention regime have been confirmed to have a valid claim to refugee status, meaning they are legally owed Australia’s protection. The deal was also to include hundreds of refugees who were in Australia receiving medical care, provided they had been found to be refugees. In November, the US agreed to take an undisclosed number of refugees. Applicants were to be interviewed twice by US officials before being resettled, in a process that was to take between six and 12 months. The deal was seen as a significant win for the Turnbull government. Australia has searched in vain for a sustainable plan for refugees. For more than three years Australia has maintained it will never settle on the mainland asylum-seekers who arrive by boat. But the policy has led to regular reports of human rights abuses, many of them documented in the Guardian’s publication of the Nauru files , and is bitterly condemned by refugees advocates inside and outside Australia. At the time of the US agreement, only 24 refugees had been resettled in Papua New Guinea, and a handful in Cambodia. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/live/2017/feb/02/donald-trump-dumb-deal-australia-refugee-resettlement-live

By Chimaobi Nwaiwu DAYS after a clash with some marauding Fulani herdsmen, the people of Akokwa community in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State are still haunted by the memory of the many lives lost in that bloody encounter. But in what would appear as a surprising departure from the trend, they have instead of seeking for revenge against the perpetrators of the dastardly act, opted to make peace with God for the role they played individually and collectively in the tragic incident. For this purpose they recently organised a prayer rally through which they sought for “God’s Restoration and Mercy on the Land”, while appealing to God not to allow such tragic incident happen again. The prayer rally titled “Akokwa Great Prayer Gathering for God’s Restoration and Mercy on the Land” was held at St Peters Anglican Church Field, Akokwa. The community used the opportunity of the rally to discuss the security lapses and deficiency that made the herdsmen attack possible and how to avert future occurrence. Part of the preventive action taken was to meet the main conditions given by the police authorities, including the building of a well-equipped Divisional Police Headquarters to ensure proper and efficient policing of Ideato North LGA. In his opening prayers, Venerable C.S.O Ukachukwu quoting from 2nd Chronicle Chapter 7 Verse 14, said: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. He prayed to God to forgive the invaders and the people of Akokwa who engaged in retaliatory killings, and heal the land. “We know that any sin we commit affects our land; it is the sins of Adam that kept us in perpetual suffering”. Still quoting the Scriptures, he declared thus: “In the eyes of men it is not possible for one to love and do good for those who hate us, but for God it is possible to love one’s enemy. People are being killed on daily basis and others commit all sorts of atrocities; all these affect our land, and yet God loves and forgives us. “We are asking God to forgive us today for the bloodshed in Akokwa; the sins of the fathers affect their children. While we are here for atonement, we have to humble ourselves; we have to pray, we must repent and by so doing God will hear and show us mercy.” Other men of God who spoke during the prayer gathering were Bishop Bartholomew Ibe of Glorious Later Learners Ministry, Rev Fr. Bartholomew Nnorom of St Johns the Cross Parish Orlu, Major Patrick Orasibe, Divisional Commander in charge of Salvation Army , Anambra State. The organiser of the prayer gathering and President General of Akokwa United Progressive People’s Assembly, AUPPA, Chief Paul Ngoka, said his administration found it very imperative to ask God for forgiveness after the incident because, to him, “Akokwa is for Jesus.” Traditional rulers in attendance during the prayers were HRH, Eze Nnana Lambert of Owerri Akokwa, HRH, Eze Michae Anyaoha, of Umukegwu Akokwa, HRH Eze Charles Ejezie of Akwu Akokwa and HRH Eze Charles Biere of Umuezeaga Akokwa. Handing over the Divisional Police Headquarters built by the community to Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Chief Ngoka said the people of Akokwa spent about N7 million to build and renovate what was formerly Akokwa Police Post into what is now the Akokwa Police Divisional Headquarters. “Part of the money was also used for fencing the police station, building a gate and security house, renovating the police quarters, providing furniture, equipping the DPO and DCO offices as well as furniture for the exhibit and visitors rooms, and building counters for keeping files,” he informed. Chief Ngoka who was a former President General of Household Utensils Dealers Multipurpose Cooperative Society, HUDMCS, Onitsha, where he also distinguished himself in service to humanity, handed a Nissan Patrol Van to Mr. Lakanu for use by Akokwa Divisional Police Headquarters. “This Divisional Police Headquarters will also serve Uga, Amesi and Umuchu, all in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, who are our immediate neighbouring towns. Chief Ngoka in his address during occasion said “the police station was initially commissioned by Mr. Leans, an Assistant Commissioner of Police in the then Eastern Region on 27th November 1963 to Divisional Police Headquarters, but the creation of Ideato Local Government Area, with its headquarters at Urualla in 1976, relegated it to a police post”. He did not stop there. “All the political skirmishes that transpired then are now history, but Akokwa remained focused and undaunted and as God may have it today, we are rejoicing and celebrating the rebirth of Akokwa Divisional Police Headquarters as it was in 1963. The journey for the elevation of Akokwa Police Post to its former position as Akokwa Divisional Police Headquarters, started immediately after the violent clash between herdsmen and some members of the community, which would have been averted if there were enough police men to respond to the distress call by the community when the invading herdsmen struck. “When we demanded for this Divisional Police Headquarters, some conditions were given and we met them and the police authorities sent an inspection team which came and was conducted round; the police made some recommendations which we also met. “The need for this Police Divisional Headquarters became imperative following the attack on our community by some herdsmen; the porous borders with communities in Anambra State, the presence of Orie Akowka market, banks and economic growth and population also justify the need.” He added: “Knowing that security is everyone’s business, we decided to work in synergy with the police by providing them the enabling environment to discharge their onerous constitutional responsibilities of protecting lives and properties. Akokwa people in their usual characteristics of being proactive have provided the Nigeria Police with all the things they need in the Division and are ready to provide more. We are also going to build the DPO’s and other senior police officers quarters so they can reside in our town”. In his speech the State CP, Mr. Lakanu, commended the community for meeting all the requirements presented to them before granting their request, and promised to equip it with manpower and ammunition to meet the level of crime in the area and its neighbouring towns. “We will open a unit of Mobile Police Force and Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS and deploy men of Federal Highway Police operatives to ensure patrol on the Oba in Anambra, Okigwe- Akokwa in Imo state Federal Highway.” The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the new Police Division, Mr. Anele Nkemakolam, said: “Akokwa people are accommodating and willing to cooperate with the police in fighting crime” and assured the community and Mr. Lakanu that the Division under him will contribute towards strengthening the security of persons and property in the area. “We will investigate, detect and prosecute offenders within the rule of law, facilitate free passage and movement on high ways, roads and streets in the area and the creation and reinforcement of trust to the police in the communities.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/02/bloody-attack-herdsmen-imo-community-seeks-divine-intervention/

Never thinking about been president by sudden or to be in the future, he has sat at Nigeria's highest seat of power for ten day. Do you think he has offered something that could make him a potential president o f the Federal Republic at the end of PMB's tenure if he wishes to contest. At least he's tasted it and then 'what did he do with it'. The easterners will say 'mbere gede ka eji amara dike'. You know a strong man by an emergency or by sudden occurence. Let's discuss. Back your answer by listing his achievements in ten days! #OsinbajoInTenDays
