CareerRe: Life As A Nigerian Graduate Can Be So Frustrating by alphykool(m): 9:56am On Aug 23, 2011
Hi, Geeky,
Your frustration is understandable. Any one that graduate and could not get job immediately will sure understand your frustration. I was once in your position for about 5years. Quite frustrating! However, there is this popular saying "the end justify the means". Even though, you're not competing with anybody. Yes, today, I can tell you am gainfully employed. So, it doesn't matter how long you may have stayed at home looking for job. Yes, I repeat! It doesn't matter. Remain focus and you sure will get a job. Your frustration might be one of the reasons I start my blog on www.ejobsearchtalk.com. Yes, I want to use it as a medium to share my experience and probably see how it could be of help for those that are still searching for job.

Geeky, it might not be easy to convince you now of the possibility of your getting a job, but you don't have to lock-up your mind. Think positively and remain positive, and this will help you to forge ahead. No matter the level of frustration, just try to remain yourself. Your dream job will come. You can read my blog and probably see how it could help, because I'm sure you'll be encouraged.
Thank You!

CareerRe: I Neeeed Heeellp! by alphykool(m): 2:50pm On Aug 08, 2011
Hi,
You need not to be afraid or scared of not knowing any person to give you job after you graduated except your classmate. I think you might be right but that should and must not determine your getting job or not. All you have to do is to be optimistics. Being optimistics might not be enough either, you MUST work things out yourself now that you're still in school. How do I mean? Yes, first thing first, do your bit to finish your school with a nice grade. Again, after your NYSC, settle down and define your job search goal and work towards it. Getting a job in our today's economy is becoming hard nut to crack, and so you need to workout means to have an edge over others. Employers or recruiters have criterion on the requirement which they want from each job opening, and you might not know the criterion. So, get prepared for employers and you find them looking for you if you have what they want. That is why you doesn't have to be afraid at all. Of course, man-know-man will not be ruled out but it's not a determinant.
Thanks,

CareerRe: Pls, Advice This Fellow by alphykool(m): 2:52pm On Jul 27, 2011
Hi,
Good that you're making such a money, and now you want to know if to stay with the fx trade or still look for job. If you're confortable with the 50k, it's ok but I may want to suggest you still look for job. You making money from fx trading should now make you feel more comfortable to looking for job. Now you will have a choice, and now just job that comes your way. The worse thing is looking for job without anything in your pocket. It's obviously too frustrating. On the other hand, make sure you concentrate on how you're making the money, and become more perfect in it. By the time you become grounded in it, you can use the money to open up other business, investment so to say. This might even land you in being on your own than working 8am-5p. Actually, you have the final decision.

CareerRe: Zenith Bank's Inhumanity To Man by alphykool(m): 11:44am On Jul 26, 2011
Hi there,
Zenith Bank is a private organization with the sole aim of making profit and remain in business. So, how they go about reducing expenses varies, and one of them is downsizing of staff. When a company is downsizing, they don't really consider how long you may have put in. Why Zenith Bank embark on reduction of its workforce is what I don't know, and the process it went through it. However, this is one several possible ways of improving profitability or reduce costs, reduce layers of management to increase decision making speed and get closer to the customer, sharpen focus on core competencies of the firm, and outsource peripheral activities, and generate positive reactions from shareholders in order to improve valuation of stock price and increase productivity. These might be reasons for downsizing of staff.

Meanwhile, no one will feel differently from how those affected are feeling right now. Like, I will say, you really have to take heart and see what you could do differently this time. Every organization is like an individuals, and you have to try all you can to sustain yourself. If you're affected, plaese, do accept my sympathy. And have it at the back of your mind, that is not the end of the road for you. Try to look at it in the spiritual angle. However, name you call Zenith never changes things, we must face the reality sometimes. That is policy for you. You're today worse off because of the lay-off, meanwhile, the stakeholders of the bank will be smiling because this is one of the ways to increase productivity. Do take control of the situation!
Thank U!

CareerRe: Just Lost My Job! by alphykool(m): 11:18am On Jul 26, 2011
Hi, Uche,
I really want to say take heart, it actually one of those worse case scenarios when you're working for someone else. It's not the end of the road for you, maybe God want to open up another door for you. Stratagize on how you could possibly get another job, having gotten enough experience. You should as well think widely ie try if you can do something differently this time. How do I mean, you may have to see what you can do to be on your own. It's actually the best thing, only that some of us find it difficult.
Do take control of the situation, ok.

CrimeRe: Hafiz Lecky Is A Scammer: Please Avoid Him by alphykool(m): 12:00pm On Jul 22, 2011
Hi there,
I think what I have to say is, you should be careful of what you do or go into. Get it straight, there is no easy way or quick way of making money. Rather, you must work the work. I just imagine someone telling you to invest money because of one thing or the other. If the ROI is that high, that he will pay you 10-12k for one month as ROI, you sure he will go to bank to seek for loan. You should not be fooled. However, you may have learnt your lesson bitterly.

On the other hand, the so called Hafiz has killed his reputation no matter how he may look at it. The problem with most people is that they joke over there reputation for nothing. Whenever, you're very desperate to make it in the shortrun, you sure will mortgage your future. You should always carry out due diligence in all your dealing. Do not allow your emotion to becloud your rational thinking.

Look for something meaningful to do, and don't expect any other person to fool you through heaven and earth promise. Avoid them!

CareerRe: Where Do I Go From Here? by alphykool(m): 10:58am On Jul 21, 2011
Hello, Ejemu,
I must tell you to keep focus, and don't see yourself as now in IT job as a mistake. You are a geologist doesn't mean you must work as a geologist. As I'm talking to you, I read Economics but today, I'm in the Corporate Environment Department of one of the oil company in Nigeria. How did I get there? It's because of the fact that when I graduated, I didn't have the opportunity to work in one of the bank as an Economist, but today I must thank God. This issue actually has prompted me to start blogging on how to stay motivated while looking or searching for job. Even if IT is changing often, keep up with the time, explore more opportunities there and work your way to the top.

CareerRe: Please I Need Your Help by alphykool(m): 1:08pm On Jul 20, 2011
Hi,
You have graduated and still at home for sometimes now, well I want to encourage you not to give up. I read Economics, just like you did. I stayed at home for close to 3years. However, I may want to suggest you start any work you can lay your hand. Some of us never wanted to start small job, but this is where the experience to prepare you for the big job comes in. After graduating and having tired of staying at home, I opted to work for free. How? I started analying questionnaire free for one social impact assessment consultant, you know how time consuming analysing questionnaire is. Inspite of that I never ask him for a kobo. You may not believe it, those experience placed me where I am today.

So, look for whom you feel you can attached yourself to. Do that which you find yourself doing with your whole heart, even if you're not getting anything from it. Aim at the longterm, ok. I can't say much here, you just have to take action.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: How Much Does Insurance Companies Paay Gradutes? by alphykool(m): 12:50pm On Jul 20, 2011
Hello there!
In search of job, you really may not look at the pay. How do you mean? You may ask! I believe in that school of taught that you should not despise the day of your little beginning. The labour market is saturated and inspite of that, more graduate are produced every year. Where are we all going to work? Now, starting from wherever, and that is if you have the opportunity, you should. The little experience you'll gain there while doing that small job will give you an edge over other when you go for the big ones. Although, "big job" is still relative. But, gathering that experience now will help you. You obviously have a plan, don't give it up. Don't look at that pay.

Insurance companies for all I know don't necessarily pay graduate very well to start with, although they often start graduate with marketing. Surviving this stage depend on your determination to succeed against all odd. It's also good to ask ourself questions sometimes. Those at the top, how did they start? If they are there, sure you can get there. Start something today and don't attach so much interest on your immediate benefit. Well, this is very important, aiming at the longterm will place you where you'll be tomorrow. Have fun!
