Igede have no say in the politics of Benue State. Politics › Buni Reorganises APC Convention Sub-committees by alsudan(op): 12:01pm On Mar 18, 2022
The return of Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, as the Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has seen the reorganisation of the convention sub-committees of the party.

According to a release on Thursday by the Secretary of the CECPC, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, the reorganisation has seen Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje who was the Chairman of the Protocol Committee, being replaced by his Kogi State counterpart, Yahaya Bello.

Instead, Ganduje was moved to the accreditation of Volunteers/Diplomats/Diaspora/Observers sub-committee

In the same vein, former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, who was dropped from one of the committees by the CECPC acting Chairman, Governor Sani Bello of Niger State, was reappointed into the Media and Publicity sub-committee headed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.

In his short reign as the acting Chairman of the party, Bello had inaugurated the convention sub-committees and declared their membership composition as final.

In sweeping moves, he had also removed many of those earlier appointed by Buni and swapped their positions.

Particularly, Bello had removed Fani-Kayode from the Publicity sub-committee and replaced him with Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, as co-Chairman.

But in the new list approved by Buni, Mohammed’s name was conspicuously missing with Akpanudodehe emphatically stating that the new list supersedes any other one in circulation.

Politics › El Rufai Threatens Revolt Over Buni Leadership by alsudan(op): 10:27am On Mar 18, 2022
The leadership crisis bedeviling the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) seems to be far from over despite assurances by stakeholders of a unified front.

In the aftermath of internal wrangling within the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday, criticised the ‘charade’ threatening to divide the party ahead of its March 26 National Convention.

Furthermore, the Governor grimly predicted an eventual disintegration of the party, if the ongoing crisis lingers.

In a WhatsApp message allegedly sent to the other APC Governors, El-Rufai enumerated the list of vices being displayed by members of the party, as a reason for his discontent.

The message read, as shared, “Your Excellences, unity is impossible to attain when leaders that are in office, because we consented to it, are consistently erratic, capricious, corrupt, and deceitful.

“Loyalty begets loyalty.
“Deception begets mistrust.
“Betrayal begets revolt.
“Ineptness, greed, and selfishness threaten to destroy what has been built over nearly a decade, by those who didn’t even know how this party was put together.

“Let’s restate that I am done with this charade, unless concrete, honest and transparent steps are taken to implement our agreed plans under a leadership we trusted.

“Thank you. Nasir El-Rufai.”

Last week Wednesday, El-Rufai said the APC governors had discovered a grand conspiracy between the lawyers of the Chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni to postpone the national convention of the party through a court injunction.

He said the court injunction which was obtained in November 2021, was never challenged by Buni.

El-Rufai, during Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme, stated, “We got to know of a court order last year. It was obtained in November. A member of the party went to court to say there must not be a convention until his case against the party is disposed of which can take months or years and the lawyers of Buni went to court and agreed with the person and nobody knew about this order.

“It was a hidden nuclear weapon to destroy the convention which further made us believe that there are fifth columnists in the party that want to bring this party down because if we don’t have (convention) and we go ahead with the primaries we might likely have our candidates lose all their seats as the case in Zamfara.

Food › Bakers Threaten Shutdown As Diesel Price, Others Soar by alsudan(op): 11:20am On Mar 15, 2022
Bakers under the aegis of Premium BreadMakers Association of Nigeria are mulling a total shutdown of operations, following steady and fast increases in the price of diesel in the past few days.

The association said the continued rise in the price of diesel had made the price of the commodity to be doubled, warning that a total shutdown of operations by break-makers was imminent.

The PBAN President, Emmanuel Onuorah, made the declaration during an interview with our correspondent.

He explained that the diesel prices hikes were taking a serious toll on bread production for its members.

As a result, he called on the Federal Government to urgently accelerate efforts towards tackling the problem to avoid a shutdown of operations by its members.

He said, “This country may collapse on everybody. Industries will shut down operations, and all of us will go down. Imagine the price of diesel going towards N850/litre. Remember, I said wheat is not the problem, and that it is energy that will be the major problem in this Russian-Ukraine war. Almost N850 for a litre of diesel, and they are still increasing it every day.”

“Is it that marketers just brought in this product and this is why they are increasing the price by the day? Our businesses will just begin to shut down one after the other. That’s what I’m contemplating doing now. I will shut down all the bakeries. Diesel is what we use in running our generators, diesel is what we use in running our oven. What we were buying N350 is now about N850 in less than a week.”
