Some options if you are outside Canada at the moment:

1.renew your passport in your maiden name in a state that does not require NIN (I think only Lagos, Rivers and Abuja issue the enhanced passport that requires NIN, I may be wrong). This way the names on PR card and passport remain the same.

I have asked at the passport offices and NIN is compulsory in all states now for renewals and new passports.

2. if you prefer to have the new passport in your new name, then apply for a new PR card in your new name (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/new-immigrants/pr-card/how-to-apply.html) and simultaneously apply for a PRTD in your new name with new passport details (in case the card is not produced on time). A PRTD application last month (Feb) took about a week to be approved........even if passport stamping takes 2 months it'll be ready well ahead of August. Apply for PRTD here: https://prson-srpel.apps.cic.gc.ca/en/login

Currently checking this out.
3. attempt to travel with PR card, old passport in maiden name, new passport in married name and marriage certificate/change of name affidavit - success may depend on the airline (if they let you fly) and may get complicated if you are transiting through another country before you get to Canada. I may be wrong about this, just an opinion. Hopefully, someone who may have tried it responds.

I've been told that I can by IRCC. They asked that I send a message to CBSA just to affirm, which I have done.

My current options are:
1. Travelling before the 6 months mark as my current passport expires in November 2023
2. Renewing the passport and traveling with all supporting documents with the hopes that I can fly. The issue here is really with airlines as @GraciousWords pointed out.

@ednut1 @GraciousWords any additional advice please?
Also, how easy is it renewing Nigerian passports in Ottawa?
Anyone with advice/information that will be helpful? Do you also know anyone who probably has been in this same situation before? Kindly help. Thank you.

Good day everyone.

I short-landed in Calgary in December 2022 as a PR being the PA (our PR process was done with my maiden name on my passport).
I intend to renew my Nigeria passport in my maiden name to my marital name before traveling back with my family to Canada in August 2023 (The new process requires the NIN which is in my marital name).

Kindly help with these questions:
1. Can I travel back with my renewed passport in my marital name while my PR card is in my maiden name?
2. What supporting documents do I need at the port of entry asides from an affidavit and marriage certificate?

Thank you so much for your contributions and anticipated help.

Sure send the US passport if it has more than 6 months to expiry.

I assume IRCC are asking for passport bio data because your old ones have expired or have less than 6 months to expiry. When a dual citizen applies for PR and one passport is a US one, IRCC usually default to the US one so please proceed with that....that's what I would do.

I'm 99.9999% sure it won't be an issue. If you got remed you'll notice they used the US passport details for the child. Also if you ever ordered GCMS notes you'd notice the US one was used even though the child also has Nigerian nationality.

Will you submitting these as an upload on your profile or by email? Do both if possible.

Thank you ma'am. Will do. I really appreciate your prompt responses. God bless you. Amen

@GraciousWords, thanks for all your help here!
I sent the emails using the email addresses you shared and those shared by @Dimple10.
I got an update to send recent passport pages for my husband and child.
My child's new Nigerian passport isn't ready yet.
Please advise on whether one can submit a US passport for a child if the Nigerian passport is not yet available.

For those asking how to find out their VO......

Allegory gave some expo some time ago:

"saw this on telegram about finding out your vo

singapore-im-enquiry@international.gc.ca

spore.immigration@international.gc.ca

Send email to any of the emails above and ask of your status. By tomorrow they will reply you of your current VO
"

Even though I know my VO, I tested it and it worked. I'm not sure it's their job but I suspect they are just so efficient that they get a mail and immediately respond, redirecting you. They'll typically say they are not your VO but XXXX office is.

Hello ma'am. Congratulations on your PPR. I was so excited to read about your journey, thank you for always sharing and helping everyone here. I'm also one of the 2019 applicants (AOR September 2019), though I've been a guest on the page till now smiley.
Please do you know the email of the Canadian minister to send a mail to? I'd like to explore all other options before opting for the Mandamus like you did. Thank you.
