thus, from elementary mathematics,

tan90° = (m2- m1)/(1 + m2m1) which has no finite value.

so, 1 + m2m1 = 0

i.e, m2m1 = -1 for two perpendicular lines

where m=gradient of the line

so, the first thing I did was actually making Y the subject of formula.

look closesly & u will see that on that line equation u made Y the subject, it's m = -4/3

Then we proceeded forward by using the rule for two lines to be perpendicular……… m1 * m2 = -1

m1 = the gradient of the 1st line
m2= gradient of 2nd

we don't av m2 .
make m2 the subject in

-4/3 * m2 = -1

i.e m2 = 3/4

then proceed………… using the formula for one-point form

(y-y1)/(x-x1) = m2

This again is to illustrate what I was discussing earlier. Hopefully this example can put paid to my point.

Divide: ax^3x - 26x^2x + 156a^x - 216 by a^2x - 24a^x + 108

A. a^x - 2
B. a^x + 2
C. a^x - 8
D. a^x - 6

In order to solve this question, the typical thing to do would be to simplify the numerator and also the denominator. Then something should cancel out and you should get one of the options listed above.

Never go through such stress in the examination hall. Perhaps when studying, no problem. For an exam like JAMB, you need all the shortcuts you can apply.

For a question like this, just make a = 1 & x = 1. Substitute that into both the question and the answer, and you should get

Divide: 1 - 26 + 156 - 216 by 1 - 24 + 108

A. 1 -2 = -1
B. 1 + 2 = 3
C. 1 - 8 = -7
D. 1 - 6 = -5

1 - 26 + 156 - 216 = -85 & 1 - 24 + 108 = +85

Dividing gives you -85/85 = -1 which means A is the answer.

All of this should take you less than a minute and you can move on to the next question.

Thanks, symbiosis is correct. But strictly speaking, commensalism is a type of symbiosis, hence the relationship between man and this species of bacteria is most appropriately termed commensalism. The other strict term would have been mutualism, but the bacteria does not "directly" give man any benefit. I can still learn, anyway. I guess my biology should be rusty by now.
