PoliticsRe: Tourism: Lagos Government Opens 2025 With A Roadshow, Aims New Records by AMKAG66(m): 10:38pm On Jan 05, 2025
Gajagojo:
Yoruba is the language of Lagos
So your remark about assuming everyone speaks Yoruba is offensive and stupid
That is their homeland

What happens in Luanda, Sao Paolo , Beijing, Paris or Bogota. ??

You go to their homeland and say they assume everyone speaks Yoruba. If you cannot make an effort to learn do not go there.

The fact that you slavishly accept anglicization does not mean everyone else will or must. We view English as a mark of enslavement and will discard it one day.
You can continue teaching your children English if you like.

Lagos is a Yoruba state not a global city . It is not for you to make aspirations for the owners of the land on their behalf. You people just open your mouths to vomit shit
.

And who asked you to write a long epistle about whether it’s a “Yoruba state” or Igbo state or whatsoever?
How is that a concern for someone like me who is only visiting Lagos for tourism or business purposes?
I took my time to express my sincere feedbacks/observations objectively and the best you could come up with was a very obnoxious bile laced with subtle tribalism.
From an outsider’s perspective like mine, Lagos is just a global city in Nigeria. Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy and others are just Nigerians that have established themselves very well globally. That’s all we see.
It’s sad that you completely failed to comprehend my message and only ended up engaging in unnecessary insults and unprovoked aggression just the same way I mentioned in my post.
Is the state not trying to position itself as a global city according to the efforts by the governor?
Doesn’t common sense dictates there should be allowances?
Is your role as a host not supposed to be that of a cajoling one rather than what you very self just displayed in this your response to my post?

You’re a very bad PR officer for Lagos state tourism drive. Please try to do better next time.

Anyways, hope you enjoyed your holiday?

The next keen investment competition I foresee is in the electricity sector the followed by the Agric, healthcare ,Real Estate and Education in that order .
I predict starting from mid this year onwards, both local and foreign investments will surge. The economic stability measures are taking effects and industrial players are closely watching. The future outlook is strongly positive.
Watch this space.
PoliticsRe: Tourism: Lagos Government Opens 2025 With A Roadshow, Aims New Records by AMKAG66(m): 7:32am On Jan 05, 2025
Overall, Lagos is not bad at all. It is way advanced than what the media has been portraying it to be. The infrastructure is mind blowing and a lot is coming up too.
The Islands are in a different league all together. Just some very minute detailing here and there in few parts and they will generally become world class.
Places like Ikeja, Yaba, Marina,etc.. are ok too. They’re advanced than most African Countries capital cities.
With consistency,I’ll give Lagos the next 10-15 years and it will be unrecognizable.

The governor should just be intentional about reducing the number of “Agberos” on the mainland.
The operations of the “Yellow buses” can be improved on as well; ask each bus owner to upgrade their buses to a particular standard(s) with both the interior/exterior and engine systems. Those that are completely out of order should be remove from the road. I noticed that most of the drivers are aggressive for no reason. They are unnecessarily provoked to aggression for no reason whatsoever even at a stranger asking for directions. I also noticed that they’ll assume everyone speaks Yoruba even when someone is communicating in English to them.
They’re also very rough on the road and always in rush. The state government can organize continuous professional training for them to tackle these challenges. This is very important for a city that wants to establish itself as a go to global tourism hub.
The number of street beggars should also be looked at.

If the state has the money, the government should also be intentional about covering most of the gutters and pedestrian walkways ,and additional reduce the street trading /temporary stalls occupying most of the pedestrian walkways and foot bridges on the Mainland. Just regulate the street trading to some extent on the mainland.
The environment around rail tracks also needs constant cleaning up. I noticed too much of littering around it by street traders who even display their goods on the tracks as well as Agberos who loitered around.
Like I said, everything should be intentional for the city to come to speed with other global cities of repute.
So far, I’m impressed.

Peter Obi is actually a decent politician. That’s how to play politics. You proffer solutions sometimes. It’s not to condemn , curse and be bitter all the time because you’re in opposition. At the end of the end, both incumbent and opposition once campaigned to tackle the same problems and bring joy to the people.
But from an outsiders perspective, Tinubu’s recent policies are very bold and futuristic. Not every politician will want to take such risks especially when you’re doing your first term and you may likely want to go for your second. It takes lots of guts.
If he only he can introduce these two additional policies to complement the current ones:
1) Compulsory Free Education policy/initiative for all school age kids (Primary 1 to SSS3) , and
2) Population control measures (To adjust the rapidly growing rate in population)

Trust me, give Nigeria 10-15 years.. The growth and development will be unrivaled.
I see a very bright light at the tunnel. The president, Governors and other state parastatals just need to be highly intentional about everything they’re doing on governance.
PoliticsRe: Concerns Over Growing Population Of Destitute In Oyo, Ogun by AMKAG66(m): 2:58pm On Dec 30, 2024
Oganigwe:
Concerns over growing population of destitute in Oyo, Ogun

By Seye Olumide, Ibadan
30 December 2024

There are mounting concerns over the increasing population of destitute and the threat they pose to the environment, especially in Oyo and Ogun states. Residents and motorists said it was high time governments of the Southern states had taken proactive steps to check their influx

Apart from the increasing number of destitute, residents lamented that their presence on road medians, carved out spaces in motor parks, junctions and roundabouts, in deviance to environmental laws, are worrisome.

Unfortunately, destitution has allegedly become a money-making venture across the South-West states, where thousands of people from the North and other neighbouring countries found their way through Kwara and or Kogi to Ogbomoso, Oyo, Ibadan, through to Ogere in Ogun State, and then to Kara, from where they dispersed to other parts of Lagos.

The Guardian gathered that some travelled in droves to the South-West without checks. An Ibadan resident, Kunle Adesola, said part of what also encourages them is that many unsuspecting Nigerians bring food items, used clothes, and other disposable materials to them” as a form of sacrifice to appease the gods”.

According to him, the majority of the children produced by these destitute are not given any form of education or vocational skills. “They rather continue in the begging ventures of their parents,” Adesola said. They are often found around Mokola Flyover in Ibadan, Ojoo, Challenge Bus Stop, and Akinyele in Ibadan.

But as of today, the destitute are fast spreading and stationing in other strategic places like Gbagi and Bodija,” he said. In Ogun State, commercial bus operators at Ogijo Terminal, under the Sagamu Local Government, yesterday lamented how the activities of these destitute are becoming an eyesore, adding that they have also converted the drainage behind them into their convenience.

According to a driver, Isiaka Mayowa, they dump their refuse, urinate, and also defecate inside the drainage. He said this is daily and “you can see how dirty the drainage is”.

He added that the government should find a means to regulate their activities, mainly how they affect the environment. One of the street sweepers, who works under contract with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Abike Nureni, said it wasn’t easy cleaning the Ikorodu Roundabout daily due to the nuisance generated by the destitute.

It was also learnt that the Oyo State government has routinely taken steps to address the issue of the ubiquitous destitute. Former Governor Abiola Ajimobi once resettled them at Akinyele, while the incumbent governor, Seyi Makinde, has taken several measures to address the menace but with little effect.

A trader at Mokola and another at Ojoo said: “We recall how often Task Force officials come to raid the destitute, but they keep returning to the spots.”
When contacted for comments, Oyo State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mojeed Mogbonjubola, stated that his ministry could not speak on the issue.

However, his Ogun State counterpart, Ola Oresanya, stated that the state government has always taken up the responsibility to provide convenience to the destitute.

He explained that since the laws in Nigeria do not discriminate against any citizen from whatever part of the country they came from, the Ogun State government takes the issue as a challenge. Oresanya also disclosed that his ministry liaised with leaders of the destitute communities across the state on ways to handle their conveniences.

Why can’t there be:
1) Population Control policies and actions for the country?
2) A National Free but Compulsory school education programs/initiatives for every child from Primary school to WAEC for the country? This what Sierra Leone is implementing now for the past 6 years and has increased the literacy rates of the country significantly within just just this short period of its introduction.

Why give birth to too many kids you cannot take care of ? Is that not already a sin by allowing them to become destitutes?
Honestly, someone needs to take the bill by the horn as a way of stoping a self regenerating problem jut like the Chinese did way back in the 70-80s and now look at where they are today.
Sometimes the most unpopular policies/interventions are the ones with the greatest impacts.

it means muslims and non-muslims can no longer talk casually anymore.

it means non-muslims who can empower and uplift muslims will stay clear of uplifting muslims which means more poverty amongst muslims.

it means non-muslim schools will not give muslims admissions anymore or will have muslims sign agreements before they are given admissions..

it means non-muslim financial co-operatives and unions will no longer offer help to muslims.. e.t.c..

millions Yoruba muslims already have it bad in the SW.. sh:ar:iah will make their situation worse and give an edge to non-Yoruba muslims in the same SW which they are indigenous to...

Go to the airport, aircrafts are still landing and taking off every 15 to 20 minutes. And most of those aircrafts are filled to capacities. Where do you think those passengers get money from?

When that useless meat factory is established, you will see endless queues of Nigerians around there to buy factory meat. If you go to shoprite, you will see processed foods like rice with price tags. People are still buying them.

So forget it, in this country, the more you look, the more confused you get.
As a foreigner residing in Nigeria, I honestly want to believe that two things are severely exaggerated :
1) The country’s population
2) The number of poor people (Living under 1 US dollar day) for a country like Nigeria that is so much urbanized.

The realities on ground doesn’t seemed to correlate.

There’re obviously poor people, there are lots of street beggars especially children and the aged ones. But trust me the two above stated statistics are just too overrated.

Abuja Gate is ok.
They just need to make it more bigger and taller like you have the Dubai Frame structure.
They can turn it to an actual entrance which can accommodate all the roads around its vicinity and also construct a mini recreational park and couple of national symbols in the form of statues around it.
This will give it a better appeal and an iconic National symbolism

It is not about the number of universities,it is about the quality and academic standard
So how many times has Times Higher Ranking ranked a Ghanaian university above its Nigerian counterpart because the last time I checked, this was something the Nigerians had an edge over Ghanaians and they were not making any fuss about it.
