Breaking news: Govt and FIFA set to release new roadmap on SLFA saga todad

World’s football governing body FIFA, and the Sierra Leone government are to redesign and release a new joint roadmap in a bid to resolve the ongoing impasse surrounding the country’s football.

Following a productive meeting in Zurich on Wednesday between Fifa and a high-powered Sierra Leone delegation led by the Vice President, a communiqué on the way forward is expected to be out today.

A source who attended the meeting in Zurich has confirmed to FootballSierraLeone.net that the expected communiqué will be the only legal document in resolving the football impasse in the country.

It’s still unclear whether the SLFA boss Isha Johnsen and Sec-gen Chris Kamara will be reinstated as stipulated by Fifa.

“The suspension will be lifted once the SLFA and its recognised leadership have confirmed to Fifa that the SLFA administration, premises, accounts and communication channels are under their control once again,” Fifa reiterated.

Fifa suspended Sierra Leone from international football two weeks ago because of alleged government interference in the running of the country’s football association.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) cancelled Sierra Leone 2019 Africa Cup of Nations doubleheader against Ghana due to the FIFA ban on the West African nation.

However, CAF did not state whether Ghana would be awarded a win for the suspended Kumasi qualifier that was slated for October 11 or if Sierra Leone will be allowed to continue in the qualifiers when they are reinstated by FIFA.

Just in: FIFA is to advise CAF to reschedule Sierra Leone’s matches against Ghana in the ongoing qualifiers for AFCON 2019 to be held in Cameroon, Vice President Dr Juldeh Jalloh has just told me. CAF canceled the fixtures due to the FIFA ban on the west African nation following the suspension of the FA President, Isha Johansen and General Secretary Chris Kamara. In a meeting in Zurich on Wednesday between the world football governing body and a high-level Sierra Leone delegation led by the Vice President, it was also agreed that the FIFA ban would be lifted at the end of the ongoing corruption trial against the FA President & General Secretary - whether or not the two are convicted. A FIFA fact-finding delegation will visit Freetown in early November to investigate outstanding allegations around match-fixing. Another delegation will follow to agree a roadmap with clear timelines leading to a long overdue congress where a new executive will be elected.

It's a clear case were a nation will have to select between chosing football or chosing to protect It's laws and sovereignty/demonstrates its commitment,determination and seriousness towards its fight against corruption.

Sierra Leone went for the latter.

Thank you very much Omar for those words of advice... As a fellow countryman ,we share similar experiences from that brutal war. I lost my dad at the age of one.He was brutally killed by the rebels.Never had the opportunity of conciously knowing him.That war never gave me the opportunity of knowing how a dad's love tastes.
I have observed so many times on this great forum Nigerians brewing paths of tribal war unnecessarily. Trust me ,that is the last thing you'll ever wish for on your Nation.We have about 19 ethnic groups and we are all living peaceably. It's only during National elections and politics when tribal identity becomes an issue.That's a tool politicians always want to exploit. Every tribe in Sierra Leone rallied against the then RUF rebels and their compatroits irrespective of our background.I personally think Nigeria is better when you are together, when all tribes and religion starts to see themselves as one entity,when every Nigerian realises they can't do without the guys in the North or the South.
War is a sweet poison,it kills slowly so please don't tow that path !
