Lastly, there must be greater transparency, accountability, and involvement in governance. Nepotism and corruption must give way to meritocracy and strategic planning. Governors must lead as CEOs of their states, not just political masters. The potential of the North is not in question. What is doubtful is whether we possess the will, leadership, and courage to unleash it. Agriculture, mining, and renewable energy are not merely sectors—these are economic lifelines. They are the tools by which the region can lift millions out of poverty, reduce dependence on federal allocations, and reemerge as an impact player in the future of Nigeria. It is time for Northern Nigeria to cast aside the cloak of dependency and rediscover its historic heritage as a thriving center of commerce, innovation, and resilience. The road to economic diversification will not be a piece of cake, but it has to be embarked on—and it begins with one bold step. |
Whether it is the vast iron ore deposits of Kogi, Plateau's columbite and tin, or Nasarawa's barite, Northern Nigeria sits on what could be Nigeria’s next economic revolution. But the mining sector is presently plagued by illegal operations, lack of regulation, environmental destruction, and insecurity. The beginning of developing this goldmine is to legalize the industry. Governments should also cooperate with federal governments in mineral reserve mapping throughout the country, issuing plain-cut mining licenses, and putting in place environmental as well as security regulations. Besides, artisanal miners need to be trained and registered in cooperatives where they will receive technical as well as financial support. Formalization will not only raise productivity but also ensure state revenue through taxes and royalties. Special economic zones for mineral processing—such as gemstone cutting and polishing, smelting, and refining—can also create jobs and retain value within the local economy. The North should learn from countries like Botswana, which built diamond mining into a viable national industry. Simply digging is not enough; we must also refine, process, and export at internationally competitive standards. Given its vast, desert-like expanses and abundance of sunlight, Northern Nigeria is particularly well-placed to become the country's center for renewable energy—most particularly, solar. Northern Nigeria already suffers from chronic lack of electricity access, and the majority of rural populations remain off-grid. This energy poverty severely restricts productivity, health, education, and standard of living. But the same challenge presents an enormous opportunity. Development in mini-grids and solar home systems in the North can not only light up houses and schools but also power irrigation pumps, agro-processing units, and small-scale industries. Pilot projects already installed in Jigawa, Katsina, and Kano have proven the potential of solar farms to transform communities. This is where scale matters. The state governments must work with the federal government, development partners, and private investors to remove regulatory barriers, provide subsidies for the deployment of solar power,, and stimulate local manufacturing of solar components to reduce costs. Solar business should be integrated into North vocational schools, where young individuals are taught installation, servicing, and production of solar products. This not only addresses the energy deficit but also confronts youth unemployment—yet a major determinant of insecurity. While these sectoral initiatives are critical, they will have little impact if the enabling environment is still not conducive. Security, first and foremost, has to be re-established. No investor, whether local or foreign, will venture investment where bandits roam freely, roads are insecure, and farms are burnt. The state governments must invest more vigorously in community policing, intelligence gathering, and support of the federal security infrastructure. Second, there must be built infrastructure. Farm-to-market roads, rail lines linking mining regions to industrial hubs, and virtual networks for e-education and e-enterprise—these are no longer luxuries. They are necessities of progress. Public-private initiatives can play a key role here, especially in Northern infrastructure renewal. Education must also be overhauled. If Northern Nigeria is to diversify, its people must diversify their skill set. Religious education are necessary, but these must be complemented by science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and vocational training. A youth population that is unemployable and illiterate will be vulnerable to manipulation and violence. |
Farming, Mining, and the Future: Northern Nigeria’s Economic Revival (https://dailytrust.com/farming-mining-the-future-of-northern-nigerias-economic-revival/) By Halimah Nuhu Sanda For decades, the narrative surrounding Northern Nigeria has been one of poverty, insecurity, and underdevelopment. But beneath the dust of hardship lies a land rich in potential—waiting, even begging, for good leadership, private sector innovation, and community-driven initiatives to unlock it. If the economic salvation of Nigeria rests on diversification, then Northern Nigeria should not be regarded as a liability but an untapped economic frontier. Agriculture, mining, and renewable energy are three areas that can turn the fortunes of the region around and make it a pillar of national prosperity. Agriculture has been the pulsating heart of Northern Nigeria. From the millet farms of Borno to the rice farms of Kebbi and the tomato clusters in Kano, the region is already Nigeria's bread basket. However, this potential for agriculture remains largely untapped due to outmodedmethods, inadequate infrastructure, and limited access to markets and finance. If we are serious about diversification, our first task must be the shift from subsistence agriculture to a well-planned agribusiness approach. We also have to remember where we were before. The famous groundnut pyramids of Kano, those towering symbols of agric prosperity, were symbols of pride of Northern Northern ingenuity and economic output. The pyramids were not just structures—they were statements. They breathed a story of a nation-nourishing zone, peasants who built landmarks from the fruit of their labor, and the time when Northern Nigeria was a net exporter of foods. Today, such pyramids exist only in pictures and memory. But they must serve as a call to action. We must rebuild those pyramids—not just physically, but economically—by reviving the groundnut value chain and other cash crops through strategic investments, research, and incentives to farmers. Imagine a Northern Nigeria where our pyramids once again spring to life,, not as relics, but as thriving processing mills, warehouses, and agro-industrial parks. To achieve this, state governments must invest in mass mechanization programs and training for farmers. This means working with private sector players and foreign development partners to provide access to tractors, irrigation machinery, quality seeds, and fertilizers. Value chain development is also urgently required. Tomatoes should not rot in lorries while factories are bringing in paste from China. Onions, groundnuts, sesame, sorghum—these should be processed locally into products for local consumption and export. The Lagos-Kebbi rice partnership model within the LAKE Rice scheme is proof of the possibility of working together when political will and economic strategy align. Such models need to be replicated and scaled up by northern states. Cooperative societies must be encouraged among farmers for bargaining power augmentation and ease in accessing funds. Government-backed agro-funds, have the potential to inject the amount of capital to propel farming beyond the hoe and cutlass. Whereas the South has the privilege of controlling Nigeria's oil reserves, the North is teeming with solid minerals which are largely unexploited. From copper in Kano, gold in Zamfara and Niger, lithium in Kaduna, gypsum in Bauchi, Borno and Gombe, barite in Taraba, limestone in Sokoto, to talc in Yobe, Northern Nigeria is blessed with a treasure of diversified minerals resources that, if fully exploited, can drive immense industrialization and economic growth. |
It is greed and avarice not ignorance per say that's driving Nigerians into ponzi schemes, I remember warning some of my colleagues who were better off financially than me about one scheme last year or so- one of them she know it will crash definitely but she wants to cash out before the crash. I told her to invest in me at least she's sure of seeing me if anything were to happen to her investment unlike the guys behind the scheme. |

🌌 The Origin of the Universe: Why the ‘No-Cause’ Argument Is Absurd 🧠 Let’s be real for a moment. We live in a universe of unimaginable complexity: — Perfectly balanced physical laws — Precise constants that allow life to exist — Galaxies, stars, planets, oceans, DNA, consciousness, beauty, love, intelligence… And yet, somehow, there are people who still claim: 💬 “The universe just came into existence… with no cause.” ❌ No Creator. ❌ No purpose. ❌ No will. ❌ No intention. Just a magical explosion of nothing... from nothing… for nothing. That’s not intelligence. That’s intellectual surrender wrapped in fancy words. Even a child knows: 📦 A box doesn’t open itself. 🕰 A watch doesn’t design itself. 🏠 A house doesn’t build itself. 🚗 A car doesn’t assemble itself. So how can a universe — far more complex than all of these — create itself from absolute non-existence? 🧠 This is not “science.” This is blind faith in chaos. Even atheist scholars struggle with this absurdity: 🗣 Richard Dawkins admitted: “Of course it's counter-intuitive that you can get something from nothing.” 🗣 Peter Atkins, a physicist, proposed: “The universe is just a spontaneous quantum fluctuation.” ⚠️ Translation: “We don’t know. So… maybe it just popped into existence.” But Allah says — in one clear, cutting verse: “Were they created by nothing? Or were they the creators of themselves?” — [Qur’an 52:35] 💥 One verse. One question. Enough to shake the entire foundation of atheism. No — the universe did not appear without a cause. And you were not created without purpose. There is a Creator — All-Knowing, All-Wise, All-Powerful. His Name is Allah. And He created you to recognize Him, love Him, and worship Him. 🕊 Islam doesn’t insult your intelligence — it awakens it. Islam doesn’t ask you to believe in fantasy — it calls you to the Truth. So if your heart is still searching… Don’t fall for the lie that nothingness gave birth to everything. That’s not science — it’s spiritual blindness. ☝️ Everything that begins to exist has a cause. The universe began to exist. Therefore — it has a Cause. And that Cause… is not “nothing.” That Cause… is Allah.

Governor Ododo Unveils Mining Equipment as Kogi Secures 15 Mining Licenses Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has officially unveiled the state’s new mining equipment as he announced the acquisition of fifteen mining license by the government. Governor Ododo made the announcement during the official unveiling of the state's new mining equipment at the Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja on Friday. He said the unveiling of the equipment and acquisition of licenses will officially launch Kogi into the league of states taking advantage of solid minerals development, and marked the beginning of a new phase in the state's economic transformation. The Governor assured that the 15 mining licenses will boost the state's solid minerals development sector. Ododo also noted that Kogi State is blessed with vast mineral deposits, including gold, lithium, limestone, coal among over 30 other solid minerals in commercial quantities which remain largely untapped. “This is a strategic move to harness our natural resources and reduce our reliance on federal allocations. The 15 licenses secured will allow Kogi to begin large-scale exploration and mining, ensuring sustainable economic growth,” the Governor stated. He further emphasized that the state is committed to creating job opportunities and improving the livelihoods of its people through mining, noting that the equipment will facilitate the efficient extraction of resources. The Governor reaffirmed that Kogi State is poised to become a key player in Nigeria’s mining industry, adding that the state is committed to tapping into the full potential of its natural resources and has chosen to shape its own future through the mining initiative to boost internally generated revenue rather than relying on federal allocations. “We are ready to harness the full potential of our natural resources. Kogi will no longer wait for federal allocations but will take its future into its own hands through this mining initiative,” he added. In his remarks, the commissioner for Solid Mineral and Natural Resources, Engr. Bashiru Gegu, shared the state's vision for the mining sector, describing it as a key revenue-generating sector. He outlined the need for robust policies, equipment, and mining licenses to effectively tap into the solid minerals development sector. “Being a major player in the mining sector requires equipment, laws, and policies. We are prepared to meet these requirements," he stated. The Commissioner confirmed that the Kogi State government, through the Kogi State Solid Mineral Processing Company Limited had already secured 15 mining licenses, a step he noted will allow the state to begin solid mineral exploration immediately. I don't have a dog in this fight but saying Edo women aren't beautiful is like saying, sun doesn't shine in the Sahara Desert. Also, a lot is happening in Kwara we tend to conflate lowcost of living with lack of economic activities. Kwara is a border state and a lot of business activities are taking place, the conservative nature of the people makes it look nothing is happening on the economic front. |

The tie is far from being over Arteta and his, boys shouldn't go to Bernabeu and start defending from the get go else they will get destroyed by a wounded Madrid side that will want to prove a point in front of their, home crowd. Arsenal should take the game to Madrid by imposing themselves and avoid unnecessary bookings early on, they mustn't allow the Bernabeu crowd to intimidate them into committing silly mistakes that will sway the tie in Madrid's favour |
