PoliticsRe: We’ll Move Obidient Structure To APC — Balami Vows by Amumaigwe: 1:25pm On Mar 29
Segunbabba:
A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and youth leader, Comrade Isaac Balami, has announced plans to collapse and move over 70 per cent of the “Obidient” structure into the party while congratulating the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and President Bola Tinubu on what he described as a “highly successful and unifying” national convention.

Balami, who previously served as Deputy Campaign Manager for the Obi/Datti presidential ticket under the Labour Party, said his decision was driven by what he described as a “clear conviction” in the leadership direction of the party and the current administration.

In a statement he personally signed, Balami also hailed Yilwatda’s re-election, noting that his emergence through a consensus arrangement at the APC’s 8th National Convention reflects growing unity and internal stability within the ruling party.

The APC chieftain, in a strongly worded declaration, announced plans to collapse and move over 70 per cent of the “Obidient” structure into the APC.

According to him, the move is part of a broader political realignment aimed at consolidating youth support and strengthening grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He further argued that the current government has, for the first time, provided a sense of inclusion for minority ethnic nationalities in the Middle Belt, cutting across both Muslim and Christian communities.

He stressed that future presidential hopefuls must prioritise inclusiveness, particularly for historically marginalised regions, if they hope to gain broad national acceptance.

Balami also called on members of the Obidient movement who may be hesitant about joining the APC due to public perception to take what he described as a “bold and realistic step,” insisting that political relevance must be tied to viable structures.

Here he goes again with another dubious claim. Aba footwear surpassing Nigeria’s oil revenue? If that were true, what is stopping them from fully pursuing such a lucrative venture?

This fraud needs to learn to distinguish between fantasy and reality, because Nigerians are far more concerned with facts than with superficial claims that can convince a baby goat.
China's leather work Export in 2025 was $32.8 billion, France $13.1billion , Italy $12.3 billion.

On the other hand, total Nigeria's oil export in 2024 is $32.91 billion.

INTRODUCTION OF CONSTITUTIONAL AND OTHER MAJOR CHANGES IN NIGERIAN POLITICS

*He was the first gubernatorial candidate in Nigeria to legally challenge to its logical conclusion, his governorship electoral victory that was denied him. He won in the Courts and reclaimed his mandate.

*He was the first Governor in Nigeria to legally challenge his wrongful impeachment and was reinstated by the Courts.

*He was the first Governor in Nigeria to seek the interpretation of tenures of Governors when INEC allowed elections to take place in Anambra State when his tenure had not expired; the election already concluded was cancelled and he was allowed to complete his tenure.

*He was the first Governor to serve a 2nd term in both the new and old Anambra State, that is, almost 40 years after creation of the State.

*He was the first Governor, whilst still in Office, to be appointed a Special Adviser to the President.

*He was the first serving Governor to be appointed into the Presidential Economic Management Team.

*He was among the first Governors to be honoured with a National Award in 2011, while still in office.

*Though the only Governor whose political party was in government in only one State, he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum twice.

*Though the only non-PDP Governor in the South-East (made up of 5 States), he was elected by the other 4 PDP Governors as their Chairman for 8 years rather than the usual one year.

FUNDAMENTAL ACHIEVEMENTS AS GOVERNOR OF ANAMBRA STATE (PARTIAL LISTING)

1. Anambra was the first State to commence Sub-Sovereign Wealth savings, the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa. At a time many other Governors were leaving huge debts, I left the equivalent of $500 million Dollars in investment as well as local and foreign currency, including $156 million in Dollar-denominated bonds.

2. For the first time in the history of Anambra State, Ambassadors and High Commissioners of notable countries such as United Stated, Britain, Russia, European Union, South Africa, Belgium, Israel, the Netherlands, Canada, among others, visited the State. Before my tenure, Anambra was practically a pariah state blacklisted by the Diplomatic Corps and international development partners.

3. Development partners such as UNDP, UNICEF, the World Bank, DFID, the European Union etc., which hitherto were not in Anambra State started working with the State. Anambra was consistently adjudged one of the best states in development partnership and commitment to reforms for good governance.

4. He was recognised as Best Governor by the Millennium Development Goals Office (OSSAP-MDGs) and the UNDP in the implementation of their programmes in Nigeria.

5. The Nigerian Debt Management Office (DMO) rated Anambra as the least indebted state in Nigeria. In spite of visible and measurable achievements recorded in various sectors, the State under him did not borrow or raise bonds for her various projects.

6. The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria rated Anambra State as the most financially stable state in the country.

7. The State's ground-breaking return of schools to their original owners - Voluntary Agencies (Churches) on 1st January 2009, and subsequent partnership with the Agencies in Education, saw the State move from 24th position out of 36 States to Number One in National Examination Council (NECO) and West African Examination Council (WAEC) examinations for three consecutive years. This made the World Bank to commission a study, led by the renowned Prof. Paul Collier of Oxford University, on this revolutionary partnership and phenomenal achievement.

8. The State also entered into strategic partnership with the Churches in the Health sector. This symbiotic relationship resulted in a tremendous boost to health care because of the services offered by health institutions owned by Voluntary Agencies, while the State restored grants to the agencies and made available to them more than 50 million Dollars in various types of support.

10. Through partnership with the Church in the Health sector, his Government funded the transformation of -:

a: Iyienu Hospital, Ogidi;
b: Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala;
c: St Charles Borromeo Hospital, Onitsha;
d: Holy Rosary Hospital, Waterside, Onitsha; and
e: St. Joseph Hospital, Adazi-Nnukwu.
His Government also built the Joseph Nwilo Heart Centre in St. Joseph, Adazi-Nnukwu, where heart operations are now being performed.

11. His Government won the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (1 Million dollars) as the best-performing state in immunisation in the South-East. With complementary funding from our Government, they used the money to build 10 Maternal and Child Care Centres across the State, particularly in rural communities, in partnership with the Churches.

12. The State was the first to procure and distribute more than 30,000 computers to secondary schools, including 22,500 from HP. The Managing Director for Personal Systems Group HP Inc, Mr. FabriceCampoy described the deployment as the biggest of such projects in the Middle-East and Africa.

13. Anambra State Government provided Microsoft Academies to more than 500 secondary schools, which the Head of Microsoft in Nigeria (Mr. Ken Span) described as the biggest such deployment in Africa so far.

14. The State provided Internet access to more than 500 secondary schools, which the CEO of Galaxy Backbone (Mr. Gerald Ilukwe) characterized as incomparable to any in the country.

15. More than 700 buses were provided to secondary schools in the State by our Government.

16. Boreholes were provided in schools all over the State.

17. Numerous classrooms were built in all the 177 communities of the State.

18 As part of the efforts to turn around the economy of the State, a number of companies were attracted to build their facilities in the Anambra State. A case in point is SABMiller, the 2nd largest brewery in the world, which built their first Green Field facility in the State, which is today one of the most successful facilities they operate globally.

19. A number of other companies followed the SABMiller initiative and were all supported and encouraged under our Government; a good example is INNOSON Motor Manufacturing Company, from which our government bought more than 1,000 vehicles.

20. Anambra State for the first time started close collaboration with recognized government security agencies (the Police, Army, Navy, Department of State Security, Civil Defence, among others), offering them various types of support including provision of more than 500 security vehicles. The improvement in security was phenomenal, such that the former IG of Police (Abubakar Mohammed) lauded Anambra State for not witnessing any bank robbery in my last three years in office.

21. To further enhance security, Anambra State provided at least one security vehicle to each of all the 177 communities in the State as well as various organizations such as markets and Churches.

22. His Administration conceived and built, from scratch, the first state-owned Teaching Hospital, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu teaching Hospital, Awka.

23. His Government commenced the planned development of the Igbariam Campus of the ChukwuemekaOdumegwu-Ojukwu University, including the fencing, construction of internal roads, electrification, construction of the Faculty of Law, Auditorium, Administrative Block, Faculty of Agriculture, Management Building, among others).

24. His Government attracted the World Bank support on erosion - National Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) - to Anambra State.

25. His Government was the first to do Poverty Mapping in Nigeria, as a guide for the effective implementation of our poverty-alleviation strategies.

26 His Government, for the first time, undertook the aerial mapping of Awka as well as the production of Structure Plans for Awka Capital Territory, Onitsha and Nnewi.

27. During his tenure and with his Government's support, Anambra State became an oil producing State.

28. He built the first Secretariat Complex to house State Government Ministries that were hitherto scattered around the State.

29. His government commenced the development of the 'Three Arms Zone' comprising Government House/Governor’s Lodge, Legislative Building/Speakers Residence, and Judiciary Building with Chief Judge’s Residence.

30. By the end of his tenure in 2014, more than twelve (12) health institutions, including two hospitals, had secured accreditation; when we took off in 2006, no health institution in Anambra State was duly accredited.

31. Anambra State was the first to undergo national peer review, which scrutinised State Governments for good governance, through the State Peer Review Mechanism (SPRM), an initiative of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum in collaboration with the DFID.

PoliticsRe: Much Ado About Peter Gregory Obi By Tony Ademiluyi by Amumaigwe: 11:45am On Mar 25
OverCalculating:
Much Ado About Peter Gregory Obi by Tony Ademiluyi

Some political analysts described Peter Obi as the third force in 2023 at the height of the Obidient movement. How did he take a hitherto obscure Labour party and make it into a dominant opposition party and even defeating the eventual winner, Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos State?

Some of his die-hard supporters alluded to his charisma; others said he had revolutionary ideas which would take Nigeria into the eldorado.

However, I firmly believe that charity believes at home. He came to national prominence in 2006 as the first politician to win gubernatorial elections at the courts and there was much expectation from his supporters to optimally perform.

What really did Peter Obi do as the Anambra State Governor? Despite the huge allocation and decent internally generated revenues at his disposal, he didn’t build more public schools in spite of the fact that public education was at an all time low in the state. While it is true that he embarked on road construction, the roads quickly degraded alluding to the fact that sub standard materials were used for them. Then there was a glaring conflict of interest in his use of public funds as there was a public-private partnership with SAB Miller where his family had some equity in the deal which in decent climes amounts to a criminal offence.

He had an utter disregard for local government administration and only allowed elections there in January 2014 on the eve of his departure from office. Heavy taxes were imposed on small scale traders with some of his alleged anti-people policies.

Civil servants and pensioners suffered as there were allegations of unpaid salaries and pensions which was said to exacerbate the hunger in the state.

He single-handedly installed his puppet, Willie Obiano as his successor simply because he was an Executive Director in Fidelity Bank – a bank in which he had substantial interest in. He allegedly tried to play the role of a political godfather which led to a public falling out.

In an investigative journalistic report by Premium Times, he was involved in the infamous Pandora Papers which he denied any involvement though the evidence against him was extremely damning.

I question his leadership credentials as he is yet to raise worthy successors after more than two decades in politics. How many of his minions have risen to the acme in their political careers? It is still about him since 2003 – how tragic as he has no defined political structure.

Is he really a man of his word? He swore to the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu that he will never leave the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He not only left APGA, but went on to move to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and now the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Why can’t he stay in one party and build it from scratch rather than being a political LovePeddler? The so called obidient movement that he hurriedly cobbled together has since crumbled since his cowardly defection to the ADC. He even said recently that he isn’t even sure of getting the ADC ticket. What then happens if the ticket eludes him? Will he defect again? His knowledge on national and global issues like climate change, global finance, terrorism, diplomacy is extremely shallow a pointer to his not being a team builder who could give him advice. He is nothing short of a rabble rouser who appeals to emotions rather than reason. Why couldn’t his public support for the ADC translate into electoral victory in his native Anambra State in the last elections?

I hate to be the bearer of unsavoury news – Obi is nothing short of a well packaged scam who will completely expire in 2027.

Over to you time!

10. Through partnership with the Church in the Health sector, his Government funded the transformation of -:

a: Iyienu Hospital, Ogidi;
b: Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala;
c: St Charles Borromeo Hospital, Onitsha;
d: Holy Rosary Hospital, Waterside, Onitsha; and

But before he became their presidential candidate, was obi's name in LPs register (as recognized by INEC)?

Was Abba Yusuf's name in the NNPP's register before he also became a governorship candidate?

These should be the most important questions here.
There is no INEC law that stipulates how a party chooses their presidential candidates. Every party is guided by their rules and INEC upholds that.

Lmao, you should stick to arguing against the point he made instead of attacking his personality. The 2022 electoral act was very clear about the mandatory requirement of all political parties to submit their membership register to INEC 30 days before the election. I can bet if Tinubu had moved to another party after the submission of the party’s register, you would have argued that he’s not qualified to contest since his name is not in the party’s register.

So, let’s always be dispassionate and less emotional when taking position on matters like this. We should stop standing law on its head because it’s convenient at a particular time.
Did Obi contest the PDP 2022 presidential primary? The old man is already battling dementia and is bent on embarrassing himself rather than enjoying his old age in quietude as a sign of remorse for the damage he inflicted on the same Judiciary he is now pretending to love.
The best you guys should do is to put him on appropriate therapy to manage his degenerating memory rather than setting him up for further infamy.

You Can’t Silence Accountability — APC Fires Back at Otti’s Intimidation Tactics

The All Progressives Congress in Abia state has noticed a disturbing pattern in Abia State, the moment you demand accountability, you are immediately targeted, bullied, and insulted by agents of Governor Alex Otti. The Governor appears deeply uncomfortable with scrutiny and quick to deploy his attack machinery against anyone who dares to question the high level fraud, lack of transparency and misgovernance being experienced in the state.

Unfortunately, no one is spared from this coordinated onslaught, not even those who assisted him to power.

Recently, Governor Otti’s agents were all over the media space attacking and insulting Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a man whom the Governor himself once openly eulogized. It therefore came as no surprise when these same attack bingos were unleashed on the APC State Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, for daring to expose the glaring mismanagement of the state and its resources under the current administration.

What clearer definition of mismanagement exists than the present reality in Abia State where the state reportedly earns an average of ₦60 billion monthly, yet citizens are struggling to survive?

It is both ironic and alarming to hear the government’s spokesman claim that “Abia was the first state to pay the new minimum wage,” what an audacious liar, it is common knowledge that this administration has elevated propaganda to a governance tool, More troubling is a government that not only tells lies but appears to believe their own lies.

To date, the Abia State Government has yet to fully implement the federally approved minimum wage. We remain in constant touch with civil servants, and records clearly show that Abia workers are among the poorest paid in the Southeast and indeed among the lowest paid nationwide. For instance, while a Grade Level 7 officer in Imo State earns about ₦145,000, their counterpart in Abia earns between ₦80,000-₦90,000. What better definition of wickedness and insensitivity to citizens’ welfare?

It is also public knowledge that local governments in Abia receive between ₦450 million and ₦600 million monthly. Yet, not a single local government can point to a project worth ₦50 million in the past two years they have been in office. This raises serious concerns about the diversion of funds meant for grassroots development.

While funds meant for the development of local governments are being stolen, Signature Bank has reportedly surpassed the ₦50 billion recapitalization threshold, emerging as one of the fastest growing banks in Nigeria despite having no visible customer base beyond the Abia State Government. The implications are deeply troubling to any discerning mind.

Governor Otti came to power promising transparency and accountability. Today, however, contracts worth billions are allegedly awarded to associates and cronies from his Umuehim Nvosi residence without due process or the involvement of the appropriate government agencies, as required by law.

The truth remains that no extraordinary development is happening in Abia State as people are being deceived to believe when compared to the massive allocations being released to subnationals by the APC led Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. These increased revenues have enabled many states to improve workers’ welfare and meet their obligations. Yet, in Abia under the Labour Party, some workers still earn as low as ₦30,000 to ₦50,000 monthly. This is unacceptable.

As a responsible opposition, we cannot sit idly-by while retirees are being forced to forfeit their entitlements, civil servants are subjected to hardship and poor welfare conditions, and the state continues to underperform despite enormous financial inflows while engaging the media and skit makers to project lies and falsehood as against reality.

Why is Governor Otti withholding the truth from his appointees, or are they deliberately choosing to live in denial? Has the Governor forgotten that his emergence was largely a product of political conspiracy from aggrieved PDP and APC chieftains who worked against their parties out of anger to give him the victory he enjoys alone today, and not from popular votes? Or has he become so power drunk that to have forgotten so quickly?

Governor Otti and his attack bingos should know that the APC will not be intimidated or silenced. The demand for transparency and accountability is non-negotiable.

Hon. Chijioke Chukwu is not a chairman who can be bullied into submission. He remains resolute in his mission to lead the party to victory and liberate Abia State from the shackles of a fraudulent and failing administration.

Gov. Alex Chioma Otti, while you are still struggling for a platform let me make it abundantly clear that Under the leadership of Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, the APC will reclaim Abia state, starting to from the 3 senatorial seats, 8 House of Representative Seats, 24 House of Assembly Seats and take over the Government House in 2027.

PoliticsRe: ₦1.6 Trillion Later: Is Street Sweeping The Only Legacy Of Alex Otti? by Amumaigwe: 5:07pm On Mar 22
odoemelamemmanu:
₦1.6 Trillion Later: Is Street Sweeping the Only Legacy of Alex Otti?

The widely celebrated cleanliness of Aba is increasingly being presented as a major achievement of a government that has reportedly received about ₦1.6 trillion in just 33 months. While sanitation is undeniably important, it raises a critical question. Should neatness alone define the success of an administration with such significant financial inflows?

In recent times, many people have grown uneasy with the narrative that places Aba’s improved sanitation at the center of government performance. Cleanliness is important. It reflects a level of order, civic awareness, and urban management. But it becomes troubling when it is elevated as the main achievement of a government that was entrusted with delivering broad and meaningful development.

A second-time visitor to any truly progressing city should notice more than clean streets. Beyond sanitation, there should be clear signs of transformation. New road networks, functioning industrial zones, agro-processing hubs, and well-planned residential areas should be visible. These are the real indicators of growth and long-term economic strength.

Today, however, many repeat visitors to Abia speak mostly about how clean Aba looks. That reality seems to support the concerns raised by dissenting voices that little has fundamentally changed despite the huge revenues received by the state. If the most visible outcome remains refuse collection and disposal, then it is fair to ask deeper questions about priorities and how resources are being used.

This pattern reflects a wider national issue where routine responsibilities are sometimes celebrated as major achievements. Under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for example, reforms like fuel subsidy removal and the floating of the naira increased government revenues significantly. But, increased revenue also comes with higher expectations for accountability and impact. It is on record that within the last quarter of 2025, (October to December) Abia got a total revenue of 60 billion monthly .

It is therefore difficult to understand why a state receiving tens of billions monthly would highlight basic sanitation as a flagship achievement. Reports suggest that only a fraction of these funds goes into salaries and pensions, leaving a large balance whose impact is not clearly visible in transformative development.

There is also concern that past failures are being used to make current efforts look bigger than they really are. Agencies like the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency struggled in the past, and while improvements today should be acknowledged, they should not overshadow the broader expectations of the people.

Most people believe that much of what is visible today is cosmetic. Repairs of existing roads, repainting, and decorative additions may improve appearance, but they do not amount to deep structural change. Anyone visiting Aba or Umuahia should be able to point to major infrastructural developments comparable to what is happening in other fast-growing states.

Another issue is sustainability. Waste management in Abia still relies largely on the traditional method of collecting refuse and dumping it in open sites across the state. Without modern systems like recycling plants, engineered landfills, or waste-to-energy facilities, the long-term benefits of this approach remain limited.

Infrastructure also plays a major role in sanitation. Good roads make waste evacuation easier and more efficient. When you consider how bad some major routes once were, including the corridor linking parts of Abia to Rivers State, it becomes clear that infrastructure directly affects how clean a city can be.

There are also concerns about capacity. Much of the equipment and workforce currently in use were inherited from previous administrations. Many of the trucks break down frequently, sometimes causing traffic problems. At the same time, sanitation workers are said to earn as little as ₦23,000 monthly, raising serious questions about welfare and motivation.

In contrast, states like Enugu State have reportedly invested in newer waste management systems, including modern compactors, more collection points, and better pay for workers. These kinds of investments not only improve efficiency but also give dignity to those doing the work.

There is no doubt that the improved cleanliness of Aba and parts of Abia deserves recognition. But it should not be overstated as the defining achievement of a government that has received such vast resources. Real development must go beyond appearance. It must touch key sectors like agriculture, trade, industry, education, healthcare, and tourism.

People are still asking important questions. What new industries have been established since May 2023? How many jobs have been created? What structural changes can truly transform the state’s economy?

Cleanliness is important and even admirable. But it cannot stand alone. For it to have meaning, it must be supported by real growth, strong institutions, and visible development. Without these, neat streets may look good, but they cannot build prosperity or secure the future of Abia State.
