Geezeem: This argument is like the type people had here last week.... that saying someone is stupid and that someone is doing something stupid are different things
Or that someone is a fool or doing foolish things are distinct
What you guys are suggesting here is bothering on someone mental health... narcissistic traits is a mental health concern
I won't dabble into this
There are a dozen ways to explain Sheggz character traits on this show....narcissism doesn't have to make that list unless diagnosed by a professional
I just think he does what he does because he could get away with it
Bella is not a softie as you are painting here... I watched their fight and saw her strength for a second... she even threatened to walk out on him at a point
If Bella had a close female friend in that house, the person would have helped her to see the links she is missing
After that fight, she was agitated enough to go outside the garden and started singing igbo Christian songs... that was when I gave up on sheggz
She is not clueless on what is going on... that environment being a controlled one is not helping her at all Dear, if I say Sheggs is a narcissist after just one week observing him and even before all these started playing out, best believe that I know what I'm talking about. This Is a possibly a topic you're clearly not familiar with, so I'll leave it at that. I've never called any other HM that, even past HMs so that should count for something. Bella is far from strong. |

Geezeem: I won't diagnose him... I am not a professional in that regards
But I hate how he speaks to her sometimes tho... and I've said so here
Except you are a psychologist... you shouldn't be throwing the bolded around
I am looking forward to the ship sinking not outside but inside the house.... Bella is stubborn and strong willed....
I like that there ship isn't boring... there is always content to dish to us here
We watch! Nah. I might need to be a psychologist to say he has NPD (Narcissistic personality disorder) but even as a lay man, I could say he's a narcissist or have narcissistic traits. As much there's a personality disorder known as NPD which needs a clinical diagnosis, there's also a behavioural pattern known as narcissist. It's just like saying someone is a gossip or a glutton. On that relationship, as much as I wish that relationship will end in the house, i very much doubt that it would. She's a good supply ( narcissist lingo). Good supply are not that easy to find. Someone who doesn't know they're being manipulated and keep apologizing for everything like she does. |

She’s doing this to Khalid that she said he was so into her that he even read her Bible with her.

Pimpers: Madam explain to me how Hermes is fuçking up or leave his voyage in bigbother's house out of your concern and focus on your own fave.
Hermes is fuçking up, how? Because he's not winning HoH back to back. Or what exactly. People go into relationships for many reasons. There are academically inclined graduates with good grades in the real world slacking behind. In life, you simply cannot win all the time. I cannot understand how you'd attribute coming 2nd,3rd ,4th in any individual task as "fúçking up". In group tasks people can still see his individual input, the energy and zeal to win even though paired with lackeys,he tries to carry the team.
Focus on your fave who has a behavioural problem, or do you think Adekunle is a perfect man, he simply cannot keep a healthy relationship that can lead to something romantic, whether he's interested or not, we are not interested in what he wants, what we can see is his incompleteness. Or do you think matters of the heart isn't a vital part in a man's life. The insecurity, the low self esteem and passive aggression, the personality blandness, the fear to express his emotions he lets out are all indicative of lilly-liveredness and poor social behavioural relationship with both men and especially women. He quarrels like clockwork, easily agigitated due to a lack in certain aspect of his life, or the need to fill a void. Or do you think this BBN project is solely to showcase one's oratory skill, what about your social interactions with both genders.
Dont pan the light of criticism on Hermes' recent short-lack of wins, he'll still win. Focus on other males and females who haven't exuded much expected gusto in winning anything at all. To me, Hermes is fine. This! |

LordTheus: The math has been done. However, If you're going to hinge your arguments on the Instagram followership of housemates, then I should probably bring to your attention that Cameron Cole, the winner of the latest Big Brother UK 19 (2018) has only 26.3k followers on Instagram. The previous winner of BBUK 18 (2017), Isabelle Warburton has just 80.5k followers.
If we should compare and contrast from the BBUS winners of the same years, we'll find that the 2017 winner of BBUS Josh Martinez has 231k followers on Instagram. The 2018 winner Kaycee Clark has 493k on the same app. Picture 1: 2018 BBUK winner Instagram Picture 2: 2018 BBUS winner Instagram
In light of this, let's examine the next few statements in your post...
The Nigerian version of the series adopted the European voting system, which was popularized by Big Brother UK.
Now, if truly, as you claim, viewer participation is the sole causal factor behind Big Brother Housemate followership, then how come Big Brother celebrities from America and Canada happen to be more popular and/or have more followers than their British counterparts? Remember, the UK version of BB allows audience to fully decide, via voting, who stays and who goes. Therefore, there is complete viewer participation.
** This is only semantics but I just thought I should remind you that by Western TV series, I'm talking of both American and the UK.
Your argument would have been more compelling if your claim that there is a causal relationship between viewer participation and housemate followership were true, but as shown above, the connection doesn't exist.
The reason BB isn't as big in the western world as it is here is simply because of the plethora of other reality shows available with equal or higher popularity. Big Brother in the western world is just a run of the mill. Compare it to The Kardashians for example. In Nigeria, Big Brother has complete domination over the reality TV world.
I don't agree with this assertion. In fact, I find it a little bit spurious. The American BB version is objectively far more entertaining and engaging in terms of the strategy and alliances and manipulation that is exhibited. The gameplay format also influenced other competitions like Survivor, The Challenge etc.
If you were making the argument that BBUS is amoral and apathetic towards housemates' integrity and moral values, that's a different argument. But the truth is BBUS embodies the social, psychological nuances of the series' source material, 1984 by George Orwell. And it embodies it far better than the British or African versions ever could. The psychological manipulation, power control, the intentional distortion of previous events that happened, the use of rhetoric, betrayal etc.
I can argue that all of these makes for more compelling and dramatic reality TV that keeps viewers invested. Ultimately, it comes down to preference. You can't just assume that nobody has any emotional investment to BBUS because there is no audience participation.... Oh wait there actually is because the audience still get to vote for their favorite housemate at the end of the series and the highest voted is announced on the same night of the real winner. So....
I agree with you here. The twists this year have been bland and/or careless. The organizers need to do better. The housemate voting twist was handled better in Big Brother Lockdown. You should know that things are not generally black or white. Their are several variables that come into play that lends credence to present realities. Now to your question on why the UK BB winners do not have great social media followings since they use the same voting pattern as us here in Naija. First, you can't compare UK population to Naija population. secondly, it isn't just Nigerians invested in BBN, the entire continent is also invested. The US population at 300m+ is closer to Naija in population and so can be be rightly compared to each other when it has to do with the social media followings of both alumnis. If the BBUS winners of the last 5 years haven't crossed the 500k followers mark despite the fact that some have become regulars on the Challenge, then I think emotional investment on BBN by the viewers is a contributing factor to why our BB Alumnis here have a higher followership in comparison to their western counterpart. On that note, I do agree with some of the points you raised. While i think the voting pattern in the US is a factor contributing to the low fanbase/followership, I also think it isn't restricted to that alone. Like you rightly said, several reality tv show options and I might add several streaming services (all on monthly subscriptions) automatically reduce the viewership. Here, we just have DSTV/GOTV used by a sizable number of the continent of Africa. So yeah, more viewership. More viewership translates to more social followership. Also, the live feed which we enjoy on DSTV at no extra cost. attracts an additional cost to subscribers. So a lot people just end up watching the daily episodes. They might enjoy the show as a whole, but they might end up not being fanatics like you're prone to see here in naija. Lordtheus please don't reply with another epistle. you're right. YOU WIN! I have headache. Thanks. |

godspeed: Well, something seems off to me about this Amaka's "eviction" and I sincerely believe Biggie has something up his sleeves.
Some things just don't jive about this "eviction".
1. Biggie doesn't announce evictions from the house, Ebuka does.
2. She was tied with Doyin on 6 nominations so what was the tie breaker? Some have suggested that Deji's nomination was invalid cuz he is fake, which leads me to...
3. Why allow fake housemates to nominate when you know his votes will be invalid? Granted , Biggie might invite him to the diary room so other housemates will not suspect a thing, but once inside, he doesn't have to.
4. Biggie always demand reasons why a particular housemate is nominating another housemate, this didn't happen yesterday and even had to cut Hermes short when he was trying to give reasons.
Sunday is almost upon us so we'll know more but I think i know what will happen. The highlighted is what i've pondered on. Biggie could have called Deji to the diary room to give the illusion that he was going to actually nominate someone but then after some moments ask him to leave. For Biggie to actually ask Deji to nominate in the first place meant that production definitely wanted to pull a fast one. And also the HMs nominating Deji too? What if the whole votes had gone to the fakeHM and riders? How would Biggie have handled that outcome? Deji should have been removed alongside Modella on Sunday. Why is he even still in the house. Not like he had any content or good storyline. All i've said aside, I truly believe Amaka is gone. She's been officially removed from DSTV APPs and online platforms. |

No one should underrate BBnaija o.
I remember in The Challenge Spies, Lies and Allies. The most recent that had Tacha and Esther. The other contestants ( made up of strong reality TV stars from all over the world) were in awe of Tacha for her Instagram following. Even the then BBUS winner Josh who was having a thing with Esther kept asking her "you mean you have that much followers?" The thing shock am.
When it comes to BBnaija fanbase, not one country in the WHOLE WORLD comes close to us. |
TV/Movies › Re: BBNaija 2022 Live Updates Thread by Amya(f): 6:28am On Aug 30, 2022 |
LordTheus: Considering the vast assortment of successful reality television shows that are insanely popular in the west, I believe the bolded statement should be put in a more proper context. Nigeria literally has no reality show that comes close to Big Brother in terms of viewership and fanbase. The Voice and Nigerian Idol don't generate as much buzz. In America, Big Brother is far from the number 1 show when you have The Challenge, Survivor, Love Island etc. And Big Brother has been around in America much longer than the rest (nearly two decades). If we want to be technical, BBNaija isn't even 10 years old. Big Brother in the US is still going strong. There are just so many shows that match up with it in terms of viewership and fanbase.
Funny enough the aforementioned American shows all have the exact same voting format. Weird.
But that being said, I agree that the power to vote should remain with the audience since it's been like that for so long. At best they can implement the "Vote to evict" format to vote for who the audience wants gone, and blend it with the "Vote to save" format for who the audience wants to stay. Announcements of the voting pattern will be announced to the audience every week after nomination. This is not exactly true.. the winner of BBUS 2021 Xavier Prather just has 91k Instagram followers. This is even as he was a recent contestant in the Challenge USA The winner of BBCANADA 2022 Kevin Jacobs just has 8500 followers. The winners of BBnaija go on to have millions in followers. Do the math. The followership of the HMs of western BB version which technically represents their fanbase is small just for one reason and one reason alone, viewer participation. The BBnaija pattern of voting make the viewers invested. The game doesn't end with just the contestants, it continues with viewers. The viewers invest their time, emotion and sometimes even funds to see that who they like come out tops. The disadvantage of this system is that it isn't necessarily the best player that wins. The advantage of this system is that anyone lucky enough to grow a fanbase will do well outside of the show even if they don't win. The US system relies heavily on strategy and alliances. Interesting to watch, but it doesn't make the viewers emotionally invested enough in the housemates for the life outside the show. My conclusion is that Big brother naija should stop with the silly twists. If they want the eviction power to be on the HMs, then they should follow that pattern from the beginning. This will naturally give rise to alliances and voting blocs and the HMs will know that their survival in the house is strictly in their own hands. |

This Amaka's eviction pained me sha. I actually shed tears. The poor girl just couldn't catch a break! Yeah she's clumsy, so what! That doesn't make her a bad person.
Well her eviction is bittersweet to me. Bitter because she wasn't given a fair chance to fight for her stay in the house and sweet because i know that she's now around those who love her as she is. Those who love her bubbly, amiable and forgiving personality. She's simply one of the realest in that house and she was just her self, warts and all. I'll miss seeing her on my screen, but i know this is only the beginning of great things for her. If her fans start a go fund me, God knows I'll contribute.
Well, a sober night for me. Maybe tmrw I'll have my bbnaija mojo back, but for now I'm just blank. |

The issue is not fighting inside, and keeping things private. The issue is publicizing perfection in your relationship, meanwhile there are cracks in the wall.
