Ladycewhy: The problem I see here is you know how to type on the internet but don't know how to have a conversation with your husband. Go fix that.
I was nearly duped too , someone called my uncle about a job and he called me and gave their number . My uncle kept pressuring me about it , I knew right way that it was a scam and I knew my uncle was ignorant of the whole deal . After shutting the scammers down ,I told my uncle straight up and even gave him examples , he was happy I didn't fall victim and the matter died .
You can imply your sister in-law is being used , that way ,it won't seem like a direct accusation. You know your husband more than any of us. Have the conversation with him ,you know how best to put the words to him in a way it doesn't suggest his sister is directly involved. Who told you we didnt have a conversation about it? Where did you get that from? I told him that his sister could mean well and i just wasn't sure the source and when a source I'm sure about comes around, only then will we pay, but if he still believes the job is legit, he can go ahead and pay. Of course he didn't pay and the whole thing ended there. |

ojuu4u: .
How did knw it has died down? As a lawyer you know what they remote causes, in future battle.
Let me advice you in case of another time in which you want to fight battle that has to do with ur in laws , you should fight it through ur husband, if not, you maybe putting urself in a very dangerous position.
Going by ur illustration, you said ur husband also joined them to blame u, next time if u don't handle it with caution it may consume you
You are a woman, closer to ur husband more than any of his siblings, the issue was even, a personal one. You were supposed to convince ur husband most especially when u re a lawyer, having convinced him, thre is notting wrong if you tell ur hubby that you smell scam, if as a *lawyer wife' you can't convince ur hubby on bed, how will u convince judge in court room?
You will tell ur in law to talk to ur husband, the battle will now be family to family and not our wife is disobeying in-laws, It's not a do or die affair. Job is not by force. Sil said she has a job for me, i told her i paid for another one. She got upset about it because she must have believed I'll fall for that scam. She'll move on from it if she hasnt already. |

afribabe: Saying that it doesn't/won't bother you if she went to her brother(your husband) directly without involving you is where I am actually worried.. If you try to scam my husband in anyway, you have as well scammed me and vice versa...
If I look away, and you succeeded in scamming my family's future away, I won't forgive myself.
Your spouse downfall is your downfall, same way his/her success is also yours.
Secure/protect your finances jointly because at the end of the day, it's the family's resources and it is going to suffer/enjoy the consequences as the case maybe...
And to people that scam their loved ones, you all are even worse than those yahoo boys. Because I don't know how you will look into the eyes of people you have shared the good and bad times together and still have the heart to cause them pains...... Na wa o If you're not married, you may not understand. I always try not to involve myself in my husband and sibling's business. I only shut this one down because it involves me. |

Ladycewhy: @Amya Since he believes it is genuine ,why not call your sister in-law and apologize and tell your hubby to pay her the money. But make sure you let him know what your instincts tells you so at the end you can tell him "I told you so" .
Dem say dog wey wan loss not dey hear e master whilstle I think that is where your husband is at the moment. Something as clear as day light ,your husband still can't see it,na wah o. Seems his people are in control of his reasoning. I don't do "i told you so' |

DrDax: Your relationship with your husband needs an adjustment.
You should be able to tell him HIS SISTER IS A SCAMMER without him taking offense.
You should even be able to tell him HIS MOTHER IS A WITCH without him taking offense.
He even blamed you for not falling for it. SMH Very poor of you.
Do something about your relationship before they turn his head. Believe me, they are working on it.
Shalom. What's with you nairaland guys and trying desperately to fault women in any post concerning them. How can i in good conscience tell my husband that his sister is trying to scam us? Do you know the blowout that could happen from it? The bad blood that may be forever csused by such accusstion? Yeah my sil was trying to pull a con, but she's not the devil. Even now, I respect her and still relate well with her especially as she didnt succeed. The way i did it was the best because even now, everything has died down. Pkatakpata they'd only say i was too big to take the job offer. That itself isn't a sin |

DardyGentle: From your story all blame should really be on you as you are experiencing now. First of all, why didn't you tell your husband from the start that his sister was trying to help you with a job and see his reaction. Even when she wanted to tell him herself why didn't you give the go ahead so that even if it was a scam, your husband will deal with it as she is his sister and the blame is not on your head.
Secondly we all know most of these job opportunities is who know who and money changing hands. What if she was genuinely trying to help you maybe because she knows they won't accept her age and probably she don't have the qualification you have to fit in. Maybe she wanted to help you so that when you enter you might not forget her with some little monthly tithes from your salary.
Sometimes people need to think about things from different angles and not just one perspective which they believe in. The reason I am saying this is because everyone didn't see it as a scam including your husband which means there is probably some genuine connect in what she was trying to do just maybe she added some extra cash to the fee they requested or they might be right about the way they see you. Seems you're just too desperate to fault me. It was a scam simple and short. |

afecgivers: Scam! When it's not your money. This is the reason I avoid family or relative business, she is a family member, let her know if the job doesn't go through she will refund the money. Maybe your hubby is stingy and the family planned a means to obtain money through job scam as they believe it's the only way your hubby will drop the cash....you come bust their game.. You wicked. Now it's now family wahala. And you are not there when they were raising him. Anyway you smart. She can scam him through other means not using me in the process. If my hubby pays for this scam, can i in good conscience expect him to pay again when the genuine slot comes around? |

Acidosis: You should be worried. Asides business intellect, the ability to detect and perceive scam from afar is paramount in this country. Seems the woman knows her brother's mumu button. You said she's based in Lagos ba? And you guys are in Abuja? No surprises at all.
Your husband wouldn't have allowed that communication between you and his sister in the first place if he was street smart.
All she needed from you was your consent (i.e. your cv). The power to scam her brothers lie in her hands. That's terrible.
There are certain schemes scammers won't present to you because they know who you are. Your hubby seems like a easy target for her. And this, sadly, will continue for a very long time.
Be worried, my sister. If she wants to scam her brother directly, and he falls for it, good and fine. If however she wants to use me in her scam, then it cant work. My MIL usually call me from time to time to inquire in a mocking tone if I'd finally gotten the supposed one i allegedly paid for. When i tell her no, she'll be like my daughter wanted to help you but you refused.. She's been a bit chill now when the co-wife's own busted though. It was even from her i heard they'd paid for my co-wife and the job didnt come through. Her money is it sef. |

Kobojunkie: OK! So you did tell your husband, and he thinks you rejected out of pride?
By the way, how did your sister-in-law know to call you in the first place with the job offer? Did you ever find out whether your hubby blabbed to her about that or something? I dont think hubby blabbed. They hadly communicate even. She pulled that not just with me but with my co wife. She succeeded with co-wife and when when no job came out of it, i got a little break especially from her mum. But even with that failed incident, i dare not say my co-wife was scammed. |

Kobojunkie: According to her story, she did not have the talk with her husband. I doubt that if she had done that, this ...
... would have happened. But as they say, hindsight, they say, is 20/20! Check the original post. I added a modification to clear this up |
