Travel / 9 Best Affordable Places To Live In Lagos by aNAIJAFAN(m): 8:51am On Jul 28, 2016
The centre of excellence and metropolitan city of Lagos is one place virtually every Nigerian wishes to live in. But the cost of living – especially renting a home, can make you back off and decide to live elsewhere as they are doubled compared to other places in Nigeria.

It’s no news that places on the Island like Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki are the most sought after places in Lagos because they are fine, highly developed and hold some of the best hotels in Lagos. But then one must ‘cut a coat according to size’. So below I am going to be telling you some great but yet affordable places you can live in Lagos.

9. Ikeja

Ikeja is the state capital of Lagos State. It is a well planned, clean and quiet residential and commercial town with shopping malls, pharmacies and government reservation areas.

The Murtala Mohammed International Airport is located in Ikeja.
It now boasts a shopping mall, Ikeja City Mall, which is the largest mall in the Mainland of Lagos State and also has a cinema.

8. Yaba

Yaba is a suburb located in Lagos Mainland LGA. There are many institutions of higher learning in the area like Queens College, the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, the Yaba College of Technology, Igbobi College, the University of Lagos, the Federal School Science and Technical College, and the Federal College of Education.
Yaba has one of the busiest market sites in Lagos, known as Tejuosho Market, Nigeria.

7. Surulere

Surulere is a residential and commercial Local Government Area located on the mainland of Lagos. It is home to the Lagos National Stadium (capacity 60,000) built in 1972 for the All-Africa Games.
One of the most popular places in Surulere is Ojuelegba. It is known for its crowded setting and regarded as one of the busiest places in Lagos. It connects the city's mainland with Lagos Island and Victoria Island.

6. Ogba

Ogba, about five kilometres west of Ikeja, is a densely populated area with a mix of housing for high and low income earners. Rents at the top end are lower than in Allen Avenue and Omole Estates. Ogba is located at the heart of Lagos metropolis and is therefore easily accessible by bus and taxi.
Ogba has a popular Sunday market patronized by people from all over Lagos, an evening/night market and a handful of shopping malls. Small hotels, guest houses, eateries and drinking bars provide the only real relaxation in the area.

5. Maryland

Maryland is a residential and commercial area on the mainland of Lagos. It is located close to Ikeja and the Military Cantonment. The area is quiet compared to other places in Lagos with several housing estates.
The Maryland mall is opening soon

4. Apapa

Apapa is a Local Government Area in Lagos, located to the west of Lagos Island. The region of Apapa lies near the mouth of Lagos lagoon, and contains ports and terminals for various commodities such as containers and bulk cargo, houses, offices and a small old disused railway station. It also houses some refineries like the Bua Group. It also has commercial offices of many shipping, clearing and transportation companies. Other notable buildings include the Folawiyo Towers. Apapa houses the headquarters of the Nigerian newspaper Thisday.

3. Festac Town

Festac Town is a federal housing estate located along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Lagos State, Nigeria. Its name is derived from the acronym FESTAC, which stands for Second World African Festival of Arts and Culture that was held there in 1977.
The Nigerian government invested substantial sums of money and resources into building Festac Town, which has state of the art electrical generators, police and fire stations, access to public transportation, supermarkets, banks, health centres, public restrooms, and postal services.

2. Iyana Ipaja

Iyana Ipaja simply means the road that has branched off to Ipaja town in Yoruba language. The area now known as Iyana Ipaja was historically inhabited by the Mosakus, Alaagbas, Okis and the Alaguntans.
Iyana Ipaja is in the Alimosho Local government of Lagos State. Other areas around Iyana Ipaja are Abule Egba, Akowonjo, Agege, Egbeda and Ikeja

1.Magodo

Magodo is a place in Kosofe Local Government Area, Lagos. It lies toward the outskirts of Lagos in close proximity to Ikeja and Ojodu Berger. Magodo is basically a residential area that is known to be home to some affluent people of society.
A great place to shop is the Ketu Market where all kinds of fresh foods and ingredients can be bought while the Ikeja City Mall located close to the area creates an avenue for people to catch some fun.

Nairaland / General / I Can’t Guarantee Fulani Herdsmen’s Safety, Says Fayose by aNAIJAFAN(m): 5:10pm On May 22, 2016
There was an outrage on Sunday over the Friday night attack by criminals suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on Oke Ako in Ikole Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Two persons died from the attack while three others are receiving treatment in separate private hospitals in Ikole Ekiti and Ado Ekiti.

Governor Ayodele Fayose has warned that there could be reprisal attacks on Fulani herdsmen in the state if they did not desist from invading communities and attacking the people.

He described the assailants as “agents of the devil that must be fished out and punished accordingly.”

The governor, who commiserated with the people, especially the family of the deceased, vowed to do everything within his power to forestall the reoccurrence of such attack and safeguard the lives of Ekiti people.

Fayose in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said the Fulani herdsmen were becoming a major threat to the unity of Nigeria.

“I will not fold my hands while armed herdsmen invade communities in Ekiti, killing people and destroying farmlands at will as they have done in other states.

“I have directed the police and other security agencies in the state to fish out the killer herdsmen. I am in constant touch with the security agencies and I hope that the killer herdsmen will be fished out wherever they are and made to face the full wrath of the law.

“The people of Oke-Ako should therefore remain calm while the security agents do their job. However, the security agents must be mindful of the fact that the people’s patience has a limit and they must therefore act promptly and decisively.”

A member of the seventh House of Representatives, Bamidele Faparusi, has called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, to investigate claims by residents that policemen from Ikole demanded N12,000 for fuel and did not respond promptly to distress call.

Faparusi, in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, urged Arase to punish anyone indicted to serve as a deterrent to others.

“The villagers revealed that the police in Ikole Divisional Police Station demanded a sum of N12,000 before they can go to Oke Ako to rescue the people. This is an issue that must be investigated thoroughly.

“The IGP should send a powerful delegation from Abuja to carry out an investigation and those found guilty should be punished.

“The police cannot afford to toy with the lives of the Nigerian citizens. I am sure that if they had acted swiftly when the incident was reported, that could have helped in reducing the severity of the attack,” he said.

The governor, who described activities of the Fulani Herdsmen as inimical to the revival of agriculture in the country lamented that farmlands worth billions of naira had been destroyed in states in the South-West, South-East and North-Central zones of the country.

“One wonders how Nigerians can go back to farming when those already in the farms are losing billions of naira worth of crops to destruction of their farmlands by the Fulani Herdsmen and the Federal Government is not doing anything about it.”

“I am sounding a note of warning to the Fulani herdsmen and those who can talk to them should also do so now. If they continue with these wanton attacks, killing of the people and destruction of farmlands in Ekiti, I cannot guarantee that there won’t be reprisal attacks.

“I can also not guarantee the level that the reprisal attacks can get to because as a governor, it is my responsibility to defend and protect my people.”

Fayose called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop paying lips service to the Fulani herdsmen’s menace, saying as patron of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, the president had the capacity to caution the herdsmen.

“President Buhari should therefore call his people to order because this is Ekiti; our people have the rights to defend themselves.

“Most importantly, President Buhari must be reminded of how he was so concerned about the killing of Fulani herdsmen in in Saki, Oke Ogun Area of Oyo State such that he, as a private citizen led Arewa to Ibadan on October 13, 2000, to confront the then Governor of Oyo State, late Alhaji Lam Adesina.”

Hehehn!! Lest i forget

*****NEW SCAM OO!!*****

Don't fall a victim o!

You will never believe what happened to me today.

I still can't get over it.

I went to the supermarket to pick something to eat
before an event. As I was walking down the aisle, I noticed this
woman starring at me.
I looked at her and kept walking to the front counter
to pick bottled water and gala.
As I picked them and turned, I found the same woman
right behind me! I tried to show her some
love, so I smiled & said "hi".
Then I went on to get a canned coke.
Can u believe the same woman followed me?
I was getting a little bit
nervous and mad because she was following me without saying a thing.
But I tried to stay friendly, I just said "hi" again.
She finally responded and said, "I am sorry for
starring but you look just like my youngest SON.
We just buried him two weeks ago" I felt silly for
getting mad as I expressed my sympathy to her. She said she was fine as she knows that her Child is
with the Lord.
She then asked me to do her a favour which I obliged.
She said "I'm a bit sad that my child never said
goodbye to me before passing on".
She asked me to get in line behind her so when she's leaving the store, I should say "goodbye mum" so she
could have some sense of closure.
Though her request was weird, I however agreed to
grant it.
So as she collected her bags from the cashier and
walked away, I said "bye mum". She turned and said "bye dear".
When d cashier calculated my stuff, she said d total
was N18,750.
I said what!!!
Can u tell me how a N70 bottled water, N50 gala and
N100 canned coke equals N18,750? She said "your mum said you are paying for hers too".
My mum? I shouted.
That woman is not my mother ooo!!!.
I quickly rushed out just in time to see the woman
approaching the parking lot. I ran after her and was
screaming..."ex cuse me, excuse me!!!". She started running.
I caught up with her just before she was able to close
the door of her car.
I kept on pulling and pulling her leg, just like I am
pulling yours now!
You too like gist self. See as you serious dey read....
