BusinessWhy We Stand Out In Freight Forwarding Business - Janksmay Boss by AnambraPeople(op): 9:56am On Jul 21, 2025
Why We Stand Out In Freight Forwarding Business - Janksmay Boss

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Janksmay Global Services Ltd, Mr. Ifeanyi Onwuachu, has shed light on the key attributes that distinguish a truly professional and dependable freight forwarding agency, while also highlighting what sets his company apart in the highly competitive logistics industry.

Speaking recently in an interview with newsmen, Mr. Onwuachu noted that just as a good lawyer is judged not only by appearances in court but by the ability to secure victories both in and out of court, so too is a good freight forwarding agency measured by how well it protects and adds value to its clients' businesses. He emphasized that the first and most critical attribute of a reputable freight forwarder is professionalism, which stems from being intellectually sound and well-acquainted with global trade rules and terminologies.

According to him, today’s freight forwarding business demands that operators must match international standards, as they are often interfacing with foreign shippers who are themselves freight forwarders in other countries. This, he said, means that a Nigerian freight forwarder must possess the competence to engage at that level and ensure the client’s business remains afloat and protected at all times.

Mr. Onwuachu described Janksmay Logistics as a firm that takes its clients' businesses personally. “When I take up a job, I see it as my business because if you succeed, I succeed. My mission is always to ensure that the client is happy. Without customer satisfaction, there can be no repeat business,” he explained.

He further identified customer satisfaction and the ability to secure retainership as another mark of a good freight forwarding agency.

In his words, “When a client is satisfied, they not only bring repeat business but also make valuable referrals. A single happy client can attract several other clients, and I have had cases where one client referred nearly ten other businesses to us because of the trust we have built over time.”

Trust and integrity, Mr. Onwuachu maintained, are cornerstones of any successful logistics company. He stressed that a freight forwarding company must stick to agreed costs and be transparent about any unforeseen changes that arise during operations. “Integrity means doing what you say you will do. We work within budget, and if anything comes up, we communicate it professionally so that the client understands. Losses or additional costs should be shared fairly to ensure both businesses survive,” he stated.

Mr. Onwuachu also lamented the presence of unprofessional practices in the industry, where some agents deliberately underquote costs to win jobs, only to resort to extortion later. He pointed out that Janksmay Logistics steers clear of such tactics, preferring honesty and long-term client relationships.

On the importance of continuous staff training, the Janksmay Boss noted that even the best company can be brought down by ill-informed employees. He stressed the need to consistently train staff to ensure that their knowledge aligns with the company’s values and promises to clients.

Affordability, according to him, is also crucial. While ensuring quality service, he said, a good freight forwarder must be mindful of clients’ budgets and guide them on customs duties, tariffs, and permissible items to ensure compliance and value.

Mr. Onwuachu concluded by reiterating that no two jobs are the same in the logistics sector, as each consignment requires unique attention, research, and energy. He called on freight forwarding companies to rise to the challenge of professionalism, integrity, and value-driven service that uplifts both their businesses and those of their clients.

EducationAnambra Varsity Makes History, Secures €400,000 EU Grant. by AnambraPeople(op): 7:10pm On Jul 17, 2025
Anambra Varsity Makes History, Secures €400,000 EU Grant.

The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU),has secured its first-ever European Union (EU) research grant, worth €400,000, under the prestigious Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education programme.

This significant accomplishment is a major milestone for the university, and a direct outcome of the visionary leadership of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, FNIPR, whose strategic “3Vs Agenda” (Values, Viability, and Visibility) is gradually reshaping the university's standing on the global academic map.

The awarded project, titled "Enhancing Employability of Accounting Graduates in Uganda and Nigeria by Integrating Employability Skills into Accounting Education using Work-Integrated Learning Approach" (acronym: DESIRED), aims to address one of the most pressing challenges facing higher education in Africa, which is the growing gap between university education and labour market expectations.

The project seeks to empower young accounting graduates in Nigeria and Uganda with practical, in-demand employability skills through a structured Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) model. The grant will fund this ambitious effort over a 24-month period and will involve extensive collaboration between eight prestigious institutions across four countries.

The Nigerian institutions in the project consortium include Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK). Their African counterparts from Uganda are MAT ABACUS Business School and Makerere University Business School (MUBS). Joining them are three prominent European partners: Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal), Stichting VU (Netherlands), and Uganda Chapter for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), alongside consulting firm Sejjaaka Kaawaase & Co.. This multi-country collaboration reinforces COOU’s rising international status and strengthens its research and teaching network across borders.

The DESIRED project will benefit over 3,000 students and staff in Nigeria and Uganda, and will focus on critical activities such as curriculum redesign, development of a WIL quality control framework, industry-academia engagement strategies, and capacity building through student and staff mobility programmes.

More importantly, the initiative will institutionalise accounting-industry partnerships and provide participating students with access to hands-on training, internships, and employment pipelines. It also aims to enhance the professional identity of accounting graduates from the onset of their studies and better prepare them for recruitment schemes like “Graduate Into Employment” initiatives.

This achievement is not only a credit to the dynamic leadership of Prof. Omenugha, but also a reflection of the bold vision and continuous support of the Visitor to the University and Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR. His passionate belief in the capacity of COOU and his Solution Agenda have created an enabling environment for innovation, academic excellence, and international recognition. Under his leadership, education in Anambra State has become a priority vehicle for sustainable development, youth empowerment, and global partnerships.

COOU’s journey to securing this EU grant did not happen by chance. In February 2024, the Acting Vice-Chancellor inaugurated a 16-member Research Management Office (RMO) Team with an agenda to lead the University’s research and internationalisation strategy.

On 28 February 2024, COOU hosted a high-level international workshop titled "Deepening COOU's International Agenda: The Erasmus+ and Other Pathways", drawing attention to the university’s readiness for global partnerships. This was closely followed by a diplomatic engagement with the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Her Excellency Joanna Tarnawska, at the Polish Embassy in Abuja, as well as the EU Embassy also in Abuja, opening further international windows of opportunity for COOU.

On March 8, 2024, COOU successfully registratered on the European Commission Funding and Tenders Portal (ECFTP) which officially qualified the university to enter strategic partnerships and apply for future EU-funded projects, a major move that solidifies its international footing.

This landmark grant represents more than just financial support. It signals the beginning of a new era for COOU. An era in which research, teaching, student development, and international collaboration will thrive.

Anambra Industrialist Plans South-East’s Biggest Food Processing Factory.

Anambra-born billionaire industrialist and renowned entrepreneur, Dr. Ikenna Ifejiofor, has announced strategic plans to establish what he described as the largest food processing factory in the entire South-East region of Nigeria — a move that promises to transform the food industry landscape and enhance local production capacity.

Dr. Ifejiofor, who is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ike God Foods Industries Limited, made this known during an exclusive chat with journalists, where he unfolded his company’s expansion drive and his unrelenting vision to not only boost the Nigerian economy but also position Anambra State as the industrial hub of the South-East.

Ike God Foods Industries Limited is the proud producer of the popular Jolly-Jolly Noodles, a brand that has grown to become a household name in Nigeria’s instant noodles market. The company, headquartered in Anambra State, has steadily diversified its operations and product offerings in recent times, notably by venturing into bread production — a feat that has further demonstrated its capacity to scale and adapt to market demands.

Dr. Ifejiofor further hinted that discussions are already in advanced stages to add two or more production lines before the end of this year as part of the company’s ongoing expansion strategy. The planned addition, he noted, will significantly increase their production capacity and create more job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths in Anambra and beyond.

He also disclosed that plans are underway to incorporate other products into the company’s growing catalogue, including peanut-based snacks, flour, and other value-added food items. According to him, the overarching goal is to make Ike God Foods Industries Ltd. a one-stop shop for quality food products that cater to the needs of Nigerians, particularly in the South-East, where the demand for affordable and nutritious food continues to grow.

“Our goal is to make quality food products at affordable prices for everyone, and we're committed to achieving this through the use of the latest technology and the best professionals in the industry,” he assured, reaffirming his company’s commitment to maintaining high standards and excellence.

Dr. Ifejiofor expressed optimism that his vision for the South-East’s food sector dominance is not only achievable but also sustainable, given his firm belief in the region’s potentials, the caliber of manpower available, and the expanding market size within and outside Nigeria.

By leveraging his expertise and longstanding experience in the food manufacturing sector, the industrialist revealed that Ike God Foods is well-positioned to set the pace in industrial food processing, promote local content, and ultimately reduce the country’s over-dependence on imported food products.

How Plane Crash Nearly Killed the Vision for Legacy University Okija — Founder

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

It was an atmosphere of joy, growth, and academic pride as the prestigious Legacy University, Okija, in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, held its 9th matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The event, held at the main campus of the university, attracted dignitaries, government officials, religious leaders, education stakeholders, community leaders, parents, students, and security agencies, among others.

This year’s matriculation comes as a remarkable milestone for the institution, reflecting not only its steady growth since inception but also its unyielding commitment to academic excellence and moral upbringing of students. The well-attended occasion commenced with a solemn Holy Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Basil Umunna (who is also the Registrar of the University), Rev. Fr. Jude Ezike (Rector of St. Paul’s Seminary, Ukpor), and Rev. Fr. Ethelbert Ifenatuora.

Delivering his homily, Rev. Fr. Jude Ezike reflected on his personal witness of the university’s founding and its remarkable journey of growth. Drawing inspiration from Matthew chapter 10, he emphasized Christ’s injunction to “fear not,” encouraging both the Management and the students of Legacy University to remain steadfast, undeterred by challenges, and focused on their mission. He recounted the hurdles encountered by the institution during the accreditation process, particularly the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of the NUC’s final accreditation team in 2012, leading to delay in the process. Despite that, the institution triumphed and blossomed, now matriculating over 400 students, compared to the smaller numbers in its early days.

Rev. Fr. Ezike admonished the matriculants to build themselves on good character, morality, and academic excellence. He urged them not to be disheartened by speculations of job scarcity but to diligently prepare themselves to create opportunities through hard work, self-determination, and faith in God. He told the students that their future commenced with the matriculation, stressing that “your first class starts today, and your future is in your hands.”

The Founder and Pro-Chancellor of the University, Dr. Leonard Nkameme, while addressing the gathering, described the matriculation as a celebration of resilience, vision, and strong dedication to producing globally competitive graduates. He recounted the harrowing moments following the 2012 plane crash, which nearly shattered their accreditation pursuit, but expressed gratitude that hope was rekindled to reposition the university for greatness.

He noted that the institution currently boasts an impressive accreditation status of over 95%, pointing to its high academic standards and quality assurance mechanisms. He proudly mentioned that the university has produced alumni who are excelling globally, including the pioneer SUG President, Chisom Okeke, making waves in Japan, and a manager at Dangote Refinery, Lagos, who is also a product of Legacy University. He revealed that on August 6, some of these notable alumni would be returning to the university to appreciate the institution that shaped them.

Dr. Nkameme also highlighted their partnerships, including with the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, in relevant medical courses, and the addition of new departments such as Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Cyber Security, Public Health Sciences, History and International Relations, and Software Engineering. He further disclosed plans underway to establish a Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.

While acknowledging the progress, he appealed to both the Federal and State governments for support in accessing interventions like the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the Education Trust Fund (ETF) to tackle infrastructural challenges, even as he appealed to the state government for intervention, especially on the deplorable access road leading to the university. He also appealed for scholarships to assist indigent students and emphasized the necessity for parents to fulfill their financial obligations to enable the university maintain and improve its services.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ezekiel Ihionu, congratulated the matriculants and reminded them that matriculation formally admits them into the university system. He urged them to remain focused, warning that the quality of their degree would reflect their dedication and commitment throughout their academic journey.

Prof. Ihionu affirmed that all programmes offered by the university are fully accredited, and that the 2024 re-accreditation exercise by the National Universities Commission (NUC) was successful. He expressed pride in the university’s growing academic offerings and infrastructure, including the establishment of the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences and plans to introduce Mass Communication soon. The VC sternly warned against cultism, improper dressing, and any form of misconduct, emphasizing the university’s zero tolerance for social vices.

He also joined the Pro-Chancellor in appealing for government intervention to fix the dilapidated road leading to the university, noting that the majority of the university’s students and staff are indigenes of Anambra who deserve such infrastructure and other social amenities provided by the state government.

On his own part The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, represented by Dr. Babangida Aliyu, commended the university’s efforts in sustaining high academic standards, while expressing confidence in the university’s future contributions to nation-building through sound education. He described Legacy University as a shining example of private education development in Nigeria, and commended it for its rapid growth, commitment to quality education. The Commission joined voice to appeal for the state government’s intervention on the dilapidated road leading to the university, which is nothing to write home about.

While assuring the institution of the NUC’s support in its continuous growth; Dr. Babangida also urged the matriculants to maximize the opportunity provided by the institution.

In an interview newsmen, the member representing Ihiala 2 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Eze Golden Chukwuebuka Iloh, lauded Legacy University for contributing immensely to education in the region and pledged to advocate for the government’s intervention in improving the institution’s infrastructure, especially the access road and other infrastructural needs. He also urged the students to aim to make their families, the institution and the country proud throughout their study years in the University.

In their separate remarks, the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Legacy University, Chief Festus Onyima; the BoT Secretary, Sir Lawrence Obetta; and the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Ibe Chinyere, jointly reaffirmed their strong passion and commitment to promoting standard and accessible education in Nigeria. They emphasized that their sacrifices in advancing Legacy University stem from a noble vision of making quality university education accessible to less-privileged Nigerians, rather than a luxury for the wealthy alone.

According to them, Legacy University is not just focused on producing academically sound graduates, but also on creating an inclusive environment where indigent students can reshape their destinies through affordable education. They proudly noted that Legacy University remains one of the most affordable private universities in Nigeria — a deliberate policy aimed at easing the financial burden on parents while maintaining high academic standards. This, they added, forms part of the university’s broader mission of contributing to human capital development in the country and beyond.

The trio further disclosed that the Management constantly explores scholarship opportunities, collaborations, and partnerships to support brilliant but financially challenged students, expressing optimism that with more support from the government, private sector, and philanthropists, the university would expand more in both academic programmes and admission capacity for disadvantaged students.

While commending the Founder and Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Leonard Nkameme, for his foresight and resilience in establishing the institution on a solid foundation, they appealed to the Anambra State Government and relevant federal agencies to complement their efforts by addressing critical infrastructure needs, especially the access road to the university, which they described as a major challenge. They concluded by urging the new matriculants to take full advantage of the opportunities the university offers, excel academically, and uphold the core values of integrity, diligence, and service to humanity upon which Legacy University was founded.Anambra real estate

The event also featured goodwill messages from various guests, including representatives of security agencies, community leaders, and educational stakeholders. Among others, major highlights of the event include the colourful procession of matriculants and staff, cultural performances by students, cutting of the matriculation cake, and the official oath-taking by the over 400 newly admitted students.

The matriculation ceremony not only reaffirmed the university’s commitment to raising future leaders but also solidified its position as a growing citadel of learning that stands resiliently on the legacies of faith, excellence, and service to humanity.

BusinessHow I Stopped IBB From Adding Onitsha To Delta State’ - GUO by AnambraPeople(op): 7:56am On Jul 13, 2025
How I stopped IBB from adding Onitsha to Delta State’ - GUO

Chief Godwin Ubaka Okeke, popularly known as GUO, is the Chairman, Board of Directors, G.U. Okeke & Sons Limited and G.U.Okeke Transport Services Limited. The transport mogul and businessman who recently celebrated his 76th birthday, spoke on the sidelines of the event, and bared his mind on issues of governance, the polity and life experiences. He particularly recalled the “coup” he led Onitsha business elite to successfully execute against the then military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, who planned cut Onitsha out from Anambra State and join it with Asaba to create Anioma State, with Asaba as capital. Enjoy the interview.

When you look at Nigeria today, how do you feel?

I am so disappointed that our nation is not doing well. Life was much better in the past when I was growing up and even when I started business. The exchange rate of the naira was good and the economy was booming. At that time it was easier, to a large extent, to plan your operations well because the exchange rate was stable and you could predict the cost of operations for one, two or three months ahead, because prices were relatively stable due to the stability of the exchange rate. Basic necessities of life were very affordable. The poor could find to eat. Today, even the people who are genuinely rich are not finding it easy. Corruption and bad leadership teamed up to destroy the economy. I do agree that external factors may have contributed a bit but if we had good leadership, then the leaders would have taken necessary proactive steps to shield the country from the impact of negative external factors.

It is a big shame that till today, when Nigeria is almost 65 years old since independence, our country still cannot generate up to 5000 megawatts of electricity, which is why you see generators everywhere, from the small Tiger generators which hairdressing and barbing salons use to the big diesel generators in the premises of companies, secretariats, universities, Government Houses and Aso Rock State House. The good educational system that produced my generation and others before us has broken down. That is why we now talk about cultism in universities. Like I said earlier, we squarely blame bad leadership and corruption for the state of the nation. That is why I am appealing to the media to strongly tell the entire society that all of us must stand up and protect the economy of Nigeria, starting from the Federal, State and Local government authorities including the civil service. I so much believe that Nigeria is a blessed country. God loves us so much that He gave us many things free, to get us moving. Unfortunately, some people are misusing these gifts, stealing and robbing the general public for their own selfish ends. We talk of people embezzling billions. We never heard that before, now we are moving into trillions being stolen. For how long are we going to keep quiet and these things will be going on?

Peter Obi suggested the other time to add firing squad and life imprisonment for those defrauding and stealing from government purse, including companies. That is the only solution that can save this country or else the whole economy will collapse. Look at China and the way they operate, they have all these things. You can’t steal and get away with it over there and I think it is only this harsh punishment that can deter people from corruption in Nigeria. Can you imagine that when politicians share rice, garri, beans and money during their campaigns, we clap for them? After that, our suffering continues with no good roads, security, no power, etc. How can industries survive under this atmosphere? Look at our higher institutions, before now, many people outside the country used to come to Nigeria to study as international students but today it is very rare to hear of such. The schools are not well equipped, hospitals are rotting away, and roads are deathtraps while factories are moving into other African countries. We have the power to vote people in and vote them out. Let the media help to educate the people on their rights.

What are your greatest regrets now that you are 76?

I have too many regrets, most especially seeing so many potentials of what the people in government can do to make life better for the citizens but they are not doing them. There is too much suffering and poverty in Nigeria, when Nigerians are supposed to have the best life. The reason we are always happy in life is because of the love of God for our family. I don’t know how many of you who were in Onitsha by 1991, when there was strong indication that Onitsha will be merged with parts of Delta State to create Anioma State. I took great risk then. Senator Chuba Okadigbo now of blessed memory called us for a meeting in Awka and exposed the plot to excise Onitsha from Anambra to join Asaba as Anioma State. He gave us an exclusive scoop then, that the then President Ibrahim Babangida was coming to the area within days to make the announcement. There were serious agitations by Warri and Sapele people after the creation of Delta State and making Asaba the capital, they protested that Asaba being the boundary between Delta and Anambra should not be the state capital. But knowing that Babaginda’s wife, Maryam, was from Asaba, IBB wanted to appease them too by making Asaba the capital to give them that honour. When Okadigbo exposed the plot, we had to organize an action immediately to thwart that move. As the leader of the traders in Onitsha at that time, we said we cannot cross the River Niger to join Asaba as another state because the traders own 98 percent of investments in Onitsha and Ogbaru. We maintained that the River Niger is the natural boundary for both states and nothing else. By the time we planned the action in the night, some traditional rulers were drafted to go to Abuja to see IBB while other people were deployed for massive blockade and demonstration. But by 2.00am, our plan was leaked. Soldiers, police and detachments of other security agents surrounded my house in Onitsha and placed me on house arrest. I kept quiet but they didn’t know that we had planned the execution far ahead. Though they surrounded me in the house, the roads were already jammed up as early as 6.00am that morning. It was well organized that there was no single movement of vehicles and the bridgehead was also blocked. The protesters were shouting, “We are not going to Anioma, we no go gree.” IBB instead of entering Asaba through Benin Airport landed in Enugu and came by road to Onitsha enroute Asaba. I was still in my house that morning under house arrest when I got a phone call from the police boss that there is trouble in Onitsha. The police said I should come out and talk to the protesters so they can clear the road but I told the police I could not move an inch since I was being held up in my home. By 7.30 am, they called me again that they have been ordered to leave my house, that I’m no longer under house arrest but I should come out and help so that I can bring the situation back to normalcy. That was when I had to go to the bridgehead and when the protesters saw me, they erupted into wild jubilation. While we were there, I got the signal that IBB was close by with his convoy. I cleared the road and he eventually got to where we were and he came down and addressed us. He asked us what the problem was and we told him in plain language that we didn’t want to join Anioma State with Asaba people. After listening to us, he said, “GUO, tell your people that we are no longer going to do that.” I told him to personally address the people because I may be mobbed if he didn’t act as he said. That was how IBB personally spoke to the protesters with a megaphone and everyone erupted in another wild jubilation. Those we sent to Abuja had not even reached Okene in Kogi State, when IBB made the announcement that we were no more going to Anioma and the news was everywhere. That was how we saved the day for people of Onitsha. That is why today, Onitsha is not under Delta State. It was a big risk that we took then but do you know the irony of the whole thing? Two years after we fought all the battle, some people instigated trouble in Onitsha market in OMATA traders union. They saw what we did and felt that I had become too powerful; that if allowed to continue, we could even topple a sitting government. That time OMATA was very united. If it should be now, all these people enforcing sit-at-home today, we would have crushed them without even government assistance. The then government went as far as sending some traditional rulers to take over OMATA. When that one didn’t work, they sent an army colonel to take charge. Traders protested that they didn’t want the military incursion but they (army) then set fire at one end of the relief market and the opposition cashed in on the opportunity to the extent that the next morning while I was still in my house, it was falsely reported that GUO had set Onitsha market ablaze. In order to save my name, I went to 82 Division in Enugu and reported. I was later brought down to Onitsha army barracks and detained for five weeks. After all the investigations, I was cleared and never indicted in any form.

Why did you decide to celebrate your birthday with the visually impaired, deaf and dumb?

In the 90s when I was the head of the traders in the old Anambra State, we used to see the blind roaming about without help. I started organizing them with my wife. We began paying their school fees and forming the association to the extent that till today, we are still their patron/patroness. We started seeing the potentials in them and today there are some of them who have doctorate and masters degrees and even one of them is a professor. Some of them are gainfully employed today. About 10 years ago, the group of deaf and dumb also came to us seeking assistance and we decided to incorporate them too. From that year, we started attending their events at Central sShool, Onitsha. Luckily for them, I also had my elementary school education at Central School, Onitsha in the 50s. The first time we went for their graduation, we wept seeing how they were abandoned and from then we began assisting them. They say givers never lack because since then, we have been doing fine together with our children. We discovered that many of the deaf and dumb students used to come to school from Ogidi, Asaba and some other far places. When it rains, they could not come to school coupled with the high cost of transportation. That was how the idea of building a dormitory and classroom blocks with laboratory came about and we did that through the Godwin and Patricia Okeke Foundation.

The Anambra State governorship election is due in November. What are your thoughts on this very important election?

Politicians should desist from using our youths as instruments of violence during elections. Some selfish politicians use our youths hopelessly but train their children well. But God cannot be deceived. If you hide your own children in a better way and use other people’s children as thugs, God will eventually turn around and ‘pepper’ you and your children. The whole world is laughing at us. The youths should learn to be wise and take wise decisions and actions too. They should not allow themselves to be used by anybody for selfish purposes.

Who should be blamed for the get-rich-quick syndrome among youths?

I don’t blame the youths much but I blame the older people and parents more for not showing good examples. We expose these children to various unhelpful lifestyles and falsehood. You find rich parents who send their children abroad with embezzled money, and those children end up taking drugs overseas. They would not attend classes because their parents bought mansions and put them in the mansions. They frolic with their boyfriends and girlfriends and that is why many of your youths are getting spoilt seeing all these things. I was already a millionaire before I married, and God kept blessing me after marriage, but my wife and I have never indulged our children or allowed the little we had to influence our children negatively. None of our children had a car while in the university or lived in a flat outside the university hostel. We never gave them the latitude to misbehave because their parents were made. At times, some big men come to us to ask us how we were able to do that and I ask them, ‘have you ever spent your money to train other people’s children or you only mind your own?’ I tell them to make efforts to train others who are not connected to their families. Many children are under our care today even though they are not biologically related to us in any way. I tell parents today to stop exposing our children to that useless lifestyle.

Anambra: Former ONICCIMA President Dies After ASWAMA Attack.

A tragic incident has claimed the life of Hon. Okey Akaneme, former President of ONICCIMA.

Recall, Akaneme was brutally attacked by ASWAMA officials and policemen during a revenue operation at his residence in Onitsha.

The assault left him with severe injuries, including a broken spine, and he succumbed to his injuries after a prolonged fight for his life.

The news about his death was posted by a social media influencer , Ozi Anieto who wrote:

"Hon. Okey Akaneme, former President of ONICCIMA, has passed away.
He was attacked by ASWAMA officials and policemen during a revenue operation - right inside his own home. The assault left him with a broken spine, paralyzed, and fighting for his life. That fight is now over.

"It is a pity how a man woke up healthy in his house one morning, only to receive visitors from a government agency and the police — a visit that would render his children fatherless and make his wife a widow. He will never again speak with his brothers or discuss any family matters. He is gone - just like that.

"He was a man who gave his time, energy, and heart to build this society. But that same society failed to protect him.

"May his spirit find peace in a place where betrayal and injustice can’t reach, a place where service is not punished and dignity is not trampled.

But we who are still here must not stay silent."

Anambra Man Discovers Permanent Cure For Diabetes, Erectile Dysfunction

An Anambra State indigene, Mr. Freeman Kelvin Obumneke, has discovered a natural remedy for diabetes and erectile dysfunction.

Obumneke, from Umudioka village in Awka-South Local Government Area, developed the herbal medicine, Ekwen-Che, after losing his father to diabetic ulcer and subsequently grappling with the same health issues.

According to Obumneke, Ekwen-Che has not only cured his diabetes but also restored his vision and eliminated his erectile dysfunction.

He confirmed that the remedy has been tested on numerous people with remarkable success and has testimonials to support its efficacy.

Obumneke explained that he developed Ekwen-Che after years of research into phyto-science, driven by the alarming statistics of diabetes prevalence in Nigeria, which stands at 11.6% of the population.

He emphasized that Ekwen-Che is a natural, indigenous product from Anambra State, and its development is a significant step towards promoting organic medicine and improved healthcare.

The Ekwen-Che manufacturer disclosed that the remedy has undergone rigorous testing, including toxicological tests and proximate analysis at the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi campus. Clinical research was also conducted at the Technical Incubation Centre, Nnewi, and potency tests were carried out at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Agulu campus. All tests certified Ekwen-Che as a potent and safe remedy for diabetes and associated ailments.

Obumneke has applied for NAFDAC registration, which would enable the sale of Ekwen-Che nationwide and for export.

He recommends Ekwen-Che powder for individuals with diabetes, blurry vision, and erectile dysfunction, citing its ability to stabilize the body system and promote overall well-being.

The innovator also mentioned other herbal products in development, including Ogene-Ike for cholesterol control and infections, Ebubedike, Igbakigba, and Uduako-Mmiri, which are undergoing experimentation and testing.

Peter Obi's Aide Clarifies Trending Photo.

Aide to former Governor Peter Obi has clarified a trending photo of his principal serving food at an event.

According to the aide, Val Obienyem, the photo was taken during the Jubilee of Hope, an event symbolizing a reversal of roles where the privileged serve the poor.

The aide explained that Obi's actions were rooted in his deeply held belief in humility and service, and not a political performance. "Mr. Peter Obi was known to personally serve food to his guests as part of a deeply held belief in humility and service," the aide stated.

The photo was reported out of context, sparking controversy. However, Obienyem noted that other highly placed Nigerians, such as Senator Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, also served food during the event.

The aide emphasized that Obi's humility is a way of life, built on principles of equity and justice.

Peter Obi's Aide Clarify Trending Picture of His Principal Serving Food in An Event.

Read Full Text of Val Obienyem's Clarification

Why Obi Served Food

"Even as Governor, Mr. Peter Obi was known to personally serve food to his guests as part of a deeply held belief in humility and service. Till this day, when visitors come to his home, it is not uncommon to see him offering them food himself. It is a habit formed by principle.

"The photograph now in circulation, showing him serving food at an event, was not a political performance. It was taken during the Jubilee of Hope - part of the Year of Unity and Hope proclaimed by Pope Francis. The event symbolises a reversal of roles: a moment when the privileged serve the poor.

"What Obi did was not for show. It was a quiet, sincere act of humanity - a visible expression of a life built on equity and justice.

"The Jubilee invites those in authority to step down - even if briefly - from their lofty stations, to walk among the lowly and serve. But for men like Peter Obi, such humility is not seasonal. It is a way of life.

"Other highly placed Nigerians, such as Senator Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, also served food that day. The furore caused by the gesture arose from it being reported out of context".

My Brewery Generates more IGR than Soludo's FunCity - Peter Obi

Labour Party Presidential Candidate in 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi, on Friday, said that the brewery he built as governor in Anambra State is generating more Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) than Governor Chukwuma Soludo's double inaugurated Fun City.

Soludo had at first inauguration of the FunCity during President Bola Tinubu's visit claimed that the only time a president visited Anambra State was to commission a federal project and brewery.

Responding to him at campaign rally held for the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate for Anambra November 8 poll, Peter Obi also urged the voters to elect George Moghalu as he has human feelings and compassion.

"We urge you to go to your constituencies and convince people. You live in Anambra so I don't need to tell you what is happening here. You can assess by yourselves.

"I have governed Anambra state and I don't boast of things I didn't do. I ensured quality education and healthcare. They are all verifiable.

"You might have heard that the only thing I did was building brewery. But the same brewery didn't only give employment to thousands of people but is one of the highest tax payers and IGR contributor in the state

"You can compare that brewery with the fun City you have today and say which one is more profitable "

He also disclosed his intention to recontest for the office of the President in 2027, saying that he is serious about it because none of the people expressing intentions to contest have better credential than him.

BusinessWhy We Are Succeeding In Nigeria - Fadaella Biscuit Boss, Igboaka by AnambraPeople(op): 3:46pm On Jul 11, 2025
Why We Are Succeeding in Nigeria-Fadaella Biscuit Boss

Managing Director of Fadaella Foods Ltd, Mr. Peter Igboaka, has attributed the success of Fadaella Biscuit brand to the company's commitment to producing high-quality products.

In an interview with newsmen in Lagos, Igboaka noted that the brand's excellence has enabled it to stand out in the competitive Nigerian market.

Igboaka who made the assertion on the occasion to mark the 8th anniversary of the brand in Nigeria stated that many businesses have prioritized quick profits over building a brand and producing high quality products and would prefer to copy successful products.

"If they see a particular product is making waves, they jump into it and saturate the market with substandard products, only to abandon the business when it becomes unprofitable," Igboaka said.

"But for us, it's about becoming a brand, and that's why we're taking our time to penetrate the Nigerian market."

Igboaka emphasized that Nigerians value quality products and tend to stick with brands that deliver only high-quality stuff. He pointed out that other companies go great extent to copy Fadaella range of products but are always unable to succeed " because we are not just into production, we also invest in research too and we are innovative and ahead of the market"

Igboaka reiterated that as the market leader, Fadaella Foods is set to introduce more varieties of product into the market to further solidify the brand's position.

He explained that the company is committed to producing biscuits that meet the needs of Nigerian consumers, particularly kids.

"We're pushing out the best products to the Nigerian market because we understand the needs of our consumers. Our biscuits are produced with Nigerian kids in mind, carefully considering their taste preferences. We also pay close attention to almost everything to ensure our products are appealing, he concluded"

Former House of Reps speaker, Agunwa Anakwe Dies at 68,Ngige Mourns

Agunwa Anakwe, former speaker of the house of representatives, is dead.

Anambra People gathered he died on Saturday.

Law Mefor, commissioner for information in Anambra, confirmed his passing on Monday.

Although the cause of his death is unclear, the former speaker was said to have been nursing an ailment for sometime.

Anakwe led the third house of representatives at 36 under the interim civilian government of Ernest Shonekan in 1992 until Sani Abacha seized power the following year.

He opposed the agitation for creation of more local governments at the time, which though a legitimate aspiration, was pushed as a disguise to elongate the transition to democracy.

“He steered the House with a lot of dexterity, wisdom and patience, a situation that saw the House having more stability than its Senate counterpart before the military led by General Sani Abacha struck on November 17, 1993, after the annulment of the presidential election won by MKO Abiola of the SDP,” Chris Ngige, former governor of Anambra, where Anakwe hails from, wrote in a statement.

Ngige described Anakwe as a close friend and trusted political ally.

“As Governor, he stood with me in the fight to behead the god-fathers that held Anambra hostage under Gov Mbadinuju resulting in ‘years of the locusts’ situation with unpaid salaries and gratuities for workers, teachers resulting in closure of schools for one academic session; a situation we quickly reversed with restoration of payment of salaries and gratuities as and when due,” he added.

The former labour minister noted that his last visit to the ex-speaker was in late March “when I heard he was sick and was billed for a major surgery”.

“The camaraderie we shared that night and his happiness at seeing us after many months, lifted our spirits not knowing that death, ‘the biggest thief in the night’ was lurking around to steal our friend and brother, Ide Anaocha,” he said.

Ngige said Anakwe’s death has left a “very big void, difficult to fill because of the dearth of principled, accountable and truthful persons in the murky and dirty waters of Nigerian politics”.

INEC Reads Riot Act to Staff Over Upcoming Anambra Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has sent serious warning to both staff and Ad-hoc ones not to hide election materials on the governorship election day or they go to prison

The Anambra state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu, said that the commission will be up and doing on the November 8 governorship election in every ward in the state to make sure such reports don’t arise

Agwu, while briefing the reporyers, said on some occasions, voters would complain of seeing the electoral officials without seeing the materials, adding that such will never be tolerated again.

Again, she announced that the Continuous Voter Registration CVR excercise which will kick off in the state on July 8 to 17 will not hold on Mondays

This, according to her, is not as a result of anything but just to give the residents enough time to prepare adequately for the next day after hard weekend works.

Mondays in the Southeast zone are observed as sit-at- home, as announced some years ago by the Biafra agitators.

The sit-at-home exercise has instilled fear in the Southeast residents as hoodlums use the day to harass, intimidate and kill innocent citizens

Meanwhile, the REC, said the new CVR will not be used for the bye-election for Anambra South senatorial and Onitsha North 1 constituency elections on the August 16, but for the governorship on November 8

She said the second phase of the exercise that commences after the bye-election on August 16 and ends on August 26 will be for the 2027 Presidential election

Agwu, said everything for both the bye-election and the November 8 governorship elections are ready, while the BVAs had been charged and tested too without any problems

“We are ready for the elections, everything has been supplied to us. I’m only begging the residents of the state to come forward for the CVR because you’re doing disservice to your self, the state and the nation if you do not come out and vote on the election day” Agwu said

She said Anambra INEC had received 326 Scanners for the CVR registration from the national headquarters, adding that they would be distributed with the configured BVAs.

BREAKING: APGA Moves To Woo Governors Peter Mbah, Alex Otti Into Party

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has taken step towards expanding its political footprint by welcoming two prominent governors into its fold.

The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has mandated a high-powered delegation, led by Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Uche Nwegbo, to commence the process of integrating Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Alex Otti of Abia State into the APGA family.

According to a statement signed by APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, PhD, the NWC’s decision was reached at its 16th meeting held at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

The statement reads: “APGA, known for its commitment to the welfare of the poor and vulnerable, remains steadfast in its mission to leave no one behind. The Party’s leadership believes that the inclusion of these Governors will further strengthen its resolve to make a positive impact in the lives of Nigerians. The National Working Committee’s decision is a testament to APGA’s commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive platform for progressive governance in Nigeria.”

The potential alliance between APGA and the two governors could significantly alter the political dynamics in Nigeria, particularly in the Southeast region.

Governors Mbah and Otti’s decision to join APGA would not only bolster the party’s influence but also potentially reshape the opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

Alex Otti, governor of Abia State under the Labour Party, has been making waves with his governance style, which emphasizes merit and inclusivity.

Similarly, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has been recognized for his efforts in driving development and progress in his state.

There have been previous speculations about Governor Otti’s potential defection, with some leaders from the PDP and APGA expressing support for him. However, the Labour Party has dismissed claims of Otti’s defection, stating that he has assured them he will stay with the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development has sparked interest and speculation about the potential implications for the political landscape in Nigeria.

As the party continues to build its coalition, it remains to be seen how this move will affect the party’s fortunes in the 2027 elections.

BusinessOnitsha Market Traders Raise Alarm Over The Return Of Banned Fake Drug Dealer. by AnambraPeople(op): 9:39am On Jun 30, 2025
Onitsha Market Traders Raise Alarm over the Return of Banned Fake Drug Dealer.

The leadership of the Ogbo-Ogwu Medicine Market, Bridge Head, Onitsha, Anambra State, has demanded an explanation from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) over the alleged return of Mr. Chibueze Ifejiofor — a trader previously banned from the market for dealing in fake and substandard drugs.

The market leadership, under the Caretaker Committee headed by Mr. Ndubuisi Chukwuleta, raised the concern during a press briefing held at the market’s union hall, following a viral video showing Ifejiofor and his wife verbally assaulting the committee chairman and calling for his removal.

According to Chukwuleta, Ifejiofor was banned by NAFDAC in 2007 after being implicated in the sale of illicit and counterfeit drugs. He was reportedly given 48 hours to vacate the market, with strict orders never to return. The committee now questions how he managed to re-enter the market and even rise to become Vice Chairman of Uba Line.

Chukwuleta said trouble began when he led the Transition Committee and the Market Task Force Against Fake Drugs on a routine inspection of Uba Line. On arrival at Ifejiofor’s shop (BHP 520E), his wife allegedly blocked the entrance and physically pushed the chairman when he attempted to enter. The confrontation quickly escalated, attracting other traders. Ifejiofor allegedly joined in, shouting accusations and mobilizing others to chant against the committee. The altercation was captured on video and circulated on social media.

“This is the same Chibueze Ifejiofor banned by NAFDAC in 2007 for dealing in fake drugs,” Chukwuleta said. “We have a video evidence confirming his ban and eviction. We do not know how he found his way back into this market, and we want NAFDAC to clarify his status.”

He added that Ifejiofor had earlier been suspended by the Anambra State Government as a member of the Transition Committee, after refusing to sign a NAFDAC undertaking to eliminate fake drugs from the market — a document signed by 11 out of 17 committee members.

Chukwuleta alleged that since the suspension, Ifejiofor and five others who also refused to sign the NAFDAC agreement have been inciting unrest in the market with voice notes, social media posts, and physical confrontations aimed at discrediting the executive and sabotaging anti-counterfeit drug campaigns.

“Their goal is to paint us as enemies of the market, so the government will remove us, and they can continue with their illegal activities,” Chukwuleta said. “But we remain focused on sanitizing this market and upholding public health standards.”

He warned that Ifejiofor’s actions could once again attract sanctions from NAFDAC and the state government, similar to what led to the market’s closure last year when officials were attacked during an inspection.

“We avoided calling in market security to prevent a possible bloodbath, which is what Ifejiofor and his group seem to be provoking,” he said. “But we cannot allow Ogbogwu to return to being known as a haven for fake drugs.”

Chukwuleta confirmed that NAFDAC and the state government have been notified of the situation and reiterated the demand for urgent action.

“We want NAFDAC to explain how Ifejiofor came back to the market. If he hasn’t been cleared, then they should act swiftly and decisively. He has clearly returned to the same practices that led to his ban in the first place,” he concluded.

Anambra Rakes in N200M as Muoghalu, Chukwuma, Others Pay N50M Campaign Fee

Ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State, several governorship candidates have begun complying with the N50 million campaign fee set by the state government before political parties could run outdoor adverts.

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) set the tone as the first political party to pay the fee to the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA).

The payment, made last Friday at the ANSAA headquarters in Awka, was led by the party's deputy governorship candidate, Uzu Okagbue. After the payment, Okagbue described the gesture as both symbolic and strategic, affirming the YPP's readiness for the upcoming polls. "This payment is not just about compliance," he said. "It is a declaration of intent—bold, structured, and uncompromising. It reflects our integrity, our respect for due process, and our disciplined approach to governance."

Other candidates who have paid the fee include the Action Alliance (AA) candidate, Ozo Jeff Nweke, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, John Nwosu. The Labour Party (LP) candidate, Chief George Muoghalu, also paid the fee, despite initial reservations about its legitimacy.

After making the payment on Chief Nwosu's behalf, the ADC state chairman, Comrade Anthony Obianyo, said, "We decided to pay the N50 million campaign levy because we don't want anything that will disturb our campaigns." Chief John Nwosu is the second governorship candidate to pay the N50 million fee.

Nweke, who is the fourth contestant to pay the fee, despite faulting it as an illegal fee, stated that with the latest development, his campaign materials would be visible across the 326 electoral wards of the state and beyond.

Meanwhile, the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and his party, APGA, have faced criticism for delaying to pay the fee despite being the ruling party. ,

Also, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the candidate of APC , the major opposition party in Anambra State, is yet to comply with the N50 million directive.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed concerns that the fee violates Section 22 of the Electoral Act and has promised to work with relevant stakeholders to address the issue.

CrimeNewborn Baby Sales Boom In Anambra Rural Communities by AnambraPeople(op): 12:27pm On Jun 29, 2025
The Anambra State Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Ibadin Judith-Chukwu, has exposed a chilling new trend: young couples pretending to cohabit solely to produce babies for sale.

According to the commander, the disturbing trend is especially rampant in rural parts of Anambra, where poverty and lack of awareness make communities easy targets for human traffickers.

Speaking in an interview, Judith-Chukwu described the situation as “a dangerous twist” in the human trafficking trade, revealing how young women are lured into sham relationships, impregnated, and then robbed of their newborns by men pretending to be their partners only for the babies to be sold to the highest bidder.

“A girl gets pregnant, then a man suddenly comes with a marriage proposal. Once she gives birth, he disappears with the baby sold off, often without her knowledge,” she said.

“We’re seeing more cases in villages where people are unaware of these schemes. It’s heartbreaking.”

Judith-Chukwu commended the efforts of the Anambra State Task Force on Human Trafficking, which was established in 2020 to tackle the growing menace.

She said the task force has intensified public awareness campaigns, community engagement, and collaboration with sister agencies to help curb the sale of babies.

“We’re reaching out to traditional rulers, pastors, imams every voice matters in this fight against organized crime,” she emphasized.

Looking ahead, the NAPTIP boss revealed that the agency is preparing for intensive sensitization during the upcoming August meeting, describing it as a crucial opportunity to reach thousands of women across the state.

“The traffickers are organized. We must be more organized. Every family, every community must be on alert,” she warned.
