The project, which covers about 94 hectares with a built-up area exceeding 800,000 square metres, is expected to create over 15,000 direct jobs during its first phase, with construction scheduled between May 2025 and December 2028.
The Zobis Group said the development would also provide opportunities for innovation, research and industrial collaboration while supporting the state government’s economic development agenda.
The visit underscored the growing partnership between the Anambra State Government and investors in driving industrialisation, infrastructure development and economic expansion.

Family Cautions Against Speculation Over Murder of Anambra Billionaire in Abuja
The Adimike family of Awka Etiti, Anambra State, has cautioned the public against what it described as misinformation and unverified reports surrounding the circumstances of the death of their Son, Mr Lucky Chinedu Adimike in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the family said several narratives circulating on social media and some online platforms were speculative and not supported by facts from the ongoing police investigation.
The family stressed that no official conclusion had been reached regarding those responsible for the incident and warned against assigning blame without evidence.
“The family states unequivocally that many of the claims currently being peddled are speculative, misleading, and unsupported by facts emerging from the ongoing police investigation,” the statement said.
It added that the spread of unverified allegations was “irresponsible and deeply hurtful” to the family during the mourning period.
The family also appealed to the media and the public to avoid sensational reporting and allow security agencies to complete their investigations professionally.
The reaction followed reports linking the death of the Abuja resident to an alleged domestic incident, with the FCT Police Command confirming that five persons had been taken into custody as part of ongoing investigations.
Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, had earlier stated that the deceased was discovered in his Guzape residence after concerns were raised over inability to reach him, adding that investigations were ongoing.
Mr Lucky Adimike, a businessman until his death was the CEO of Lucky Accessories, a company into electronics, electrical appliances and real estate.

Neros Pharmaceuticals: The Longest Sponsor of State FA Cups in Nigeria
In the often unpredictable landscape of sports sponsorship in Nigeria, where corporate commitments come and go, Neros Pharmaceuticals Ltd has distinguished itself with an extraordinary record of twenty unbroken years of sponsoring the Anambra State FA Cup, a feat that remains unmatched at both state and national levels. From 2006 to date, the company has not only sustained the competition but transformed it into a model of consistency, credibility, and grassroots football development, investing over N150 million in prize money, logistics, organisation and promotion.
The journey began in 2006 under the visionary leadership of its Chairman/CEO, Prof. Polycarp Emenike, MON (Odenigbo), with a memorable maiden edition that saw Gabros International defeat Estate United at the Gabros Stadium, Nnewi. The enthusiasm that greeted the competition at inception was so remarkable that the then Anambra FA leadership, led by Chief Mike Umeh and Sir Victor Nwangwu, formally presented the sponsor and the trophy to then Governor Peter Obi at the Government House, Awka, an early signal of the tournament’s significance and prospect. From that moment, the Neros FA Cup took off “like a house on fire,” maintaining momentum across the state and gaining national attention.
What makes this achievement even more striking is the context. While notable brands like Cadbury Nigeria (Bournvita), Coca-Cola and Aiteo Group have at different times sponsored the national FA Cup, none sustained such support beyond a decade. At the state level, even strong institutions like Zenith Bank (in Delta State) only managed short-term sponsorships. Neros Pharmaceuticals, however, has remained steadfast for over two decades now and still counting, little wonder why such an uncommon endurance earned the company the prestigious award as the Best Sponsor of State FA Cup in Nigeria in 2012, a special award organised by Nigeria Sports Brands under the leadership of Aikhoje Ojeikere.
Beyond longevity, the Neros-sponsored competition has unarguably delivered unforgettable moments and quintessential impacts across the state beyond. By way of instance, the 2012 edition, widely regarded as the biggest State FA Cup final in Nigeria, drew over 15,000 spectators to Nanka. It featured a glamorous curtain-raiser involving Nigeria’s victorious Golden Eaglets team that went on to conquer the world in 2013, with stars like Kelechi Iheanacho and Taiwo Awoniyi, under the guidance of Manu Garba and Emmanuel Amuneke. The event also coincided with the formal opening of the Neros Sports Stadium, Nanka, further cementing the competition’s place in Nigeria’s football history.
Year after year, the Neros FA Cup has grown into more than just a tournament. With the latest structured prize incentives of ₦2 million for winners, ₦1 million for first runner-up, ₦500,000 for third place and ₦100,000 for fourth; the competition has provided both motivation and financial support for grassroots clubs, while also serving as a gateway to the national President Federation Cup. The competition has also become a dependable platform for talent discovery, human capital development, community-cum-social engagement, and football excellence in Anambra State.
The 2026 edition, whose final was played just yesterday on April 26 at the Neros Stadium, Nanka, lived up to expectations. There, the spectators were wowed as Edel FC secured a convincing 2–0 victory over Amanda FC to emerge champions and successfully defend their title.
Records from the stadium show how Solomon Ugwu opened scoring in the 45th minute, while Damian Udoye sealed the win in the 74th minute, handing Edel FC the ₦2 million prize. Amanda FC, impressive debutants, went home with N1 million as runners-up. Earlier, Game Changers FC defeated Obosi United FC 2–0 to clinch third place and ₦500,000, leaving Obosi United with the N100,000 fourth-place prize. Both finalists will now represent Anambra State at the national stage in the forthcoming 2026 President Federation Cup.
In these, perhaps the most compelling story is not just about who wins or loses, but about who has stayed. For twenty years, despite the changing economic realities and shifting corporate priorities, Neros Pharmaceuticals has remained committed to this cause, quietly but consistently underwriting a competition that has outlived many bigger and louder sponsorships. In doing so, the company has not only rewritten the narrative of sports sponsorship in Nigeria but has also set a benchmark that challenges both public and private institutions. Hence one may ask: If one company can sustain this level of impact for over two decades, what excuse do others have?
Indeed, by sustaining this for the past two decades, Neros has not just sponsored a competition, it has built a legacy, one that has etched the company's name on the golden stone of history, both for today and for the generations yet unborn.
The Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Prof. Daniel Nwachukwu, has moved to deepen industry-academia collaboration with a proposed partnership with Zobis Group.
Nwachukwu made this known during a courtesy visit to Zobis Electrical Wire and Cable Factory in Ogbaru Local Government Area, where discussions focused on practical training opportunities for students.
He said the initiative was aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.
“Education goes beyond the classroom. While academic knowledge lays the foundation, practical experience brings true understanding,” he said.
The vice-chancellor added that the partnership would enable students to gain hands-on exposure to engineering processes, equipping them with relevant skills for the labour market.
“With this collaboration, our students will be better prepared to thrive in their careers and meet industry expectations,” he stated.
In its remarks, Zobis Group said it was committed to supporting capacity development through the initiative.
The company noted that, “We are not only focused on producing quality products but also on investing in the future by empowering young minds and supporting practical learning that drives growth.”
The firm added that the collaboration would contribute to nurturing talent and strengthening Nigeria’s industrial workforce.
Zobis Cable Boss, Ezeobi Pays Coutesty Visit to Innoson, Highlights Industry Networking.
Chairman of John Zobis Group, Mr. John Ezeobi, has paid a courtesy visit to the founder of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, in a move that underscores growing engagement among indigenous manufacturers.
The visit, described as informal, provided an opportunity for interaction and knowledge-sharing between the two Anambra-based industrialists.
Speaking after the meeting, Ezeobi commended Chukwuma’s contributions to Nigeria’s manufacturing sector, particularly in the automotive industry.
According to him, “Innoson is a respected industrialist. It is always good to see people who have done well and tap from their knowledge.”
Industry analysts note that such engagements, even if informal, are important for strengthening professional networks and fostering experience-sharing among indigenous manufacturers.
The Nigerian manufacturing sector continues to face challenges including high production costs, foreign exchange volatility, and infrastructure deficits, making interactions between established and emerging industrialists increasingly relevant.
Observers say that knowledge-sharing visits like this can indirectly support capacity development, innovation, and competitiveness within local industries.
By connecting leading industry players, these informal meetings could help nurture a culture of collaboration and mentorship, which is critical for sustaining growth in the sector.
The visit also signals a growing trend among local entrepreneurs to engage with peers, exchange insights, and collectively reflect on strategies to improve the industrial environment in the South-East.
While primarily a courtesy call, it underscores the role of professional interactions in shaping the future of Nigeria’s manufacturing landscape.
How I Changed the Funeral Industry in Nigeria - Dr Kevin Chukwumobi (Apams)
Chief Dr. Kevin Chukwumobi, Nigeria’s foremost undertaker and CEO of Apams Funeral Limited, has reflected on his impressive journey of transforming the country’s funeral industry, turning what was once a rustic, chaotic affair into a modern, structured enterprise that now serves as a model across Africa.
Speaking in an interview, Dr. Chukwumobi recalled how funerals in Nigeria were previously riddled with disorder, exploitation, and undue stress for bereaved families.
In those days, he explained, arranging a burial meant navigating unreliable service providers, disorganized logistics, and cultural superstitions.
He also recalled that in those days, most families often faced deception from hearse operators who claimed that the deceased/the corpse “refused to go home”, just as a means of extorting money from the bereaved family under the guise of performing one or two things to make the corpse go home.
According to him, these and others were the realities Apams Funeral Ltd changed by venturing into burial undertaking services.
He said he changed the narrative by professionalizing key aspects of funeral management, both from ambulances and caskets to grave-lowering devices, all for a primary purpose of creating a one-stop structure that relieved mourners and bereaved families of unnecessary burdens.
Dr. Chukwumobi noted that, today, instead of scrambling for caskets or struggling to find reliable handlers, bereaved families can simply walk into any of Apams’ casket centers or offices nationwide to access ready services.
Before Apams, he recalled, families and mourners often became sick from the physical and emotional stress of managing burial arrangements, but now, with Apams and its well-organized packages, families can only focus on mourning and remembrance rather than logistics.
According to him, the company has also revolutionized corpse transportation, enabling families to fly loved ones home from cities like Lagos and Abuja within minutes, a process, he said, previously took grueling road journeys.
The Apams CEO said another landmark innovation of the company was the introduction of mechanical lowering devices, which ended years of exploitation by local youths who charged exorbitant amounts of money from mourners to lower caskets into graves. These innovations, he emphasized, were not only about convenience but about dignity, decency, and giving families peace of mind at their most vulnerable moments.
“Virtually every modern innovation you see in today’s burial practices was pioneered by Apams,” he reflected, noting that the transformation has also opened up numerous job opportunities and professionalized an industry once regarded with fear and disdain.
Concluding, Dr. Chukwumobi said the story of Apams was one of vision, resilience, and service, describing it as a revolution that has forever changed how Nigerians bury their dead and loved ones.

Zobis Cable, Federal Fire Service Partner To Promote Safety Standards
In furtherance of its commitment to national safety standards, strategic partnership and industrial excellence, the Management of the Zobis Group of Companies (makers of Zobis Cables and Wires), has visited the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service of Nigeria, Engr. S. A. Olumode, to explore strategic initiatives towards curbing the rising incidence of fire outbreaks across the country.
The courtesy visit by the Zobis Management Team, which held at the Fire Service Headquarters in Abuja, was led by the Managing Director of Zobis Cable Nigeria Ltd., Mr. Alozie Louis Thaddeus.
The high-level visit and engagement, it was gathered, was anchored on shared concerns over the alarming rate of fire disasters nationwide and the devastating human, economic and infrastructural losses associated with them; while also providing a platform for both institutions to align perspectives and chart a collaborative pathway towards addressing one of Nigeria’s most persistent safety challenges — fire incident.
According to figures referenced during the visit, over 70 percent of fire outbreaks happening in Nigeria are linked to adulterated cables, poor-quality electrical materials, unprofessional installations and inadequate maintenance practices, which have all continued to endanger lives and property across homes, offices and industrial facilities nationwide.
Consequently, both parties explored avenues for a collaborative framework that would deepen public awareness of electrical safety, promote strict compliance with global quality standards, and jointly advocate against the proliferation of counterfeit electrical products. Their discussions also reflect a shared resolve to tackle the alarming trend of adulterated cables in the market, an issue that not only fuels fire disasters but also erodes consumer confidence in locally manufactured goods.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Zobis Cable Nigeria Ltd., Mr. Alozie, while stating the purpose of the visit, emphasized the need for urgent, coordinated and sustained action involving regulators, safety agencies, manufacturers and the general public. He expressed serious concern over how the unchecked circulation of counterfeit electrical products has not only undermined safety standards but has also eroded public confidence and increased avoidable risks in both urban and rural communities.
Consequently, he proposed strategic collaboration with the Federal Fire Service, aimed at supporting and reinforcing regulatory reforms for the purpose of eliminating substandard electrical materials from the market. This, he noted, will include coordinated advocacy campaigns across the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to educate consumers, encourage quality compliance, and highlight the dangers posed by uncertified products.
While re-emphasizing Zobis Group’s commitment to leveraging its industry influence to ensure that certified products reach every segment of the Nigerian market; he also reiterated the company's readiness to work hand-in-hand with government agencies and other relevant institutions to support policy implementation that protects citizens and enhances national infrastructure resilience.
Responding, the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Engr. Olumode, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely, strategic and constructive move toward addressing safety challenges.
Acknowledging the rising trend in fire incidents linked to faulty electrical installations, the Fire Service Controller also noted that the Service had continued to grapple with the consequences of electrical-related fires, many of which could have been prevented through the use of certified and standards products and adherence to proper installation standards. He therefore stressed the importance of such industry partnerships in educating the public and enforcing compliance with safety codes and standards.
According to him, prevention remains the most effective approach to fire safety, and collaboration with credible manufacturers and relevant stakeholders is critical to achieving such lasting results.
Both sides agreed on the need for sustained engagement with stakeholders across public and private sectors, including manufacturers, distributors, regulators and consumers, to reduce avoidable fires and build a culture of safety. Plans were also discussed for joint outreach programs, training sessions for artisan installers, and community-level sensitization campaigns that emphasize certified products and professional installation practices.
This proposed alliance is coming at a time when Zobis Group is enjoying heightened recognition for its leadership, excellence and industrial impact.
Recall that recently, the Chairman of Zobis Electrical Wires and Cables, Chief John Ezeobi, was honoured with the 2025 Sun Industrialist of the Year Award, in recognition of his contributions to quality manufacturing, job creation and the advancement of Nigeria’s industrial value chain. The award was presented during a high-profile ceremony attended by national leaders, corporate icons and industry executives, and positioned Zobis as one of the youngest and fastest-rising industrial brands in the country’s manufacturing sector.
In another notable recognition, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) recently honoured Mr. Ezeobi with the Pillar of Industrial Enterprise and National Impact Award, specifically celebrating his commitment to local sourcing, backward integration and strengthening domestic production capacity, which are achievements that have been critical in reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imports and fostering sustainable growth.
Zobis Electrical Wires and Cable Nigeria Ltd., a subsidiary of the John Zobis Group, has also gained commendation from the House of Representatives Committee on Local Content for its adherence to the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act and its deployment of advanced production technologies that align with national industrial priorities. During a recent oversight visit, the committee reaffirmed that Zobis is a model of Nigerian ingenuity and industrial resilience, capable of meeting technical demands across various sectors including energy, construction, manufacturing, and beyond.

Chairman/CEO of Emeka Bishop Enterprises, Chief Emeka Onyenanu, KSC, described the award as recognition of Chief Ezeobi’s role in giving Nigerian industrialists a good name through the production of world-class cables for both local and West African markets.
Also reacting, Chairman of Valid Dreams Ltd, Chief John Anichukwu, said the recognition mirrors years of disciplined effort and clear thinking, adding that Chief Ezeobi’s journey continues to set a standard worthy of respect.
To the Chairman of Mekens Nigeria Ltd, High Chief Sir (Dr.) Anthony Ikenna Obele, the award acknowledges a career built on long-term value, standards, systems and consistency, noting that Chief Ezeobi’s influence has strengthened confidence in local manufacturing and industrial sustainability.
PROTEGO Plastic Recycling Revolution Begins in Calabar
A new chapter in Nigeria’s environmental sustainability drive has opened in Cross River State as the PROTEGO (Prevention of Marine Litter in the Gulf of Guinea) project officially commenced operations in Calabar, with a clear mandate to clean up the Beach Market, Nsidung axis of the state capital and convert plastic waste into wealth while also restoring environmental sanity.
The project, being implemented by Lumos Laboratories Nigeria Limited, is primarily focused on the conversion of plastic waste into interlocking tiles and construction bricks, alongside extensive sensitisation and training empowerment of youths and women within and beyond the host community. The initiative, it was gathered, is designed to address the growing challenge of plastic pollution (particularly its leakage into marine environments), while also creating economic opportunities for local residents.
Confirming the development to newsmen, the Founder of Lumos Laboratories and lead innovator on the project, Mr. Ejikeme Nwosu, explained that the decision to expand PROTEGO’s activities to Calabar was both strategic and urgent, given the city’s proximity to the coastline and the scale of plastic waste leakage into the marine environment from major markets such as Beach Market, Nsidung.
According to him, Calabar presents a critical hotspot where intervention can deliver immediate environmental impact while also empowering local communities. He noted that the project is not only about waste collection but about creating value from waste, restoring dignity to the environment, and building a sustainable system that benefits both people and nature.
Mr. Nwosu disclosed that a unique feature of the PROTEGO project in Calabar is its integrated approach to energy generation, stressing that a substantial portion of the clean energy required for the recycling process will be generated directly from biodegradable waste sourced from the same market environment. This, he said, will drastically reduce dependence on fossil fuels while addressing open defecation and indiscriminate waste disposal within the community.
He further explained that the project is expected to significantly reduce plastic waste leakage into the marine ecosystem, improve sanitation standards around the Beach Market axis, and create a replicable model that can be deployed in other coastal cities across Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea region.
Mr. Nwosu added that PROTEGO is equally prioritising human capacity development, revealing that youths and women in the Nsidung-Calabar community will be sensitised and trained on plastic waste collection, processing, and conversion techniques. He noted that this approach is aimed at fostering community ownership of the project, creating sustainable livelihoods, and ensuring long-term behavioural change in waste management practices.
Concerning expectations, the Lumos Laboratories Founder stated that beyond environmental restoration, the Calabar project is designed to stimulate local micro-economies, reduce unemployment, and demonstrate that waste, when properly managed, can become a driver of economic growth rather than a public nuisance. He assured that strict quality, safety, and environmental standards would be adhered to throughout the project’s implementation.
PROTEGO (Prevention of Marine Litter in the Gulf of Guinea) is a multinational environmental initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety under its Grant Programme against Marine Litter. The project seeks to significantly reduce plastic pollution in marine environments in Nigeria and Ghana through innovative recycling solutions, strengthened policy frameworks, and increased public awareness.
The project is led by adelphi research gGmbH in collaboration with a consortium of local and international partners, integrating waste prevention, collection, recycling, and pilot innovations aimed at protecting marine ecosystems across West Africa.
This reporter gathered that the Calabar expansion builds on the earlier milestones recorded under the PROTEGO framework.

Zobis Cable Boss Bags Prestigious Sun Industrialist of the Year Award
Chairman,John Zobis Group, Chief John Ezeobi, has once again etched his name in gold in Nigeria’s industrial history, having been honoured with the prestigious 2025 Sun Industrialist of the Year Award, an honour reserved for individuals whose contributions have significantly shaped the nation’s economic and manufacturing landscape.
The high-profile recognition was conferred on Chief Ezeobi during the award ceremony held over the weekend at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, where captains of industry, political leaders, community rulers, senior government officials, clergy, and other distinguished personalities converged to celebrate excellence, resilience, and uncommon achievement across different sectors of national life.
According to reports, Chief Ezeobi’s emergence as Industrialist of the Year stood out significantly, not only because of the calibre of past recipients of the award, but also due to his age and the speed with which he has built a formidable industrial brand. He is one of the youngest Nigerian ever to be honoured as Industrialist of the Year by The Sun Newspaper, as well as the youngest indigene of Anambra State to receive the award, a feat that has further cemented his reputation as one of the most dynamic young industrial figures of his generation.
The award recognised his visionary leadership and sustained contributions to Nigeria’s economy through manufacturing, particularly in the cable production industry, where the Zobis Group has grown into a major player, providing locally manufactured products, creating employment opportunities, and contributing to the reduction of import dependence in critical industrial materials.
Presenting the award, the Chairman of United Nigeria Air, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, commended Chief Ezeobi’s courage and noted that Ezeobi’s achievements are a source of pride not only to Anambra State and the South-East, but to Nigeria as a whole, stressing that the country needs more entrepreneurs of his kind to drive sustainable economic growth.
Earlier in his address of welcome, the Managing Director of Sun Publishing Limited, Mr. Onuoha Ukeh, described Zobis and other awardees as uncommon achievers who refused to be constrained by the limitations of a developing economy. He noted that the honourees distinguished themselves by taking bold risks, confronting challenges head-on, and carving out paths of success through resilience, discipline, and innovation.
Also speaking, the Founder of The Sun Publishing and former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, reiterated that The Sun was conceived as a public trust and has remained apolitical in its editorial and award processes. He emphasised that the Newspaper belongs to the Nigerian people and that its awards are guided strictly by merit, credibility, and national interest.
Reacting shortly after receiving the award, Chief Ezeobi expressed profound gratitude to The Sun Newspaper for recognising his efforts, describing the honour as both humbling and inspiring. He pledged to remain steadfast in his commitment to industrial excellence, innovation, and national development, noting that the recognition would further spur him to do more for the country. He dedicated the award to his family, the management and staff of John Zobis Group, whom he described as tireless partners in progress, and to hardworking Nigerians whose daily struggles and resilience continue to motivate his entrepreneurial journey.
Widely regarded as a dominant force in Nigeria’s cable manufacturing industry, Chief Ezeobi is often described as the youngest industrialist in the sector in Africa. As founder of John Zobis Group, a fast-growing conglomerate with strong interests in cable manufacturing, construction, and oil and gas, he has consistently demonstrated a strong belief in local production, capacity building, and long-term value creation. Under his leadership, the group has continued to expand its operational footprint while maintaining a reputation for quality, innovation, and reliability.
The 2025 Sun Awards ceremony also celebrated several prominent Nigerians across politics, governance, business, traditional institutions, and religion. Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Peter Mbah, emerged as Man of the Year, while the governors of Kano, Cross River, Oyo, and Zamfara states were honoured as Governors of the Year for their leadership and governance strides.
Other award recipients included the Olubadan of Ibadan, HM. Senator Rashidi Ladoja, and the revered traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Orizu. The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Yemi Cardoso, and Senator Solomon Adeola were also recognised as Man of the Year respectively, while the Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibril Barau, and respected clerics such as Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah and Bishop Mike Okonkwo received honours for their contributions in their respective fields. Her Excellency, Barrister Chioma Uzodimma, was also named First Lady of the Year.
Chaired by the Chairman of Air Peace, Barrister Allen Onyema, the ceremony, which attracted dignitaries from across the country, reinforced the credibility of the Sun Awards as one of Nigeria’s most respected platforms for celebrating excellence.

Anambra Hospital Honours Entrepreneur Who "Secretly" Assists Indigent Patients.
The Management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka, has honoured a real estate entrepreneur, Mr. Ekweoba Arnold Chukwuebuka, with its 2025 Humanitarian Award for sustained support to indigent and medically vulnerable patients.
The award was presented on Thursday at the hospital during a ceremony attended by management staff and invited guests, where Ekweoba was singled out for his consistent humanitarian interventions, particularly in assisting patients who are unable to meet the cost of medical care.
Presenting the award, the hospital management said the recognition was based on Ekweoba’s quiet but impactful support, which has helped ease the burden of medical bills for several patients over time.
In a nomination letter dated November 5, 2025, and signed by the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Agbai Henrietta, the management noted that the award was meant to give honour to whom honour is due adding that Ekweoba’s interventions have repeatedly brought relief to patients facing life-threatening health and financial challenges.
Ekweoba, an Aguleri-born entrepreneur, is the Chief Executive Officer of Arnold Associates, a real estate and consultancy firm with interests in enterprise development and related services.
The hospital noted that beyond his business engagements, he has maintained a track record of humanitarian support spanning health, education and emergency assistance.
Reacting to the award, Ekweoba, who was represented by his Executive Assistant, Mr. Mark Ngozi, expressed appreciation to the hospital management for the honour.
“Supporting the sick and the less privileged is not an act of charity but a shared human responsibility. This recognition only strengthens my resolve to do more, even when such efforts do not attract public attention,” he said.
The management said the recognition underscores the hospital’s commitment to celebrating individuals whose contributions directly impact human survival and dignity.
The MD/CEO of John Zobis Group, Mr. John Ezeobi, has again been honoured with another major industry prize in recognition of his contributions to local sourcing, innovation and the growth of Nigeria’s manufacturing capacity.
The prestigious award, “Pillar of Industrial Enterprise and National Impact,” which was conferred on him by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) — Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu Zone, was presented during the association’s 37th Annual General Meeting, Awards & Gala Night at the International Conference Centre, Enugu.
This is coming barely three weeks after Ezeobi was nominated as the winner of The Sun’s Industrialist of the Year Award 2025 by the Management of The Sun Newspaper, a run of recognition that has further highlighted his rising profile in the South-East manufacturing ecosystem.
The latest award, it was gathered, celebrates Ezeobi’s deliberate investment in backward integration, his push for local sourcing of raw materials and efforts to strengthen domestic value chains, which MAN described as essential to reducing import dependence and creating jobs across the region.
Chaired by Chief Obinna Iyiegbu (Obi Cubana), the well-attended occasion, themed “Exploring Opportunities for Backward Integration and Local Sourcing of Raw Materials for the Manufacturing Sector,” brought together regulators, policymakers, manufacturers and industry stakeholders and also featured presentations, panel sessions and cultural performances, among other highlights.
Speaking at the event, the Keynote Speaker and Director-General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, said the economic benefits of exploring Opportunities for backward integration and local sourcing of raw materials for the Manufacturing sector cannot be overemphasized.
Prof. Ike-Muonso told delegates that Nigeria spent over ₦3.53 trillion importing raw materials in the first half of 2025 alone, warning that such dependence continues to weaken the nation’s economy. He further argued that the proposed 30% Value Addition Bill, which would require a minimum local value addition before export, would be transformational if signed into law.
He also outlined the bill’s potential to expand GDP, generate hundreds of thousands of jobs and save foreign exchange by keeping more of the country’s raw-material wealth in domestic supply chains, boost local manufacturing, and generally reposition Nigeria as a regional industrial hub.
On his own part, the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, endorsed the call for stronger industry-academia partnerships and urged financial institutions to make affordable credit available to manufacturers who adopt backward integration. The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai, described the policy pathway as key to moving Nigeria from resource export dependence toward higher-value industrial output.
Reacting via his social handle shortly after receiving the award, the Zobis Cable Boss expressed gratitude for the honour, describing it as a strong motivation to do more in driving local production, reducing import dependence, and strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base.
Ezeobi, who received the plaque from pioneer Nollywood star and legal practitioner, Barr. Kenneth Okonkwo, attested that the AGM provided a critical platform for renewed commitment to backward integration as a pathway to sustainable industrial development.
“The event highlighted the critical importance of backward integration and local sourcing of raw materials as strategic levers for strengthening domestic production, reducing import dependency, and building resilient, self-sustaining industries. A meaningful platform for driving progress and collaboration across Nigeria’s manufacturing sector,” he partly wrote.
Also speaking, the Chairman of MAN for the Anambra-Ebonyi-Enugu zone, Dr. Adaora Chukwudozie, described local sourcing as the pragmatic route to lowering production costs and stabilizing supply chains for SMEs and larger manufacturers alike. She welcomed RMRDC’s roadmap and invited state governments to partner in establishing raw-material corridors and shared processing facilities that would bring inputs closer to factories.

How I Struck Fortune From Cleaning, Handled Over 10,000 Jobs- SomTee
Ten years ago, what began as a humble side hustle under a staircase has grown into one of Nigeria’s most recognizable indigenous brands in the professional cleaning and facility-management sector. Today, SomTee Global Integrated Services Ltd, popularly known as SomTee Cleaning, stands tall as a model of innovation, discipline, and resilience in entrepreneurship.
In a commemorative interview to mark the firm’s tenth anniversary, its Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Somto Henry Ezeaniomenyi, reflected on his journey, the struggles, the turning points, and the vision propelling the brand forward.
According to him, cleaning was not a career he deliberately chose; it was something that chose him. “To be honest, cleaning discovered me,” he admitted, recalling how it all started in 2014 as a school-break side hustle that soon became a passion. What began with basic tools stored under a staircase evolved into an inspiring enterprise rooted in purpose, order, and dignity.
By 2018, Somto’s small hustle had grown enough for him to secure his first office, a milestone he described as proof that his work was no longer a random activity but a real business. The COVID-19 lockdown of 2021 became another defining moment. Instead of pausing, he invested time in learning and mastering the science and art of cleaning, a phase that deepened his conviction that “cleaning had chosen” him.
Before this breakthrough, he had tried various ventures, including serving as a hypeman and DJ, selling T-shirts and face caps, making shawarma, painting, and doing interior decoration. Yet, none resonated with him as much as cleaning. “Cleaning became my calling,” he said, adding that it gave him identity, structure, and a lifelong mission to redefine what professionalism means in the industry.
Somto admitted that the early days were far from easy. Starting from Onitsha, he said he faced ridicule and disbelief from people who saw cleaning only as a menial job. “People made mockery of me,” he recalled. “Some of my mates avoided me.” Clients were scarce, jobs were seasonal, and the absence of financial backing meant he often relied purely on passion and resourcefulness. But every satisfied client rekindled his determination to keep going.
A major turning point, according to him, came in 2021 when fate brought him in contact with his mentor and role model, Dr. Stanley Uzochukwu, Chief Executive Officer of Stanel Group and Delborough Hotel Lagos. That relationship, he said, changed everything. “That was my turning point. He believed in me and gave me the platform to work for him.” From there, SomTee began handling high-profile projects, including post-construction cleaning for luxury estates and corporate facilities, the kind of visibility that repositioned the brand in the national spotlight.
He gives all glory to God for sustaining the company and expresses gratitude to his loyal team members, his supportive family, and his clients who trusted him when others doubted.
In the course of ten years, SomTee Cleaning has worked on several notable projects, including large-scale contracts for Mikano International, Cube 65, Delborough Hotel Lagos, Clinix, and the Anambra State Government, among others. Of all these, the post-construction cleaning of Delborough Hotel in Lagos remains particularly special to him. “That project gave birth to SomTee Lagos,” he said, describing it as the company’s gateway into the commercial capital.
For Somto, success is not measured only in profit but in people. He considers his greatest achievement to be transforming SomTee Cleaning into SomTee Global, a respected institution that dignifies cleaning as a career and creates opportunities for young Nigerians.
“We’ve trained and empowered young people, created jobs, and inspired others to start their own cleaning ventures,” he proudly declared.
What makes SomTee stand out, according to him, is its blend of professionalism and passion. The company, he reveals, invests heavily in staff training, quality control, and eco-friendly products while ensuring that both small and large clients enjoy the same level of excellence. “At SomTee, we don’t chase clients; we build trust,” he emphasized. “That’s why our clients stay with us.”
The entrepreneur revealed that the past decade has taught him valuable lessons in patience, resilience, and people management. He has learned that building a sustainable business takes time, structure, and direction, not just speed. “Some people say, ‘Ten years and you’re still here?’ My answer is simple: we’re just getting started.”
Looking ahead, Somto said the future of SomTee Global lies in global expansion, innovation, and system balancing. The company, according to him, currently has six subsidiaries — SomTee Cleaning, SomTee Stores, Silent Shield Pest Control, Event Care by SomTee, SomTee Training Academy, and SomTee Kleen Products, which produces the firm’s proprietary line of cleaning and scenting agents. He said plans are also underway to integrate smart cleaning technologies and expand operations across more Nigerian cities, other African countries, and eventually into Europe.
He envisions a future where SomTee becomes synonymous with cleanliness, professionalism, and sustainability, becoming a household name that embodies excellence.
Somto is also a proud member of the Prime Environment Cleaners Association (PECNA), a fast-growing network of new-generation cleaning practitioners championing professionalism in Nigeria’s cleaning industry. Through PECNA and SomTee’s own initiatives, he aims to continue advocating environmental responsibility and empowerment for cleaners across Africa.
His ultimate goal , he further revealed, is to redefine how Africa perceives cleaning, to make them stop seeing it as a menial job, but as a science, an art, and a career of dignity.
“My dream is that when people talk about the evolution of Nigeria’s cleaning industry, the name SomTee stands as a beacon of change, excellence, and empowerment for generations to come,” he concluded.
After ten years of grit and growth, SomTee Cleaning has indeed become more than a brand. It has also been viewed as a movement that has transformed spaces, created jobs, restored dignity, and inspired an entire industry. And for its founder, this first decade is only the beginning.
“Data, Not Crude Oil, Will Power Nigeria’s Next Prosperity” – Chidoka
Awka, Nigeria – November 14, 2025
Former Minister of Aviation and Chancellor of the Athena Centre, Chief Osita Chidoka, OFR, has said Nigeria’s future prosperity will be shaped by the knowledge it produces and the data it manages—not the oil beneath its soil.
Chidoka made this known on Tuesday, November 11, while delivering the keynote address at the 3rd International Hybrid Conference and Annual Lecture of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, titled “From Resources to Prosperity: The Role of the Physical Sciences in Managing Nigeria’s Future.”
He stated that data has overtaken crude oil as the world’s most valuable asset, noting that societies that invest in scientific thinking now shape global innovation and economic power.
Drawing from his experience transforming the Federal Road Safety Corps into a data-driven organisation, Chidoka said nations fail not because they lack resources but because “they do not measure, monitor, and manage those resources scientifically. Without data, abundance becomes chaos.”
He warned that as the world enters the Age of Artificial Intelligence, Nigeria must understand the march of history: every epoch of human progress—from the Enlightenment to the Industrial Revolution, through the Internet Age—was driven by science, and those who failed to adapt were left behind. “This is the Age of Intelligence—an era where algorithms, not pipelines, will determine prosperity,” he said.
Chidoka positioned universities as the frontline institutions that will determine Africa’s place in this new age. He commended UNIZIK’s Faculty of Physical Sciences for advancing scientific education in the Southeast and described its Science Village project as a strategic platform for converting research into real industrial value.
He called for a national shift from resource dependence to a culture of scientific discipline anchored on M²I — measure, monitor, improve, insisting that only data-driven governance can convert Nigeria’s potential into progress.
“The world no longer rewards nations for what lies beneath their soil, but for what lies between their ears,” he declared. “Our future will not be imported; it will be invented.”

Apams@55: Why Nigerians Are Scared of Funeral Undertakers — Apams CEO
Nigeria’s foremost funeral undertaker and Chief Executive Officer of Apams Funeral Limited, Dr. Kevin Chukwumobi, has shed light on the reasons many Nigerians dread funeral directors and the industry at large.
Speaking to newsmen as part of activities marking his 55th birthday celebration, Dr. Chukwumobi explained that the fear associated with undertakers in Nigeria stems largely from a mindset problem, similar to the fear Nigerians once had for certain other professions.
He recalled how, in the past, people were “dead scared” of lawyers, with unfounded rumors that lawyers belonged to secret cults and engaged in mysterious practices. The same, he noted, applies to wealthy individuals, whom many Nigerians often suspect of being ritualists, regardless of how they made their money. According to him, undertakers, by virtue of their profession, have been unfairly cast in the same fearful light.
Dr. Chukwumobi, however, emphasized that this perception is a product of ignorance and lack of exposure. He pointed out that in advanced societies such as the United States and the United Kingdom, undertakers are held in high regard and respected for their professional services, rather than feared or stigmatized.
“Why are Nigerians scared of almost everything?” he rhetorically asked, stating that “Nigerians are scared of butterflies, cockroaches, birds, and wild cats and even ordinary cats. They’re afraid of wealthy people, of lawyers, and of doctors too. So, it’s no surprise they’re afraid of burial undertakers.”
He, however, reminded Nigerians that no country develops when its young people are full of fear for everything, because they cannot dare and explore new opportunities.
The Apams Boss insisted that there is absolutely nothing to fear about his line of business, which he described as an “event business” that provides dignity, order, and value to one of life’s inevitable realities. He further highlighted the huge economic potential of the funeral industry, noting that it is an untapped sector that can provide meaningful employment opportunities for Nigerians, especially the youth.
Charging the younger generation to change their perception, Dr. Chukwumobi advised them to seek knowledge, unlearn false beliefs, and embrace new ways of thinking that would enable them to harness opportunities rather than shy away from them out of fear.
Reflecting on his personal journey, the veteran undertaker described himself as a fulfilled man at 55, expressing gratitude to God for granting him the vision to start Apams, the strength to sustain it, and the grace to make his name a household one in Nigeria even in his early 30s.
He noted that the Apams brand, now synonymous with class and excellence in funeral management across the country, is the product of hard work, consistency, and divine guidance. According to him, his 55th birthday is not just a personal milestone but also a celebration of a vision that transformed an entire industry.
