CrimeAnambra Police Arrest Man For Masterminding Friend’s Kidnap, Collecting Ransom by AnambraPeople(op): 12:17pm On Jun 29, 2025
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Muonenye Chekwube Victor, for allegedly masterminding the kidnapping of his friend and collecting ransom in dollars equivalent to over five million naira.

According to the police, Victor was apprehended by operatives attached to the Uli Divisional Headquarters on the evening of June 26, 2025. Investigations revealed that Victor lured his friend under the guise of visiting another acquaintance, then conspired with his criminal gang to kidnap him. To avoid suspicion, Victor allegedly staged his own abduction alongside the victim.

The gang reportedly collected ransom in foreign currency equivalent to 5.3 million naira before releasing the victim. During interrogation, Victor confessed to planning the operation and is now cooperating with the police to help track down his accomplices.

Police authorities say the suspect will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded. The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its commitment to improving safety and security across the state.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued from the Command headquarters in Awka on June.

PoliticsAnambra’s Okey Nwosu Out, David Mark In As ADC National Chairman by AnambraPeople(op): 7:13pm On Jun 28, 2025
In a major political shift, former Senate President Senator David Mark has been appointed as the Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—a strategic move aimed at repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development marks the end of an era for Chief Okey Ralph Nwosu, founding member and long-serving national chairman of the party, who has led the ADC through its formative years and various electoral cycles.

Senator Mark, a seasoned statesman and respected political figure, is expected to bring a wealth of experience, credibility, and renewed direction to the party’s leadership. His appointment signals the ADC’s readiness to play a more prominent role in shaping the future of Nigeria’s democracy.

The official unveiling of Senator Mark as chairman is scheduled for Wednesday next week in Abuja, with party stakeholders, national executives, and members of the media expected to be in attendance.

Reacting to the development, Chief Nwosu neither confirmed nor denied Mark’s appointment but acknowledged that the ADC is currently undergoing a leadership transition. He assured that the party would issue an official statement in the coming days to clarify its new leadership structure.

Nwosu also lauded Senator Mark’s record of service, describing him as a patriotic figure capable of bringing focus and stability to the ADC as it works to reposition itself as a credible platform for visionary leadership.

Despite his new role, Senator Mark remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has yet to formally announce a switch to the ADC. His involvement comes as opposition parties intensify coalition talks aimed at mounting a formidable challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.

PoliticsTinubu Confers GCON Title On Afreximbank Boss, Okey Oramah. by AnambraPeople(op): 7:17am On Jun 28, 2025
Tinubu confers GCON title on Afreximbank Boss, Okey Oramah.

President Bola Tinubu Friday in Abuja conferred the national honour, Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), on President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of African Export-Import Bank, Benedict Oramah, for his outstanding contributions to development of Africa, particularly prioritising Nigeria’s interests.

The president gave the surprise recognition to Mr Oramah at the 32nd Annual Meetings of the Bank, appreciating his leadership role in expanding trade on the continent by leveraging opportunities, integrating and streamlining payment systems, and facilitating development projects for both the private and public sectors.

“Today is your day, Prof Oramah. I have listened to the accounts and reports you read eloquently, which also consist of lessons for us, your friends.

“I have the honour and privilege of conferring on you one of the highest recognitions of our country, Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON),” he said.

President Tinubu noted that this year’s meeting theme—”Building the Future on Decades of Resilience”—was timely and profound.

“Afrexim Bank, under Professor Benedict Oramah’s steadfast leadership, has grown its assets from $5 billion to over $37 billion. His decade of leadership saw the Bank champion Africa’s pandemic response, drive industrialisation, and support the AfCFTA and the continent’s creative economy. His legacy is one of generational impact,” he added.

Mr Oramah, who was one of the pioneering leaders of the institution in 1993, served as President/Chairman of the Bank for ten years, with record interventions in facilitating funds for 400 million vaccines to halt spread of Covid-19 in Africa, supporting agricultural development, healthcare projects and energy, including the Dangote Refinery.

Mr Tinubu noted that Nigeria benefited from more than $52 billion in support from the Afrexim Bank.

“Nigeria has proudly benefited from over 52 billion dollars in support, directed into energy, agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing, healthcare, and creative industries. Flagship projects such as the Dangote and BUA Refineries, the African Medical Centre of Excellence, and the Africa Quality Assurance Centre embody confidence in Nigeria’s future and Africa’s potential".

The president said Afrexim Bank was born from Africa’s resolve to own its development since 1993, with over $250 billion mobilised for trade and development and $140 billion in the last decade alone.

In his remarks, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, thanked the president for approving hosting the 32nd annual meeting in Abuja.

Mr Edun thanked Afrexim Bank for opening the African Trade Centre in Abuja, an excellent global medical centre, and supporting the private sector.

Presenting his ten-year report, Mr Oramah said, “I gave the job the best of my energy, talent and intellect.”

He said over $120 billion was invested in Africa in 2020 and commended shareholders for reinvesting 50-70 per cent of their $1.35 billion dividend in the bank.

Mr Oramah projected a $250 billion growth for the bank in the next ten years, following the institutionalisation of corporate governance that had earned trust.

The event was attended by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Ado, former President of Senegal, Machy Sall, former President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou, and former Vice Presidents, Namadi Sambo and Yemi Osinabjo.

BusinessWhy Innoson Motors Sued Imo State Government. by AnambraPeople(op): 3:09am On Jun 25, 2025
Why Innoson motors sued Imo State Government.

Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing Company Ltd has filed a lawsuit against the Imo State Government, led by Governor Hope Uzodinma, over a debt of N2,547,666,435.00 (approximately $6.3 million).

The debt represents the purchase price of various IVM vehicles and parts supplied to the state government.

The company supplied the vehicles to the Imo State Government based on an understanding that payment would be made after delivery.

Despite this agreement, the government has failed to pay or service the debt, prompting Innoson to seek legal action.

The lawsuit, filed at the High Court of Anambra State, Nnewi Division, claims N2.5 billion with a 10% interest rate on the entirety of the sum claimed.

Innoson’s Corporate Communications Head, Cornel Osigwe, stated that the company has been attempting to recover the debt from the government without success, leaving no choice but to resort to litigation.

The debt has significantly affected Innoson’s financial situation, making it challenging for the company to fulfill its loan repayment obligations to banks.

The value of the debt has also depreciated by over 40% due to delayed payment.

Innoson is determined to recover the debt, and the company has begun the process of collecting its debts from the Imo State Government.

The lawsuit aims to secure the payment of the debt with accrued interest.

The case is currently ongoing at the High Court of Anambra State, Nnewi Division. Innoson is seeking justice and a prompt resolution to the matter, hoping to recover the substantial debt owed to them by the Imo State Government.

Technology MarketAnambra Business Mogul, Ken Nwabueze Launches New Telecom Company. by AnambraPeople(op): 4:01pm On Jun 22, 2025
Anambra Business Mogul, Ken Nwabueze Launches New Telecom Company.

Anambra Business Mogul, High Chief Ken Nwabueze has launched Nigeria’s first Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) , Vitel Wireless.

The telecom Company which has received a dedicated number series (0712) from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has equally announced the successful completion of interconnectivity with all major Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in Nigeria.

A Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) is a company that provides mobile phone services without owning the physical network infrastructure.

MVNOs lease network capacity from traditional mobile network operators (MNOs) and resell it to customers under their own brand.

Unlike traditional MNOs, MVNOs don't invest in building and maintaining cell towers, base stations, or other network equipment.

Recently, the NCC’s licensed 46 MVNOs and Vitel Wireless is leading the way in the sector.

The company has already achieved several historic firsts: the first MVNO issued a numbering plan and national and international routing codes, the first to launch a location awareness network in Africa, and the first to unveil a strategic nationwide rollout plan.

Achieving interconnectivity will enable subscribers to make and receive calls with users on MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Globacom (Glo), and 9mobile Nigeria. According to stakeholders in the industry, this marks the first time an MVNO in the country has successfully interconnected with all the major MNOs, setting a new precedent for Nigeria’s telecom sector.

To Ken Nwabueze, Founder of Vitel Wireless,“We are gathering momentum for our big launch. We are proud to be showing what’s possible for MVNOs, while also creating a path for others to follow. By leveraging our years of experience in Nigeria’s telecom industry, we are opening up new possibilities where there used to be none. We wish to thank the regulatory agency, the Nigerian Communications Commission, for their timely interventions and guidance, which were instrumental in achieving this interconnectivity and bringing the formal launch of the Vitel Wireless nationwide network one step closer to reality.”

Interconnectivity was achieved through a combination of direct fiber connections with some MNOs and indirect routing via third-party providers. This milestone was the result of a collaborative effort involving engineers from Vitel Wireless, Wireless Technology Labs.

Ken Nwabueze is a respected high Chief from Ogidi in Anambra State. Ken served as the former Special Advisor , to Former American President George Bush.

He's the founder of Residency hotels based in Enugu, Abuja, Lagos, Anambra and Rivers State.

HealthMy Battle With Cancer At 28 -gloria Udeze by AnambraPeople(op): 3:54pm On Jun 22, 2025
My Battle With cancer at 28 -Gloria Udeze

Gloria Udeze narrates her battle with cancer which started in 2021 when she was just 25 years.

Where are you from?

I’m from Anambra State, and I studied Education/Political Science at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Can you take us to the moment you were first diagnosed with cancer?

I was first diagnosed with cancer towards the end of February 2022; I was 25 years old. The moment was not peaceful because I cried and became devastated. I asked God, ‘Why? Is it because of my sins?’ Many things came to my mind, and I was depressed.

I cried all through the week, and at some point, I realised that crying wasn’t going to solve the problem. So, I went to the hospital and started my treatment. It was the worst day of my life because I never expected to be diagnosed with cancer at 25 years old.

What symptoms or signs led you to seek medical attention before the diagnosis?

Earlier in 2019, before I was diagnosed, I noticed a lump on my breast, so I went to the hospital, and it was removed. They said it was fibro-abnormal, and after it was removed, everything healed up. But the first spot where I found the lump still had the growth, and it looked as if it had not been removed at all.

Was it breast cancer?

No, the doctor said it was fibro-abnormal. It was just like a growth in the breast. So, after the wound from the surgery had healed up, the lump came back on the spot where it was earlier removed.

I went back to the hospital in 2020, and it was removed for the second time. Then, it was tested, and the doctor discovered it had nothing to do with cancer. But the condition turned out to be worse. The more it was removed, the more it kept coming back bigger than before.

So, in 2021, it came back again, and I removed it the third time. I was told it was not cancerous, according to what I was told. But in 2022, when I was diagnosed, I had to go to a different hospital, where I had to meet a surgeon.

The surgeon performed a biopsy on me, and that was how I ended up being diagnosed with breast cancer. The reason I went to a different hospital was because the lump there was causing me pain inside my breast, and the spot was itching me all the time.

My nipple also went inside, and the lump wasn’t in a single spot anymore. I had one close to my armpit. So, that was it before it was later diagnosed as breast cancer.

What kind of treatment have you undergone since then?

After having surgery in 2022, I took six cycles of chemotherapy the same year, but I skipped radiotherapy. After the six cycles of chemotherapy, I was placed on a hormonal drug, Tamoxifen, because I skipped radiotherapy and didn’t complete the treatment.

So, the cancer came back. The radiotherapy was supposed to be my last treatment, but I skipped it, not because I did not have the money, but because the doctor never mentioned it to me.

At the point I had the recurrence, it had spread to my lungs, so I started the treatment again this year. I have currently finished six cycles of chemotherapy, and I’m going to start my radiotherapy soon.

Can you remember the number of surgeries you have had?

I have had four surgeries in total. Three of them were minor surgeries, while the first was a major surgery.

How has your body been responding to the treatment so far?

I’m responding to treatment. The computed tomography, which is referred to as a CT scan, that I did recently showed that all my organs are okay. My kidneys, liver, heart, and lungs have been cleared.

There is nothing there in my body again, but I still have to do the radiotherapy because it’s one of the treatments. It is very important, so that there won’t be any recurrence by next year or in the next six months.

Some people believe that going through the process of chemotherapy is rigorous. How did you prepare yourself mentally for it?

Going through chemotherapy is not easy. At first, when I was diagnosed with cancer, I had no clue about it, and I knew nothing about chemotherapy. But when the injection was administered to me for the first time, that was when I knew what chemotherapy was all about, and I saw why people ran away from it.

Chemotherapy is a very harsh and aggressive treatment. It gives different kinds of symptoms for five, six days or more, and the experience differs from one individual to the other.

Chemotherapy can make you stop walking. It can just make you sit in one place and even make you start using the toilet like 25 times. You can be vomiting and even have constipation.

It is also capable of putting you in a depressed state of mind, and sometimes you will feel like ‘I don’t want to do this again, and I should die.’ It will tamper with your mental health.

Anything about cancer treatment, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or radiotherapy is going to mess with your mental health. It’s just for you to be strong enough and believe that you don’t want to die, but survive.

With those bad side effects, it shows that the treatment is working on your body, so at the end of the day, you are going to see the result of what you are treating, but it’s going to be painful.

That is the reason why I wasn’t too disturbed about it, because at the end of the day, I was seeing the results. Even though I was seeing the result, I knew I had to go through pain to see the effectiveness.

Did you also suffer from hair loss?

Yes, that is one of the effects of chemotherapy. Immediately you start the therapy, it will pull your hair. The way it happens is just like when you pour hot water on the chicken and then start pulling out the feathers.

When you sleep, you may wake up and find out that your hair has already been uprooted from your scalp. So, that is just one of the side effects.

Can you remember how much you’ve spent on treatments?

I cannot say a particular amount because I’ve spent up to N7m or N8m, and I’m still spending. This year alone, I’m still going to spend another N1.2m on radiotherapy.

Since 2022, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I’ve been spending money, and at some point, I tried natural remedies, but they didn’t work and worsened the cancer. Before I started the chemotherapy, I started the natural treatment. I did a CT scan, and the result said I had a very small cancer in my lungs.

But when I tried the natural remedy, and did another CT scan, the cancer had spread too much in my lungs. That is why I said it worsened my condition.

Would you say this is the most difficult phase of your life?

Before, I used to question God most times, ‘Why me? Why is this happening to me?’ But at some point, I began to realise that something would happen to everybody in this life. If someone has been destined to have it, the person will have it.

That was why I stopped questioning God. Although it’s very difficult for a young girl like me who is supposed to be thinking about something else, but I’m here treating cancer. In all, I give glory to God for providing all the money for me to do the treatment, and I’m seeing positive signs from them, too.

For me, I’m no longer thinking about cancer. I don’t even believe I have cancer anymore, even though I’m still going to the hospital. I just have faith in God that I won’t have it again. I don’t have to be punishing myself by thinking about it and blaming God.

When you think too much, it will put you into depression, and that can even make the cancer get worse, so I don’t need anything like negative energy around me.

So, how has this affected your outlook on life and maybe your relationship?

The cancer started during my youth service year. I was not able to go to my place of primary assignment. I was just at home, and the only thing I was doing was the monthly clearance.

When I completed my National Youth Service Corps, I could not get a job because I was still here in Anambra State with my parents. I couldn’t travel because I needed to be home for people to take care of me.

I said to myself that I couldn’t be working for somebody and be taking permission every day to go for treatment in the hospital, where I will spend four or five days, before coming back. Nobody is going to employ me in that manner.

So, I have to be at home, depending on people to give me money and all that. When it comes to the part of providing for myself, sometimes I’m sad about it because I cannot even work for myself because of the treatment, and being a cancer patient does not permit me to do anything stressful.

If one has to do a job, it shouldn’t be a stressful job because stress can contribute to recurrence. It comes to my relationship; I don’t think my sickness affected my relationship because the person I had been dating before I was diagnosed with breast cancer has been very supportive.

What do you do to sustain yourself now?

I don’t do anything. I just help my sister out in her shop. I don’t do anything because I visit the hospital almost every day.

Was there any moment you felt like giving up?

Of course, there were moments I felt like giving up, and that was when I had the chemotherapy, and it started disturbing me. There is something called “Chemo brain,” which is when chemotherapy messes with your brain and hormones.

One could sit in a place crying, and inside the body, the person might not know how to explain how he or she feels. At that moment, that person may be wishing for so many things for him or herself, thinking, ‘Let me just give up so that this thing will end.’

Feeling the pain in the body from morning to night is a very difficult thing to explain. That means it is already messing with your brain, and you will start thinking about something stupid.

The only thing that gave me the strength and made me feel positive each time I passed through those things was that I would always see the positive effect in my body. For instance, I had a lump in my breast before having the chemotherapy, but after that, I did not see the lump again.

It was a positive effect, and it encouraged me to take it again, even though I knew it was going to mess with my head.

How do you manage fear, anxiety, or uncertainty about the future?

The fear and anxiety are there naturally. Most times, I am afraid of having a recurrence. I believe I don’t have to live in fear, and I believe I have a God who takes away everything. I believe once the doctor declares me cancer-free, I’m cancer-free, and that affliction will not last.

The fear is there, and the anxiety from this experience is normal, especially when they used to say that pregnancy can make the cancer come back.

I’m still young, and I want to get married and have kids. So, the fear is there, but I believe that there is nothing impossible for God to do.

What has been your biggest source of strength throughout this experience?

I would say God has been my source of strength. My family and most of my friends have just been there for me. They care about me. The majority of them do not see me as a sick person. They take me as a normal person, and because of that, I’ve been strong, and everybody has been out there to see me survive. So, I have to be strong to survive.

Have you experienced any form of stigma because of your health condition?

If I meet a new friend and we exchange contacts, whenever I post something about cancer on my social media pages, because I don’t hide it, the person may end up saying, ‘God will heal you,’ and our conversation will end like that.

I have some of my friends who have stopped talking to me. I believe that those who will stay will stay, while others will leave. The only thing is to encourage oneself because at the end of the day, even if it’s not cancer, life circumstances can happen to anybody, and nobody is an exception.

I had cancer without any family history of cancer. But I was diagnosed with it, so that anybody can be sick. I don’t blame anybody who stopped talking to me.

If those who stopped talking to me decide to talk to me tomorrow, I will respond to them because I’ve lost interest in being bad to anybody or anything.

Anambra School Defeats UK Schools, Others to Emerge Champions of Inaugural UK-Nigeria Competition.

In what can only be described as a landmark moment for Nigerian secondary school education, St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, Anambra State, has emerged grand champion of the inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Competition, triumphing over both local and British contenders in an intellectually charged contest that captivated audiences across two nations.

The groundbreaking competition, jointly organized by Bring It On Africa and Debate Mate UK, was designed to foster cross-cultural dialogue and sharpen the critical thinking, oratory, and reasoning skills of students from both countries. Held virtually on June 19, 2025, the event saw spirited participation from top-ranking schools on both sides of the Atlantic.

Representing Nigeria were four elite institutions: Britarch Schools, Abuja; Sure Start School, Abuja; St. Augustine’s College, Jos; and St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu. Flying the flag for the United Kingdom were distinguished schools such as Central Foundation Girls’ School, Maghull High School, and Shireland High School.

After intense preliminary rounds that tested their logical acuity, public speaking finesse, and rebuttal prowess, St. John Vianney Science College broke straight to the finals. The team confidently out-argued the British contenders—defeating Maghull High School and Central Foundation Girls’ School—before advancing to an all-Nigerian final against St. Augustine’s College, Jos.

In a highly competitive showdown that held viewers in suspense, St. John Vianney Science College secured a decisive victory in the finals, earning the prestigious title of Inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Champions. With this triumph came the honour of representing Nigeria at the extensional debate rounds scheduled for December 2025 in London, United Kingdom.

The school was represented by Chibueze Jennifer, Obiokafor Catherine, Eneoli Benjamin, and Onwuegbusi Valentine, mentored by their coach, John Onuigbo, with valuable support from Chiagozie Udorji. Speaking shortly after the victory, Chibueze Jennifer, one of the standout performers, expressed her excitement and gratitude: “This is a dream come true for all of us. The level of competition was extremely high, especially going against top schools from the UK. But we believed in our preparation, trusted each other, and gave it our best. Winning this title has shown us that Nigerian students can stand toe-to-toe with anyone in the world when given the platform.”

The mood of celebration was equally palpable among the school leadership. Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, popularly known as Fr. Ebube Muonso and Director of St. John Vianney Science College, hailed the team’s triumph as proof of the school’s enduring commitment to excellence, discipline, and global relevance. “This victory is a validation of the quality of education and moral formation that St. John Vianney Science College stands for,” Rev. Fr. Obimma remarked. “Our students have demonstrated not only academic brilliance but also the courage to engage in global discourse. We are proud of their achievement and trust that this marks the beginning of many more global successes for them and for Nigeria.”

The UK-Nigeria Debate Championship, the first of its kind, provided a rare virtual platform for students from both countries to explore pressing global themes, challenge assumptions, and develop meaningful cross-cultural understanding. Debate topics ranged from technology and environmental protection to history.

The performance of the Nigerian schools was exceptional. St. Augustine’s College, Jos, also secured a coveted place in the upcoming London rounds, having earned the runner-up position in the fiercely contested final against St. John Vianney Science College. Shireland High School from the United Kingdom placed third overall.

As the dust settles on this historic virtual competition, excitement is already building for the next stage. Both St. John Vianney Science College, Anambra State, and St. Augustine’s College, Jos, will once again represent Nigeria in the extensional Grand Finale slated for December in London, where they will engage their British peers in live, face-to-face debates on a global stage.

Security Operatives Arrest Human Parts Dealers in Anambra.

Anambra Security Operatives, Agunechemba has continued to make progress in its bid to rid this State of criminal elements.

This time, operation Udo ga Achi made the news in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State where they reportedly arrested two some suspects involved in a gruesome case of ritual killing and human parts dealing in Eziagulu Village, Aguleri.

The arrests were reportedly made on Sunday, June 15, 2025, following a tip-off and subsequent intelligence-led operation by the local security team. Two of the arrested suspects, identified as Ifeanyi Ogbanje and Emeka Ekwealor, confessed to the brutal murder of one Mr. Samuel, a commercial motorcyclist from Ivite Aguleri, whom they also butchered, collected some of his body parts and dumped the remaining parts in a river.

This was corroborated by some videos of the interrogations of the suspects, currently trending on social media.

According to confessions made by the suspects during interrogation, the heinous act was orchestrated by one Chief Chinaka Udealor, the alleged kingpin of the syndicate, who is currently at large. Another accomplice, identified as Marcel Bad, is also said to be on the run.

Narrating the incident, Ifeanyi Ogbanje disclosed that the victim, Samuel (the Okada rider), was lured to Chinaka’s residence when they called him on phone and pretendedly invited him to come and join them and to have a drink in a friendly gathering at the Chinaka’s parlour.

He said immediately Samuel the Okada rider arrived there with his bike, they ambushed him. According to him, Chinaka stabbed him on the chest immediately, while him himself shot him on the head with a Pump Action gun belonging to Chinaka, and he died instantly, while they joyfully began to butcher him and dismember his body.

“We cut off his hands and legs and threw his body into the river,” Ogbanje stated, revealing that he received ₦40,000 as his own share for his role in the killing.

The second suspect, Emeka Ekwealor, corroborated Ogbanje’s confession, admitting to being part of the act. The suspects further revealed that their gang and acts were sealed with an oath-taking ritual conducted by a native doctor identified as Udeanyinya Ubanagu, to bind their silence and loyalty to the syndicate.

He further hinted that they also gave the victim’s motorcycle to someone else, who changed the tank and some other parts of the bike to prevent its identification.

The suspects also led the Udo Ga-Achi security team to the scene of the crime — the parlour of Chinaka Udealor’s house — where the murder was said to have occurred, even as efforts are still currently ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang members and bring all involved to justice.

Howbeit, while the alleged kingpin of the syndicate, Chief Chinaka Udealor, and the native doctor who conducted the oath-taking ritual for the gang members are still on the run now; sources have it that the arrested suspects are currently in the security custody of the Anambra East Unit of Operation Udo Ga-Achị and are expected to be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

Soludo Approves N15m For Mass Burial Of 43 Ogwuaniocha Crisis Victims

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has approved fifteen million naira for the Ogwuaniocha community in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state in support of the mass burial of forty-three indigenes who lost their lives during the internal crisis that rocked the community in November 2021.

Presenting the cheque on behalf of the Governor to the President-General of the Ogwuaniocha Progressive Association, Honourable Vitalis Ekweanua, in the presence of other community stakeholders in his office on Saturday, the State Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barrister Anthony Ifeanya, commended the community for taking the necessary steps to enable peace to thrive.

Barrister Ifeanya, who announced Governor Soludo’s willingness to visit the community with developmental projects, vowed that Ogwuaniocha must receive everything due to it as a host community under his watch.

Receiving the cheque, Honourable Ekweanua disclosed that in their quest to implement all activities mapped out to restore lasting peace, the community had sourced funds and held the mass burial for the forty-three deceased members on 20th April 2025. He expressed deep appreciation to Governor Soludo for the gesture.

Ekweanua, however, lamented that despite the state government’s effort, the community still remains deserted.

According to him, the fifteen million naira support is a welcome development, but the community is requesting more government presence in infrastructural development and related areas.

“Ogwuaniocha community is completely deserted. Nothing good is happening here. Our children no longer go to school because the entire schools in the community — primary and secondary — were all destroyed due to the communal crisis.

“As I speak to you, about 90 percent of houses, including my house as the President-General of the town, were also destroyed beyond repair.

“Our healthcare facilities are also affected. Nothing good is happening here. We are currently helpless. We seriously need our Solution Governor to urgently intervene.

“The company drilling oil in our community is also our major challenge. Ever since they commenced operations in the area, we stopped farming and fishing due to the oil spillage, and no compensation has been given to us.

“For the past three years, we have been living in fear, pain and hunger as a result of the crisis. Our kidnapped traditional ruler has remained missing since the crisis broke out in November 2021 under the immediate past administration of Governor Willie Obiano.

“We are appealing to Governor Soludo to extend more of his kind-hearted agenda for Ndi Anambra to our community by reconstructing the affected facilities and also build us a bridge at the Ulasi River that would link Umunankwo to Ihiala Local Government Area of the state. And with this, I believe the community would regain its lost glory.

“Soludo, being a God-sent governor to Anambra, we will support him with 100/100 votes to ensure that he emerges victorious in the 8th November 2025 governorship election in the state.”

Man Raises Alarm as 25- Year- Old Loses Life Due to Negligence in Anambra Hospital.

A devastating incident has shaken Anambra State, as a 25-year-old lady died after being referred to a private facility for renal dialysis following complications from a caesarean section at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka.

According to a post shared by social media user, Dr. Kene Ojukwu, the young woman was admitted for an elective surgery, which was successful. However, she developed renal failure complications that required prompt dialysis. Unfortunately, the hospital's dialysis machine was not operational due to technical issues and staff availability.

Dr Ojukwu wrote: "A 25 year old lady was admitted for elective caesarean section, she had a successful surgery, however, she suffered complications of renal failure. This was duly referred to the nephrology team. This event happened on a friday afternoon 30th may.

"What happened;
The hospital lacked the tools to offer renal dialysis she needed promptly. They highlighted two reasons why she was not able to get her dialysis in amaku, that the machine is not operational due to reasons of operators availability and machine functionality.

"What happened next;
The decision for dialysis was nigh, but the amaku can’t offer her this, due to reasons above, she was referred to clinix private facility for this dialysis.

"What are the issues;
The ambulance she was transferred with, had no trained nurse or health worker to accompany her, reason is not far fetched, amaku is severely and dangerously short staffed across board and this is becoming a situation of poor prognosis to patient care and outcome.

"The ambulance to convey her has NO OXYGEN in the cylinder, and this oxygen was fixed by ambulance driver, an untrained personnel to handle sick patients. Thus, he does not understand how to ascertain if a fixed oxygen is viable or not. It took the clinix nurse to reassess and found this lady dead on arrival with oxygen cylinder empty with no oxygen within.

Continuing, Dr Ojukwu raised some questions concerning running of the number one government hospital in the State

He said,"There must be serious review of books and activities by Mr Governor, why the Amaku dialysis does not function on a weekend and on this day of event, friday, afternoon.

"How does a CMD run a hospital with no proper safety checks of the serious facilities not functioning and what are the burning issues that prevents this functioning to be in optimised conditions. What can we do to fix this"

Agụnechemba Allegedly Kills 12-Year-Old Boy in Onitsha, Attempts to Flee (Video)

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

An officer of the recently-launched security operatives in Anambra State, Agụnechemba (popularly known as Operation Udo Ga-Achị) has reportedly gunned down a 12-year-old boy in Anambra State, adding to the list of “unjustifiable killings” by the operatives since its launch in March this year.

The incident reportedly occurred on the Democracy Day, Thursday, at the Ifejika Street, Sokoto Road, near the popular Biafra Market in Onitsha South Local Government Area of the State, where the yet-to-be-identified young boy was said to have met his untimely death in the hands of the officers who were said to be attached to the Onitsha South Local Government.

According to eyewitnesses, the young boy was sitting on a culvert beside the Nwangene Drainage, apparently on his way to use a nearby toilet, when he was suddenly fired by the trigger-happy operative, without any provocation or confrontation.

It was further gathered that immediately the boy fell there in the pool of his blood, the security operatives, allegedly attempted to flee the scene in their vehicle, but were stopped by angry residents and traders, who immediately trooped out, blocked them and insisted that they must not abandon the boy’s corpse at the scene.

The operatives, however, eventually carried the corpse away after being overwhelmed and pressured by the crowd, which included traders residents and members of a local vigilante group in the market.

This was corroborated by a video trending on social media, showing two of the Agụnechemba security operatives carrying the dead body of the boy into the back of their van, which bears the operation number ANSG 0060, toll-free line 112, 5111, and mobile number 08002200008.

Reacting to the incident, a local vigilante officer in the area, who simply identified himself as Nwadibia, said they had to act swiftly to ensure the boy’s corpse was not abandoned and that the real culprits were held responsible.

“If Operation Udo Ga-Achị had not been forced to take the boy’s body, the blame may have been shifted to us later,” he stated.

Some eyewitnesses also claimed that the operatives had been notorious for similar extrajudicial killings and that they often go unpunished.

“There was no altercation. The boy had done nothing wrong. He was simply trying to relieve himself when he was shot,” a resident said recounted.

Another eyewitness, Mr. Magnus Okoli, a trader in the area, described the killing as “senseless, barbaric and tragic,” stressing that the operatives acted with recklessness and impunity and was even more wrong by attempting to flee.

“He was clearly just a child — barely a teenager. Even if they suspected him of anything, they should have questioned him, not shoot. From where their van was parked to where the boy sat, you can clearly see that it was a targeted action, and not a mistake. So, they can’t claim that it was an accidental discharge, as usual,” he said.

When contacted via WhatsApp by this reporter, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, was yet to react to the video of the incident forwarded him or respond to the question asked by the reporter, as at the time of filing this report.

Similarly, further efforts by this reporter to get the reactions of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Homeland Security, Chief Ken Emeakayi, proved abortive, as he refused to pick his call respond to the message sent to him, as at the time of this report publication.

According to Ifunanya, her father lived and worked in New York for 25 years and, upon retirement, decided to go back to his village where he had built a mansion for himself and his family.

All seemed to be well, and he was communicating regularly with his family back in the United States until he suddenly stopped.

Ifunanya said this was intriguing to her because, as the first daughter, she was very close to her father and could not imagine what could keep her father from calling her for months.

She said many of her calls to her father went unanswered, and when the calls were picked it was by her aunt, who would sometimes say she was cooking in the kitchen and her father was upstairs.

At other times, the aunt would tell her she was out of the house, but that Peter was well, and she would ask him to call her back when she got home. He never did.

After about six months of not hearing from her father directly, Ifunanya was worried stiff, not knowing if he was dead or alive. In a series of videos, wherein Ifunanya shared her testimony, she recalled how the Holy Spirit instructed her she had to visit Nigeria to save her dad, and she obeyed.

He said her dad could never be in need of money because he drew a monthly pension of $5000 (about N7.5m) and had a mansion and cars at his disposal. Upon that, she said she would often send money to him again, especially when they were not hearing from him, thinking that he probably ran out of cash.

Ifunanya said she asked for two weeks off at her place of work and travelled down to Nigeria in January 2022.

She spent part of the holiday in Lagos and proceeded to their village in Enugwu Ukwu, but realised that a truckload of sand had been dumped in front of her father’s gate, making it impossible for any vehicle to enter or depart. That was the first sign of trouble she noticed, but she saw more when she proceeded to climb over the sand and bang the gate.

According to her, her uncle and aunt came out and furiously demanded what she was doing in Nigeria.

“They threw sand on me and called me a prostitute, telling me to go away”, she recalled.

Ifunanya said she refused to leave and insisted on entering her father’s compound. She recalled that the commotion drew the attention of villagers and youths who demanded to know what was happening.

Upon convincing them that she was the first daughter of the owner of the compound, the villagers began to challenge the uncle, called Frances and the aunt, Josephine, asking why they were preventing a daughter from seeing her father.

The crowd reportedly attempted to beat Frances and Josephine for what they called an abomination, but were protected by the elders.

Ifunanya said they were able to enter and access the ground floor of the three-storey mansion her father built in the village.

At that point, Ifunanya said Josephine claimed her father had travelled to Abuja and put a call through to another brother of Peter who stayed in Abuja.

The brother, identified as Uncle Christopher, corroborated the claim that Peter was with him in Abuja, but he stepped out of the house and would call Ifunanya back.

Ifunanya said the Holy Spirit told her it was a lie and that her father was upstairs, and she then insisted that she would like to go upstairs to see her father’s room.

After some resistance, the youths forced their way in and led Ifunanya upstairs, where she found her father on a dirty mattress on the floor.

The legs were already skinny, and his beard and nails were very long and unkempt. Ifunanya said she broke down in tears to see her father in that state. According to her, her father recognised her instantly and was very happy to see her apparently thinking that finally salvation had arrived for him.

PoliticsAnambra Government Imposes N50 Million Permit Fee On All Governorship Candidates by AnambraPeople(op): 9:41am On Jun 12, 2025
Anambra Government Imposes N50 Million Permit Fee on all Governorship Candidates.

As the campaign window for the November 8 Anambra gubernatorial election officially opens today, the state government has announced a mandatory permit fee of ₦50 million for every governorship candidate who wishes to engage in outdoor campaign within the state.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA), Mr. Tony Odili Ujubuoñu, made this known on Wednesday during a press briefing held at the agency’s headquarters in Awka, the state capital.

Speaking on the theme “Out-of-Home Promotions and Visual Campaign Guidelines for Political Parties Campaign for Anambra State Gubernatorial Election 2025,” Mr. Ujubuoñu said the fee was in line with ANSAA’s mandate to regulate outdoor advertising, and is aimed at ensuring orderliness, environmental aesthetics, and lawful conduct of campaign-related advertising activities across the state’s 21 local government areas.

According to him, the ₦50 million statutory permit fee grants candidates and political parties the right to carry out visual campaign activities such as public rallies, deployment of posters, banners, branded vehicles, T-shirts, caps, handbills, buntings, street storm campaigns, and other promotional materials across both urban and rural areas of the state.

“Every political party and candidate must obtain a campaign permit from ANSAA before deploying any form of visual campaign or outdoor promotional materials. The statutory fee for the permit is ₦50 million, payable to the Anambra State Government account,” he said.

Continuing, he said “The purpose of this permit is to ensure orderliness, prevent visual pollution, create a level playing ground for all, and maintain professional standards in the use of public advertising and visual promotion spaces, and above all, to protect our public infrastructures,” he said.

Flanked by some principal officers of the Agency — GM/Chief Operating Officer, Chijioke Agbanyi; Out of Home Manager, Innocent Adike; Executive Assistant to MD and Manager of Special Projects, Obinna Efobi; and ANSAA Media Manager, MacDonald Ifeme — Mr. Ujubuoñu emphasized that any candidate or party that fails to comply will have their materials removed and face the full weight of the law.

He further added that only practitioners duly registered and licensed by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) are permitted to erect and manage billboards or campaign structures in the state.

His words: “Please, also be informed that no individual, political party, or support group is permitted to erect billboards or any advertisement structures in any part of Anambra State. Only advertising practitioners registered and licensed by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, ARCON, a federal government agency, are authorized to erect and manage such structures within the state as permitted by ANSAA.

“We advise all political parties and candidates to work with ARCON registered practitioners to avoid sanctions or removal of unapproved materials.”

While re-emphasizing ANSAA’s mandate of regulating and licensing all out-of-home advertising in the state, Ujubuoñu, who commended the various political parties for the peaceful conduct of their primary elections and for maintaining decorum across the state, also expressed hope that such peaceful and orderly approach continues into the campaign season for the 2025 gubernatorial elections

He warned against defacing opponents’ campaign materials or violating public space guidelines, describing such actions as unacceptable, undemocratic, and punishable.

“We appeal to all political parties, their supporters, and the general public to be considerate of other users of the advertising and visual promotion space in the state and refrain from defacing the campaign materials of opponents. Such action are unacceptable and contrary to the principles of fair democratic engagement,” he appealed, stressing that this is not a do-or-die affair, but a brotherly contest and democratic process to allow Ndị Anambra fulfill their civil duty.

Fielding questions from newsmen on the justification for the ₦50 million fee, Ujubuoñu clarified that the decision was made based on economic realities and the operational costs associated with regulating thousands of campaign materials simultaneously across the state. He noted that political campaigns involve large-scale advertising, which demands significant oversight and coordination, and after which the Agency will still undertake the responsibility of cleaning up the ‘mess’ generated by posters and other such campaign materials after the election.

The ANSAA Boss also dismissed claims and speculations of selective enforcement or double standards, emphasizing that electoral campaigns and branded political activities are governed by specific legal and regulatory frameworks, and must be adhered to by every political party or candidate, including the incumbent Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, whom, he said, has always been up and doing in paying for every advisement service related to or offered to him, even as a Governor.

Crime3 Police Officers Detained For Searching People's Phone In Anambra by AnambraPeople(op): 9:30pm On Jun 11, 2025
The Anambra State Police Command has ordered the detention of three police inspectors over allegations of corruption and professional misconduct.

The directive was handed down by the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, who also ordered the immediate commencement of internal disciplinary proceedings against the officers in line with established procedures of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the officers were apprehended following credible allegations that they forcibly searched a citizen’s phone during a routine patrol and went further to extort money from the unsuspecting victim.

The statement noted that the Commissioner personally interrogated the officers and expressed deep disappointment over their conduct, describing it as shameful, unprofessional, and a complete betrayal of the ethics of policing.

“CP Orutugu frowned at the poor character exhibition of how they accosted an unsuspecting member of the public during a security patrol, forcibly searched his phone and extorted from the victim,” the statement reads in part.

While condemning the misconduct in strong terms, the CP emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined, transparent, and accountable institution that will not condone any form of abuse of office, corruption, or unprofessional conduct among its personnel.

He further described such behaviour as a serious setback to the Police Force’s broader reform agenda and a dangerous breach of public trust that undermines the relationship between officers and the citizens they are sworn to protect.

“Such anomalies, aside from negating the professional calling of the Police, are unacceptable, as they affect the entire execution of policies and directives, thereby widening the trust gap between the citizens and the Force,” the statement concluded.

The Police Command reassured the public of its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct and reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism, accountability, and integrity across all levels of policing in the state.

Soludo Debunks Claims of Consulting Native Doctor For November 8 Guber Election

The Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has denied allegations that he consulted a native doctor regarding his reelection prospects.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to the Governor, the government described the claims as “totally false” and “maliciously fabricated.”

According to the government, a video clip being circulated online, purportedly showing the Governor consulting a native doctor, was actually taken during a meeting with Anambra-based content creators.

During the session, one of the content creators performed a skit, a common comic genre in Nigerian entertainment, to showcase their creative abilities.

The government expressed disappointment that critics and political opponents would deliberately misrepresent the video to spread misinformation.

It emphasized that Governor Soludo’s commitment to developing Anambra’s creative economy is evident in projects like the recently commissioned Solution Fun City.

The government urged the public to disregard the misinformation and verify information before sharing or amplifying content.

It reiterated Governor Soludo’s commitment to the development of Anambra State and his focus on delivering the Solution Agenda.
