PoliticsAPC Rejects Anambra South By-election Result by AnambraPeople(op): 11:30am On Aug 18, 2025
APC rejects Anambra south by-election result

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the result of the Anambra South Senatorial District by-election held on Saturday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Dr. Emmanuel Nwachukwu of the APGA the winner, with 90,408 votes.

Chief Azuka Okwuosa of the APC polled 19,847 votes, while Mr Donald Amangbo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 2,889 votes.

Chief Basil Ejidike, APC Chairman in Anambra, alleged that the party’s candidate was held hostage in his home by men of the Anambra Vigilance Group.

He further claimed that a state government official, not from Anambra South, led members of Agunaechemba, the state security outfit, to restrict APC candidates in Orsumenyi.

“While he distracted our governorship candidate in Orsumenyi, the Vigilance Group held our Senatorial candidate hostage in his home,” Ejidike alleged.

Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu added that the APC did not know where the returning officer obtained the results, as most were still with electoral officers.

He accused the state security outfit of committing a serious breach of the electoral process and questioned why nobody had been arrested.

Ukachukwu said APGA’s actions revealed fear, despite its claims of popularity, and suggested the party avoided a genuine popularity contest.

“They know Anambra is tired of APGA and their government,” Ukachukwu stated.

He recalled that at a pre-election security meeting, it was agreed that the state security outfit would not participate and should be disarmed.

“Instead, they openly carried guns, arrested people, and detained them in their own cells.

“If it were APC, they would accuse us of using the Police and Army to intimidate them,” he said.

Ukachukwu stressed that the APC would challenge the declared result, insisting it did not reflect the people’s will. He expressed confidence in APC’s chances in the Nov. 8 governorship election.

Anambra By-Election: Angry Youths Hold Anambra Deputy Gov Hostage in Osumenyi

The Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, was on Saturday literally rescued from angry youths who were dissatisfied with his involvement in the bye-election process within the Anambra South Senatorial Bye-Election in Osumenyi, Nnewi South LGA.

The deputy governor was reportedly held hostage for above one hour, twenty minutes before news got to security operatives and Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu came to his rescue.

The angry youths, reporters learnt, noted their shock and surprise that after years of neglect of the senatorial district by the incumbent Prof. Charles Soludo’s administration they came to woo voters on election day.

“Yet, despite the neglect, Deputy Governor Ibezim, working in harmony with the State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Felix Odumegwu, were caught in the area to induce votes in favour of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Hence, we prevented that from happening.”

Youths from the community who are dissatisfied with the development actually blocked the deputy governor’s convoy.

“The governor’s assistants beat me up, in fact, rough handled me, snatched my phone and want to run away before the youths came to my aid,” a victim said.

The youths said the Deputy Governor’s presence in Osumenyi far away from his Awka hometown is an aberration.

The Deputy Governor in an interview with journalists said that the issue would be handled legally.

At one of the centers — Awo, Ezinifite voting center, more than one hundred members of the state vigilante and security operatives, aka, Udo-Ga-Achi prevented journalists, observers and election monitors from going into the venue.

They reportedly claimed that “our deputy governor is inside with the INEC officials”.

Even the arrival of the APC governorship flagbearer, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu who came in when the SOS alarm by citizens reached him, failed to broker peace.

The security operatives instantly cocked their guns, waving them menacingly at the capacity crowd who were there to cast their votes and protect same.

Everyone instantly took to their heels. It nearly turned to a free for all fight.

PoliticsLabour Party Planning To Rig Anambra Bye-elections, APGA Raises Alarm. by AnambraPeople(op): 7:35pm On Aug 15, 2025
Labour Party Planning to Rig Anambra Bye-Elections, APGA Raises Alarm.

The National Coordinator of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors Forum, Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, on Friday accused members of the Labour Party (LP) of being the actual masterminds behind plans to rig the forthcoming bye-elections in Anambra State.

Obigwe made the statement in response to allegations by the Anambra State Labour Party Caucus in the National Assembly, which had accused Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of plotting to deploy non-state security actors and political thugs to manipulate the bye-elections scheduled for Saturday, August 16, in Onitsha North I State Constituency and Anambra South Senatorial District.

In a statement issued Friday, Obigwe dismissed the Labour Party’s accusations as a diversionary tactic, arguing that the party was actually attempting to mask its own premeditated electoral malpractice by pointing fingers at APGA and Governor Soludo.

“It is ironic that the same Labour Party members, who are deeply entrenched in plotting to rig Saturday’s bye-elections, are now turning around to accuse Governor Soludo of such plans. Their scheme is being exposed and frustrated one step at a time, hence the resort to propaganda and baseless accusations,” Obigwe said.

He assured voters that security agencies deployed for the election would act professionally and decisively to prevent any attempts at rigging, adding that those intending to cause chaos would be apprehended and prosecuted.

“The Nigerian security agencies are fully prepared to ensure the integrity of the electoral process. The Labour Party knows this, which is why they are now crying wolf where none exists,” Obigwe added.

He described the Labour Party’s claims as “a fabricated tissue of lies” and referred to its members as “political desperadoes shedding crocodile tears in anticipation of an inevitable defeat at the polls.”

“These false alarmists are attempting to undermine the electoral process through misinformation. But Anambra voters are wiser. They have seen through the smokescreen and are prepared to stand by APGA and Governor Soludo, whose developmental strides continue to earn public trust,” he said.

Obigwe reaffirmed the popularity of APGA and the Soludo administration, stating that the people of Anambra are ready to reaffirm their support for the governor and his party, both in the bye-elections and in the November 8 governorship election.

“Governor Soludo’s track record speaks for itself. His achievements in office have solidified the people’s confidence in him. The August 16 bye-election will be another opportunity for Anambra voters to express that trust by voting for APGA candidates—and come November 8, they will re-elect him resoundingly,” Obigwe declared.

Anambra 2025:Ngige Reportedly Dumps Soludo, Backs Ukachukwu

Political circles in Anambra State are abuzz with speculation following reports that former Governor of the state, Senator Chris Ngige, has allegedly withdrawn his support for the incumbent Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and thrown his weight behind Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the November 8, 2025 governorship election.

The development, which has sparked mixed reactions among political stakeholders and observers, comes as a surprise to many, considering Ngige’s history of publicly commending Governor Soludo at various events both in Abuja, within Anambra and elsewhere.

According to political sources, Ngige’s alleged decision to realign his support may not be unconnected with lingering tensions between him and the current APGA-led administration over the recognition of the traditional ruler of his hometown, Alor. The state government has continued to accord recognition to H.R.H. Igwe MacAnthony Okonkwo as the Traditional Ruler of Alor, in defiance of Ngige’s reported preference for H.R.H. Igwe Collins Ebelechukwu Chukwumesili. Sources have it that several behind-the-scenes efforts by Ngige to have the government shift its recognition to Igwe Chukwumesili are said to have met a brick wall.

Another source, however, claimed that the latest move may also be part of a political reconciliation bid between Ngige and the presidency. The source alleged that Ngige was advised that securing APC’s victory in the forthcoming election would be a key step towards mending fences at the federal level, between him and the presidency.

Adding to the speculation, reports have also pointed to Ngige’s recent public remarks as subtle indicators of his dissatisfaction with the current administration. In a recent interview, the former governor appeared to criticize sitting governors who celebrate commissioning of short road projects, and also spoke pointedly about his approach to tackling insecurity during his tenure — comments some see as indirect jabs at Governor Soludo.

However, when contacted by this reporter, a close ally of Ngige outrightly dismissed the swirling claims as baseless political gossip. The ally, who spoke on condition of anonymity, maintained that Ngige has never wavered in his loyalty to the APC and has remained a key figure in the party’s leadership both in Anambra State and across the Southeast.

“Senator Ngige has always been a staunch APC man. He has never defected, nor has he worked against the party’s interests. In fact, he continues to play a leading role in strengthening the APC’s structures and advancing its chances in elections,” the ally stated.

On the allegation that Ngige’s reported backing of Ukachukwu is an attempt to curry favour with the presidency, the ally dismissed the notion as “completely fallacious,” adding that the former governor’s political stature, having served as a state governor, senator, and two-time minister, makes it unnecessary for him to seek validation through such maneuvers.

These claims and counter claims notwithstanding, as the November 8 Anambra governorship election draws nearer, the reports, whether fact or speculation, have injected fresh intrigue into the state’s political landscape, with the alleged Ngige-Ukachukwu alignment likely to attract more reactions in the weeks ahead, especially with the circulation of Ukachukwu's campaign posters with Ngige's pictures which have currently flooded the social media space.

Politics5 Reasons Why Soludo May Win November 8th Governorship Election by AnambraPeople(op): 8:10pm On Aug 10, 2025
5 Reasons Why Soludo May Win November 8th Governorship Election

On November 8, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will Conduct Anambra governorship election.

Many political Parties will be participating in the election including APC , Labour Party, ADC ,YPP, PDP and the Governor’s party APGA, amongst other parties.

There are a number of reasons why Soludo’s party, APGA stands a chance in the November 8th Anambra gubernatorial elections. In this piece, we will list these reasons in no particular order.

Lackluster Opposition

The opposition in Anambra has been ineffective and overly passive, often appearing to support the governor rather than challenge him. Instead of being proactive, the opposition has been reactive. This has allowed the current administration act with considerable latitude.

Soludo's Connections

Governor Soludo's relationships with key figures in the APC, including the President, Senator Umahi, and other governors like Zulum and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State will be helpful. As a member of the President's advisory team, Soludo's connections may influence the President's level of involvement in Anambra's election. The President may want to retain Soludo's services, potentially affecting the election dynamics.

Zoning

The idea of zonal balance and sentiment favor Soludo. Anambra has a zoning arrangement which was started by Governor Peter Obi and this has allowed power to move – every 8 years – from each senatorial zone. Peter Obi, who is from Anambra Central spent 8 years as governor. Willie Obiano, who is from the northern senatorial zone spent the next 8 years. So, it is in the best interest of Peter Obi’s senatorial zone for Soludo to complete another 4 years and handover to a candidate from the central senatorial zone in 2030. Anything apart from this rotational arrangement will scatter and distort the peaceful political terrain in Anambra forever. The recent promises for a one-term tenure by other candidates in Anambra’s forthcoming gubernatorial election are because they know and believe in this power shift arrangement. Because of the nature of power, no politician can ever keep to a promise of spending one-term in office when the constitution allows for two terms. History is replete with many ‘honest’ politicians who broke this kind of promise!

APGA Factor

Soludo’s party, APGA, is strongly rooted in Anambra and its more of a mass movement. No other political party in Anambra has the polling unit, ward, local government and state-wide structure. The party is well-organized at the grassroot and the man in the street in Anambra is very proud to be associated with it and what it represents.

Moral Governance

Soludo’s championing of moral governance and his confrontation of cultism disguised as tradition has endeared him to religious organizations such as the church. Religious leaders see Soludo as a beacon of hope that will help transform society and eliminate moral decadence. (Soludo’s confrontation of cultism and evil native doctors have significantly helped in securing Anambra State).

Pharmaceutical Giant, May & Baker to build new facility in Anambra

First indigenous Pharmaceutical company in Nigeria,May & Baker Nigeria Plc has announced plans to establish a new facility in Anambra State as part of its investment in the state’s economy and commitment to expand its local manufacturing footprint.

According to a statement, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of May & Baker, Patrick Ajah, disclosed this during the 2025 Annual Conference of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria held recently in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

Ajah disclosed this while receiving the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, at the company’s exhibition stand.

He revealed that in addition to its current depot operation in Onitsha, the company is “in the process of building its facility in Onitsha as well.”

Ajah reaffirmed May & Baker’s position as the first pharmaceutical company in Nigeria and emphasised its commitment to local innovation and manufacturing. “We are heavily invested in producing quality medications locally and developing products from Nigerian research,” he said.

Soludo, who lauded the company’s innovation drive, expressed delight that most of the drugs on display were locally produced at the May & Baker Pharmacentre in Ota, Ogun State.

“I am impressed that these drugs are made in Nigeria, and the innovation I see here is commendable,” Soludo stated after visiting the stand.

Ajah also highlighted May & Baker’s investment in herbal drug production through a dedicated herbal facility, which utilises research from Nigerian scientists and indigenous plants.

He noted that the facility produces products such as Roveda, made from bitter-leaf and developed by the Vice Chancellor of Benson Idahosa University, Prof. Ernest Izevbigie, and Niclovix, a product of the Nigerian Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development in Abuja.

Why Air Peace is Not Quoted Yet - Allen Onyema

Allen Onyema disclosed this while responding on financing options for the aviation industry as a panellist at the 2025 League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) conference.

At the event, the Air Peace chairman said the decision to remain private is driven by the desire to build a lasting legacy and protect the interests of staff and stakeholders.

“We want to build a legacy that will stand the test of time. Some people have told me I can get up to $100 billion with all the aircraft I have ordered,” the CEO said.

“If it is about money, I would have done that (listed) a long time ago. I would have gone to the public, maybe made money as some people advised me, and walk away. It is not about that.

“I am thinking about over 4,000 people who are working with Air Peace today. I am thinking of them.”

Onyema said one of the reasons for delaying listing on the capital market is to avoid external pressure from minority shareholders who could disrupt the company’s philanthropic and people-oriented operations.

“I am thinking of the people who would take us to court every day after investing just 0.5 percent,” he said.

“They may not allow us to continue some of the philanthropic things we do.”

The Air Peace chief added that going public remains in the long-term plans of the airline — but only after a solid foundation is in place.

PoliticsPeter Obi’s Aide, Obienyem Replies Onoh On Allegation Of Betraying Ojukwu. by AnambraPeople(op): 10:24pm On Aug 07, 2025
Peter Obi’s aide, Obienyem replies Onoh on Allegation of Betraying Ojukwu.

Mr. Valentine Obienyem, Media Adviser to Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has responded to recent comments by Dr. Josef Onoh, brother-in-law to the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, who had questioned Obi’s political integrity and commitment to a one-term presidency.

Onoh had alleged that Obi reneged on a promise to Ojukwu, suggesting that Obi’s public stance on political issues does not align with his past actions.

Reacting in a statement made available to Vanguard, Obienyem dismissed the claims as inaccurate and politically motivated, calling on Onoh to specify any promises Obi failed to fulfill.

“It is inappropriate for Dr. Onoh to bring Ojukwu’s name into partisan political debate,” Obienyem said. “Mr. Obi treated Ojukwu with great respect, visiting him over ten times in a UK hospital.”

He recalled that Obi was among the first to be informed of Ojukwu’s passing, citing a message from Ojukwu’s wife, Bianca, as proof of his deep personal connection to the family.

“He returned to London that same morning, despite just arriving in Nigeria. He made those sacrifices out of genuine respect and concern,” he added.

Obienyem also referenced the high-profile burial organized for Ojukwu under Obi’s leadership, calling it one of the most dignified in Nigeria’s history.

He cautioned against what he described as “the indiscriminate use of revered Igbo names in political discourse,” urging politicians to uphold the legacies of national icons such as Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Dim Ojukwu.

“In other regions, prominent national figures are treated with reverence. It is disappointing when some local actors appear to undermine their own heroes,” Obienyem said.

Commenting on Dr. Onoh’s political positions, Obienyem noted that public discourse should be guided by principle, not opportunism.

“Political engagement should reflect consistency and respect for democratic ideals,” he stated, without further commenting on Onoh’s political trajectory.

Reaffirming Obi’s commitment to a one-term presidency, Obienyem said it reflects Obi’s leadership values and belief in equity.

“His pledge aligns with the principles of zoning and fair representation. It is well within constitutional provisions for a leader to voluntarily opt for a single term in service to national unity,” he explained.

Obienyem concluded by stating that Peter Obi’s political record speaks for itself and called for more constructive political dialogue moving forward.

Anambra Billionaire, Ibeto Sponsors Over 20 Persons on Vacation Tour in Europe

Anambra-born billionaire industrialist and renowned philanthropist, Chief Dr. Cletus M. Ibeto, CON, has flown members of his elite inner circle on an all-expenses-paid tour across ten European countries, in what has been described by many as a stunning display of generosity and camaraderie.

The revered Nnewi entrepreneur, popularly known as Omekannaya or Omekadad, sponsored the high-profile vacation for his trusted associates — collectively known as Team Omekadad or Ibeto Boys (IBB) — as a gesture of appreciation for their staunch loyalty, friendship, and shared values.

The travel entourage, which includes traditional rulers, corporate giants, community leaders, and media professionals, took off over the weekend and is expected to visit multiple key cities across Europe during the exclusive tour. This was corroborated by a video recently shared by media guru, Cornel Osigwe, showing members of the travel team in Barcelona.

Notable figures in the entourage include the respected traditional ruler of Uruagu-Nnewi, H.R.H. Obi Afam Obi, Ogidi III; Mrs. Ngozi Ukachukwu, a prominent figure in the state; President General of Uruagu-Nnewi and CEO of Organizer Oil & Gas, Chief Innocent Okoli; Managing Director of Solid Base Impex, Mr. Paul Ileka; a respected associate, Mr. Patrick Ubajaka; the MD of Damax Events, Mr. Cosmas Ngonadi; Dr Nelson Omenugha and the founder of Onye Ije Media, Mazi Ifeanyi Nwosu, among others.

Interestingly, most of the individuals on the trip are themselves men and women of notable means and social standing, capable of independently financing such international vacations. However, in a rare philanthropic gesture, Chief Ibeto chose to personally sponsor the entire travel experience for the team.

The tour, which has been described as both a recreational retreat and a mark of solid brotherhood, showcases Ibeto’s character not only as a successful industrialist but also as a man who deeply values loyalty, relationships, and rewarding consistency.

Chief Ibeto, who hails from Nnewi, is well known across Nigeria and beyond for his outstanding success in the industrial sector and his commitment to uplifting people around him. Through his actions and numerous initiatives, he continues to inspire a new generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and public servants.

Analysts and observers alike say the billionaire’s latest gesture reflects a culture of gratitude and empowerment, which has been a defining feature of his legacy over the years.

This reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that the European vacation by Team Omekadad is expected to last several days, covering cultural, business, and recreational engagements across various countries on the continent.

Alumni Association Empowers Members With N1.3M Each in Anambra.

The Christ the King Old Boys Association, CKCOBA) Class of 1998 has empowered five of their members with Six million, six hundred and sixty thousand naira (N6.6m to start up businesses or boost the already existing ones

Each of the beneficiaries smiled home with a cheque of one million, three hundred and thirty thousand naira (N1.330)

Speaking during the event at the premises of Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha, Anambra State, the President of the association, Anietonwa Kingsley Ajulufo, said that their target initially was ten million naira, but they couldn’t achieve that, so they had to rely on what they realized.

He stated that one of the beneficiaries lost his shop in Lagos and had an accident with his vehicle as well.
In the process, said the president, he lost a lot of money, while the other was battling with health challenge which in the process drained his business capital

“So we did our empowerment fundraising for five of our classmates. We have been doing this for the past seven years since we have been grouped in 2015.

“The unique thing for this year is that we picked five, which is the maximum so far for the association, previously we picked two or three for empowerment” said the president.

Continuing the president said, “What we do is once you identified with this association that you are in this kind of predicament, we go through your records, we consider three things which is your talent, treasure and time, in whatever case you have contributed to the association determines your eligiblity.

“Anybody that did not contribute his time, talent or treasure, the eligibility of such person will be questioned, if you don’t give money to the association, all hands are not equal, during election, come out, pick up one leadership position, offer your time to the association, in that way, you are also sacrificing for the association.

“You can do one thing as an executive or committee member. There are members here that have not missed our events for the past ten years. There are also our members who lives in this Onitsha but they have not attended our event, so this is our motivating factor”

Earlier in his opening remarks, Ajulufo urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money by venturing into businesses that yields profit stating that some traders make a lot of profits in foodstuffs business than those in electronics business and advised them to start small, not to wait until it is big.

“There is little things you can venture into that would multiply this money to an unimaginable height within one year or so, there are different avenues to make money, bend down and look inwards, get a good location and everything will take it’s place” the president said.

3 High Profile Anambra Individuals Who May Not Support Soludo's Re-Election

They are very influential people in Anambra State even though they are not politicians, yet they wield enormous influence and command a large following. These respected individuals may not openly endorse any candidate due to their positions, but their body language may actually suggest otherwise. As it stands, they are likely not to throw their weight behind current Anambra Governor's reelection because of some personal encounter that left them bitter. According to some watchers, their criticism and aloofness may likely influence some voters on how to vote but whether it will cause serious political damage to the incumbent is subject for debate. They are:

Revd. Father Emmanuel Obinmma (Ebube Muonso)

He commands a lot of respect in Anambra because of his weekly Adoration program, the most attended religious activity in Anambra.
His opinions carry a lot of weight in the state. Since early this year, the fiery priest has not left any person in doubt that there's no love lost between him and the governor.
The priest has become one of the most vocal critics of the current administration in Anambra State.
He has tackled this administration on issues bothering sanitation, security and even taxation. The current administration has equally not spared him.

Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe

The current Obi of Onitsha may harbor discontent towards the current APGA administration. Recall the traditional ruler's strong reaction to the suspension of some traditional rulers who conferred chieftaincy titles on the late Senator Ifeanyi Uba, which prompted him to pen a scathing letter to the Governor. Since then, the administration has seemingly sought to diminish his influence, removing him as Chairman of the Anambra Traditional Rulers Council and replacing him with the traditional ruler of Obosi Kingdom. As a result,Igwe Achebe has abstained from attending state government events recently, and the government has noticeably ceased sending him goodwill messages on special occasions like Ofala and birthdays. His body language recently does not betray a person who may not support the Governor's reelection.

Archbishop Valerian Okeke

As a highly influential Catholic bishop in Anambra State, Archbishop Okeke is both feared and revered. Although the reason behind his apparent rift with the Governor remains unclear, he has publicly criticized the Anambra Burial Law promoted by the governor on two separate occasions in the presence of the governor. His absence at recent government events, including a project assessment invitation, further suggests his disapproval of the current administration. The opinions of some of his priests also seem to corroborate this stance, with some being vocal critics of the government.

"Why Only Few Qualified to Make Direct Transfers to Me During My Mum's Burial"-Zenco

Billionaire Business Mogul ,Zenco has revealed why he allowed direct transfers from few friends during Mother's funeral in Ukpor early this year.

The business mogul’s mother died in 2024, and her burial ceremony in Ukpor, Anambra State, in January,2025 quickly became one of the most talked-about events in the country.

Zenco spared no expense in honouring his mother, reportedly spending over one billion naira on her custom-made casket.

The ceremony featured luxury tents, cultural performances, fleets of exotic cars, and a long list of celebrities and high-profile figures.

In a recent video, Zenco claimed that only a few persons were allowed to make transfers to him.

He said that that anyone permitted to pay money into his account had to meet certain standards.

He said: “Do you know at my mother’s burial, so many people were blocked not to send money to my account, For you to pay money to my account you must be worth it.”

Six of the Nigerian Law School who were abducted while travelling from Anambra State to Adamawa have regained freedom.

The Benue Police Command confirmed this in a statement issued on Friday.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, said the six law students were heading for the Yola Campus of the Nigerian Law School when they ran into the kidnappers along the Benue-Taraba boundary.

"Village People Behind My Problems"-Former UNIZIK VC

According to Levi Chiefuna Esq, former Vice Chancellor (VC) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Mr Bennard Odo has scored an own for claiming that his village people are behind his woes.

Barr Chiefuna said that rather than blaming the innocent village people, the former VC should tow path of honour and publicly apologize for his misdeeds.

He said, “It all began when Federal University Gasau, in unprecedented effrontery, denied promoting Mr Benard Odoh to the rank of Professor and claimed to have no records of Mr Odoh among its staff.

“Mr Odoh was consequently not only sacked as the 7th Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka but the Council that appointed him was also sacked, apparently for want of due diligence.

“After his sack, Mr Odoh, in an interview with an international television station recently, blamed his woes on what he called ‘mischief makers’ who undermine his people as inferior.

“For Mr Odoh, some people were playing ethnic cards, and his removal was tied to prejudice against his Ebonyi State origins. Some people feel that I am not qualified because I come from Ebonyi State,”

Barr Chiefuna insisted that many people from Ebonyi State have actualized themselves outside Ebonyi in general and Anambra in particular, noting that Mr Odo’s allusion to discrimination against Ebonyi people cannot hold water.

“In a suit by an alumnus of Nnamdi Azikiwe University challenging Mr Odoh’s promotion to the rank of a professor, Mr Odoh, in a volte face, blamed his village people for his woes.

“He stated that his woes are traceable to his roughening some feathers in his native Ebonyi State, where he allegedly fought corruption.

“It is left to be seen how the court will react to this change of narrative. If the court believes this new narrative, it means that Odoh lied when he played the ethic card. Since the court does not pick and choose, it may well be that Odoh has scored an own goal,” he asserted.

Breaking:Kidnappers Abduct, Kill Son of Anambra APGA Woman Leader

A tragic incident has occurred in Anambra State following the assassination of Mr Martins Onyekesi

Martins Onyekesi was until his assassination the CEO of Magnet Group and the son of APGA State Woman Leader, Mrs Esther Onyekesi.

According to reports, Martins was kidnapped recently from his family house. The kidnappers demanded ransom, but unfortunately, his life was lost despite efforts to secure his release.

Reacting to the incident, Uzu Okagbue, the YPP Deputy Governorship candidate, has condemned the constant killing and insecurity in Anambra State. He expressed his condolences to the family and called for increased security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Uzu wrote:

"It is yet another black day in Anambra; a land of promise now drenched in pain. A day that drags the heart through thorns, that mocks every hope once held for a better tomorrow. A day that reminds us, once again, that we are being governed by shadows, not leaders. By empty noise, not vision. By cowardice, not courage.

"Martins, this wound cuts deep.
We are shattered, not just by your tragic murder by criminals after you were kidnapped in your family house, but by the deafening silence and criminal irresponsibility of an administration that has handed over our streets to monsters. We are not just grieving a brother, a son, a light, we are confronting a truth more brutal than bullets: there is no government in Anambra State.

"What we have is a regime of press releases and photo ops, while blood soaks our soil and fear rules our nights. Our people are slaughtered like animals. The wicked walk freely. The righteous are buried silently. And all we hear from the government house are echoes of confusion, denial, and helplessness.

"I can only begin to imagine the pain of a mother whose vibrant, visionary son, so full of hope and plans for his family, is suddenly no more. It’s truly unimaginable. Nne, Ndo! Ezi na ulo Onyekesi, Ndo nu!

Who is next?

"This is no longer a happenstance; it is a death rattle. The spirit of Anambra is fading, gasping, suffocating beneath the weight of a failed and absent government.

"Where are the leaders? Hiding behind protocol and tinted windows while our best and brightest fall. Where is the outrage from those elected to protect us? Have we become so accustomed to mourning that we now embrace it like tradition?

"Shame on every one of us who folds their arms in silent surrender.
Shame on a government that has normalized death, glorified mediocrity, and abdicated its duty to govern.
Shame on us for praying when we should be organizing; whispering when we should be screaming, and for waiting when we should be acting!

"Anambra, this is not about politics. This is about survival.
This is about reclaiming our future from a system that has betrayed our dead and endangered our living.

"We must rise!
We must rid this state of the criminals in our streets, and the complicit administration that let them roam".

Education5 Most Overhyped Degrees In Nigeria (2025) by AnambraPeople(op): 8:23pm On Jul 25, 2025
5 Most overhyped degrees in Nigeria (2025)

In today’s fast-evolving job market, degrees once viewed as a guaranteed ticket to success can leave graduates underemployed or forced to retrain. Rising enrolment has saturated certain fields while employers increasingly prioritize practical skills and demonstrable experience over academic credentials.

Below are 5 degrees whose appeal outstrips their actual career prospects, along with the reasons they fall short.

Mass Communication
Traditional training focuses heavily on theory and print journalism, leaving many unprepared for digital-first content creation, driven marketing, and technical broadcast skills now sought by employers.

English and Literary Studies
While the study of literature sharpens critical thinking the lack of direct vocational pathways makes it hard to translate into steady employment.Overreliance on teaching roles or editorial positions in short supply drives many graduates to pursue additional qualifications in law education or digital publishing just to compete.

International Relations and Diplomacy
This field attracts ambitious students, but actual openings in foreign service embassies and international NGOs are extremely limited. Curriculum emphasis on theory often overlooks practical skills such as foreign language proficiency, policy analysis software, and grant writing that organisations require.

Theatre Arts and Performing Arts
Despite Nigeria’s vibrant entertainment industry, formal degrees in theatre arts rarely guarantee a sustainable career. Most actors, directors, and producers rely on on-the-job apprenticeships and networks outside academia.

Graduates often pivot to related areas such as media production, event management, or corporate training to find reliable work.

Sociology and Psychology
Understanding human behaviour is valuable, but local demand for sociologists and clinical psychologists remains low, and licensure processes can be lengthy and costly.

Many graduates end up in generic administrative roles or complement their degree with certifications in counselling, human resources management, or market research to become employable.

Industrial Pharmacists Begin Construction Of Modern Research Centre In Anambra

The Association of Industrial Pharmacists of Nigeria has commenced the construction of a modern research centre in Anambra State, aimed at boosting pharmaceutical research and quality assurance in the region.

The project, located at the Coordinated Wholesale Centre in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, marks a milestone in NAIP’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector.

The new centre is part of the plan to establish similar facilities in key locations across Kano, Lagos, and Anambra.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, NAIP National Chairman, Bankole Ezebuilo, expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for donating the land free of charge.

He hailed the project as a foundation for improving drug security and organising the pharmaceutical market.

“NAIP is laying the foundation for this centre in Anambra, and this will significantly enhance pharmaceutical practice in Nigeria and beyond,” he said.

Ezebuilo reaffirmed NAIP’s commitment to infrastructure development and capacity building for the local workforce.

He stressed, “With the right infrastructure and support, we can elevate the standards of pharmaceutical practice in Nigeria.”

Also, the Past President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Azubuike Okwor praised Anambra Governor for his leadership in pharmaceutical development.

Meet 3 Most Successful Transporters From Anambra State

Anambra State has been a hub for entrepreneurial spirit and innovative business ideas, particularly in the transportation sector. Among the numerous transporters from the state who have made a mark in the industry, three individuals stand out for their remarkable success stories. These transport moguls have not only built thriving businesses but have also contributed to the state's economic growth and development.

In this article, we highlighted the achievements of three of the most successful transporters from Anambra State, who have demonstrated leadership and innovation in their transport businesses.

Chief G U Okeke - founder, GUO Transport.

In the wake of the Nigerian Civil War, young Godwin Ubaka Okeke began offering rides in his father’s car. It was a modest endeavor, born of necessity, but one that would eventually grow into a transportation empire.

Now a billionaire and widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost transport magnates, Okeke, known simply as GUO, founded GUO Transport Ltd, a leading intercity bus service and subsidiary of G. U. Okeke & Sons Ltd. Over the decades, the company has become a household name across Nigeria’s highways, offering passenger and logistics services that span major cities and international corridors.

GUO Transport Company Ltd was founded in 1980 as a division of G. U. Okeke & Sons Ltd. GUO Transport operates an extensive terminal network across Nigeria, with a strong presence in major urban centers and regional capitals. The company maintains multiple terminals in Lagos, including Agege, Ajah, Alaba, Coker, and Ejigbo, catering to the densely populated commercial hub.

In Abuja, the nation’s capital, GUO serves commuters through terminals in Gwagwalada, Gwarinpa, and Utako.

Apart from these, it operates international routes like Ghana and Benin. It has over 1500 vehicles in its fleet.

Chief Vincent Obianodo, Founder, The Young Shall Grow Motors

Chief Vincent Obianodo is the founder of The Young Shall Grow Motors, one of Nigeria’s largest and most respected transport companies. Born in Neni, Anambra State, Chief Obianodo’s journey into business began with humble beginnings.

After moving to Kano in search of better opportunities, he started out repairing punctured tyres, an in-demand skill at the time. His dedication to quality service soon attracted a steady stream of customers.

Not long after, he transitioned into the transport sector as a bus conductor. By 1972, he had saved enough to purchase his first minibus, starting a small transport service on the Enugu–Onitsha route. A year later, he moved operations to Lagos and added two locally assembled Mercedes-Benz 911 buses to his fleet.

Thanks to his keen understanding of the transport business and a reputation for excellent customer service, his company grew rapidly. By the late 1970s, he had introduced interstate services and luxury buses, expanding his routes and earning customer loyalty. In 1984, he formally incorporated The Young Shall Grow Motors, which today operates over 1,000 buses across Nigeria and West Africa.

Dr. Chidi Anyaegbu, Founder, Chisco Transport

Founded in 1981 by Chief Dr. Chidi Anyaegbu (MFR), Chisco Transport began as a modest spare parts retail business in southeastern Nigeria. Today, it stands as a leading player in West Africa’s transportation and logistics sector, with over 800 fleet capacity, extensive warehousing and distribution networks, and more than 35 years of operational experience.

Headquartered in Nigeria, Chisco Transport provides road transport services across major cities, including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Onitsha, while also serving international routes to Togo, Accra (Ghana), and Abidjan (Benin Republic). Its footprint across the West African coast makes it one of the few indigenous transport companies with reliable cross-border operations.

The company has also included courier and logistics operations. The courier aspect of the business Chisco express commenced operations on March 24, 2020.

The company wants to becoperational in over 12 international markets across Africa and to grow profit to $20 million, with a valuation of $500 million by December 2030.

Abia Indigene Gets Appointed as Anambra’s Accountant General.

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has appointed Mr. Joachim Achor, a native of Abia State, as the Accountant General of Anambra State.

This appointment marks a decisive departure from the longstanding tradition of reserving top government positions exclusively for state indigenes and reinforces the Soludo administration’s commitment to meritocracy and inclusion.

Since assuming office in 2022, Governor Soludo has consistently demonstrated a bold and reformist vision by appointing non-indigenes into critical roles in his government, including as Permanent Secretaries—an unprecedented development in the political history of the state.

Mr. Achor’s elevation is not just symbolic; it is the culmination of a remarkable journey marked by resilience, professional excellence, and steadfast dedication to public service within the Anambra State Civil Service.

What Stanel Boss, Dr Stanley Uzochukwu Said About Billionaire Tailor, Seyi Vodi

Billionaire fashion designer Seyi Vodi celebrated his 50th birthday in Abuja recently.

It was attended by the high and mighty in Nigeria, politicians, Business Executives, bankers , who is who in the society.

Stanel group ceo, Dr Stanley Uzochukwu was among the dignitaries that graced the occasion.

Celebrating Seyi Vodi at 50 , Dr Uzochukwu took to his Instagram page and wrote:

"I have known vodi for over 20 years.

"Many people know Seyi Vodi as the fashion powerhouse — the man who has styled presidents, celebrities, and dignitaries across the world. But one thing many don’t know is his deep spiritual discipline. I’ve met him on long fasts, 21 days, 30 days, quietly seeking God, while running his business with excellence. He’s not just stylish on the outside; he’s spiritually grounded on the inside.

"Vodi also embodies the values I live by and teach, I call them keys to success:

God. Resilience. Hardwork. Consistency. Constant Upgrade.

"When we started out in Abuja, Vodi used bedsheet material to sew for us, and styled it to perfection. That same man now designs his own fabrics, owns one of the most respected fashion brands in Africa, and inspires a generation.

"I was honoured to attend the 50th birthday celebration of @seyivodi with my friends @senatorken_ n_ CEO of Aroda Finance, and Dr. Uzochukwu Akunedozie CEO of @blakeresort , the show of love was indeed a humbling experience. Presidents, Governors, global citizens, dignitaries from all walks of life were in attendance and most notably, the presence of the EFCC Chairman… what else can endorse a man’s credibility better?

"It is also very important to mention that Seyi Vodi didn’t build his empire through government contracts. Everything he owns came from one thing, tailoring, done with excellence, consistently, that’s rare!

"At 50, he remains a shining model of what is possible when you stay true to your craft and to God.

"Happy Golden Jubilee, my brother.
Here’s to more years of relevance, impact, and legacy.

Ex-Minister, Chidoka Sponsors Health Insurance for 1,000 Youths,Women in Anambra.

Former Minister of Aviation and Chancellor of the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, Chief Osita Chidoka, has announced the provision of one year’s free health insurance for over 1,000 youths and women in Obosi community under the Nneka Chidoka Outreach Programme.

This initiative, undertaken in partnership with the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, reflects Chief Chidoka’s enduring commitment to expanding access to affordable healthcare and supporting state-led programmes that promote public welfare.

The announcement was made during the Outing visit by the newly formed Ositadimma Age Grade, young men and women born in 1985 and 1986, who adopted Chief Chidoka’s name in recognition of his leadership and service to Obosi. The visit took place at his country home, in the presence of the Ndichie, Abummadu, elders, and other community stakeholders.

Chief Chidoka disclosed that over 300 members of the Ositadimma Age Grade would be enrolled immediately onto the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme at ₦12,500 per person, with other civic youth organisations in Obosi to follow shortly, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to over 1,000. Staffs of the Agency were present to commence the registration.

“Health insurance is not a luxury. It is a civic right and a public good,” Chidoka stated. “I am proud to support the Anambra State Government’s efforts to make quality healthcare accessible to our people.”

Beyond healthcare, Chief Chidoka outlined a Four-Point Agenda to guide the age grade’s activities and ensure its long-term contribution to community development:

• Health Insurance Scheme: Fully embrace the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme and encourage wider enrolment beyond the group.

• Savings Culture: Establish a cooperative savings scheme that will enable the group to undertake a significant community project by their 10th anniversary.

• Group Life Insurance: Put in place a group life insurance policy to provide social protection and ensure mutual support in times of adversity.

• Public School Monitoring: Act as community monitors of the Governor Charles Soludo-led administration’s free education policy to ensure that no child in Obosi is left behind.

To support the savings initiative, Chief Chidoka donated ₦500,000 as seed capital for the age grade’s fund, to be lodged with Adike Microfinance Bank, Obosi. Chiefs Mgbakogu and Udemba donated ₦150,000 and ₦200,000 while various other sums were donated by other Chiefs present.

“Your Golden Decade — that critical period between the ages of 25 and 35 — is your foundation, use it for family, community and country. Apply Uche, Uchu na EgwuChukwu in all your endeavours.” Chidoka advised.

Describing the age-grade system as a uniquely Igbo institution for social progress, Chief Chidoka called on the group to sustain the tradition through innovation, collective responsibility, and a deep sense of service.

In appreciation, the Ositadimma Age Grade presented Chief Chidoka with an Award of Honour, recognising his visionary leadership, philanthropy, and enduring commitment to youth empowerment and community development.

This initiative reaffirms Chief Osita Chidoka’s stature as a patriotic son of Anambra, a firm supporter of progressive state policies, and a tireless advocate for community-led transformation.

EducationAssessing The Contenders For The Substantive Vice Chancellor Position At Chukwue by AnambraPeople(op): 2:30pm On Jul 21, 2025
Assessing the Contenders for the Substantive Vice Chancellor Position at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University

By Azuka Okoli, PhD

As we speak, a very hot contest is going on at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, formerly, Anambra State University, for the eventual emergence of the University’s substantive Vice Chancellor. The contest, which has about seven contenders, can be narrowed down to the following four persons; Professor Uchechukwu Vincent Okpala of the Department of Physics, Prof. Patrick Chike Osegbue of the Department of Political Science, Professor Leonard Nnaemeka Onuba of the Department of Geology and Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, the University’s Acting Vice Chancellor.

In some sense, this assessment has become necessary because the university ought to reflect the highest possible standards and force of social change that forms the compass with which the larger community is x-rayed. Put differently, the University ought to set a moral code; a general sense of duty, and a pattern that influences the larger community. In perspective, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University is crucial in evaluating what is right and wrong with Anambra State. Therefore, what happens during an important exercise as the process of the selection of the Vice Chancellor of the University matters, fundamentally. Both how – the process, and who emerged eventually, are essential elements that shape Anambra towards the desired direction that the State must go in the best interest of the public good.

So far, the process in that election set by the Council Chairman of the University, Prof. Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, leaves more to be desired. For instance, he kept the contest open without baselines. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University might be the only University in the world as of today, that does not place any demand on the qualities and certain specifics required to occupy the position of Vice Chancellor of a University. To buttress, the application for Vice Chancellor of a university is often tied to the applicant’s years of experience as a professor, proficiency in research and academic activities, experience in leadership positions, value added to the University in terms of what he or she has attracted or is capable of attracting to the Institution, social capital, global competitiveness of applicant, among other considerations. But at COOU, the only thing required to contest the position was just for the applicant to be a professor. This is both odd and strange given the enormous responsibilities attached to the office. A visionary and prepared Vice Chancellor with a global worldview, social reach, and academic competence, can transform Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University into a force of change in Anambra State. Therefore, to be casual in this process, without any deliberate stopgaps in the selection process speaks to a deliberate reduction of this important procedure to an all-comers affair. No system can produce the desired leadership through such a causal and unrestrained process.

But in any case, let us now take some time to look at the contenders for the position of Vice Chancellor at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, and assess their suitability for the leadership of such an Institution in a State like Anambra, at a time like this.

Uchechukwu Vincent Okpala: Professor of Physics at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. The easiest way in today’s world to access one’s footprints is by a simple search on Google or AI. As of today, Embassies rely on internet footprints to decide if an applicant is deserving of a visa to their country. For scholars, presence on Google Scholar is the very least evidence of their scholarly competence. However, a look at the Google Scholar page of Professor Okpala showed that the last time he published an article was in 2021. This is like saying that the last time a businessman made a business deal was four years ago. Without belabouring the fact, such a businessman is obviously out of business. Similarly, if a trader in scholarship has not produced any scholarly material in many years, he can’t be considered to still be in the scholarship trade. More so, that a scholar can go on for over four full years without research or any rigorous article from him further suggests that he apparently no longer has something to offer. But even more, the Google Scholar page of Professor Uchechukwu showed that he has just about 61 citations. His profile on Google Scholar can be accessed here: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=xJ0uzqMAAAAJ&hl=en.

Worst still, Professor Uchechukwu Okpala has zero presence on Scopus, a globally recognized interdisciplinary scientific indexing platform for scholars whose works meet global standards. But, somehow, he wants to be the Vice Chancellor of an important and strategic University like Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.

Patrick Chike Osegbue: Professor Patrick Chike Osegbue is of the Department of Political Science at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. According to his Google Scholar profile, Chike Osegbue is a professor of Political Economy and Development Studies. He has only 31 citations and was last published in 2018. In the last five years, Professor Chike Osegbue has not made any indexed publications. He has not appeared anywhere in any part of the world to deliver an important address on any noteworthy event. Also, he has not gone anywhere to make a paper presentation on politics, political economy, and development conversations which are on the front burner both locally and internationally. His Google Scholar profile can be perused here: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=6rd1h6sAAAAJ&hl=en

More troubling, Professor Chike Osegbue has zero presence on Scopus. This is a verdict to the effect that he has not produced an article that meets the global standards of Scopus. Yet, in a way, he believes he is suitable to lead a University in this age and time. What would be his grounds to measure up at international forums? In fact, how would he be able to be identified and invited to an important global gathering that will give the university the required footprint and visibility?

Leonard Nnaemeka Onuba: Professor Leonard Nnaemeka Onuba is of the Department of Geology, at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. A look at his Google Scholar page shows he is a proficient scholar with 480 citations. His latest publication was made in 2025. Professor Leonard’s Google Scholar page shows a level of seriousness that is lacking in the other profiles so far. His profile can be accessed here: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=u70A_DAAAAAJ&hl=en

To demonstrate his global quality scholarly works, Professor Leonard Onuba has a presence on Scopus. However, beyond his scholarly articles, there is no evidence that he is bridging any gap in society with his scholarship. His social capital appears to be very insignificant and his reach appears quite small in terms of engagements outside his scholarship enclave. For instance, even on YouTube, a global data page for all videos and various engagements, Onuba has zero presence. He has no real space in the real world and it is doubtful that he can monster the influence to lead a university in this age and time and meet the challenges of COOU in today’s world.

Kate Azuka Omenugha: Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, second Nigerian female professor of Mass Communications, is the Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. With a strong presence on Google Scholar, amassing about 754 citations, Professor Omenugha, in scholarship, easily outpaced her fellow contenders for the Vice Chancellor of the university by a remarkable margin. To demonstrate her quality as a global scholar, Omenugha has a solid presence on Scopus, among other global scholarship rating platforms. Her profile on Google Scholar can be seen here: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=P8gDzPoAAAAJ&hl=en

Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha is also the only contender out of the four examined who has a Wikipedia page, further demonstrating her formidable position as a scholar with global acquaintance. On YouTube, her presence dates back to over a decade ago featuring her diverse media appearances on television to discuss issues of public interest on several topics. This strongly shows Madam Omenugha’s solid drive to bridge the gap between scholarly relevance and meeting real societal needs. Omenugha served meritoriously as Anambra’s Commissioner for Education for the longest time in the State’s history and during these years, she introduced innovative teaching and learning techniques during the COVID-19 experience. Her tenure as Education Commissioner in Anambra State remains the ‘golden age’ of education in Anambra State with different academic laurels accruing to the state. Appointed as the Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University about nineteen months ago, by the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, Professor Kate Omenugha has given more than a brilliant account of her stewardship and confidence reposed in her by the governor. Leveraging her extensive social capital, Professor Omenugha has been driving COOU as a modern institution, pushing for, and gaining global partnerships, fellowship, funding, and recognition. So far, not only that she has attracted several infrastructures to the school, but she has also changed the culture of the institution, quietly transforming it into a clean and healthy learning environment for teachers, staff, and students.

Here we have it and as the timeless saying goes; one cannot give what s/he does not have. In the final analysis, here presented unfiltered, are the people who are the major contenders for the number one position at the Anambra-owned University. If our goal is to attain the governor’s vision of a prosperous homeland for Anambra State, then, we must deploy nothing but our very best in all sensitive positions, especially at the University. This is considering that the University is the purveyor of knowledge, dreams, and incubator of the state’s present and future managers.

CrimeESUT Female Student, Boyfriend Replay Movie, Plan Own Kidnap In Anambra. by AnambraPeople(op): 12:22pm On Jul 21, 2025
ESUT female student, boyfriend Replay Movie, Plan Own Kidnap in Anambra.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects involved in a self-orchestrated kidnap incident designed to extort money from the victim’s own family.

The suspects are Chinecherem Okonkwo ‘f’ age 28years old and Chinecherem Aronu ‘m’ age 30years old

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga who disclosed this in a statement in Awka on Monday said, “Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) acting on an intelligence-led investigation of a disturbing report of alleged abduction of Chinecherem Nwaokoye, a female student of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), stormed a lodge located at UNIZIK Temp Site, Awka, where the victim was found alive and in the company of her male accomplice.

According to the report, Chinecherem had earlier contacted her family on Tuesday, 8th July 2025, informing them that she was returning home from school but never arrived.

Her phone remained switched off throughout that day. On Wednesday, 9th July 2025, her family received a call from an unknown male voice who claimed responsibility for her kidnap and demanded a ransom of ₦10,000,000 (Ten Million Naira) only.

After negotiations, the ransom was reduced to ₦3,000,000, and a part payment of ₦1,000,000 was later paid into the victim’s bank account.

Upon interrogation, the duo confessed to staging the kidnap as a plot to extract money from the victim’s family.

The female suspect, Chinecherem Nwaokoye, admitted she masterminded the plan after watching a movie and intended to give the money to her boyfriend to start a business.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed that the suspects be charged to court without delay and condemned the incident as a clear sign of deepening moral decay among some youths in the society. He warned that the Command will not tolerate such criminal deception and called on parents and guardians to pay closer attention to the activities and peer influence on their children.
