House of Reps Committee on Local Content Visits Zobis Cables Onitsha.

The House of Representatives Committee on Nigeria Local Content Development and Monitoring has formally commended Zobis Cable Nigeria Ltd., located in Onitsha, Anambra State, for its professionalism, innovation, and resilience.

During a visit on Thursday, the committee, led by Chairman Hon. Boma Goodhead, expressed deep satisfaction with the significant industrial progress achieved by Zobis Wires and Cable Nigeria Ltd., recognizing it as one of the emerging indigenous electrical cable manufacturers in the country.

Hon. Boma said that the visit reaffirmed Nigeria’s capacity to produce world-class industrial materials locally, capable of meeting the technical demands of the oil and gas, energy, and construction sectors.
She described the operations at Zobis Cable as a strong demonstration of Nigerian ingenuity, technical excellence, and a steadfast commitment to national industrial growth.
“As the Committee of the National Assembly, we are particularly impressed with the company’s strict adherence to the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, its deployment of cutting-edge production technologies, and its ambitious drive toward value addition and import substitution. The scale of investment here proves that indigenous manufacturers are ready to compete on a global stage if provided with the right policy support, visibility, and access to the oil and gas value chain,” Hon. Boma stated.

She further highlighted that this commitment aligns perfectly with President Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed national agenda for industrial transformation, particularly his directives on prioritizing “Nigeria’s First Goods and Services.”

The committee chairman also noted President Tinubu’s clear directive that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies especially those in the oil and gas, power, and infrastructure sectors must prioritize patronage of locally manufactured goods and services.
This approach he noted is viewed as a strategic path to sustainable economic growth, job creation, and technological self-reliance.

Hon. Boma assured that the House Committee fully supports the President’s vision and will continue to provide the necessary legislative framework and oversight to ensure its full implementation across Nigeria’s industrial ecosystem.

“This visit is part of our broader legislative mandate to promote, monitor, and strengthen local content participation nationwide. Companies like Zobis Cable are sending a clear message that the era of dependence on imported cables and electrical materials is giving way to a new phase of Nigerian industrial self-reliance and homegrown technological advancement,” she said.

She reassured Zobis Cable and other indigenous manufacturers that the National Assembly will continue to provide legislative and policy backing to enhance local production, attract further investment, and ensure Nigerian products receive due recognition and patronage from major operators and regulators in the oil and gas industry.

“We commend the management and staff of Zobis Cable Nigeria Ltd. for their professionalism, innovation, and resilience. Their success exemplifies the spirit of Nigerian Content ‘Made in Nigeria, Trusted by the World.’ Together, we will continue working toward a future where Nigeria’s industrial capacity defines its economic strength and technological sovereignty,” Hon. Boma added.
Following the facility inspection, Mr. John Ezeobi, CEO of Zobis Cable Nigeria Ltd., expressed deep appreciation for hosting the House Committee on Local Content, describing it as a great honor and a source of encouragement to further excellence.
Mr. Ezeobi highlighted that local manufacturers have been working diligently over the past years to reduce the cost of cables, aiming to discourage imports.
“When imported cables offer little financial advantage, importation naturally declines,” he explained.

He appealed to the government for increased financial support to enable cable manufacturers to expand their capacity to meet both local and international demand.
“We need government assistance to access funding. Indigenous companies have the capacity to manufacture cables at scale, and with adequate funding, we can even eliminate copper imports. Many companies have the potential to source copper locally, which would significantly reduce production bottlenecks,” he added.

Regarding power supply, Mr. Ezeobi noted that while every manufacturer manages their power source, sufficient funding would allow them to generate electricity independently and fully power their factories.
He also emphasized that the committee’s visit would help raise awareness among oil and gas companies about the availability and quality of locally manufactured cables, encouraging them to buy domestically rather than importing.

“We are progressing steadily and are fully committed to satisfying our customers. We are continuously developing and expanding our capacity to meet growing demand. With ample land and ongoing construction, we are poised for future growth,” Mr. Ezeobi added.

Other top dignitaries that attended the event include Hon Odi Okojie, Engr Felix Omatsola(Executive Secretary Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board,)Hon Obinna Chidoka and Anambra State Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Hon. Christian Udechukwu

UDUF Africa:Why Nigerian banks lend me money without collateral – Coscharis

The Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Coscharis Group, Dr Cosmas Maduka, has stated that transparency, accountability, honesty, trustworthiness and decency were the reasons why Nigeria banks are lending him money without demanding for a collateral in accordance with the banking law.

Maduka disclosed this while mentoring Nigeria youths on how to be self-disciplined, responsible, hardworking, determined, dedicated and focused in their various fields of endeavour at a two-day 2025 Under 45 CEOs Business and Leadership Summit with the topic: “From power to purpose, leading with ethical courage, organized by Ultimate Destiny Uplifters Foundation (UDUF Africa), held at Bishop Patterson auditorium , All Saints Cathedral,Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State, on Saturday.

According to him, faith in God, self-belief and trust are what every Nigerian youth need at the moment to grow and develope themselves and the country at large.

“I didn’t do money ritual to grow, I made my money through faith in God and the trust people bestowed upon me. What you build on people last longer than what you build for yourself. You wouldn’t believe that in the last thrity years I never signed cheque of Coscharis Group despite having Yorubas as my Group Managing Director and Financial controller respectively as a typical Igbo man from Nnewi, Anambra State.

” I am reciprocating that trust people, investors and Nigeria Financial Institutions bestowed on me that have graciously lead me to the position I found myself today. I am looking for value and not tribalism as a humble man who started hustling as an Akara seller in Jos, Plateau State.

“You must learned to be trusted if you want to change your negative narratives in this World. Today, we live in a place where trust is almost impossible. Nobody will believe your vision and passion until you believe in yourself. You are the change Nigeria is looking for.

“I didn’t start life as a CEO, I started as an Akara seller in Jos, Plateau State, after I lost my father at the age of four.

” I rose to this position I am today, through faith in God and self-belief.

“I didn’t do my business along government sectors, I didn’t build Coscharis to prove that I am a powerful Nigeria, I built it because I believe that business is a calling. My guiding principles is whatever thing you do, do it as unto the Lord. Success is not about what you gain but about who you become and how you serve the society. Success without integrity lead to destruction. Focus without purpose is like a motion without direction.

“Because of my honest determination to grow and my trustworthiness, banks in Nigeria are lending me money without demanding for collateral, and the bank that first risk the trust in me was Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB).

“In 1977, I founded Coscharis Motor, a one- man trading venture that grew into the Coscharis Group, a wholly Nigerian-owned conglomerate with interest spanning automobile, auto-assembly, logistics, IT, agriculture, medical equipment, food and beverages, and chemicals. Today, the group represents leading global brands such as BMW, Jaguar,Land Rover, Ford, Renault and roll royce with operations across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones and in Ghana, Sierra Leone and Japan respectively.

“When you live a life of integrity, people will trust you, investors will believe you and most importantly God would back you up. Do not look for change, you are the change Nigeria is yielding for. I therefore urged you all to used what you have learned here today to develop a vision that will change the socio-economic hardship Nigerians are currently going through at the moment, Maduka concluded.

In his opening remarks, founder of UDUF Africa, Dr. Ezuma Smart Chinedu, emphasized the importance of youth perseverance and acquiring necessary skills to achieve business goals.

He explain that the 2025 summit with the Theme; LeaderShift: Building a new mindset for ethical leadership, was to guide young entrepreneurs on how to remain afloat in their endeavors following the challenges faced by businesses in the country.

“It also aimed to enhance leadership and business management skills and encourage networking among over 200 participants drawn from various sectors of the economy.

Young Entrepreneur Builds Edifice for Parents in Childhood Neighborhood

A young businessman in his 30s, Mr. Ifeanyi Onwuachu, has built a state-of-the-art building for his parents in the same Onitsha neighborhood where he grew up over 30 years ago.

The edifice, a two storey white building is tastefully furnished with modern furniture and facilities.

Mr. Onwuachu said he built the house to express his heartfelt gratitude to his parents for their support and encouragement.

He credited their faith in him, even when the future seemed uncertain, for his success.

"Their belief in me pushed me to remain focused in my line of business, and having succeeded now, I want to make them proud," he stated.

The entrepreneur revealed that he deliberately chose to build the edifice in his childhood neighborhood to inspire younger people there. "I want to motivate them to know that no matter where they are, their dreams are valid," he emphasized.

Explaining further, Mr. Onwuachu said, "The main reason why I built this house for my parents within the environment I grew up was that I was born and raised here. Through the works we do, God increased us to be able to turn our parents from being tenants for a long time to becoming landlords. It's not that we cannot go and get them a new house in a choice location, but it's more like a motivation to younger ones who are growing up in hard times, thinking there's no hope. But in all things, you focus on God and continue to develop what you do. God can bless any man."

The housewarming ceremony coincided with the 62nd birthday of the matriarch and award investiture by Catholic Women Organization of CKP Parish Onitsha.

It also featured a Thanksgiving mass at Christ the King Parish, Onitsha, where parishioners rejoiced over the blessing of a new home for one of their own.

BusinessKanayo Eni-Ikeh: Meet Nigerian Who Turned a Dying Firm to ₦40 Billion Company by AnambraPeople(op): 8:50pm On Oct 13, 2025
Kanayo Eni-Ikeh: Meet Man who Revived a Dying Firm into a ₦40 Billion Corporate Powerhouse

When the story of transformative corporate leadership in Nigeria is told, the name Kanayo Eni-Ikeh will surely feature among the nation’s finest. A quintessential business strategist and reform-driven executive, Kanayo is today celebrated as Anambra Person of the Month, not merely for his brilliance, but for his rare ability to turn adversity into advantage, and a failing company into a ₦40 billion success story.

With over two decades of distinguished experience spanning banking, asset management, corporate governance, and global marketing operations, Kanayo’s professional trajectory reads like a masterclass in leadership, discipline, and innovation. Having excelled in several top corporate institutions, he earned a reputation for performance excellence long before fate handed him his greatest test, the challenge of reviving a dying enterprise.

That defining moment came in 2019, when he was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Atiat Leasing Ltd, a company that, at the time, was gasping for survival. Morale was low, debts were high, and the books looked grim. Yet, rather than back down, Kanayo saw an opportunity to rewrite history.

Barely 3 month into his appointment, COVID-19 pandemic struck, shaking global economies and crippling industries. It was the worst possible timing for a company already on life support. But Kanayo, known for his courage and composure under pressure, turned the crisis into a catalyst for change. He restructured operations, re-engineered the company’s financial systems, and inspired his team with a bold new vision rooted in efficiency, creativity, and strategic diversification.

The results were nothing short of phenomenal. In just five years, Atiat evolved from a struggling leasing firm into a diversified financial and technology ecosystem with assets exceeding ₦40 billion. The company now plays a central role in lending and financing, disbursing billions to empower SMEs, while also offering innovative fleet management and digital financial solutions that have positioned it among Nigeria’s emerging corporate giants.

A proud symbol of this rebirth is Atiat’s new ultra-modern corporate headquarters, majestically standing in the heart of Victoria Island, Lagos. The building, a masterpiece of architectural excellence, mirrors the resilience and boldness of the company’s journey — a physical embodiment of how far vision and discipline can go in redefining success.

Under Kanayo’s watch, Atiat not only paid off a staggering ₦7 billion investor equity but also rose from years of financial distress to become a profitable and respected industry leader. His leadership philosophy — rooted in transparency, teamwork, and innovation — has inspired a new corporate culture that values people as much as profits.

Colleagues describe him as “a leader with the Midas touch”, one who motivates through action and leads with uncommon foresight. For Kanayo, leadership is not about titles but about tangible transformation — about leaving an organization stronger than one met it.

From near collapse to commanding strength, the story of Atiat under Kanayo Eni-Ikeh stands as a timeless testament to what visionary leadership can achieve. It is a narrative of grit, brilliance, and rebirth — and proof that with focus, strategy, and resilience, even the most troubled institutions can rise again.

Indeed, Kanayo’s journey is not merely that of a CEO who saved a company; it is that of a man who built a legacy of excellence, one that will continue to inspire generations of young Nigerian professionals and entrepreneurs for years to come.

Atiat Launches State-of-the-art Head Office in Lagos, Rolls Out New Growth Agenda

What could be best described a new chapter has opened for Nigeria’s financial services landscape, as Atiat Limited formally commissioned its ultra-modern head office in Victoria Island, Lagos, while also unveiling an ambitious growth plan tagged Atiat 3.0.

The unveiling, which held on Thursday, September 18, attracted government officials, industry players, partners, and invited guests, who witnessed the rebirth of a company that has grown from an automotive leasing and finance pioneer into a fully-fledged financial services ecosystem. The new strategy also proudly positions Atiat as more than a leasing firm, but as an integrated hub offering finance, insurance, technology, and mobility solutions under one umbrella.

This reporter gathered that Atiat company’s ecosystem is structured into three core groups and segments, comprising an automotive and mobility arm that oversees rentals, fleet management, sales, and financing; a financial services group that covers insurance brokerage, lending, and structured products; and lastly a technology arm focused on IT support, software development, and digital integration. It was further gathered that each of these segment will feed into the other, enabling cross-pollination of data and expertise to deliver greater value to clients.

Speaking at the opening, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Atiat Limited, Mr. Kanayo Eni-Ikeh, described the new head office as the “nerve centre” of the company’s future, designed to foster collaboration and accelerate innovation. He explained that the launch of Atiat 3.0 reflects the company’s determination to scale beyond its traditional space into a multi-sector platform capable of serving businesses and households across Nigeria and West Africa.

According to him, Nigeria’s youthful population and expanding economy present opportunities that demand bold thinking. He noted that despite the country’s position as Africa’s largest economy, millions remain excluded from financial services, while insurance penetration is still abysmally low. The new Atiat model, he said, was crafted to close such gaps by providing a one-stop platform where customers can access mobility services, loans, structured finance, insurance, and technology-driven solutions seamlessly.

While stressing that the new headquarters was deliberately designed to encourage transparency, teamwork, and customer-centric service, Mr. Eni-Ikeh maintained that the building, located at 161C Raufu Taylor Close, off Idejo Street, Victoria Island, represents more than physical expansion but a statement of intent.

“We set out to build much more than a new office,” he explained, stressing that “This is the home of Atiat 3.0, where technology, talent, and vision converge to deliver growth for our clients and prosperity for the economy.”

Looking to the future, Mr. Eni-Ikeh revealed that Atiat intends to scale its operations across Nigeria and into West Africa. He also envisioned a future where every entrepreneur, family, or individual, whether in Lagos, Ibadan, or Kano, can access financing, acquire technology to automate operations, obtain logistics support, and insure their businesses, all through a single trusted relationship with Atiat.

On his own part, the Chairman of Atiat Limited, Mr. Obinna Ufudo, described the new office as a symbol of ambition and resilience. He said the company was building not just another financial services provider but an institution positioned to stand the test of time.

According to him, Atiat is creating a connected ecosystem that empowers Nigerian businesses and individuals with insurance, lending, technology, and mobility solutions in one place. He further reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to positioning the company as a trusted partner for growth and success in Nigeria’s evolving economy.

Contributing, the Executive Director of Business Development, Ms. Obiageli Ejiofor, highlighted the practical benefits of the integrated approach, explaining that the new model would allow Atiat to leverage expertise and data across its portfolio for the benefit of customers. She noted that cross-pollination of services, from credit scoring to product customisation, would create new value and unlock opportunities for individuals and businesses alike.

In their separate reactions, some witnesses and participants at the event described the feat as a great milestone for both Atiat and Nigeria’s financial sector, while also expressing optimism that the new headquarters is not an endpoint but the launchpad for greater ambition anchored on innovation, integration, and impact.

Some of the guests that attended the event include Mr. Bode Olanipekun (SAN), Managing Partner, Wole Olanipekun & Co.; Engr. Adeoye Fadeyibi, Independent Non-Executive Director, Atiat Ltd.; Mr. Kanayo Eni-Ikeh, MD/CEO, Atiat Ltd.; Mr. Ayo Aderibigbe, Chairman, Baines Credit MFB; Mr. Olatunde Busari (SAN), Chairman,VFD Group Plc.

HealthWhy Telemedicine Is The Future Of Healthcare In Nigeria — 24telemed Boss by AnambraPeople(op): 12:15pm On Sep 20, 2025
Why Telemedicine is the Future of Healthcare in Nigeria — 24Telemed Boss

Telemedicine has been described as the future of healthcare in Nigeria and the most reliable solution to the widening gap in medical access across the country.

This was the position of Mr. Dubem Odunze, Director of Project Management at 24Telemed, one of Nigeria’s foremost telemedicine platforms, who spoke in an interview to mark this year’s World Telehealth Week, observed globally from September 14 to 20 every year.

Raising alarm over the state of the nation’s healthcare system, Mr. Odunze noted that Nigeria continues to lose many of its best-trained doctors to developed countries in what is popularly known as the “japa syndrome.” According to him, the exodus has further strained the system, leaving vulnerable communities, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas, without access to qualified medical personnel.

“Given this situation and other similar realities in Nigeria's health sector, Telemedicine has become not just an alternative, but a necessity. By connecting patients to doctors remotely, it eliminates distance barriers and ensures that no Nigerian is left without professional medical care simply because of where they live,” he stressed.

Mr. Odunze highlighted the transformative power of digital healthcare, explaining that telemedicine allows citizens to consult with doctors at any time, from the comfort of their homes, without the costs and hurdles of physical hospital visits. He described the model as one capable of revolutionizing the sector, bridging inequalities, and ensuring more efficient use of Nigeria’s limited health workforce.

He particularly praised state governments that have embraced telehealth innovations, citing Anambra State as a leading example. According to him, through a strategic partnership with 24Telemed, the Anambra State Government has successfully established telemedicine centres in all 326 primary healthcare centres (PHCs) across the state, a development he said has significantly improved equitable access to doctors in underserved communities.

“This action has ensured that no citizen is left behind in the scheme of things as far as telemedicine is concerned,” Odunze said, while also commending the Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Primary Healthcare Agency and the State Commissioner for Health for their forward-looking policies. He noted that the initiative has already started yielding results by making healthcare more affordable, accessible, and responsive in rural communities.

Mr. Odunze urged other state governments to emulate the Anambra model by creating enabling environments for telemedicine to thrive. He maintained that the platform holds immense potential to reduce pressure on overstretched medical institutions, improve health outcomes, and redefine how healthcare is delivered nationwide.

“Telemedicine is the future. It is the bridge that connects patients with doctors wherever they are, at any time, without barriers. For a country facing the challenges Nigeria is facing in its health sector and other related sectors, telemedicine is truly the game changer,” he concluded.

With F9 in Mathematics and English, Ukachukwu Is not Qualified to Lead Anambra-- Soludo

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has described the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the November 8th governorship election in the state, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as a person not qualified to govern the state.

Soludo equally stated that the APC governorship candidate whose stock-in-trade is land-grabbing, should consider being a tipper driver rather than conceiving the idea of becoming governor of a state that has produced the likes of Chinua Achebe, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Akwueke Nwafor Orizu, Chuba Okadigbo, Dr. Alex Ekwueme and a host of other academic and political icons.

Soludo who made these observations during the inauguration of the APGA 2025 Anambra Governorship Election Campaign Council at the party's regional headquarters Agu-Awka at the weekend, maintained that Nicholas Ukachukwu is absolutely not qualified to govern Anambra State because he doesn't possess the requisite academic standing as evident in the credentials he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as his academic qualifications.

He said that the APC governorship candidate university failed English and Mathematics and wondered how he'll be able to read official documents and calculate Anambra money.

Speaking further he confirmed that the University purported to have awarded PhD degree to the APC candidate has no accreditation in the United States of America and that it is equally not recognized by the National University Commission (NUC), describing such qualification as fake and very unbecoming of someone aspiring to become governor of a state like Anambra.

The governor therefore revealed that in no distant time his government will begin to clampdown on people with fake certificates in the same manner he tackled the menace of fake native doctors, fake pastors and prophets and others involved in obnoxious practices, adding that the likes of Nicholas Ukachukwu are setting bad precedents for the younger generations.

The Chairman, Board of Directors, Keystone Bank Nigeria, Lady (Dr.) Ada Chukwudozie, gave the charge during the 2025 CIBN chartered banker induction and prize awards day held at Ijewere Hall Bankers House Victoria Island Lagos.

Lady Chukwudozie, who doubles as the Chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Southeast zone, also urged them to embrace lifelong learning, and treat every customer with fairness and respect, avoiding shortcuts and misconduct, as well as resist the temptations of quick gains.

While noting that the profession is both demanding and rewarding, she enjoined the inductees to stay true to its values, to enable them not only succeed, but to also help shape the future of banking in Nigeria.

"Esteemed inductees, your presence here today is evidence of your resilience, discipline, and determination. PoliticsThe NBA Conference In Enugu: A Master Stroke For The Image And Economy Of The So by AnambraPeople(op): 8:43am On Aug 30, 2025
The NBA Conference In Enugu: A Master Stroke For The Image And Economy Of The South East.

Micheal Amakeze

In recent times, the South-East has often been in the news for all the wrong reasons—resurgence of Biafran separatist movements, heightened insecurity, and reports ranking states in the region among the least investment-friendly and commercially viable.

These narratives have been amplified by the macabre chants of the Yoruba Ronuists, who at every turn urge easterners to “go back home,” painting that “home” as hostile and unwelcoming. Against this backdrop, the recently concluded Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual Conference in Enugu has proven to be a landmark event for the South East.

Enugu displayed stability, hospitality, and organizational competence. Beyond being a gathering of lawyers, the conference was a strategic soft-power victory for the South East—reshaping perceptions and biases, boosting the local economy, and fostering connections and opportunities. In the face of rising divisive rhetoric, the event stood as a subtle but firm statement that the South East remains invested in the unity of Nigeria and in democratic dialogue.

One of the most important outcomes of the conference was the political rebranding of the South East. In recent years, the region has been unfairly portrayed as unstable, synonymous with insecurity and secessionist agitations. By hosting a national conference that attracted legal luminaries, judges, academics, and policymakers from across the country, Enugu projected a counter-narrative: one of stability, hospitality, and intellectual vibrancy. The conference reaffirmed the South East as an integral part of Nigeria’s legal and political landscape, underscoring the region’s continued role in shaping national conversations on democracy and justice.
Equally significant were the economic benefits. The influx of thousands of delegates created an immediate boom for the local economy, particularly in the hospitality and service sectors. Hotels were fully booked, restaurants overflowed with patrons, transport operators prospered, and local businesses recorded unusual activity. Beyond these immediate gains, the successful hosting of the conference positioned Enugu as a viable destination for future high-profile national and international events.

This recognition opens doors to long-term opportunities in tourism, investment, and business.
The conference also had cultural significance. Attendees from across Nigeria experienced first-hand the hospitality and cultural richness of the Igbo people—through their cuisine, music, fashion, and art. Such exposure fosters cultural pride, corrects entrenched stereotypes, and promotes inter-ethnic understanding. For young lawyers in the region, the event was especially rewarding: it provided mentoring, networking, and learning opportunities that would ordinarily require costly trips to Lagos or Abuja.

The symbolism of hosting the NBA conference in Enugu cannot be overstated. Historically, Enugu served as the capital of Eastern Nigeria and remains the political and cultural heart of the Igbo nation. Hosting the NBA conference in this city was both a recognition of that legacy and a reaffirmation of Enugu’s centrality in national discourse. More importantly, it was a subtle but powerful message to those who would seek to sideline or underestimate the South East in Nigeria’s collective journey.

The NBA conference in Enugu was a symbolic and practical triumph for the South East. It reshaped the region’s image, stimulated its economy, showcased its culture, and reinforced Enugu’s status as a hub of intellectual and political activity. At a time when sectional divisions dominate national discourse, the conference stood as a resounding reminder that the South East is not isolated but remains an indispensable partner in Nigeria’s democratic and developmental journey.
It is my hope that the government of Enugu builds on the gains of the conference, and that South Eastern governments take a cue—transforming their states into destinations beyond Christmas and burials.

Anambra professor asks court to nullify Omenugha’s appointment as VC of Ojukwu varsity

One of seven candidates who contested for the Vice Chancellor position at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Prof. Chike Osegbue, has urged the National Industrial Court of Nigeria to void Prof. Kate Omenugha’s appointment as VC, deeming it unlawful.

In a suit numbered NICN/ARJ/275/2025, Osegbue seeks to be declared the rightful VC, claiming he topped the Governing Council’s recommended list of three candidates.

Recall that Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, who is the university’s visitor, appointed Omenugha on August 6 after a selection process led by a joint University Council and Senate committee, chaired by Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, the Pro-chancellor.

The suit names six defendants: Soludo, Anambra’s Attorney-General, Odinkalu, the COOU Council, the university itself, and Omenugha.

Osegbue argues that Omenugha’s appointment violates COOU’s 2014 Law, specifically Ordinance II(4)(d) and Statute VI(1), which mandate appointing the highest-scoring candidate or the second or third as recommended by the council.

“The governor’s decision to appoint Omenugha defies the university’s legal framework,” Osegbue’s suit contends, labeling the move “arbitrary and wrongful.”

He seeks a court ruling on whether Soludo has the authority to bypass the council’s recommendation and appoint Omenugha in violation of the 2014 COOU Law.

Osegbue further requests a declaration that Omenugha’s appointment is “null and void” for contravening the university’s statutes.

No hearing date has been set for the case.

Air Peace, United Nigeria Fix Yuletide Ticket Prices For Anambra, Others.

Two of Nigeria’s major domestic airlines, Air Peace Airlines and United Nigeria Airlines, have fixed their yuletide one-way economy tickets from Lagos and Abuja to the South East and South South at N350,500.

The affected routes include flights to Owerri, Enugu, Anambra, Port Harcourt, and Asaba, with inbound trips from these airports to Lagos and Abuja also priced at the same fare. The new rates are already displayed on the airlines’ official booking platforms.

The yuletide period typically witnesses a surge in passenger traffic, especially on eastern and southern routes, often leading to sharp increases in airfares.

For Air Peace, the N350,500 fare will apply from December 1, 2025 through January 30, 2026, while United Nigeria’s fare of N350,500 begins from December 11, 2025 and runs until the end of December. However, from January 1, 2026, United Nigeria will reduce its one-way fares on some routes, including Abuja to Asaba, Anambra, Port Harcourt, and Owerri, to N150,000.

Comparatively, fares charged to northern destinations during the yuletide appear lower. For instance, Air Peace tickets on the Lagos–Kano route are priced around N106,900, though a few days reflect a spike to N350,500. United Nigeria has set its Lagos–Kano fare at N220,499.

Air Peace will also charge N350,500 on days it operates flights from Lagos to Yola, up from its regular N240,200, while inbound passengers from Yola to Lagos will pay the same yuletide fare. On the Lagos–Sokoto route, United Nigeria has pegged its tickets at N250,000, compared to the usual N175,500.

Other domestic carriers have also adjusted their yuletide prices. Ibom Air set its Lagos–Uyo ticket at N190,800 from December 1, up from N152,700. Similarly, Arik Air has fixed its Lagos–Port Harcourt tickets at N191,997 between December 10 and December 28, after which the fare drops to N140,617.

The Anambra State House of Assembly has released a statement regarding Hon. Bernard Udemezue, a lawmaker representing Ayamelum State Constituency, who had made social media posts revealing constituency project funds and overhead allowances received by lawmakers.

The president of the forum, Chief Onyebuike Okonkwo, who raised the alarm in a press statement circulated to human rights community and the media in Anambra State appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to grant amnesty to Chief Nwangwu to allow him attend to his illness.

Anambra Community Raises $100,000 to Renovate Teaching Hospital

A United States of America, USA, – based medical practitioner and the Traditional Prime Minister of Abagana in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State, Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze has said that Igbo people in the diaspora remit more than $60 billion to Nigeria every year.

Anakwenze, who is the leader of Igbo people across the globe and runs a chain of hospitals that employs over 5,000 professionals in the USA, told journalists in Awka that the amount made great positive impact in the economy of the South East region

He added, however, that the main concern of Nigerians residing abroad is enthronement of the right leadership to make the country to take its rightful place among the comity of nations.

According to him, the people in the diaspora have been contributing significantly to the development of their communities and are prepared to do more, provided the right atmosphere is created.

He said, for instance, that his people in the USA have raised substantial amount to renovate the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, outpost in his community to improve healthcare services in the area.

“We are raising the funds from individual Abagana people and as a group. We already have over $100,000, which was raised last month. We’re also going to approach our people in other parts of the world to do the same. Whatever the government can do is good, but we want to help ourselves as a community,” he added.

“We have a lot of educated people and those in business who have a lot of money and they are prepared to support the development of their towns. All they need is to see that we are serious and the money will flow.

“The UNTH outpost has been abandoned and we want to make it big. It’s a federal government institution, but it’s been abandoned.”He argued that Nigeria could do much better than it is doing at the moment, lamenting that the problem is that the people running the governments are below average and that is why they are failing the people.

He stated: “Nigeria should be aiming to be a world power but we can’t achieve that with the kind of people ruling her. God gave us everything and we can’t manage them, which is very unfortunate. If we have people with brains, Nigeria will be a world power. At the moment, Nigeria is carrying last which is bad. We have to start producing, not sitting and consuming.

“It’s shameful that we are still importing almost everything and as long as we continue to do that, our naira will continue to be nothing.”

Anakwenze described the Igbo as very important towards fast development of Nigeria and called for their proper inclusion in the affairs of country

“Unless Nigeria realizes the value of the Igbos, they will continue to carry last. We have the brain to match the Chinese and the Japanese in manufacturing. The things we manufacture in Aba and Onitsha and Nnewi are what can make the country grow, not sharing money and occupying government positions and giving jobs to family members who are not even qualified to hold such jobs”, he stated.

N60 Million Corruption Scandal Rocks UNIZIK SUG, President and Others Fingered

A financial misconduct scandal has rocked the Students' Union Government (SUG) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra People reports.

The SUG Executive President, Eze Samuel, and Senate President, Paul Ejike, are accused of misappropriating union funds, abusing office, and obstructing democratic processes.

The allegations, contained in petitions to the Vice Chancellor and copied to university and security authorities, claim that funds were transferred from the union's account to personal accounts. Specific transactions cited include ₦500,000 and ₦450,000 transfers to Paul James Ejike's account.

The petitioners allege that up to ₦60 million may have been embezzled, violating the SUG Constitution's requirement for Senate approval before expending union funds.

They also accuse the President and Senate President of sidelining the Student Senate Council and refusing to convene plenary sessions.

SUG Financial Secretary Comr. Ajajebu Francis Ndubuisi demanded his reinstatement as a signatory to the SUG account, alleging he was sidelined to enable questionable financial dealings.

He called for the suspension of financial transactions, a thorough investigation, and disciplinary action against the President and Treasurer.

The petitioners jointly requested the release of official bank statements, independent investigations, and scrutiny of union officials involved in managing finances. While the accused officers denied wrongdoing, the petitions have sparked campus debates about transparency and accountability.

Copies of the petitions were sent to relevant authorities, including the Dean of Student Affairs and security agencies, signaling potential escalation if the matter isn't addressed swiftly. Students await the university management's response to this significant corruption scandal.

Man Recounts Brother’s Horrible Encounter with Agunechemba

A man, Gabriel Ewgutuoha Peter, has narrated a disturbing ordeal involving his younger brother, who he alleged was brutally detained by the Anambra State government-backed security outfit, Agunechemba, otherwise known as “Soludo’s Boys.”

In a detailed account posted on Facebook, Gabriel accused the security outfit of unlawful arrest, denial of communication, intimidation, and alleged cover-up in what he described as “a near-deadly experience” that could have ended tragically.

According to Gabriel, the incident began in Ihiala Local Government when Udo ga-achi operatives allegedly arrested his brother for driving a car without a plate number.

“They carried him across many local governments until they got to Onitsha. In all this arrest drama, they switched off his two phones and never communicated to any of his family members,” Gabriel said

He said it took a good Samaritan who spotted his brother “in bad condition in the so-called security cell” to contact their mother and inform the family of his whereabouts.

When Gabriel’s elder brother visited the security office in Onitsha to confirm his sibling’s detention, the leader of the unit, identified as Nwaoye Desmond, allegedly denied that the young man was in their custody.

“My senior brother was confused. He even told them he had just bought food for my brother in that same cell, yet they kept denying. Desmond became furious when my brother pointed out the security officer who had shown him where my sibling was kept. That officer was later beaten and locked up for two days,” Gabriel recounted.

He alleged further that he overheard Desmond making a phone call, lamenting that “the plan won’t work again” because the detainee had been seen and identified by family members.

Gabriel said his family was told that the only way to secure his brother’s release was to contact their village’s President General, who in turn would reach out to Kenneth, the Special Adviser to Governor Charles Soludo on Security.

“I called Kenneth directly. At first, he acknowledged the arrest but later started avoiding my calls. For days, he refused to pick my calls. Even our President General later stopped answering me after promising to help,” Gabriel alleged.

According to him, the turning point came when he escalated the matter to the Anambra State Commissioner of Police.

“In less than an hour after my call, the so-called Agunechemba started calling us, saying we should come and carry our brother because a call had come from above. The Police responded professionally without asking for a dime. May God bless them,” he stated.

Gabriel withheld some details of what his brother allegedly witnessed inside the detention cell, including reports of other victims who “gave up in his presence and were thrown away.” However, he issued a strong warning to the Anambra State Government.

“I want to advise Governor Soludo to carefully check the people he is employing to guard Anambra State. They may be destroying the state themselves instead of protecting it,” he cautioned.

He further advised residents of the state to always inform their families of their movements to avoid similar ordeals.

The allegations, if confirmed, could expose a dangerous breakdown of lawful security structures in Anambra under the cover of government approval.

Civil rights groups are already calling for urgent scrutiny of Agunechemba, warning that unchecked power could degenerate into a human rights crisis in the state.

PoliticsINEC, APGA Sabotaged Anambra South By-election - ADC Senatorial Candidate, Amamg by AnambraPeople(op): 8:07am On Aug 20, 2025
INEC, APGA Sabotaged Anambra South By-Election - ADC Senatorial Candidate, Amamgbo

Barr. Donald Chidi Amamgbo, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Anambra South Senatorial by-election, has come hard on INEC over what he described as "systemic sabotage" and deliberate disenfranchisement during the just concluded by-election in Anambra State.

In a press conference at Awka, Amamgbo alleged that INEC withheld tags for ADC's ward and local government collation agents, effectively crippling the party's ability to defend its votes.

He also claimed that INEC circulated a doctored list of polling agents in Ihiala, which differed from the authentic list submitted by ADC.

Amamgbo described the election as a "carefully orchestrated charade" designed to undermine the credibility of the process.

He criticized Governor Charles Soludo's statement that Labour and ADC parties are "dead" in Anambra, suggesting that the governor's party, APGA, was behind the alleged sabotage.

The ADC candidate emphasized that the people of Anambra South deserve an independent voice in the Senate, not a puppet senator controlled by Governor Soludo.

He called for a thorough review of the electoral process, institutional reforms within INEC, and an end to the culture of collusion between political parties and electoral officials.

Amamgbo vowed to continue speaking out against attempts to undermine democracy and restore faith in the ballot.

Parts of Amamgbo's speech reads:

"Elections are meant to be the ultimate expression of the people’s will. Instead, what we witnessed was a carefully orchestrated charade designed to obfuscate, suffocate and decimate the people’s voice and choice. Ultimately undermining the credibility of the process.

"On the eve of the elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deliberately withheld the tags for our ward and local government collation agents, effectively crippling ADC’s ability to defend the votes of our people at all critical stages of collation. Why one might ask? The answer is the infantile attempt to disillusion and debase ADC the primary opposition party in Nigeria. Look no further than the loquacious and bombastic statement of Professor Charles Soludo that “Labor and ADC parties are dead in Anambra”. If that was so then Anambra South is an electoral crime scene and Professor Soludo election malfeasance is directly to blame.

"In Ihiala, INEC went further by circulating a doctored list of polling agents that did not correspond with the authentic list duly submitted by our party and uploaded on the INEC portal. These are not mistakes. They are not clerical oversights. They are acts of sabotage.

"I ask: How can an election be free and fair when one party is denied collation agents? That is like asking a team to play football blindfolded while the referee looks the other way.

"This sabotage was not random. It was a deliberate and deviant orchestration by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) a political “Cult” in Anambra.

"Very devastating is the fact that APGA government has normalised vote buying knowing fully well that the hungry exploited citizens of Anambra state will collect money to vote just to survive another day.

"At the centre of this charade is a Senator-elect tethered to the control of Governor Charles Soludo. This is not democracy. This is puppetry".
