Politics / Imo To Employ Another N10,000, Begins Payment Of Minimum Wage Of N18,000 by andrewnwa: 6:47pm On Apr 06, 2011
Imo To Employ another N10,000, begins payment of Minimum wage of N18,000
Imo state government would employ another N10,000 workers who are non-garduates in the next two months, the Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim has revealed.
The governor who disclosed this during a labour Award of Excellence conferred on him by the organized labour in the state at Imo Concord hotel, Owerri recently, said the state government would also commence the payment of the N18,000 minimum wage to Imo civil servants, noting that by this approach, the state would be the first in the south-East to pay the new minimum wage.
He explained he was mindful of the fact that the current N10,000 jobs targeted at graduates would not be enough because there were tens of thousands of non-graduates comprising artisans, technicians, menial workers, amongst others who needed to be engaged to take care of some development projects initiated by his administration.
Chief Ohakim who revealed that these non-graduates were school drop-outs at various stages from primary to higher education explained that Imo state has the highest number of primary education enrolment with about 90% of the populace attending, while 40% of that number access secondary education and 10% attaining higher/ university education, and queried where the rest that could not complete their education were dropped and what happens to their future?
Worried by this state of affairs, he said he was moved to forward to the state House of Assembly the approval for another N10,000 jobs to accommodate this category.
He also revealed that he had forwarded approval for subvention for the 44 schools handed over to the missions for upgrading, adding that there would be three leaders in his cabinet for the labour sector notably: Senior Special Assistance I, II and III.
He also promised to look into petitions arising from a recent government white paper with a view to ratifying workers grievances, adding that his administration was that of innovators, paradigm shifters and vision bearers.

Politics / Governor Ohakim And Education In Imo State by andrewnwa: 11:49am On Apr 05, 2011
Governor Ohakim And Education In Imo State
Education Is the biggest industry in Imo state. Before the present administration came into being in Imo state, the education sector was faced with a lot of challenges which cut across primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, including adult and non-formal education.
Infrastructures were dilapidated. There were inadequate teachers in the science and technical subjects as well as other core compulsory subjects like English language and Mathematics. There was high level of computer illiteracy, ’cultism’, examination malpractices, lack of monitoring and supervision and poor funding of all facets of education among other challenges.
On taking over the mantle of leadership in May 29, 2007 as Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim set out to correct this anomaly. He appointed an erudite scholar and one-time best vice-chancellor in Nigeria, Professor Jude Njoku, Commissioner for Education to turn around the education sector for the good of all: To tackle the problem of dilapidation of infrastructure in the in the school system, Governor Ohakim constructed 100 new class-room blocks within the first 100 days in office in the twenty-seven LGAs of the state. This administration in conjunction with the State Universal Basic Education Board is constructing (55) fifty-five new classroom blocks and has distributed textbooks in English language and mathematics totalling 84,000 to all the primary schools in Imo State. Vehicles were provided to staff of SUBEB to monitor the performance of teachers in primary and secondary school levels.
To ensure that teachers put in their best at inception of this administration, Governor Ohakim ordered the immediate implementation of 12% salary increase in the secondary Education Management Board SEMB, which boosted the morale of teachers and the entire staff of SEMB. The governor approved the employment of technical teachers and equipped the four technical colleges in the state which facilitated their accreditation by the Vocational Board of Technical Education. Governor Ohakim equally promoted over 5,000 teaching and non-teaching staff or SEMB. To crown it all, for the first time in the state, 200 principals were promoted to level 16 and four of them appointed permanent Secretaries. In the recent 10,000 jobs for Imo Youths, the education sector received 5000 new teachers.
44 Secondary schools have been handed over to their original owners. The Ohakim Administration has undertaken to pay the teachers’ salaries in these-schools for two years to allow the new owners to muster enough resources to assume full responsibility thereafter.
The Ohakim administration has released the sum of N150 million out of N250 million approved for full accreditation of all courses in the college of Engineering of Evan Enwerem University. It has also instituted the Imo state Children Education Fund to raise N50 million in two years which will in turn address the challenges of infrastructure decay in the education sector.
The former Micheal Okpara College of Agriculture Umuagwo, monotechnic is now a polytechnic. The ohakim administration released the sum of N145 million and approved the recruitment of ninety-one academic and 38 non-academic staff for the successful accreditation of the programme of Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo.
In the area of capacity building, the Ohakim administration has continue to pay bursary award to students of Imo State origin at the various campuses of Nigeria Law School. Each law student was paid N50,000 against the former N15,000. This administration instituted a special overseas post graduate scholarship scheme for Imo indigenes. Candidates with first class or second class upper degree and encouraged to enrol in the Ivy League Universities in the World, The idea is to produce well trained world class graduates of Imo state origin.
The Government recognized the physically challenged persons and released about N2.5 million naira for their bursaries and scholarships. About 237 physically challenged students in both secondary and tertiary institutions benefited from this gesture. From all this laudable achievements in the education sector, one can rightly say that governor Ohakim is not only a citizen of Imo state to be fully educated in a conducive academic environment.
Continue to support this education conscious administration for more grant academic accomplishments.

OHAKIM CALLS FOR CALM
The governor of Imo state Dr Ikedi Ohakim has called on all Imo people and especially members of the people’s Democratic party(PDP) to remain calm despite provocations from the governorship candidate of APGA, Chief Rochas Okorocha and his followers for attacking Governor Ohakim, who was riding in the same vehicle with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
In a release signed by the Chief press Secretary to the governor, Mr Henry Ekpe, the governor said no amount of provocations from the opposition or any group of people shatter the peace in the state.
“The governor is the Chief security officer of the state and has sworn an oath to protect the life and property of Imo people and therefore, cannot succumb to the antics of desperate politicians who want power by all means”. The release said Imo people are therefore advised to move freely and do their business, but parents are warned to ask their children to desist from being used by frustrated politicians to cause mayhem be in the state.
It would recalled that the governorship candidate of the APGA, Chief Rochas Okorocha unleashed his followers on the convoy of governor Ohakim with former president Obasanjo riding with Ohakim, along Wetheral Road, Owerri.
The APGA members carrying Rochas posters barricaded the road, pouring invectives on the governor, while others threw stones on the governor’s staff car.
Before the latest incident, Okorocha has sent thugs to invade an Owerri based newspaper, and abducted the Editor, for writing a story he found unfavourable. The damage done were estimated to run into millions of naira by the publisher of the paper, Chief Bright Njoku.
Many Imo citizens have condemned the attack, pointing out that Rochas Okorocha has lost the election, and therefore seeking to repeat the Akwa Ibom scenario in Imo state, but governor Ohakim maturely handled the situation.

Please do we have to go to websites or links to see what is happening in our state?  I wouldn't be surprised if Ohakim has Photoshopped our beloved Imo state on the web to make it look like what it is not to people outside. Do you also have the links to those of Lagos and Port Harcourt? I'm sure you don't cos over there, people testify for the governors not web links.

The pics below is just 2 of many infrastructural development by his administration,

Your dear governor doesn't brag about his achievements?   Yet dstv channels are replete with adverts proclaiming the so called transformation that Ohakim is bringing to Imo State. This wouldn't be a bad thing if there were actually notable achievements, then people will readily surrender bragging rights to him.

@BAWSS, ITS EVIDENT DAT URE NOT IN IMO STATE OR PROBABLY U HAV AN EYE PROBLEM, CZ U'LL HAV BEIN ABLE TO SEE HIS TREMENDOUS ACHIEVEMENT IN ALL SECTORS OF THE STATE. EVERYTIN BEIN ADVERTISED ON DSTV IS A REALITY, SO I ADVISE U FOLLOW THE MOVING TRAIN, A TRAIN THAT WILL TRANSFORM UR ENTIRE HOUSEHOLD, A TRAIN THAT WILL CONTINUE TO MODERNIZE THE STATE,
SO LETS GIVE HIM THE NECESSARY SUPPORT SO THAT HE CAN "DO MORE", instead of castigating his wonderful achievement just becz he wasnt able to please u in one way or the other.

Imo Leaders, Traditional Rulers Order Rochas After Endorsing Ohakim

TRADITIONAL Rulers, leaders and elders in the three geo-political zones of Imo state have asked the APGA Governorship candidate in the state Owelle Rochas Okorocha to heed to the terms of governorship zoning in the state.
At a joint meeting of the Ndieze, leaders and elders of Owerri, Okigwe and their brothers from Orlu held at the Palace of the Obi of Obinugwu, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, they pointed out that in custom and tradition, it was an abomination for an individual or group, irrespective of their wealth, influence or physical prowess to take a position against the will, desire and decision of the people, adding that it was the duty of leaders and elders of any people to identify elements that can cause rancor and acrimony in the society.
They noted that the leaders of Imo state Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu identified struggle for the position of the Governor to be a major factor that could create crisis and disunity and consequently affect the progress of the people, hence, it was their duty to take steps to obliterate such factors.
The leaders maintained that in 1999, Chief Achike Udenwa, an Orlu son was governor and ruled for 8 years with the support of other zones and when in 2007, Dr Ikedi Ohakim was elected the Governor, the entire zones supported him, pointing out that by this understanding, the governorship position would reside in Okigwe for 8 years, any challenge if need be, should come from Okigwe zone till 2015 when it would be the turn of Owerri zone.
“In our culture and tradition, an act where an individual violates a decision by the people is tantamount to an abomination and the process of purging an abomination is very clearly defined by our ancestors. But our traditional sense, in obedience to our culture and custom and to emphasize that this is a mission in search of peace, we have brought the traditional “omu” (palm leave), to show that we want peace. Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu zones must rise up against this tyranny. If we fail to fight it and stop it, we are likely to have more challenges from people who may rise to defy the wish and desire of our people for their personal interest. The leaders stressed.
In their separate reactions, Chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya called on the leaders from Owerri zone to ask their son Mr Jude Agbaso who is deputizing Owelle Rochcas Okorocha to resign immediately as to add meaning to the peace talk.

ROCHAS SPONSORS THUGS AGAIN!!!!

Rochas is a man known far and wide around the nation; this is due largely to his political pursuits since 1999 which has being unfruitful due to his incapacity.

Rochas has aspired for different political positions from 1999 till date. The information below gives a concise explanation of his `wide goose chase':

In 1999, he contested for gubernatorial position under the platform of the PDP where he lost to the then Governor Achike Udenwa. Rochas Okorocha later contested for "President" in 2003 on the platform of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). He later withdrew from the Presidential race and abandoned all the people who followed him into his then party ANPP, Ever since then, ANPP has remained comatose and its members more puzzled than ever.

Just yesterday, on the arrival of Ex-president of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo and his entourage involving the well supported governor of Imo state Dr Ikedi Ohakim to the Dan Anyiam Stadium for the final campaign showdown. It was noted that the Dan Anyiam stadium had been sported by the governor as his campaign ground for his re-election. Rochas Okorocha known for "sweet talking" people immediately shifted his venue which was supposed to be at his Conference Centre at Okigwe road to the proposed venue sported by the Imo State Governor for his campaign.

Due to this fact, Rochas Okorocha saw that he wasn't able to challenge an incumbent governor after accusing the governor of not allowing them to stage their campaign either in the Dan Anyiam Stadium or at the Township School Field, opposite the Stadium, even while Ohakim's campaign grand finale was taking place at the same venue same time decided to sponsor his APGA members carrying his Okorocha's posters to barricaded the road, and stone the incumbent governor with his entourage, pouring inventive on the governor, while others threw stones on the governor's convoy and pelted pure on them.

An aide of Okorocha who spoke on condition of anonymity disclosed that they decided to block the Government House entrance road to register their protest of the fact that Owelle Rochas Okorocha most become governor come 16 of April.

Meanwhile, Dr Ikedi Ohakim known for his simplicity and exemplary leadership called on the people of the state and especially members of the People's Democratic Party [PDP] to remain calm despite what he described as provocations.

Ghost Of 2007 Still Haunts Araraume….Nze Ihegbero
Texas, United states based politician Nze Goddy Ihegbero, has said that the Action Congress Of Nigeria(ACN) governorship candidate in Imo State, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume is still haunted by the ghost of 2007.
Nze Iheagbero who spoke exclusively to Nationwide at the launch of a book entitled “True Christian should support Governor Ikedi Ohakim” at the Concord Hotel, Owerri on Friday noted that the factors that rejected Senator Araraume in the 2007 governorship elections in the state are still around and will still reject him.
He insisted that the beauty of democracy is opposition and criticism. He said Chief Ohakim will emerge at the end of the day given what he saw on ground since his return recently. He said the governor’s political structure, New Face Organization, is ground in the United State and Europe and that more than one thousand coordinators have already hit Imo State to work for Chief Ohakim’s re-election and ensure that PDP wins convincingly in the state.
According to him, Imo people in the Diaspora took a resolution to support the governors second term bid, which is the reason for their home-coming to campaign from door to door and let the grassroots know why such a highly achieving governor should be given another term TO DO MORE for Imo people.
He noted that though rotation of the governorship position in Imo state is not in the constitution, the gentlemen’s agreement is not in the constitution, the gentlemen’s agreement still stands and has worked to this point and so, Okigwe zone should be allowed to complete their eight-year term and hand over to an Owerri man in 2015.
The Umudurunna, Nwangele local government born politician noted that his own Orlu senatorial zone has completed its own eight-year tenure and quality demands that Okigwe should complete its own while, Owerri zone takes its turn in 2015, pointing out that it will be an insult and lack of intelligence for an Owerri man to vote any governorship candidate from Orlu zone.
Nze ihegbero stressed that those in the Diaspora decided to back the incumbent governor having been convinced that he has the best programme for the state compared to all the other candidates in the race.
According to him, Imo people abroad want peace in the state and the only person who has shown the will to guarantee peace is Ikedi Ohakim who is ensuring that peace by insisting that Owerri zone should take over from him in 2015 and by which time Okigwe would have served out its tenure.
He stressed that governor Ohakim is the best bet for the hope of an Owerri man to be governor in 2015 insisting that there is nothing as good as being part of the team to return the governor to Douglas House in May.

Akakem Knocks Araraume, Rochas…Says they have only propapanga to offer
An Imo state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Lemmy Akakem (Okpata Ozuoha) has lashed out on the opposition parties in the state saying that they have nothing to offer except propaganda against the government.
Chief Akakem who spoke to news men at the Umuohiagu, Ngor Okpala during the local government’s PDP campaign grand finale insisted that the Ikedi Ohakim administration has done so much for the state within four years and better than eight years of the immediate past administration and yet, what he gets for it is propaganda from the opposition.
He said Governor Ikedi Ohakim deserves accolades for bringing something new into governance in the state instead of being unnecessary criticized, pointing out that those criticisms which is an aspect of politics will not deter the state governor from doing more while urging the state’s electorate to join the PDP to do more by electing the governor for second term in office.
According to him, PDP has necessary structures in place to be victorious at the end of April polls in Imo state and the country and has campaigned more than any other party in the state by taking its case, door to door to the grassroots who he said will come out to vote overwhelmingly for the party.
The former Chairman of Iwuanyanwu Nationale football club of Owerri noted that it will be an insult for anybody from Owerri zone to vote for an Orlu governorship candidate when the zone is waiting for Okigwe to complete its second tenure for Owerri 2015 governorship.
He reiterated the fact that Orlu has completed its tenure of eight years and handed over to Okigwe which has completed one term and must be allowed to do a second term to arrive at an equilibrium, insisting that Governor Ikedi Ohakim is the surest bet for an Owerri governor in 2015 by being the only candidate constitutionally barred from doing another term after this.
Chief Akakem said the PDP is not concerned by road shows being mounted by some governorship candidates in the state as it mounts to nothing, insisting that parties without structures do not win elections no matter how much they try to dance on the streets.
According to him, the last week has shown that PDP will win has shown that PDP will win overwhelmingly in Imo State because the people have now seen that all the opposition can boast of is propaganda against a government still working hard and delivering the dividends of democracy to the people, not minding what the opposition is saying…

I CAN BLUNTLY TELL U THAT DR IKEDI OHAKIM HAS ALOT OF MEGA PROJECTS ON GROUND: THE NWORIE RIVER DRAINAGE, THE CONSTRUCTION OF BRIDGES ALONG EGBEADA AND ORJI TO AID THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. THEN IN THE RURAL AREAS, HE HAS COMMISSIONED ALOT OF WATER PROJECTS IN OBOWO, ORLU, MBAISE AND SOME OTHER AREAS WHICH ARE OBVIOUS TO PEOPLE RESIDENT HERE IN IMO STATE.

ON THE ISSUE OF CREDIBLE CANDIDATE, I CAN TELL U THAT ALL THE CANDIDATES CONTESTING FOR THAT GUBERNATORIAL POSITION IS NOT CREDIBLE. OWELLE ROCHAS OKOROCHA HAS HIS OWN "SHORT COMINGS", JUST RECENTLY HIS THUGS BEAT-UP NIGERIAN HORN NEWSPAPER OFFICIALS, AND ALSO RAPED 2 FeMALE STAFF MEMBERS. ROCHAS OKOROCHA has aspired for different political positions from 1999 till date with different political parties(ANPP,PDP,LP,AA and APGA). This shows that he is muddled and cant defined his path, INFORMATION HAS ALSO PAVED WAY ON THE FACT THAT HE BELONGS TO A SECRET FRATERNITY KNOWN AS OGBONI, IS THIS CREDIBILITY OR VISION?, CZ A MAN WHO CANT DEFINE HIS PATH IS NOT FIT TO RULE IMO STATE.
LOOKING AT THE OTHER STRONG CANDIDATE ARARUME, THERE HAS BEEN LOTS OF PROPAGANDA RAISED ABOUT HIM TOO. THE ISSUE OF HIM BEEN A MURDER, A THEFT, A RITUALIST AND SO ON, SEN IFEANYI ARARUME WAS A SENATOR FOR 8YEARS AND NEVER ACHIEVED ON SINGLE THIN FOR THE PEOPLE OF OKIGWE, INSTEAD HE USED HIS WEALTH TO FUND HIS BUSINESS EMPIRE IN BENIN AND ABUJA,
HE WAS ONCE CATEGORIZED BY THE THEN EFCC CHAIRMAN MALLAM NUHU RIBADU, "as one of those unfit to hold the office of state governor because of his antecedents", IN 2007, HE WAS ALSO DISQUALIFIED BECAUSE OF HIS "ANTECEDENTS" BY THE THEN PRESIDENT.
IN A NUTSHELL,, WHO WILL U SAY IS CREDIBLE?

I think the SO CALLED "DEVIL" WE KNOW IS BETTER THAN THE ANGEL WE DONT KNOW,
HE SHOULD BE GIVEN THE NECESSARY SUPPORT so that he can do more, INSTEAD OF BEEN CASTIGATED FOR NO FACT REASONS,

They also broke the windscreens of the cars parked outside, one of the cars incidentally belongs to the Weekend Editor my very self. Laptops, phones and cash were also taken away as they ransacked the office and the drawers in Nigerian Horn Complex.
The youths accosted me at the door of the office and started beating me mercilessly. I also saw them beating one stanly Nwokorie a staff of Zeek Ford Business Services.
. The youths dragged me and Stanley Nwokorie to the campaign headquarters of Chief Rochas Okorocha along Okigwe road Owerri while beating us along the road
It took the intervention Of Prince Eze Madumere, the chief of staff to Chief Rochas Okorochas to rescue us from further beating.
However one of the men walked in and gave me a slap before Prince Madumere and he pushed the man out of his office in anger.
At the Rochas campaign Organization, I was drilled on why we wrote a story against Rochas Okorocha.
I was also asked to disclose the source of the story and how much we were paid to write the story.
Before I left the campaign organization, I was asked to write an apology or undertaking that the Nigerian Horn would publish an apology as a condition for my release from the hostage I was held.

Honestly aerosapiens, i know u are one of those paid agents and cowards masquerading under fake names  to defame and spread falsehood against Dr Ikedi Ohakim, u should be ashamed of urself.  How can you damage another man's name so, simply because you want power? When I saw this false information about Dr Ikedi Ohakim i became muddled and nowhere was it mentioned in any article that Ohakim hasnt done better than his predecessor. Why drag Ohakim’s name to the mud? You have actually proven to the world that Rochas is ur man.
Besides, is this what Imo politics has degenerated to? Shouldn't all the gubernatorial candidates concentrate on issues as opposed to mudslinging? It is evident that Dr Ikedi Ohakim must be the man to beat for all these negative energies and heaps of lies against him.  Please lets allow our God sent governor Dr Ikedi Ohakim to concentrate on his visions and mission for Imo State, cause he has done so much in the state  most especially in the areas of infrastructural development, which is very obvious when you come to Imo state.
Gov. Ohakim being the incumbent governor has a chance --in fact opportunity to win Imo State without much hassles, i.e. based on is achievement which is on <www.imostate.gov.ng> .
Please lets try to be factual instead of posting false things about our incumbent governor.

AND ALSO AEROSAPIENS, OHAKIM MUST NOT BEHAVE LIKE HIS PREDECESSOR BY SHARING MONEY.

Thank you.

AMAKA, IVE LIVED IN OWERRI FOR THE PAST 6 YEARS NOW,
i CAN TELL U THAT OWERRI HAS REALLY TRANSFORMED POSITIVELY, COMPARED TO THE DAYS OF HIS PREDECESSOR ACHIKE UDENWA.
I'LL PREFER U COME AND SEE THINGS FOR URSELF, INSTEAD OF LISTENING TO THAT BLATANT LIAR(AEROSAPIEN). WHO IS ROCHAS ONLINE THUG.
