As of October 1 2026, Nigeria’s six geo-political zones will become official and constitutional organs of government.
This means that there will be four tiers of administration in Nigeria - Federal, Zonal, State, and Local governments

[2] Nigeria will have six geo-political zones, with each being made up of seven states. Our constitution will prohibit the creation of any more states after these 42

[3] As part of this restructure, we will abolish the federal allocation regime and replace it with resource control under which states will remain the federating units. Revenue distribution will be as follows - States: 50%; Federation account: 20%; Geo-political zones: 15%; National trust fund: 15%. We shall gradually migrate towards this to achieve our targeted goal by 2040

[4] Geopolitical zones will be responsible for maintaining regional police forces to augment the activities of the Nigerian Police Force

[5] Each geopolitical zone will be constitutionally obliged to generate, distribute, and transmit electricity within its domain

[6] Every year, the chairman of the geopolitical zone will rotate among the six governors within it. A chief executive will be appointed to manage what will be a civil service structure

[7] Ultimate authority for the governing of each geo-political zone rests with the committee of governors.
There will also be committees of commissioners to deal with matters such as education, health, housing, transport, security, etc

[8] Each geopolitical zone authority will be responsible for secondary specialist healthcare. They will build specialist hospitals in areas such as oncology, HIV/Aids, renal failure, dementia, reproductive health, dermatology, etc

[9] These will be the 42 states that make up the six geopolitical zones:

South-South
[1] Bayelsa State - Yenagoa
[2] West Izon State - Patani
[3] Rivers State - Port Harcourt
[4] Cross River State - Calabar
[5] Akwa Ibom State - Uyo
[6] Edo State - Benin
[7] Delta State - Warri

Northeast
[1] Mambilla State - Gashaka
[2] Taraba State - Jalingo
[3] Adamawa State - Yola
[4] Borno State - Maiduguri
[5] Yobe State - Damaturu
[6] Bauchi State - Bauchi
[7] Gombe State - Gombe

Southeast
[1] Anioma State - Asaba
[2] Orashi State - Omoku
[3] Anambra State - Awka
[4] Imo State - Owerri
[5] Enugu State - Enugu
[6] Abia State - Umuahia
[7] Ebonyi State - Abakaliki

North-Central
[1] Abuja State - Abuja
[2] Gurara State - Kafanchan

Nothing you have put forward supports your position that you can become DG WTO without US backing.

If she could have gotten the job without US support why did she need to convince them by getting US citizenship and swearing an oath of allegiance? At that stage of her life and career, US citizenship is a burden not a benefit which is whe she hadn’t done it till then even though she could.

Clearly you are one of those people who believes America spreads democracy and operates by the rules. The US is the world’s biggest hypocrite and they never honour agreements. They tell you one thing and do another. The so called international order based system was not designed for you, It was designed for the US. A country that brought about the fall of the British empire a supposed ally and held them by the balls is not the kind of country that plays fair. The US gets what it wan because it designed the system for them. You are naive if you think otherwise.

The reality of how things work in international bodies be it the UN, WTO etc, is that the US arm twists smaller voter nations by threatening them with sanctions, threatening diplomats with family visa withdrawals/ account closures and school withdrawals for their children and relatives.

If you don’t know this then you are not in a position to comment.

Okonjo got the job only because her appointment was eventually sanctioned by the US and she got that sanction by selling her soul and pledging her allegiance and loyalty to the US. She clearly did not want or need US citizenship or she would have done it long before the appointment.


I suggest you do some history lessons in the origins of these bodies post WW2 beyond the surface level.

This topic reminds me of when I was a child and my father would ask me if I wanted to do something as if I had a say in the matter when in reality (as I would later realize!) he had already made preparations or concluded the matter for the outcome he wanted. Asking me was only to make it seem as if ii had a say….in reality I didn’t and never could have.

Bottom line, if the US says we want this Nigerian as DG of WTO, the Nigerian government will fall in line. If the Nigerian government nominates a candidate and the US is against that candidate, he/she isn’t getting the job.

We are talking about the person in charge of the body that sets the rules for world trade. Nigeria is irrelevant. That a Nigerian is there is only to give the illusion of inclusion. In reality NOI has, by taken up US citizenship, sworn an oath of allegiance to the US. That’s why she got the job not because the Nigerian govt supported her. Yes it helps but with these international bodies you can get the top job without support from your govt. I can’t remember which body but it happened recently.

Buhari had no influence among WTO members to help her win. His only job was helping her fulfill a single requirement.

It was her goodwill and previous career achievements in the World Bank and other portfolio that earned her support from WTO member countries, not Buhari’s influence. Without these achievements and portfolio, she had zero chance of earning support from member nations.

Still, If Biden had lost the 2020 election, it was highly unlikely that she would’ve been the WTO President because Trump backed Yoo Myung-hee.
