PoliticsRe: APC Guber hopeful, Alli in limbo as Oyo Govt sets April 3 for coronation by AndroBlaze:
fergie001:
The new law was enacted in 2023.
To make it clear what I said, no local law or custom can stop one from being a governor in any Nigerian state unless it is recognised by the constitution.

So again, Oyo state or any state in the country cannot introduce any law or custom that would stop any individual in Nigeria from becoming a governor in their state, no matter how good or well intentioned that law is.

Let me give you a scenario, imagine if in the Southwest we made laws that says any governor of any Southwest state must speak Yoruba, or in the core North they insisted any governor of their states must be muslim or in the SE &SS they insisted any governor must be a Christian.... in short this would have happened already if those states had the ability, but no state in the federation is allowed to unilaterally overule constitutional requirement or legislate for any office directly recognised and created by the federal constitution.

Also, once again, to make it clear, their is no office in the constitution recognised as "governor of Oyo state", you are a "governor of a state in Nigeria" which the federal constitution already prescribes how you can become one.

This issue is dead on arrival and means nothing. Worse comes to worse once the man wins primary or whatever, he resigns as a chief and face his election. When he becomes governor again, he changes the law to suite himself as long as it is not against the constitution of the federal republic.

It is a well intentioned law, but it cannot stand or hold back anyone who is serious about becoming a governor.

Adblg0610:
But where a chieftaincy event would affect his fundamental human right to vote and be voted for in an election recognized by the constitution, a Federal High Court has jurisdiction.
The customary law which prevents him from contesting INEC elections, is a local law and any law that is inconsistent with the constitution is null and void to the extent of its inconsistency.
Seems you are the only one who understands government 101 and basic constitutional matters on this thread.

Was Ladoja not part of the high chiefs in Ibadan before he became governor?

Don't think this writeup is credible as the only thing that can stop someone from being a governor has to be listed in the constitution, not any local law or custom.

There is this hollywood movie I watched over 20 years ago that depicts a scenerio where an American Jewish president gets the US to strike Arab states on a pretext....still trying to find the name.

Edit: Deterence (1999) is the name. Just re-read the full plot.....wow. To think this was before Sept 11, Iraq/Afghanistan invasions and what we are facing now.

It's clear that people have since accurately predicted that particular countries and certain characters will cause global chaos on purpose.

Well I don't know how it works in the SE, but in the SW it is very common not to know the age of your parents and especially grandparents....and who born you to ask them outright!

In fact I know people over 60 who still don't know the age of their elders and are scared to ask them outright before it is seen as a handshake that has extended to the elbows grin

Arsenal should get rid of Gabriel J. this summer.
Madueke needs to work on his game.
This reseerve players should get a decent coach, they were unimpressive today.
Kepa should learn footwork from Rays. His ball distribution was awful.
Arsenal should get some good players to beef up their squad to avoid errors of the past.
Saka is a good player. Max is one for the future.
Wigan should be proud of their team. Their keeper deserves the MOTM award!
Good analysis but wetin concern Wigan for this matter??

Let them be specific about it. If election tribunal throws out petition on the ground that it was specifically stated in the electral act before you go through the hurdles of the legal system the accused most have been sworn in and will use its power to frustrate the whole process. This is Nigeria we understand the game
Then he should have been crystal clear about it instead of making it sound like forgery is now allowed.

You have a point about swearing in, but I've never trusted election tribunals in the first case and the easier and faster they make the process (the speed with which it goes to proper courts) the better for all of us.
PoliticsRe: Forged certificate not a disqualifying factor in new Electoral Act - Jibrin by AndroBlaze: 8:49am On Mar 04
It is sad this came from a SAN.... honestly what is this country becoming because of partisanship?

Every secondary school student knows that laws are not greater than the constitution. So why the so called SAN wants to start needless brouhaha over what HE knows clearly is still illegal in this country and once it gets to proper courts (not yeye tribunals) would still ensure someone is removed, is beyond me.
PoliticsRe: Aguiyi-ironsi And His Four Military Governors - Picture by AndroBlaze:
gidgiddy:
On January 17th 1966, Major General Aguiyi-Ironsi assumed power and appointed four military Governors to govern each of the four Regions Nigeria was then made up of at the time. They were:

Lt Col Adekunle Fajuyi- Western Region

Lt Col David Ejoor - Midwest Region

Lt Col Chukwuemeka Ojukwu - Eastern Region

Major Usman Katsina - Nothern Region

All 4 men governed their respective Regions with Ironsi as military head of State until July 29th 1966 when Ironsi and Fajuyi were killed. Gowon would take over, and replaced the dead Fajuyi with Colonel Adebayo. The four Regions would continue until May 27th 1967 when Gowon abolished all 4 Regions, and replaced them with 12 states. This action would make Ojukwu declare the Eastern Region as the Republic of Biafra

Whenever anyone tells you that Ironsi abolished the Regions, ask them what Regions were Fajuyi, Ojukwu, Katsina and Ejoor were governing the day Ironsi died
With AI and all the things we have available their is absolutely no need for this level of laziness.

I have dropped his speech, the link to his speech and even put in bold the parts you told clear untruths on. However, I am 100% certain, someone would have corrected you before but you continue to insist on spreading falsehoods as you cannot handle the truth and what it means despite you seeing evidence of it every day.

Ironsi's broadcast to the nation - May 24, 1966

May 24, 1966

"The Regions are Abolished': Ironsi's Broadcast to the Nation banning Political Parties and introducing Decree No. 34, 24 May 1966.

Fellow Nigerians:
During the past two weeks I presided over meetings of the Supreme
Military council and the Central Executive Council at which many
important state matters were considered. . .
It is now three months since the Government of the Federal Republic
of Nigeria was handed over to the Armed Forces. Now that peace has
been restored in the troubled areas it is time that the Military
Government indicates clearly what it proposes to accomplish before
relinquishing power. The removal of one of the obstacles on the way
is provided for in the Constitution (Suspension and Modification)
Decree (No. 5) 1966 which was promulgated by me today and comes intoeffect at once.

The provisions of the Decree are intended to remove the last
vestiges of the intense regionalism of the recent past, and to
produce that cohesion in the governmental structure which is so
necessary in achieving, and maintaining the paramount objective of
the National Military government, and indeed of every true Nigerian,
namely, national unity.
The highlights of this Decree are as follows:

* The former regions are abolished, and Nigeria grouped into a number
of territorial areas called provinces. . . .

*Nigeria ceases to be what has been described as a federation. It
now becomes simply the Republic of Nigeria.
The former Federal Military government and the Central Executive
Council become respectively the National Military Government and the
executive Council. All the Military Governors are members of the
Executive Council.

*A Military Governor is assigned to a group of provinces over which
and subject to the direction and control of the Head of the National
Military Government,
he shall exercise executive power. In order to avoid any major dislocation of the present administrative machinery, the grouping of the provinces has been made to coincide with the former regional boundaries. This is entirely a transitional measure and must be understood as such. The present grouping of the provinces is without prejudice to the Constitutional and
Administrative arrangements to be embodied in the New Constitution in accordance with the wishes of the people of Nigeria.

*The National Military Government assumes the exercise of all
legislative powers throughout the Republic subject to such
delegations to Military Governors as are considered necessary for
purposes of efficient administration.

*The public services of the former federation and regions become
unified into one national public service under a National Public
Service Commission. There is a provincial Service Commission for
each group of provinces to which is delegated functions in respect of
public officers below a given rank. This rather drastic change will
probably involve a reconstitution of the existing commissions, and
the National Military Government reserves the right to do so in the
manner stipulated in the Decree. Until this is done, the present
Commissioners continue to act in their posts. Every civil servant is
now called upon to see his function in any part of Nigeria in which
he is serving in the context of the whole country. The orientation
should now be towards national unity and progress. I expect all
civil servants to co-operate and to consult at all levels, vertically
and horizontally, between groups of Provinces and between Provinces
and the Centre.

Adblg0610:
A 4.07% GDP growth in Q4 2025 (as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics) is significantly higher than Nigeria’s 2.12% annual population growth rate.
Since GDP is growing faster than population, GDP per capita increases, meaning average income and living standards can improve.
More economic activity increases tax revenues, enabling greater spending on infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
A very good point, but you should take into account that our population growth figures are likely underreported

But isn't retiring them the best thing to do? Or they should be retained and should serve under their junior officer?

Abeg give them better settlement, make them go rest.

What makes the officer their junior?

Is it age? Is it when they joined?

If it is only rank, then that makes it silly in my opinion and I will state why below.

Police, unlike the Armed Forces has always been a political institution everywhere in the world... those who rise fast aren't always the ones with experience, but the ones who know what to do at certain times to get their promotions. In the US for example, the head of city police is almost always picked by the mayor, and they pick different officers for different reasons.

I see police as being no different from the corporate world where politics and sometimes your effort will make you have a career that flies ahead of others. See Frank Mba who got 2 promotions in one year because there was no one from the aoutheast to balance that position out. This is not possible in the Army in most civilised places and has only happened in Nigeria once in a while because of political soldiers of the past. Again, do people in Banks get retired because their juniors are made EDs before them?

Anyway I am happy with the industrial court's decision....we need to stop treating police officers like military men, they are not, they don't and shouldn't have the same traditions!
PoliticsRe: 2027: I Regret Forming APC And Removing Jonathan — Atiku Abubakar by AndroBlaze: 10:30am On Feb 27
Atiku is selfish.... easily the most selfish politician to ever exist in Nigeria.

His main problem is he feels he must fulfill the prophesy of the yeye marabouts he has that have told him time after time that his destiny is to rule Nigeria, which is why he is ready to do or say anything to make it happen.

If this is the man some Nigerians believe will save them, then really it is only God that can help us as a nation.

There are younger officers that are well qualified to mount that position but he chose analogue police officer
The problem with you Obidients and current opposition is that you are so ill informed and show so much lack of knowledge that it even tires most of us to even attempt to engage with you.

As others have already pointed out to you, it is the LAW IN THIS LAND that whoever Tinubu appoints now can stay their for 4 years come what may....but I know this will not be sufficient for you and you will still call it corruption.

So I have found an example of what your lord and personal saviour, Trump did recently, when he sacked an accomplished Black CDS and looked for an already retired MAGA junior general from an obscure branch of service to come and wear uniform again and lead the most powerful military in the world as CDS. (akin to appointing a retired Civil defence officer to lead our military cheesy )

Now that Trump, your White god, has made it ok to promote mediocrity, ( with his certificates, business acumen and "Christianity ) I hope we can now have peace when Tinubu does his own.

IkeIgboNiile:
My grandmother spoke the Igbo,Hausa and yoruba fluently too. She was born to igbo parents in kano, when she married she lived with her husband in lagos before they moved down east before the civil war.

For me, Igbo and hausa are the only important languages in Nigeria. Outside lagos, yoruba language is useless but you'll find Igbo and hausa speakers in all part of Nigeria. With these two languages, you can conduct business transactions seamlessly anywhere in Nigeria.
See how silly you are, do you even need to master Yoruba to conduct business in Lagos? Did it sound like Ojukwu was completing a business transaction when he was speaking it in that clip?

Keep deceiving yourself about the importance of Yoruba language and keep equating your life and existence to only business....like Olu Maintain once said, said some of you have come to this life to kill yourself with only work cheesy
