Nigeria has not been playing football well for a long time (I will even argue by a long shot, since the generation of Yekini, Amokachi , Siasaia, and Okocha retired. ). Any victories we have had since 1996 have involved papering a lot of the cracks we have.

Take South Africa that beat us...they poured in a lot of money into their football, local football, far more than Nigeria ever does, and their local teams have youth squads. (The other day, some years ago, I watched Orlando Pirates U20 Play against inter milan U20). And they got school sports...something we stopped doing decades ago.
