Mpele:

I've always hinted that most of the illnesses that we're suffering from in South Africa are brought here by foreigners. This is a classical example. The women who came here with this rare deases is Zambian. Now three South Africans who came into contact with her are dead.
HIV/Aids might have came with African foreigners when the borders were opened in 1994.

Well Mpele, you are not my fav person but, you are right. The virus has been identified and like you always HINTED, its from west Africa. See below:

The mystery viral haemorrhagic fever which killed three people in South Africa has been provisionally identified as an arenavirus, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases and the Department of Health said on Sunday.

"The causative agent of the disease, may be a rodent-born arenavirus related to the Lassa fever virus of West Africa," NICD's Dr Lucille Blumberg said at the Charlotte Maxexe Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

She said tests done by the NICD and the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, US, indicated that the disease seemed to be a kind of an arenavirus. The World Health Organisation has also been providing technical assistance.

Another reason why a sane moderator is desperately needed.
How does the topic relate to politics? please move to education so potential applicants can see uni rankings before they apply to 'em

On another note, everyone keeps bashing naij on it's inability to produce uni's that is among the elite, how come naij students consistently rank among the best students in this uni's?

carmelily:

@Angelarse

why can't you ask what i mean rather than get all nasty and emo? Cause, frankly, i don't know where you're coming from or what exactly you have a problem with? so what makes me stupid? Getting two degrees, or agreeing Nigeria has unis living in past glory? Go back and read my posts before u barged in and you just might realise how totally idiotic u've been. misunderstanding everything. ewu.

Only 2 degrees?Hmmmm, Its not reflected in your posts though! Did you buy them?

In any case, once upon a time, those three unis were very good (i'm a graduate of 2 of them). At the moment UI is big-time trashy.

So many of us living in Lagos are not true Orign of Lagos. A lot of people irrespective of their ethnicity claim Lagos as their Home. I'm happy for those who finally find peace in their new homes.

Kobojunkie:

I don't think experts do that all the time. As we speak, China has experts from around the world working to train it's work force in so many areas. Many of these experts are not holding back as they understand that there continued success in China greatly depends on their ability to successfully train their students to compete with others in the same field around the world.

Not all the time but they do MOST of the time, hence I said, we have experienced this withholding of info a lot.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Serious Labour Shortage In South Africa by Angelheart: 3:00am On Oct 06, 2008
Kobojunkie:

Regardless of the field, I still believe in the long run, it is better to bring the experts and necessary equipment in, to give people local access to the skills they need. Experiments, even scientific ones can be conducted locally.

Well, in Nigeria's case, a lot of work needs to be done but if I had to vote,I would rather we start importing exports than embark on an expensive plan of sending people out to learn. Right now, I am not sure the government has any programs that actually affords people the chance to do such. But if we ever consider needing skills, I would rather we invest money in bringing experts from around the world to come train our people locally. Spend part of that money on equipping the institutes to create an environment that will encourage skill building.

Look at it this way: 'I will be the expert embarking on an expensive plan, ' I shall be an expert in my field and will withhold no information from my fellow scientists. What we have experienced in the past, is that these experts tend to hold back information so that they can be consulted on a regular basis. Thus turning this training exercise' into business. The government loses and at the end, we end up with 'INCOMPLETE' knowledge of the know hows.

oh am sorry that nigeria isn't sending students to your great country.
But they are not sending then ANYWHERE. Fortunately for those trhat come from rich families (Probably due to fraud and swindling) do come to our Universities.

Could it be because most of us are in the US and UK where the standard of education is actually higher than that cesspit of crime and racism?
Crime? Ask Oprah Winfrey, BBC, CNN, and they will tell you who the criminals are. So much for 419'ers and Yahoo boys. As for the standard of education, its ok to make yourself to feel better once in a while. I guess your people are educated right? Hmmmm, So much for Nigerians squatting illegaly all over the place. Your 'High' standard of education' is surely performing wonderful miracles for your country' undecided
