A NIGERIAN prince has given up his royal life to become a plumber for Thames Water in London – just like Eddie Murphy in the film Coming to America.
Akeem Adenuga, 62, comes from near Lagos in Nigeria where his brother, King Asunmo Aderibigbe, is The Paramount Ruler of Odo-Ayandelu.

The prince took a break from royal duties in 1994 to study in the UK where he fell in love with the country.

In 2000, he took on a job as a trainee leakage technician at Thames Water and he hasn’t looked back since.

The story is almost identical to Eddie Murphy’s 1988 film, which depicts a fictional Prince Akeem – the crown prince of a made-up African country – who travels to the US in the hope of finding a woman he can marry.

The real-life Akeem now leads a team of 24 engineers who find and fix hidden subterranean leaks across the city.

Father-of-five Akeem said: “I really look forward to coming to work and I’m always raring to go out and get stuck into work in the streets of the capital. “I love my job, and the people I work with really make it special.” But despite moving thousands of miles away, he stays in touch with his hometown of Agbowa-Ikosi – a small town a two-hour drive from the city of Lagos.

He and five friends donated $25,000 for an ambulance in 2017, so that locals could take patients to the nearest hospital – an hour away.

Akeem said: “As a prince back home, my family gets a wonderful welcome every time we visit.

President Muhammadu Buhari is will be departing Abuja on Wednesday on a 20-day vacation in the United Kingdom (UK). The Presidency in a statement on Sunday indicated that President Buhari is expected to depart Nigeria on Wednesday, explaining further that the President will depart UK after the 20-day vacation for Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to attend the Third Summit, thereafter, depart for Austria for the World Economic Summit, while he is expected back to Nigeria on April 4.

federal government through the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO), says a total of 5,433,394 Nigerians are now on the conditional cash transfer programme.

According to an infographic shared on its Twitter page, the beneficiaries are drawn from 1,080,240 households across 32 states.

This was as of January 31, 2020.

Also, the office said it has captured 9,458,160 individuals on the national social register of poor and vulnerable households.

This, it said, is across 43,258 communities in 35 states.

The family of a 36-year-old footballer, Ifeanyi Uchendu, has been thrown into mourning after a bar owner, Dennis Obiora, allegedly stabbed him to death in the #Alausa, #Ikeja area of #Lagos State.
Punch gathered that Ifeanyi and a friend, identified simply as Chinedu, were drinking at the Dorbazini Bar, Alausa, when the latter started smoking a substance suspected to be Indian hemp. .


Immediately the salesgirl at the bar spotted Chinedu, she reportedly cautioned him.

Punch correspondent learnt that when he refused to heed her warning, she called the bar owner, Obiora, and informed him about the situation.
The two men were said to have exchanged words, as Chinedu reportedly claimed he was not smoking on the bar’s premises. .

The argument was said to have degenerated to a fight between them.
Ifeanyi, in a bid to settle the disagreement, intervened, as Chinedu was taken to a shop in the area.

A witness, Ganiu Olayemi, said when Obiora could no longer see Chinedu, he confronted Ifeanyi for allowing his friend to escape.
The bar owner was alleged to have stabbed the victim in the chest. .

Olayemi said efforts to rescue the 36-year-old proved abortive, as he died before he could get to hospital.
“After Chinedu was dragged away, Obiora started looking for him. Ifeanyi stepped in and pleaded with him to stop the fight. .

. “But Obiora said, ‘it was you that allowed him to run away.’ In the process, he stabbed him three times. Ifeanyi fell.
“People brought a tricycle and tried to rush him to a hospital. But when they discovered that he was already dead, they turned back and dumped the corpse in front of the bar,” he added. .

86 Repentant Boko Haram Members Undergoing Rehabilitation at Bulumkutu Centre – NEDC.

86 repentant members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect are currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Bulumkutu Rehabilitation Centre Maiduguri, Dr. Mohammed Goni Alkali, managing director of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has said.

The former terrorists are sheltered and catered for by the Borno State Government with support from development partners.

Meanwhile, the NEDC is set to launch a scholarship program that will sponsor persons affected by insurgency in the region into the academics and to undertake vocational skills.
.
Alkali says this is part of the commission’s effort in alleviating the sufferings of those affected by insurgency.
.
At the Bulumkutu Rehabilitation Centre, the inmates are receiving educational, vocational and moral lessons for future reintegration into the society.
.
The North East Development Commission’s mandate is not just to provide food and non-food items to insurgency affected persons but also to ensure the stablisation of peace in the zone.
.
The commission says it will execute two priority projects in all the local government areas of the state.
.
The first set of projects will be in education with schools built and equipped for conducive teaching and learning.
.
Alkali said that the commission carries out its mandate in meeting the physical and emotional needs of those affected by insurgency.

He then inspected facilities within the rehabilitation centre such as hostels, kitchen, and the livelihood centre.
