A dangerous flash flood emergency hit the streets of Washington D.C. during the Monday morning commute.

With three to four inches of heavy rain falling in a short amount of time, the National Weather Service said the area saw significant flash flooding.

The rain left drivers stranded on top of their cars and some metro commuters with water streaming into the station.

"Travel will be EXTRAORDINARILY dangerous," the National Weather Service warned on Twitter. "Stay out of low areas, if in a low area that may flood, seek higher ground. Stay off the roads if at all possible. This is not the 'usual' flooding."
The rain flooded the main power vault at D.C.'s National Archives, closing the building. The National Archives is home to the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights; all those documents are safe, the National Archives and Records Administration said.

The downpour even appears to have affected the White House basement.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser urged drivers to stay off the roads.

How long did the flash flood last for?
How many days does it occur in a year?
Does it happen every year?

The Federal High Court, Abuja, yesterday, ordered that court processes be served on the former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole, over alleged financial fraud while in office.

Justice Anwuli Chikere, gave the order while ruling on the exparte application brought before the court by Bishop Osadolor Ochei.
The application is seeking an order of mandamus to compel Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to arrest and commence criminal proceedings against Oshiomole for allegedly diverting state funds into personal use.

Justice Chikere, while ordering that the EFCC be served also with the same court process, stressed that the service be done within five days from October 9, when the order was made.

The ex-parte, with suit No FHC/ABJ/CS/628/ 2018, and filed by
Dr.West Idahosa on behalf of the plaintiff has Oshiomole and EFCC as 1st and 2nd respondents

Where is the 'human face' in governance?

Woke up with strength and vigour this morning and was up to face today with all hopes and aspirations but was sad & almost started crying after watching this video.

I've been an advocate of leaders been strong at all time with will power to carry out leadership responsibilities. And that emotional leaders don't go far but certainly not this way.

In leadership and governance, there's a place for 'Human face' no matter the circumstances. Widows to the best of my knowledge are integral part of our society and if we don't apply human face when dealing with them, am afraid we are far from getting there as a people.

Two wrongs indeed can never make things right and as such, can't fathom why the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams A. O. will treat this widow like this and even tell her to go and die when she's struggling to provide food for her family. I think it would've been far better to make her pay a fine for her wrong doing than this humiliation.

The agony of the poor in our society......

Even if offered a position as CEO of Shell I will not return back to Nigeria to live. When you live in Europe or North America, you will realize peace of mind for you and you family members is more valuable than money.
You don't have to worry about kidnappers or armed robbers when travelling on the highway, you don't need armed guards protecting your house, walk anywhere at 3am in the morning without fear, if your sick and you call ambulance you know they will be there within minutes.
Every profession is respected and adequately rewarded-policemen,teachers and firemen are some of the highest paid people in the country and make $100k plus.
Very sensible post.
Chasing money only has made our society a crazy place to live.

someone earning 30k will pay tax of roughly 3k/annum ..... (s)he has abt 25k left. Financial intelligence &discipline are quite important .

2,000 cad per month can still allow for savings for someone smart.

Housing + other home utilities ----1050cad
transportation------ transit (100cad) if transit , it could be about 50 cad with a subsidy based on income
feeding----- 200cad
Phone bills ---- 50 cad
other expenses ------ 100 cad.(toiletries, occassional clothes and shoes e.t.c)

Total is $1500 (1050 +100+200+50+100)
$2000-$1500 -= $500 possibly for savings

But an idiot earning that low will possibly spend foolishly and may acquire the latest BenZ wink grin and paying installmentally.

Don't blame the white man for you lack of success. Yes, it's true white Canadians occupy 96% of Corporate executive roles and control most of the wealth. I know many Nigerians that have broke barriers in different industries in finance, government and entertainment and made it to the top. Canada is still the land of opportunity- The Toronto Raptors GM Masai Ujiri is from Nigeria for example.
Can this improve rapidly for blacks if we keep spending more than we earn, living flashy lifestyles instead of working to improve our communities with donations for scholarships, research, healthcare, green spaces etchuh

small change in Western countries. Why not invest the money here and over time it grows. You can then afford to travel to Canada, Dubai or anywhere else for leisure, rather than to be just menial worker or even a criminal with all the risks involved. Someone told me that on his first trip abroad to London he saw a security guard in front of a shop and upon a closer look he discovered he was a lecturer he knew at a nigerian university, who left his job to seek so- called greener pastures abroad like OP is planning!

"In character and temperament, the typical African of this race-type is a happy, thriftless, excitable person.
Lacking in self control, discipline, and foresight.

Naturally courageous, and naturally courteous and polite, full of personal vanity, with little sense of veracity, fond of music and loving weapons as an oriental loves jewellery.
His thoughts are concentrated on the events and feelings of the moment, and he suffers little from the apprehension for the future, or grief for the past.
“He lacks the power of organization, and is conspicuously deficient in the management and control alike of men or business.
He loves the display of power, but fails to realize its responsibility "

Jesus was not stupid when he chose to have twelve male disciples.

In this case,Pastor Biodun is an heartless and unrepentant womanizer. Even right now he still does not feel any sense of guilt

I strongly believe that at any point in time, a genuine Pastor or Prophet should be able to say like Samuel did in 1st Samuel chapter 12 verse 3

" Here I stand. Testify against me in the presence of the LORD and his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe to make me shut my eyes? If I have done any of these things, I will make it right."

This is the ultimate test of the integrity of a Man of God and the standard required of any one who claims to be a Christian.
Such a rare quote from the Bible.
Spirituality trumps organised religion anytime.

Bro.... seems like you have no idea of philanthropy by rich/wealthy Blacks. Most do so and try their best to keep it under wraps....and many do so to promote education for Blacks.Ever heard of Robert Smith?...guess not... he is a Black American billionaire that gave the commencement address at Morehouse College in May.....and announced that he will pay off the student debt of alll the graduating students. Puff Diddy...Jay Z.... Beyonce... let alone Oorah and a whole lot of others do this kind stuff but they all remain low keyed about it... like is taboo for them to call attention to what they are doing.
They cannot keep their philanthropy low key because it is a tax issue in America, which is a largely transparent society.

I mentioned Dangote in my comment. Or is he white now??

Trust me the rich ones in Nigeria and Africa in general never show off; they are oftentimes not even online to begin with. Even when they are they don’t show off; displaying money on the table or wherever.

Let me leave men a bit. One of the richest women in Africa is in Angola but you would never see her show off but the so called “boss ladies” who go to eat shiit in Dubai and other other parts of the Middle East won’t let us see where to put our legs jejely online.

The truly rich never show off!

By the way, so you are saying white people don’t spend senselessly right??

Smh

Talk wetin you know or dey sure off abeg!
My point is not about show off or no show off.
It is about meaningful philanthropy by wealthy blacks to make others work for their own wealth so the group is respected more.
Cheers.
