Also, $1billion was proposed for distribution to complement shortfall in expected revenue." The $1billion is a compromise by the FG over its words in September not to augment shortfalls anymore.
Responding to the presentation, the chairman of the States Commissioners of Finance and Ebonyi State Commissioner of Finance, Mr Timothy Odaah, lamented that the statutory allocation was getting smaller and smaller. "It appears this is the worst in terms of returns. This is the least in allocations as far as this year is concerned. We are mourning the dearth of funds and this is a wakeup call for states and local governments to buoy up their internally generated revenue."
While appreciating the "magnanimity" of President Goodluck Jonathan to approve the $1billion from the excess crude account and to be shared among the federal, state and local governments, Odaah expressed disappointment with the returns made by the NNPC.
He said that the states had requested for $2bn to complement for the shortfall in revenue but got only $1billion. In September, Odaah and fellow commissioners had walked out of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) when the federal government said that the framework of the 2013 budget was no longer realistic and it won't augment shortfall in revenue. Odaah raised issues with the statutory allocations of previous months.

Abeyjide: is not by painting alone, keeping things tidy and using it for the purpose meant for.you painting your room everyday and leaving the whole place littered doesn't mean you are maintaining it. I don't think I said that painting ALONE is what makes maintenance, or did I? Having said that, can you confirm that you maintain the various buildings/areas that you are connected with by: - painting them regularly - replacing damaged items - updating/upgrading the fittings in addition to "keeping things tidy and using it for the purpose meant for" Thanks |

Beeman1: Good.
God bless PMB and Ameachi Truly, God bless Buhari for not CANCELLING the project as he did in 1984 for Lagos metro rail after sending Jakande to jail. God bless Amechi also for not stealing the money and ABANDONING the project as he did with the PH light rail. Obviously Jonathan had advanced the project way beyond what could be abandoned, not so Overall, CONTINUITY of good projects inherited from previous administration is good for all at every level- local, state and federal. Splashme: The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.
Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.
The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.
Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”
The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.
Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.
He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

https://www.nairaland.com/2843603/lagos-install-10000-cctv-cameras Lagos Deploys Additional 1,000 CCTV Cameras 21 Jan 2014
The Lagos State Government Monday disclosed that it would soon begin the installation of additional 1,000 Close Circuit Television (CCTV), which it said, would help beef up security and crime monitoring in the state.
With the latest development, the number of security cameras, which are in operation across the state would be 2,200, out of which the federal government earlier deployed 1,000 and the state government 1,200.
However, Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN), disclosed the plans to install additional 1,000 CCTV at the public security system demonstration at the Lagos State Security Command and Control Centre, Alausa.

Bitterleafsoup: S-H-A-M-E-L-E-S-S!!!
Lagos Govt Sells Helicopter It Bought in 2009 To Itself in 2015.
Questions are now being asked by Nigerians as to whether or not the Lagos State government sold the two helicopters it bought in 2009 to itself and paid afresh. On December 7, 2009, the then Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola launched two Bell 412 EP Helicopters for security surveillance in the State.
However, on November 27, 2015, the State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode commissioned three helicopters, 15 armoured personnel carriers, APCs, two gunboats, 165 vehicles and others purchased at a cost of N4.765 billion. One of the helicopters was a Bell 412 EP 5N-LAG (Manufacturers Serial Number 36495), the same as the ones commissioned by Fashola in 2009! When Fashola launched the helicopters in 2009, he did not say that it belonged to Caverton. Rather, he said Caverton would assist the government to enforce safety standards, implying that the helicopters never belonged to Caverton.
A trail of documents and news articles readily available online show that this helicopter (5N-LAG) together with 5N-LSG were both procured in 2009 via deductions from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund by the Fashola’s led government. According publication by Saharareporters on November 20, 2009, revealed that the Bell 412 EP that Caverton advertised as its own was one of the two helicopters the Lagos State government purchased through the Lagos State Trust Fund to fight crime in the state.
In 2007, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund was established under the Lagos State Security Trust Fund Law 2007 enacted by the state assembly. The Trust Fund was established to raise money and equipment through voluntary subscriptions and donations from all interested government agencies, private organizations and individuals. The funds were then to be invested to take care of the security challenges of the entire state. Caverton is owned by a businessman, Remi Makanjuola, who also doubled then as the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Lagos Trust Fund. Saharareporters claimed then that in telephone calls made to a Florida–based company, Africair Inc., it discovered that the Lagos State Security Trust Fund had ordered two helicopters, which were supplied, shipped and re-assembled in Lagos. Africa rep. of Africair, Mr. Robert Prentice, in Nairobi, Kenya confirmed that his company had completed the supply of the helicopters to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund. Prodded as to why Caverton is claiming ownership of the equipment, he admitted that the state has a deal with Caverton to operate the helicopters.
The inference from all these is that the Lagos State Government purchased the repainted 5N-LAG helicopter from itself or better still, Ambode repurchased the same helicopter bought by Fashola. - Hope For Nigeria

Keep away from Obasanjo, he wasted $16 billion on power Owie tells Buhari

Senator Roland Owie has blasted ex President Olusegun Obasanjo over his perceived posture to influence the incoming administration of President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
Reacting to a Think-tank report submitted to Buhari by a team of technocrats put together by Obasanjo, Owie described the document as needless.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, Owie, who is also a former Chief Whip of the Senate, asked: ”How can Obasanjo be preparing a blueprint for Buhari? A Bini parable says, ‘how can an impotent man get medicine for his brother, who suffers weak erection?’”
Expressing disappointment at Buhari’s romance with Obasanjo, Owie said “Obasanjo will tell the world that the solutions he prescribed for fixing Nigeria were ignored.”
Continuing he said, “I just read that Obasanjo’s think-tank has submitted a blueprint to Buhari. Blue what?
“I am shocked that great Nigerians of the likes of Prof. Akin Mabogunje, Dr. Idika Kalu and Dr. Christopher Kolade were involved. That Obasanjo is linked to the blue-print, it will be a document of blackmail to Buhari very soon.
“Wonders will never end! How can Obasanjo who allegedly wasted eight years in government pursuing perceived enemies, and tried to ruin the legislative and judiciary arms of government in Nigeria; wasted $16 billion on power and not a single kilowatt of energy was produced, destroyed Aladja Steel, Itakpe Steel, Ajaokuta Steel, NITEL, just to mention a few FGN parastatals, now begin to advise Buhari?
“How can Obasanjo, whose government received, in one year, a revenue equivalent of the total revenue that IBB regime received in eight years, yet, nothing to show for it, be handing over blue-print to the in-coming administration?

olumide4christ: Buying a house off someone in order to put up for rentals even extends the payback period because the seller would like to make a profit which would make the building more expensive than if you were to construct it personally. Thanks. Therefore the key is to minimise land purchase to house completion time. Cheers. |

Properties › Re: Advice Me: I Want To Build A House In Mowe, With Aim Of Renting Out by anonimi: 4:17pm On Jul 01, 2016 |
olumide4christ: Many factors would affect my response. They include cost of land, cost of construction, cost of capital(in cases where the client borrowed funds), rental rates, etc. These factors combine together to affect ROI. These vary from place to place and as such, makes ROI faster or slower.
On a general note, houses built for rental purposes have a long payback period compared to those built for sale. That's the reason why some developers only build to sell & not rent.
The 5 years you mentioned is even very ambitious for lands in many areas including Lagos, 7 years & above is more realistic. Based on experience, I know that in some parts of Abuja, you can have about 5 years payback period, using the location where my personal project is as a case study. The land was about N5 million inclusive of infrastructure, construction cost is estimated at N10million, estimated yearly rental income from all the apartments is about N3 million per year. With the above, I believe 5 years payback period is achievable.
In the final analysis, I believe those who invest in rental properties do so with the motive of having a lifetime investment which they can transfer to coming generations; in such cases, payback period isn't really critical in the investment decision.
Regards. many thanks for breaking it down. However building and renting is rather a distorted view of the payback period as you only rent after many months/years of increasing investment before it can be rented. I am looking at a situation where you buy off someone and put to rent immediately (almost) and still recoup your outlay in 5 years. Looks like it is not possible in our country. |
