TonyeBarcanista: After penning the first article(above) I was not only insulted by some Buhari die-hards on that thread, but a prominent Buharist(Obiagelli) and her group created a "counter thread" with intent of justifying the so-called program. This forced me to spend my precious time to present another view on the subject (below). I think you should find that counter thread and post the OP here for reference and comparison. Cheers. |

difakozigi: One thing still stands straight, Jonathan's administration would have designed such website with a x2 of what you pointed out now . You will have to show where such expense was made in the last administration if you are not a LIAR, right And for the German BMW cars, believe me, I won't support Buhari on that. I'm too patriotic for that. I'm just hoping he makes amend. At least he advocates made in Nigeria, his predecessor advocates a complete negation to that when his minister was busy purchasing herself bulletproof cars outside the shores of Nigeria even when IVM was existing. For your information, IVM didn't just came to Nigeria in the closing part of last year, it has been there even during the time of the clueless one. Buhari is just about advocating and TALK while he does the exact opposite of what he said.Jonathan walks his talk on growing Nigerian manufacturing with the automotive policy and actually patronising the factories where possible. www.nairaland.com/attachments/2004715_bua_jpeg5519280c363f41c6751019ac422b54a9Banks to offer four-year car loans at 10% – Aganga
he Federal Government is to launch a car financing scheme involving both local and international banks by November.
This, according to Dr. Olusegun Aganga, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, will effectively put an end to the cash-and-carry mentality, while ensuring that many enjoy financing support in their desire to acquire new cars at cheaper cost.
Addressing newsmen on Thursday in Lagos on progress made in the government’s automotive policy, Aganga said the ongoing discussions involves ensuring that Nigerians get such loans at the rate of about 10 per cent, thereby reducing the cost significantly, over a four-year term.
“The Federal Government is not creating a pool of funds, but encouraging banks to buy-in, and we are working with them to reduce the interest rate and they have agreed. Government has brought the rate down close to about 10 per cent. The pool of funds can be as big as (the banks) want it, based on commercial consideration,” he added.
The Minister said the import duties for cars remain 35 per cent and no more.
Making clarifications, he said just as in the sugar industry, backward integration is ongoing in the automobile industry, following which global car manufacturing brands like Nissan, Peugeot Leyland, among others, have already started local assembly of their various brands.
He said, whereas the real duty is 35 per cent for those who have set up plants and are engaged in production in the country, auto dealers who have not invested in backward integration by acquiring land, and setting up their plants for manufacturing would be charged 70 per cent for importing new vehicles. The used vehicles, he explained, would remain at the rate of 35 per cent.
Aganga said the 14 vehicle assembly plant owners, under the new policy and to help meet the supply and demand gap in the meantime, would continue import new cars at 35 per cent. They would however pay zero duty when importing Completely Knocked Down (CKD) parts; while the first type of Semi-CKD is to attract five per cent duty; and the second grade- 10 per cent.
He said this brings the blended rate for the new, CDK and both classes of Semi-CKDs to about 20 per cent.

A national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has cleared the air on the alleged enmity between him and a former two-term Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
Tinubu, who spoke through Mr. Wale Edun at the 25th anniversary celebration of Otunba Gbenga Daniels’ Kresta Laurel, said there is no truth in the stories that he has been fighting with Gbenga Daniel, adding that they are still good friends.
Edun said: “I am here representing Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and my presence is to show that there is no friction between Asiwaju and Otunba Gbenga Daniel”
Mr. Edun went on to explain that whenever Tinubu drives past the Kresta Laurel building in Maryland, Lagos, he remembers the enormous contributions Daniel made to the take off of his administration in 1999 and was immensely grateful.
He revealed that the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain was very gracious to donate the Kresta Laurel building to Tinubu’s campaign team at the time it was just being completed.
“The Daniels also made a section of their home available to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu whenever he worked too late and could not go home. After the election, he also allowed us to use it for the Transition Committee where he was a member”

babadee1: You forget that Yorubas voted massively for Jonathan in 2011, against this same Buhari. You should be asking yourself what changed between 2011 and 2015. We voted Jonathan in 2011 mostly because our Asiwaju Asiwere ordered us to do so. Most Yorubas did not vote Jonathan in 2015 because they were misled by the demonisation onslaught by the same Asiwere who was out on a personal vengeance after the CCT trial of October 2011. Understood Some here may not understand the import of these results. It shows that after the collapse of ACN/CPC talks, Jonathan was able to secure a guarantee from Tinubu and the other ACN leaders to soft pedal in the South West for him to have a foothold in the region, hence the bright showing of PDP in the West. On the other hand, Ribadu and Shekarau agreed to support one of their own - Buhari, hence the resurgence of CPC all over the Northern States.
These things could not be announced openly due to the closeness of the agreement to the election date, but the messages were relayed to party leaders at ward levels and also to party agents, hence the incident of ACN agents voting for PDP.
The fact that this election throws up is that South - South coalition can defeat the Northern oligarchy in free and fair elections - that is, if Jonathan wins. The great sage, Awo foresaw this possibility in his lifetime which explains his oft recourse to selecting Igbo Vice Presidential candidates, but the propaganda machines of the oligarchy prevented a south-south coalition to see the light of the day. Today, Awo is being vindicated, the south can actually win the presidency of Nigeria without bowing to the shenanigans of the oligarchy.

Enugu, March 5, 2015 (NAN) The Federal Government has promised to promptly complete the outstanding 58 kilometres of the Enugu-Onitsha highway and the 61km of the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.
The Minister of Works, Mr Mike Onolememen, made the promise in Enugu on Thursday while inaugurating the rehabilitation of the roads.
Onolememen regretted the delay in the rehabilitation of the roads for decades, saying that the government would do everything to ensure their completion.
``The rehabilitation was in line with the transformation agenda of the Federal Government to boost the economy of the zone as well as reduce poverty,’’ he said.
On the Enugu-Onitsha road, the minister said the 58-km Enugu-Amansea section was awarded to RCC Nig. Ltd at the cost of N24.2 billion while the 61-km Lokpanta-Port Harcourt section of the Enugu-Port Harcourt road was awarded to CGC Nig. Ltd at the cost of N32.3 billion.
Onolememen said the contract duration for the Enugu-Onitsha road was 36 months while that of Enugu-Port Harcourt would last for 24 months.

I Will Maintain a modest lifestyle as President -Muhammadu Buhari.
“One of the major killers of our economy apart from corruption is waste. Our scarce resources are being plundered away very carelessly and unnecessarily wasted. Let me give an instance, presently, there are more than 6 aircraft in the presidential fleet. What do you call that? Billions of naira is budgeted every year for the maintenance of these aircraft not to talk of operational cost and other expenses.
You may want to ask what a Nigerian President is doing with so many aircraft when a Prime Minister of Britain fly around using the same public aircraft like an ordinary Briton.
Go and check and compare with that of any developed country in the world, the office of the Nigerian President is a very expensive one inspite our high level of poverty, lack and joblessness. Despite all these, you still find a Nigerian Minister spending about N10billion to charter an aircraft for just one year. Now, for me, when we come into office, all these waste will be blocked and properly channelled into our economy. We intend for instance, to bring back our National carrier, the Nigerian airways. We shall do this by bringing all the aircraft in the presidential fleet into the Nigerian airways and within a year increase the fleet into about 20.

The push by the opposition, All Progressives Congress, APC to dislodge the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP received a boost yesterday as former President Olusegun Obasanjo openly threw his weight behind the APC’s current initiatives. The APC leadership, comprising some national leaders and governors visited him Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Saturday to solicit the former president’s support for the party in the forthcoming elections. The party leaders, which started converging on Obasanjo’s Hilltop Mansion around 5:22pm, included former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the party’s Interim National Chairman, Bisi Akande; former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari; former speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Masari; former Borno State governor, Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff; Senator Osita Isunazor; Senator Bukola Saraki and Lai Mohammed. Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State came to the former president’s house in company with the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissioin, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; the former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and others in a convoy of three black jeeps. Other APC governors at the meeting included Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Abdulfattah Ahmed (Kwara), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) and Senator Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo). The Chairman of the New PDP, Kawu Baraje led some of his members and the former Kaduna State Chairman, Yero Makama, to the meeting. Presenting the party chieftains and the APC governors to Obasanjo during the opening of the meeting, Akande said the party was in support of the former president’s 18-page letter to President Goodluck Jonathan. The APC National Leader, Tinubu who alluded to Obasanjo’s contribution to the building of the Nigerian nation, lamented that the country was divided more than ever. Apparently referring to Obasanjo’s recent letter to Jonathan, he enjoined the former president not to shy away from speaking the truth. Tinubu added that the APC had resolved to rescue Nigeria, appealing to Obasanjo to lead the mission. “You’ve come out of tribulation and held the highest position in this country. We are here because of your courage. Nobody can say he has information more than you. You have surmounted a number of crises. Nigeria is divided more than before; to realise stable Nigeria, we want to encourage you to continue to speak the truth. We’re resolved and determined to rescue Nigeria. We want you as navigator,” he said.
