2cul2care: When I see some peoples comment on this border closure of a thing it makes me wonder, those of you supporting the border closure, do u really think any nation can survive on its own, without the help of other nations, no nation is self sufficient, even AMERICA WORLD POWER can't survive on its own without help from other nations.
The same way goods are being imported into NIGERIA is the same way we also export goods to other nations, so when we are unable to export our own products aren't we loosing too.
If Buhari claims he closed the border because of smuggling then my question is, the custom officers at the border what exactly are they doing, are they there to fry Akara, if our customs do their job their will be no case of smuggling.
Buttom line is our president and the goverment in general doesn't give a damn about us, if u don't already know that by now, I really don't know what to say to u.
Just imagine Lai Mohammed wants to borrow $500m to upgrade NTA a channel nobody watches anymore, a channel that has stopped being relevant since the 90's, with all our debts they still want to plunge the country into more debt and worsen the economic situation.
SERIOUSLY DO THE MATH, AND REASON FOR YOURSELF Yes, our Customs people are at the borders to fry akara, just like Aisha before her husband got elected in 2015 after repeatedly failing to get the job since 2003. www.nairaland.com/attachments/2215185_cajsadpweaamqov_jpegafa6ac10c427a3c9b127c5d0381eed26 |

SoNature: Even though everyone is rejoicing because of the impact it has on Nigeria's economy, I don't consider this a smart move.
Imagine if all the countries we sell our goods to shut down their borders in retaliation.
If Buhari feels that there's too much smuggling in Nigeria, it means that the customs is not doing its job. Yes, it is an internal problem, so it should be sorted out in-house.
Notice that there are Nigerian businesses that export to Nigerian borders through the borders. This means that when the border is finally reopened, their customers would have sourced another reliable suppliers.
Again, the solution is not closing the border. Apparently, Nigerian customs is the problem and should be reformed with many people of questionable characters laid off.
Buhari has been a bundle of disappointment because if Sunday Ehindero could stop the police from collecting roadside bribe, Buhari can sanitize the customs. It's very annoying that Buhari hasn't been able to "clean up" one institution of government even though he tells us that he is fighting corruption. www.nairaland.com/attachments/2829596_img6325197050325_jpeg_jpeg61db8b350e65ada0da8fdf4018fb03e4https://africanarguments.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/BuhariPoster.jpg |

Former Head of State and Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Major General Muhammadu Buhari has faulted the federal government’s clampdown on Boko Haram Islamic insurgents.
He accused the government of killing and destroying their houses while the Niger Delta militants were given special treatment by the government. Buhari who spoke on Sunday on a Liberty Radio programme, Guest of the Week monitored in Kaduna also admitted that the road to the registration of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was rough, pointing out that the promoters of the party were well prepared for any hitch that may arise. Buhari who first spoke in Hausa before the English version accused politicians from the Niger Delta region of starting the current in security in the country by recruiting and arming youths of the region in their desperate attempt to retain power as governors.
The former Nigerian leader said that unlike the special treatment given to the Niger Delta militants by the federal government, the Boko Haram members were being killed and their houses demolished by government. While accusing President Jonathan of failing from the beginning to address the security situation in the country, Buhari said he has never been in support of the state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa state. According to Buhari “what is responsible for the security situation in the country is caused by the activities of Niger Delta militants. Every Nigerian that is familiar with what is happening knows this. The Niger Delta militants started it all.
“What happened is that the governors of the Niger Delta region at that time wanted to win their elections. So they recruited the youths and gave them guns and bullets and used them against their opponents to win elections by force. “After the elections were over, they asked the boys to return the guns; the boys refused to return the guns. Because of that, the allowance that was being given to the youths by the governors during that time was stopped.
“The youths resorted to kidnapping oil workers and were collecting dollars as ransom. Now a boy of 18 to 20 years was getting about 500 dollars in a week, why will he go to school and spend 20 years to study and then come back and get employed by government to be paid N100,000 a month, that is if he is lucky to get employment.
“So kidnapping becomes very rampant in the South -South and the South -East. They kidnapped people and were collecting money. “How did Boko Haram start? We know that their leader, Mohammed Yusuf started his militant and the police couldn’t control them and the army was invited. He was arrested by soldiers and handed over to the police. “The appropriate thing to do, according to the law, was for the police to carry out investigations and charge him to court for prosecution, but they killed him, his in-law was killed, they went and demolished their houses.
“Because of that, his supporters resorted to what they are doing today. You see in the case of the Niger Delta militants, the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua sent an aeroplane to bring them, he sat down with them and discussed with them, they were cajoled, and they were given money and granted amnesty. “They were trained in some skills and were given employment, but the ones in the north were being killed and their houses were being demolished. They are different issues, what brought this? It is injustice”.

myobjective: Bro the statistic is spot on, people don't know how poor the north is. When you go to the north you will believe this statistic totally.
Forget about those that come here to share pictures of flyovers and roads in Kano or Kaduna government reserved areas, majority of northerners live in the rural areas. Do you know that Kano municipal is only about 499 square kilometers with a lower population than Ibadan municipal that is over 3080 square kilometers? Most people in Kano lives in their rural areas where poverty is very high.
On average, most northern states get more in allocation than southwestern States but yet states like Osun that gets half of what Sokoto gets in a month is much better both in infrastructure and human development index. Last five years we perform a social experiment where I and three of my friend's tour 4 southwestern States, 3 north-central states, 3 northwestern states, 3 south southern states and 3 southeastern states.
All the southern states and 2 north central states such as a Kwara and Kogi have a high concentration of educated individual and wealth in their rural areas but from Niger state up the story becomes very bleak. How come the Kano state population and votes are more than Lagos state?A whole Lagos state www.nairaland.com/attachments/11029676_nigeria2006census_jpeg1263acd1a865975c60f1077957ed0d2fwww.nairaland.com/attachments/8876706_presidentialresultoverall_jpegb126061c5ec309be2e2e8d801188b59f |

GermanMelania: Nigeria isnt dependant on foreign aid. You can't/ or shouldn't stop NGOs. They can provide a valuable service when they are not engaging in poverty porn/ exploitation. We do not have enough money to shun aid. The north needs it. Those almajiris need it. They do not care where the money is coming from they want to eat and have shelter. We need vaccinations. Isreal accepts foreign aid. Ukraine accepts. It is usually a part of trade. I honestly can't answer your question as your question pass my pay grade. Maybe someone smarter can answer. Nigeria doesn't accept a lot of things other countries do. Like we do not allow foreign adoptions. In fact if a nigerian is married to a foreigner they can not adopt from nigeria legally. Is that why you are German Melania liljboy: It’s okay to marry a woman old enough to be your mother, you can still explain that as love, but someone old enough to be your grandmother?
www.nairaland.com/attachments/4914275_df_jpeg373e55dea7e43f08e80004f94f67a4a7 todaynewsreview: The bodies of at least 74 migrants have been washed ashore in western Libya, in the latest tragedy along the dangerous trafficking route to Europe. The Libyan Red Crescent posted photos of dozens of bodies in black and white bags lined up along the shore near the western city of Zawiya. A spokesman for the aid organisation said there were still bodies floating out at sea as the agency had no way of retrieving them. He said the migrants were all adults, mostly from sub-Saharan African countries, and all but three were men. The UN migration agency, the International Organisation of Migration (IOM), said the dinghy had set off on Saturday with 110 people on board. The agency said traffickers deliberately took the engines from the boat and then abandoned it to drift.

GermanMelania: It isn't just nigerians inflating the numbers the western NGOs are just as guilty.
Remember the hiv crisis when everyone was supposed to drop dead? Hospitals would be diagnosing everythinh as hiv to get more funding Herw is the problem with western funding though. If America gives you money they require you to hire anericans, buy american products with the money. Imagine havibf to buy $1500 MAC computers instead of using the same money to buy 5 china computers. Then you hire americans at 200k usd per year plus housing and other sundry. Where as you woulf have hired a nigeran at 30k usd. Foreign AID Is a scam.
Also there is no such thing as western education. It is just plain education . Formal education. The first university in the worls was was in Asia and Africa (Morocco i think) Must we accept western funding |

MrStan11:
I always laugh when people think that your zone producing president would better the life of people in that area. We have a weak institution that was build along tribal and religious line. That's why Osibanjo is deputizing Buhari, Peter Obi deputizing Atiku. With this their Boko haram of a thing, Isis will turn to Africa once they are dislodge from Syria, So 87% poverty rate is even a good rate to compare to what the future beholds. The only solution is not Building flyover but making 80% of their budget go into Basic Education and Secondary Schools. Not Universities. Anyway what do I know? They don't want your solution. They need the almajiris to terrorise, intimidate, kill and subjugate the southerners forever.www.nairaland.com/attachments/2027919_image_jpeg9f360c5ab7736510df54c882e9dbf188 |

khingTony: it not surprising what's surprising is the fact that this region is so backward, yet, they dictate what happens in this country. And drag everyone to their low level in the process. After 50 years of Independence, the government of the so called disadvantaged regions ought to have done something to address the situation. You cannot continue to spoon-feed a child and expect that same child to grow, mature and be independent. A student from Abia scores 130 in the Federal Commonwealth Entrance exam, yet it's almost impossible to gain admission in the school of his choice, yet another child from Zamfara will score less than 5 and gain same admission seamlessly. How do you encourage such a child that hard work and merit pays?
Look at all the appointments the president has made so far, over 90% from the north. They are telling us they are based on merit. My question is how comes, when it comes to appointment, they are hiding under merit to appoint only their own, but when it comes to exams and admission into Federal institutions, they bring in Federal character. I'm an advocate of merit, hardwork, transparency, objectivity and emperical selection process. That way you encourage everybody to work hard for whatever he/she wants. After all, the Bible says, "he who does not work, let him not eat". It's against natural and spiritual justice and principle to take from those who work and give to those who don't work. That in itself is the root of corruption Nigeria.
I support the President's fight against corruption. I advocate the enthronement of merit and objectivity in our national life. So, Mr. President, if you are serious about your anti-corruption mantra, If you are serious about this your new "merit" policy, let's go back to the basis. Start by eliminating all forms of quota system and federal character in the admission process into Unity schools, Federal universities and recruitment/ employment into all federal civil service, agencies, parastatals and let's see who will be qualified. That's my humble submission. Atikuorbuhari: The Government primary school, U.B.E, Yabani under Zango Kataf Local Government area, Kaduna State has no chairs for students to sit on.
Students of the school sits on the floor everyday to learn and have gotten almost so used to this system of learning.
See photos of the students learning under such conditions...

Awol1: Congratulations to the north then.
87% poverty rate in your domain. Which means paltry 13% is left to be shared by the East, West and South.
Yet you guys with your born-to-rule mentality wouldn't mind voting a cow into power so long as he's a nortberner instead of someone with the capacity to better your lots.
My anger is that some who are educated also put themselves in this self delusion helping to 0subjugate the illiterate multitude with tribe and religion.
Believe me, if this country breaks today, the poor will eat the rich in the north.
