Group commends Akpabio for disclosing ‘Recess Allowance’ to Senators on Live TV, Enjoins other public officials to emulate him

Foundation for True Freedom and Public Accountability, a leading advocate for transparency and accountability in government, commends Senate President Godswill Akpabio for his recent announcement on live TV, wherein he disclosed the recess allowance provided to senators during their break.

This commendable act of transparency sets a positive precedent for public officeholders and fosters trust between elected officials and the citizens they serve.

In a time when the public demands greater openness and accountability from their representatives, Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s decision to publicly disclose the recess allowance demonstrates a commitment to the principles of good governance. By ensuring that the information is available to the public, he has taken a significant step towards enhancing transparency in the legislative process.

The decision to make the recess allowance information public is particularly noteworthy given the prevailing challenges of misinformation and distrust facing our society today. By proactively addressing the issue and providing clarity on the allowance, Senate President Godswill Akpabio is reinforcing the importance of transparency and accountability in public service.

Transparency is a cornerstone of good governance, and it is essential in fostering public trust and confidence in our democratic institutions. When public officials are forthcoming about their financial arrangements, it instills a sense of responsibility and credibility in the minds of the citizens they represent. By choosing to disclose the recess allowance, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has shown leadership and integrity in his commitment to serving the Nigerian people.

We call on other public officials to follow the example set by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Transparency should be a guiding principle for all elected representatives, as it strengthens democracy and enables citizens to make informed judgments about the governance of their country.

It is important to note that the money we are talking about here according to Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission for Lawmakers Recess Allowance, Once Annually is,

Senate President: ₦248,424.25
Deputy Senate President: ₦230,916.70

Speaker House of Reps: ₦247,711.00

We also encourage the Nigerian public to remain engaged and hold their elected representatives accountable for their actions. Through active participation and continued demands for transparency, we can collectively build a more accountable and responsive government.

The group notes that the Senate President’s decision regarding the Recess Allowance is also a means for senators to address the needs of their constituents as many of them will be visiting them for the first time since inauguration into 10th Senate.

Foundation for True Freedom and Public Accountability commends Godswill Akpabio for his commitment to transparency and accountability and encourages him to continue prioritizing these principles throughout his tenure. We look forward to witnessing more initiatives that promote openness and trust between the government and the people.

A litre of fuel in Nigeria costs ₦617 or $0.78

Please Fact-Check me:

Things are not easy in Nigeria. The government must increase the minimum wage and work with the private sector to improve the economy. Having said that, Nigeria is not the worst country on Earth. Quite the opposite. There are much benefits to being a Nigerian. Many countries would die to have the economic conditions we have in Nigeria. Things are not perfect. They can be a lot better. PoliticsWhy David Hundeyin Was Arrested, Detained And Deported From Zimbabwe by AnonPoet(op): 10:08am On Jul 20, 2023
As written by Nick Mangwana A Permanent Secy: Information Publicity & Broadcasting Svcs at Republic of Zimbabwe.

It seems David Hundeyin while carrying a Nigerian Passport, he is seeking asylum in Ghana and those are the papers he travelled with. Unfortunately for him, Ghanians are not allowed in Zimbabwe without a VISA and he was promptly arrested, detained and deported

I am sorry that this journalist found himself in this situation. That said, we do have Immigration laws in our country that are obligatory to all prospective entrants, and no profession is immune to them. If someone’s travel document is such that they need a Visa, that law applies to everyone including “an award winning journalist”. Our laws are blind to social stations or attended achievements.
https://twitter.com/nickmangwana/status/1681772621346615298?t=rUMVySuOKm6OboyE8r9tsw&s=19

Jaqui, since he has chosen to put all his issues out without making full disclosure, it forces us to give details we would have preferred not. But we realize this may affect how Zimbabweans are treated when they visit Nigeria so we are going give the information here. David came with Ghanaian Refuge papers claiming he was a Nigerian who was a refuge from his home country. His country of Asylum is Ghana after claiming to be running away from persecution in Nigeria. People in this category certainly need Visas to enter Zimbabwe. He wasn’t coming in to work as a journalist. He said he was just coming to visit but without getting a Visa in Ghana first. Other parts of his story were also unsatisfactory to the immigration authorities. He was considered not a candidate for entry into Zimbabwe.
https://twitter.com/nickmangwana/status/1681904743793274880?t=rUMVySuOKm6OboyE8r9tsw&s=19

The great fraternal relationships between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Zimbabwe do not preclude the nationals of either country from the inconvenience of meeting Visa requirements of either sister nation. You are not even sure whether he is even being treated as a Nigerian or another nationality. And it’s unethical for me as offices to discuss an individual’s live immigration case on Twitter giving all personal circumstances. What I can assure you is that by now I have already established that he failed to meet certain immigration requirements and entry was refused. That is as far as I can go. The Nigerian Consulate may be able to make the necessary interventions which speak to our historical and current relations. Good Night.

PoliticsBinani Accused Of Stopping Prosecution Of Suspended Adamawa REC, Ari by AnonPoet(op): 2:25pm On Jul 11, 2023
Suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari, will be brought in to testify for Aishatu Dairu (Binani), the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Adamawa in the 2023 general election, our correspondent has gathered.

Recall that on Monday 10th July 2023, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja granted an ex-parte order to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from going ahead with the prosecution of the suspended REC, Ari.

The order came just two days ahead of the commencement of the REC’s trial following his controversial declaration of the candidate of the APC, Aishatu Dahiru, as the Governor of the State.

A statement by INEC on said the Nigeria Police investigated the matter and established a prima facie case against the REC on the basis of which the electoral body commenced his prosecution at the Adamawa State High Court in line with the provisions of Sec. 145 (1) and (2) of the Electoral Act 2022.

However, Binani approached a federal High Court and secured an order stopping INEC and the police from prosecuting the embattled REC.

Sources allege that the reason why Binani approached the Court in Abuja to stop the prosecution is because the REC was at her beck and call and worked with her to perpetrate his illegity.

Binani has filed a case at the Election Petition Tribunal challenging the conclusion and declaration of the election by INEC in favour of the candidate of the PDP and incumbent Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri.

The case at the Abuja High Court is intended to shield the REC from criminal prosecution to facilitate his appearance at the Tribunal as Binani’s star witness.

“In the desperation to win the election at all cost, it does not occur to Binani that she is hiding behind one finger by inviting the REC as her own witness thereby confirming that far from being neutral, he is a compromised official working for a particular candidate contrary to his oath of office,” the source said.

Investigation further revealed that although the police ceased his international passport, placed him on administrative bail and asked him to be reporting every week day at the Force HQ, he somehow managed to travel outside the country presumably in order to perform the hajj (pilgrimage) in Saudi Arabia.

PoliticsLagos Advocates Safe Conversion Of Petrol To LPG As Fuel For Domestic Use by AnonPoet(op): 7:13pm On Jun 18, 2023
PRESS RELEASE
LAGOS ADVOCATES SAFE CONVERSION OF PETROL TO LPG AS FUEL FOR DOMESTIC USE

The Lagos State Government has advocates safe conversion of petrol for domestic use.

The Director General, Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, disclosed that The Babajide Sanwo-olu's Administration is committed to ensure safety of lives and properties of it's citizery.

According to him, with the recent development on subsidy removal in the country which has led to the hike in the pump price of PMS and the resulting discomfort to the citizens, the conversion of petrol generators in homes and offices to LPG generators has risen considerably.

He stated that powering generators and plants with alternative fuels like Liquiedfied Petroleum Gas(LPG) or Compressed Natural Gas( CNG) offers several benefits including:
CNG and LPG are generally cheaper than petrol, offering potential cost savings over the long term.

These fuels are cleaner, and so do not contaminate the air as much as petrol and diesel do.

Natural gas and LPG are often more abundant and domestically sourced in certain regions compared to petrol. This can provide greater fuel availability and independence from fluctuations in petrol prices or supply disruptions.
CNG and LPG combustion generally produce less noise compared to petrol. This results in quieter generator operation, which can be beneficial for residential use and minimize noise pollution.

He declared that the Lagos State Government wishes to alert the general public of the safety hazards and risks inherent in the conversion process in the use of these LPG- powered generators at homes and offices which includes:

I. Spark or heat from the generator can cause fire outbreak if gas leakage occurs from the hose or cylinder valve.

II. Explosion could occur if the generator house is not properly ventilated thereby allowing gas leak build up in enclosed space.

III. LPG is bottled under high pressure with potential for explosions if not properly handled.

V. Gas cylinders can fall and roll off if not placed on even flooring. When this happens, the gas hose can pull out leading to uncontrolled leakages.

VI. Corrosion of gas cylinders can occur when left in the rain or in humid environment.

VII. Exposure to direct sunlight can expose cylinders to excessive temperature with attendant risk of explosion.

VIII. Poor installation of the hybrid carburettors on generators can increase the risks of accident.

IX. CNG should be discouraged for household generating sets except for special cases like large estates with plants for power generation.

X. Use of sub-standard, dilapidated or expired cylinders substantially increases risks of gas explosion.

Speaking also, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Ms Shola Shasore said that it is important to note that converting a petrol generator to use alternative and less expensive fuels may require modifications and the installation of appropriate conversion kits by qualified professionals.

She said the general public is hereby advised to engage ONLY qualified technicians for this service. When in doubt, please contact the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources or Lagos State Safety Commission for guidance on professional vendors and installation as well as appropriate safety guidelines.

PoliticsIs Asari Dokubo Aggrieved And Want Tompolo’s Contract? by AnonPoet(op): 10:12am On Jun 18, 2023
“Niger Delta Militant, Asari Dokubo is aggrived, wants Tompolo's contract” – Coalition of Ex Niger Delta Militants

Asari Dokubo, a former militant who was the head of a Niger Delta faction allegedly known for blowing up major pipelines owned by the International Oil Companies (IOCs), recently held a press briefing where he stated that he is ready to volunteer to secure the offshore oil pipelines, a job that his fellow ex-militant, Tompolo has been involved in with some oil producing firms and NGOs.

In a move that seems like a desperate bid for a contract, Asari Dokunbo alleged that the Military were behind the major oil theft heist in the country. This seems to be a sudden show of patriotism and love for the newly elected president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

His former friend now turned foe, Tompolo, is believed to be currently involved in some security projects with IOCs

In the last 3months, the organisation for petroleum exporting countries (OPEC) confirmed that Nigeria has recorded an increase in its oil production volumes

Asari, an ex-militant, is no stranger to controversy. He took a swipe at the end sars protest and protesters which took place in 2020, describing it with condemning terms and blaming the protesters.

What lies ahead for the Niger Delta people as the two of their sons lock horns!?

Will Asari succeed again in blackmailing the Government?

PoliticsIs Akin Alabi The Fastest Rising Politician In Oyo State? by AnonPoet(op): 9:40am On Jun 17, 2023
As the dust settles over the National Assembly leadership elections where Hon. Tajudeen Abbas was elected as the Speaker of the House Of Representatives in a hotly contested election that he eventually won by a canter, the next phase for the newly elected and returning legislators is legislation, oversight functions and community relations.

One of the Members that stood out during the election is Hon.Akin Alabi representing Egbeda/Ona Ara in Oyo state, he won his re election for a second term in the green chamber in May after effective and quality representation in his first term where he presented life changing bills like the Bill to establish a medical center in Ona Ara(Establishment bill) 2020, A Bill for an Act to Establish Vocational and Technical studies institute in Egbeda, Promoted gender equality with the constitutional amendment Bill to stop the discrimination against women in the Nationality law by allowing wives pass their citizenship to foreign husbands and a Bill to stop the FRSC from bearing arms.

Hon. Alabi also moved much needed motions like the motion on the urgent need to proscribe SARS at the height of their human rights abuse, a motion to make the INEC voter registration to be truly continuous, pro business motions like the motion to address the purported FIRS move to charge VAT on online transactions, motion against APCON’s move to vet and regulate online advertising by non advertising practitioners and the need to stop online loan creditors from harassing their clients.

PoliticsNow That Subsidy Is Gone, What Is The Plan? - Babajide Fadoju by AnonPoet(op): 7:46am On Jun 11, 2023
Now that subsidy is gone, what is the plan? Subsidies play a significant role in shaping economic policies in many countries, including Nigeria. Subsidies are government incentives that aim to support specific industries or sectors by reducing the cost of goods or services.

However, the effect of subsidy removal on the Nigerian economy has been a subject of much debate and analysis. Subsidies have long been used by the Nigerian government to support various sectors primarily the energy sector.

These subsidies are intended to stimulate economic growth, encourage investment, and alleviate the burden of high costs on consumers.

For instance, fuel subsidies have been implemented to ensure affordable prices for petroleum products, as Nigeria heavily relies on oil for its revenue.

Due to several imports, the subsidy on petrol has to be removed. For one the federal government cannot afford the subsidy payment anymore.

By removing subsidies, the government can redirect its spending towards more productive sectors.

The funds that were previously allocated to subsidies can be channeled into infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and other critical areas that can foster long-term economic growth.

The removal of subsidy is good for the industry; growth will be engendered as several players can now play competitively, efficiency will become the cornerstone to build on and this will aid product delivery to the end users.
The removal of subsidies can promote economic efficiency by allowing market forces to determine prices and allocate resources more effectively.

When subsidies are in place, they can distort market signals, leading to inefficiencies and suboptimal resource allocation. By removing subsidies, the government can create an environment that encourages competition and innovation, driving economic growth in the long run.

That is just one way to look at it, according to economic analysts, the removal of subsidies will trigger a temporary spike in inflation as the prices of essential commodities rise. However, over time, the market will adjust to the new price equilibrium, and inflationary pressures may stabilize.

One of the primary concerns surrounding subsidy removal is its impact on low-income households. These households often heavily rely on subsidized goods for their daily needs.

When subsidies are removed, the cost of living may increase, posing challenges for vulnerable segments of society.

To counter this, the government is prepared to review several areas of the fiscal economy. The government is prepared to review the minimum wage and provide palliatives for the most vulnerable.

More importantly, the money recouped from subsidy will be reallocated into infrastructure development and social programs, fostering sustainable economic growth.

It might be hard at first, but we will cross this rubicon and the country will be better for it.

When was the fuel subsidy removed in Nigeria?: Contrary to popular opinion, the subsidy regime was ended by the assent to the Petroleum Industry Act by the then president, Muhammadu Buhari in February of 2022. However, the nation was not ready and the budgetary allocation continued into May of 2023 – the end of the Buhari administration.

How does subsidy removal impact inflation? Subsidy removal can lead to short-term inflationary pressures as the prices of subsidized goods or services increase. However, over time, the market can adjust to the new price equilibrium, and inflation may stabilise.

Are there alternative measures for subsidy removal?: Yes, there are alternative measures that can be considered before resorting to subsidy removal. These include subsidy reforms, targeting subsidies to specific populations, improving subsidy delivery mechanisms, and implementing fiscal consolidation measures.

What are the potential social implications of subsidy removal?: Subsidy removal can have social implications, particularly for low-income households. The increased cost of living may pose challenges for vulnerable segments of society. However, by redirecting resources, the government can implement targeted social welfare programs to mitigate the adverse effects.

What are the long-term benefits of subsidy removal?: The long-term benefits of subsidy removal include improved fiscal sustainability, increased government revenue, reduced corruption opportunities, economic efficiency, and the reallocation of resources to critical sectors.

TravelPeace Mass Transit Says Bus Fares Will Not Be Increased Despite Fuel Price by AnonPoet(op): 12:43pm On Jun 07, 2023
Fuel subsidy: Management of Peace Mass Transit has announced that fares to all it's travel destinations across the country will not be increased despite the recent hike in fuel prices.

Chairman of Peace Mass Transport, Dr Sam Onyishi who made this known says transport fares will remain same as all extra costs resulting from the new fuel prices will be absorbed by the company

Travelling customers of leading road transport company, Peace Mass Transit Limited, will not have to pay more for their journeys, despite the recent over 200% increase in the price of fuel nationwide.

General Manager of the company, Ifeanyi Enete, directed depot staff and cooperative members in an internal correspondence, to stick to the company's old price regime, despite the new petroleum product prices announced by the NNPC last week.

NNPC action had apparently flowed from the announcement of abolition of fuel subsidy by Alhaji Bola Tinubu, on the day of his inauguration as President.

Onyishi, made the decision halt any form of increase in cost of transportation by the PMT fleet, as a gesture of goodwill to, and support for the company's teeming customers, who are burdened by the increasing cost of living in the country.

He has directed the General Manager, and 12 co-operative societies that operate the PMT fleet to execute his instructions to the latter.

"Our chairman, in his benevolence, has directed us not to increase transport fares, despite the skyrocketed increase in the pump price, as a result of fuel subsidy removal", GM Enete, told staff and member of the cooperatives.

"He did this as a sacrifice to mitigate the suffering of Nigerians", he added.

Explaining further, Dr Onyishi listed the reasons behind this selfless decision.

"This time calls for sacrifice; we should all think about what we can do for Nigeria, and not what Nigeria can do for us...

"...It will definitely be tough but we shall endure for the sake of humanity, after all we were paying our workers during covid-19 without any income...

"The same God will do it for us again."

PoliticsPlateau APC Group Tells Tinubu Not To Reward Members Who Worked Against APC by AnonPoet(op): 9:54am On Jun 07, 2023
Plateau - Group calls on President Tinubu not to reward stakeholders who worked against APC with political appointments

The Group operating under the aegis of Plateau APC Renaissance Movement ( PAPCRM) has lamented that several stakeholders in the state who participated in large scale anti party actives during the 2023 general elections are now been seen in the presidency seeking for political appointment .

The group led by its Chairman Hon George Yilji, in a statement made available to newsmen in Jos called on President Bola Tinubu to ignore those who worked against the party ( APC) in the last general elections.

The statement reads that We as a group have it on good authority that several stakeholders who worked against the party ,like Ex Governor Joshua Dariye ,the former minister of women affairs Dame Pauline Tallen , Hon Komsol Alphonsus Longgap, Hon Danyaro Sarpiya and others are now lobbying for political appointments and recently visited the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to congratulate him over his appointment.

Also not left out is the Incumbent Senator representing Plateau Central in the National Assembly, Senator Hezekiah Dimka who worked against the APC in his local government council all because he lost out in the APC Governorship Primaries .

According to the group " Senator Dimka who is from the same local government council with the Plateau Governorship Candidate of the APC in the state Dr Nentawe Yilwatda mobilised resources and worked against his party in both the Presidential and Governorship election.

They added that "As we speak the People of his local government council especially APC members are not happy with him over his large scale anti party activities in both the Presidential and Governorship election ,thereby losing touch with the people of his LGA and Senatorial district at large .

Most of these stakeholders are the ones who betrayed the APC in Plateau ,The former minister of women affairs Dame Pauline Tallen and Incumbent Senator representing Plateau South Dame Nora Ladi Daduut all worked against the APC in the Presidential election because they said their faith as a members of the Papal knight would not allow them vote or work for the victory of a Muslim/Muslim ticket.

We have it on good authority that Dame Pauline Tallen who was then Minister for women affairs mobilised resources and worked against the APC in the Presidential election as she worked for the Presidential Candidate of the Labour party Peter Obi ,as she was seen sharing rice and other campaign materials calling on her supporters to work for the Labour party .

Also we have it on record that she worked for the People's Democratic Party ,during the Governorship election in the state ,the poor performance of the APC in Plateau state was as a result of this anti party activities from critical stakeholders of APC in Plateau state .

For Dame Nora Daduut it could be recalled that her convoy came under attack in Namu Community in Quanpan local government council recently because of her anti party activities ,as she was booed for working against her party by APC members.

As a group ,we are aware of the anti party activities of Former Minister of State for Information , Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande who worked for the People's Democratic Party both at the Presidential and Governorship election in Plateau to the extent that he wrote a letter of support to the Plateau state chapter of the PDP as reported by some national dailies.

We want to call the attention of our President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the anti party activities of Dr Danyaro Sarpiya, an aspirant in the APC primaries in Plateau who dragged the APC to court and frustrated the party in the build up to the election inorder to have his kinsman who is the Candidate of the PDP to emerge victorious at the polls.

According to the group, "Hon Sarpiya frustrated all efforts carried out by the state APC to broker peace in the party ,before the Presidential and Governorship polls.

To us as APC Youths we call on President Bola Tinubu not to have anything to do with them as they worked against the APC in Plateau state .

Acts of anti party should not be rewarded with Political appointment.

Most of this stakeholders who now rush to Aso rock from Plateau state seeking for Political relevance where neck deep in anti party activities as the fought the then Plateau state Governor Simon Lalong and ensured the APC performed poorly in the 2023 polls .

As a group we have it on record that the former Governor of Plateau state ,Chief Joshua Dariye worked against the APC both at the Presidential and Governorship election in Plateau state and is now shamefully congratulating the President and some newly appointed officials in the APC government .

The videos of the former Governor Joshua Dariye congratulating the then Governor elect now Governor of Plateau state Bar Caleb Mutfwang is almost on every social media space in Plateau.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oruHckm7928

“ Rather than be considered for appointments , We call on the party APC at the national to impose maximum sanction on the recalcitrant Ex Governor of Plateau state Joshua Dariye , Senator, Hezikah Dimka , Pauline Tallen ,Hon Komsol and others who worked against the APC in our state .

” Party politics has rules and regulations. Senator Dimka ,the former Minister of women affairs Dame Pauline Tallen and their cohorts had destabilized the APC for a while on the state leading to the party's loss at the Governorship and the Presidential election in 2023 ,they worked against our party at the recently conducted Presidential election and did so in the Governorship polls .”

The national leadership of the APC, led by Senator Adamu Abdullahi must as a matter of urgency expel this stakeholders who do not mean well for the party in the state
