The Group Managing Director (GMD) of Nigerian Army Properties Limited (NAPL), Brig Gen Isah Doma (rtd) and the Human Resources Manager (HRM) of NAPL, Mr Abdulmajid Mustapha, popularly known as ‘Mr Issues’ has been dragged to court.
The case was instituted by a former staff of the company, Mr. Abdullahi Mohammed. The petitioner accused the GMD and HRM of false allegations and defamation of character.
The GMD NAPL had written a petition to the Inspector General of Police with reference NAPL/G1/300/21/1 dated 23rd November 2021, with the subject:
“Report of Alleged Criminal Misappropriation and Continuous Illegal Dealings with Classified Information belonging to Nigerian Army Properties Limited by Abdullahi Mohammed.” The petition had 11 allegations against the suspect.
After a thorough investigation by the FCT State Criminal Investigation Department of the Nigerian Police, a report signed by the O/C monitoring unit of the CID FCT Police Command read:
“It is clear that a case of criminal misappropriation has not been proven against the suspect for lack of substantive evidence.”
The O/C also requested the case be referred to the legal section for advice.
In another document signed by the legal prosecution section of the CID, FCT Police Command, it was mentioned that the petition does not amount to criminality.
The legal team also stated that there is no evidence in support or shown to sustain the alleged offence of criminal misappropriation under sections 308 and 312 of the Penal Code Law.
One of the allegations made by the GMD NAPL against the suspect was the issue of a stolen computer system (laptop), which according to him, the suspect refused to hand over to the company after his resignation.
During the investigation, it was gathered that Abdullahi handed the laptop to the IT officer of NAPL, and instructed her to present it to the GMD and HRM before taking it to the store.
In a statement written to the police by the IT officer, she confirmed that Abdullahi handed over the laptop to her, and she presented it to the GMD and HRM before taking it to the store.
The legal team then established that the issue of the stolen laptop was a false allegation.
All other indictment made by NAPL against the suspect was also proven false because the suspect presented documented evidence that vindicated him from all allegations.
In a suit with reference number NICN/ABJ/68/2023, Mohammed filed a case in the National Industrial Court against NAPL, Brig-Gen Doma (rtd) and Abdulmajid Mustapha aka Mr Issues.
The case has since been scheduled for a hearing on 3rd July 2023.
When contacted, Abdullahi said its unfortunate that NAPL is gradually losing its credibility because it is now used as a tool by some few individuals for personal vendetta.

A senior journalist, Dr Amaechi Anakwue has sued the Enugu State Government and others over the illegal trespass and takeover of his land in the state.
Anakwue, who is a media personality with AIT and Daar Communications Ltd, is demanding the sum of N200 million in damages for the trespass.
Anakwue wants an Enugu State High Courtt to declare that he is the bonafide owner of the parcel of land known as Plot 137 Independence Layout Phase II, Enugu.
The suit, which was brought by his counsel, Ikeazor Ajovi Akariwe (SAN), is also seeking a perpetual injunction restraining Offiah Lordrick M., Enugu State Government, the Attorney General of Enugu State, and Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development from re-allocating the land to another person.
In his statement of claim, Anakwue stated that the land was first acquired by Bernard Onuigwe Orji in 2006 and granted Certificate of Occupancy registered as Number 89 at Page 89 in Volume 1574, and he later sold it to Pascal Ene and issued him a Deed of Assignment and Irrevocable Power of Attorney.
Anakwue averred that he purchased the said land from Ene in 2014 via an Irrevocable Power of Attorney duly registered with the Lands and Deeds Registry, Enugu as No 74 at Page 74 Volume 1674.
He explained that in furtherance of his ownership of the land, he paid for the necessary ground rents, and the community development fee of Ugwuaji and began to design the building plan.
He stated that he was advised to make the building plan in the name of the original buyer as that was still reflecting in the plan, and while trying to make the amendment, his brother, Nkemdilim Anakwue, visited the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) to find out the progress of the registration and discovered that the file was missing.
He stated that in 2021 one of the natives in the community informed the brother that Lordrick had started some work on the land, including a fence and gate house, and asked whether he was the one behind it.
He said all his efforts to locate the file through letters to the state government were rebuffed as the said Lordrick has allegedly “continued unrestrained acts of trespass by constructing various structures on the land and altering the structure of the land.”
Anakwue bemoaned the land grab in the state despite the calls for more investments in the South East and the ‘Think Home’ mantra which attracted people like him.
Responding, the Enugu State Commissioner for Lands, Chidi Aroh said there have been no single C of O revocation under his watch, maintaining that Amaechi should identify the year and the circumstances in which the land was revoked.
The Niger Delta Integrity Group (NDIG) has rubbished claims that Elders, Traditional Rulers and other “ominous” groups have called for the sack of the Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Major General Barry Ndiomu (rtd).
A statement issued on Friday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by Dr. Boma Horsfall, Convener of the NDIG, affirmed strongly that the General who has enormous respect for traditional institutions enjoys a cordial relationship with the monarchs and elders in the Niger Delta region.
He said this has been demonstrated in Ndiomu’s series of meetings with the traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders across the region, during which he has engaged them on innovate policies to bring the teeming youths out of the dark and create sustainable livelihoods for them.
“The NDIG after conducting due diligence and investigation, discovered that these resentful elements who issued a misleading statement titled: ‘Amnesty Fraud: Stakeholders write Tinubu, halt N5.6b fraudulent payment hanging on GIFMIS platform, seek immediate hand-over to the most senior director’, are not ex-agitators and are fictitious designations that are not captured in the PAP database.
“For the records, their claims are false and non-existent. It is disappointing that they have now descended to an all-time low level of lunacy. Who are the purported Elders and Traditional Rulers that endorsed the statement? It is public knowledge that all critical stakeholders of the Niger Delta region, including Elders and Traditional Rulers, are in full support of Ndiomu’s undertakings at the PAP. These are people he has constantly and continuously engaged with,” he said.
While affirming that General Ndiomu is widely loved and accepted across the region, the NDIG urged the Interim Administrator “not to be deterred by the whims and caprices of a few dishonest elements who are displaying the shortsighted physiognomies of some of our people”.
“Thus, the general public is advised to disregard such sponsored statements from these unprincipled individuals who have in the past come forth with fraudulent and bogus contract claims that PAP has refused to attend to. They have in the past been fished out as those having multiple accounts linked to one BVN, fraudulently collecting monthly stipends for many years.
“The NDIG commends General Ndiomu on the recently launched Cooperative Scheme, and considers it one of the best ways to create windows of opportunities for youths in the region,” the statement added.
The recent abrupt and poorly executed increase in fuel prices in Nigeria has left many citizens devastated. The government has justified this hike by linking it to the removal of fuel subsidies. While I have previously supported the idea of removing subsidies, I find it hard to believe that the recent price increase is genuinely related to subsidy removal, as some have claimed.
President Buhari’s administration employed a similar tactic during his tenure, increasing fuel prices in 2016 under the pretext of subsidy removal. However, it was later revealed that the government had actually spent over N11 trillion on fuel subsidies during those eight years. This history raises concerns about the recent development and its resemblance to previous fuel price increases.
True subsidy removal would entail full deregulation of the downstream sector, according to widely accepted definitions. Yet, the recent price hike does not align with the principles of market forces. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), as the sole importer of fuel, sets the pricing template that affects all filling stations nationwide. This centralized control contradicts the notion of market-driven fuel prices.
Therefore, it is crucial for the new administration to provide clarity on the subsidy issue. Nigerian citizens should not be subjected to the pains caused by the recent price hike, only to later discover that subsidies are still being paid, as was the case under the previous administration. If the current government is genuinely committed to subsidy removal, it must take the necessary steps to open up the sector, promote competition, and allow market forces to determine fuel prices, rather than relying on a single importer like the NNPC.
Additionally, the government must outline its plans for investing the funds that will be saved from the subsidy regime. This should include implementing measures to mitigate the impact on the people, similar to what the Goodluck Jonathan administration did in 2012 when subsidy removal was considered. Furthermore, it is essential for the government to be transparent about where the funds that were supposed to go into fuel subsidies will be allocated. It would be unacceptable for Nigerian citizens to endure the hardships of subsidy removal only to have the saved funds end up in private pockets.
Over the years, subsidies have consumed more than N20 trillion, a staggering amount that could have been used to improve healthcare, education, infrastructure, and other critical areas. While it is clear that subsidies have outlived their usefulness, they should not be used as a tool to deceive Nigerian citizens, as has happened in the past.
In conclusion, the government needs to act transparently and responsibly regarding fuel subsidies. The removal of subsidies should be accompanied by true deregulation, promoting market forces and competition. The saved funds must be invested wisely and not fall into the wrong hands. Nigerian citizens deserve a fair and accountable approach that brings tangible benefits to their lives, rather than continuing the mistakes of the past.

Presidential Amnesty Office Sets Aside N1.5bn Cooperative Fund To Drive Entrepreneurship For Ex-Agitators
The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), has launched a N1.5billion Cooperative Fund – the Presidential Amnesty Programme (Beneficiaries) Cooperative Society Limited (PAPCOSOL) to give strategic empowerment directly to ex-agitators of the Niger Delta.
While officially launching the scheme at the Amnesty Office in Abuja on Wednesday, Interim Administrator of the PAP, Major Gen. Barry Ndiomu (rtd), said the initiative is a “novel alternative economic development scheme" designed to create a more viable means of sustainable livelihood for ex-agitators with socio-economic development of their communities and making them self reliant.
Ndiomu recalled that over the years, various reintegration empowerment programmes have delivered less fulfilling results, but expressed confidence that the Cooperative initiative “is considered the most practicable approach to ensuring the sustainable reintegration of ex-agitators”.
The Interim Administrator further reiterated that the scheme which will be serviced monthly with N500million, was birthed out of the need to encourage the ex-agitators who are fast ageing on, to explore more sustainable means of livelihood, rather than depending on the monthly N65,000 monthly stipend from the Federal Government.
He said the Cooperative which already has offices in Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states, would be closely supervised by the PAP Office and would be run by an Advisory Board led by HRM Justice. Francis Tabai, a retired Supreme Court Justice, and other seasoned professionals and ex-agitators.
Ndiomu noted that the beneficiaries would be provided with technical support on their business ideas, and would also get access to grants, adding that the core areas of the scheme would focus on agricultural value chain, services and manufacturing.
He regretted that the monthly N65,000 stipends has introduced the culture of dependency and indolence.
In his brief remarks, Justice. Tabai commended the Interim Administrator for championing the drive to reposition the Presidential Amnesty Programme and transform the lives of Niger Deltans, promising that he would pour in his wealth of experience to ensure that the Board delivers on its mandate.
Similarly, Hon. Felix Bonny Ayah, Member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency I, who is also a beneficiary of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, lauded Ndiomu for thinking out of the box on the initiative, stating that they as leaders will embrace this new thinking and promised to give him maximum support all the way through the scheme.
Other members of the Board are Major General Emmanuel Salubi (Rtd), Comrade Joseph Evah, HRH Henry Binidodogha Ekes - Egbema 1 and some ex-agitaors.Presidential Amnesty Office Sets Aside N1.5bn Cooperative Fund To Drive Entrepreneurship For Ex-Agitators
OGUN STATE 5-ASIDE STREET SOCCER FINALE – ONE MILLION NAIRA PRIZE 3 BEST STREET TEAMS.
There is no doubt that Nigeria is a sports-loving country and Ogun State noted for recording many firsts in sports and youth development initiatives, is blessed with a sports-loving Governor, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun – MFR to encourage plethora of talents residing in every corner of the state and in the country at large.
Just this month, on Saturday May 6, 2023, the Federal Government of Nigeria and Ogun State Government signed an MOU on the Hosting Right for the National Sports Festival 2024, which is a grid point to many other sports development activities within the state. One of such sporting initiatives to encourage the grassroots football development across the state is the Ogun State Street Soccer 5-Aside tournament tagged ISEYA WINNING CUP 2023 by Ihouse Initiative Limited in collaboration with the state ministry of youth and sports in the development of youth talents in football using the private public partnership (PPP)
The Street Soccer Exhibition is in line with the goal of the Ogun State Government to reduce social vices, empower the youths in talent discovery, and promote sports in all the local governments areas of the state.
The competition had a significant street 1128 teams registered across the 20 local government areas and started with a kick-off match on Saturday January 14, 2023 on an artificial pitch at the Main Bowl of M.K.O Abiola Stadium Kuto Abeokuta. Having gone round the 20 local government areas of the state with a winner emerging in each local government area, the tournament enters the final stage where the state champion will emerge.
In an interview with one of the team Coordinators, Patriots FC, Mr Ayotunde Somide expressed satisfaction with the level of organization of the competition.
Our attention has been drawn to series of media publications co-signed by one over bearing Dr. Tams Odogwu, P.hD, who claims to be a “critical stakeholder” of Phase 3 of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).
The Niger Delta Integrity Group (NDIG) regrets that issues raised in the said publications are ludicrous and gibberish. The authors are only on a sponsored voyage to tarnish the image of the PAP Interim Administrator, Major General Barry Ndiomu (retd).
On several occasions, the leadership of the PAP has explained satisfactorily while it embarked on the cleansing of the payroll data for ex-agitators, which is part of the massive reforms undertaken to sanitize the system and make it work for all genuine delegates and beneficiaries of the scheme.
We therefore wonder why the likes of Odogwu will continue in their campaign of calumny and slander. From their actions it has become obvious their level of involvement in the alleged organized crime of multiple accounts scam.
But what beats our imagination is how ungrateful Odogwu in particular is. By every reason, Tams Odogwu is meant to have exited the PAP having benefitted immensley from it in achieving his dream and desire of obtaining a Doctorate Degree with other trainings and certifications.
Odogwu, should be grateful to the PAP for sponsoring him from start to finish in his doctoral academic pursuit which was fully realized late last year at the Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.
Still insisting on 65,000 monthly stipend rather than putting his doctorate degree to good use and make a sustainable livelihood easily define his short-sighted character and personality.
We call on the leadership of the PAP to take urgent action against Odogwu by ensuring that he is not only completely delisted from its payroll but handed over to security agencies for acts of civil disturbance and disobidence. Enough is enough!

The 2023 general elections has come and gone, leaving in its wake – ethnic profiling, tribal bigotry, sectionalism, religiousfanaticism and a more divided Nigeria than we have witnessed since the civil war. The aforementioned direct consequences of the failings of the recently conducted elections have long existed with us as a people, however many Nigerians had hoped that somehow, the 2023 elections would heal a society that is fragmented along many lines – sadly such hopes were dashed and old wounds reopened.
The Mahmood Yakubu led Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cannot be exonerated in any way from the current mood of the nation. The commission reneged on it’spromise of making the elections technology driven and uploading of results directly to its viewer portal (IREV) through the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). This failure by INEC has become the foundation for the verbal altercations& growing mistrust amongst people that have lived together for years. The level of toxicity the 2023 elections has generated far supercedes any we have witnessed as a nation. People are now cautious about speaking their truths and sharing their opinions on national issues without being seen as ethnically, religiously and politically contentious.
At the center of this accusation of toxicity albeit untrue, are the supporters of His Excellency Mr Peter Obi known as the Obidients who have been alleged to venomously clamp down on any opinion that does not conform with their ideology of a better Nigeria. Factually, are the Obidients toxic? Are they being misunderstood or plainly being misrepresented? Are people just trying to demarket & deligitimize the Obidient movement? Some commentators have opined that Obidients are a representation of frustrated Nigerians who are tired of thecountry’s systematic failure and the old order while yet another group see them as a new generation of disrespectful individuals that are lacking in civility and good manners.
The “Obidients” cannot be said to be alone in this new wave of toxicity threatening to consume us all. The ruling APC and members of the “President-Elect’s” media team in particular are as guilty (if not more) of this toxic attitude that Obidients, who in most cases, are regarded as the sponsors of such verbalattacks – since their voices are loudest in the room, are accused of.
Whichever camp is orchestrating these attacks, one thing is certain; if this trend of vicious verbal attacks are not quickly addressed by leaders of the various political parties and their supporters called to order, the judgement of the electoral petition tribunal (whichever camp it favours), will only add to the already tense situation in the country. Nigeria appears to be few utterances and actions away from witnessing the level ofelectoral violence it did in 2011 when over a thousand (1,000) people lost their lives in the North. Only that this time, the violence will not be limited to Northern Nigeria alone.
It has become obvious that supporters of political parties have enormous power in their hands, however power without control and constraint leads to destruction.
Genius is found in the management of insanity – Dele Farotimi
His Excellency Peter Obi believes he won the 2023 presidential election and has committed himself to following peaceful and lawful means under the constitution in reclaiming the mandate. The best thing Obidients can do now is to channel their energy into holding government accountable and setting goals for the incoming administration instead of setting the country ablaze with ethnocentrism and bigotry that will take us nowhere. Accountability starts with each and everyone of us, irrespective of the political party we belong to or Presidential candidate we support. Let’s all follow the path of civility and peace in our engagements, online and offline
I am Obidiently Amaka Ogunjobi and I write from Lagos, Nigeria
A renowned data analyst and founder of Leadership-by-Data, Babajide Ogunsanwo, says Nigeria's positive security score from the global institute for economics and peace / vision of humanity is due to several factors.
The primary reason for Nigeria receiving its best security score in a dozen years is due to the impact of an effective collaboration between the current service chiefs in reducing attacks from Boko Haram in Nigeria's North East region ; especially in Borno State.
The current service chiefs were appointed in 2021 and have used a non-text book approach to fight the terrorists.
Though Nigeria is at its safest in more than 10 years ; if the country loses focus, the good news can quickly turn sour.
Kidnapping for ransom may skyrocket if socio-political tensions get worse.
While speaking on Channels TV recently, Ogunsanwo disclosed that the 2023 Global Terrorism Index released by Vision of humanity (the leading institute that tracks terrorism incidents and deaths due to terrorism) shows a comprehensive assessment of global terrorism attacks in Nigeria and other countries in the world.
According to the report, there were 120 terrorism cases (incidents) in Nigeria in 2022 compared to 214 cases recorded in 2021. It has been more than twelve years since Nigeria last recorded such progress.
Peace Microfinance Bank Ltd. further demonstrates its commitment to empowering women and supporting education in Nigeria.
On March 20, 2023, the bank’s team, led by Managing Director Judith Chinedu Onyishi, conducted a lecture on "The Power of Savings and Investment" for female teachers under the Training, Advocacy, Research, and Mentorship (TARM) project.
The TARM project, supported by Peace Microfinance Bank, the MacArthur Foundation, UNFPA Nigeria, and Step Up Nigeria, and powered by the Illmi Children’s Fund, aims to empower female teachers to guide and motivate adolescent girls to pursue their education.
The project addresses obstacles to girls’ education, such as a lack of parental support, gender-based violence, and a lack of counselling. In addition, the initiative hopes to improve secondary school outcomes for girls in transition, retention, and completion of their studies. Illmi Children’s Fund is a non-profit organisation that aims to bridge the gap between access to funding and basic education in Nigeria.
The foundation creates educational opportunities for underprivileged children through scholarship programmes, learning hubs, advocacy, livelihood support, and psychosocial initiatives.
The foundation has reached over 12,000 children across 19 Nigerian states and has over 2,000 volunteers. Asides from the Managing Director, the Peace Microfinance Bank team present at the programme included Chairman Chief Jideofor Okoye, Vice Chairman Dr. Emilia Onyishi, Director Patrick Irebo, and Head of Financial Control Uchechukwu Nwoko.
The lecture was part of the bank's initiatives to educate different fields on financial intelligence.
By being a part of this initiative, Peace Microfinance Bank has again proven itself an advocate for financial literacy, women's empowerment, and education in Nigeria.
Incorporated on May 28, 2008, as a limited liability company and licenced to operate by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on September 9, 2008, Abuja-headquartered Peace Microfinance Bank is one of the leading microfinance banks in Nigeria.
The bank services both corporate and individual clients and has taken phenomenal strides since the last decade to improve the quality of living of Nigerians and fund corporate organisations’ growth.
When Peter Obi resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prior to its presidential primary and subsequently joining the Labour Party (LP), very few persons considered his candidacy as one that stood any chance of winning.
The Labour Party was formed in 2002 as the Party for Social Democracy (PSD), following its name change a year after, the party went ahead to produce Dr Olusegun Mimiko as the first governor elected on its platform in 2009. In 2007, the Labour Party entered into an alliance with the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to support former Labour leader, Adams Oshiomole’s governorship bid in Edo state. Following the defection of Dr Mimiko to the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), the fortunes of LP dwindled as the party failed to create any impact at subsequent polls. With the emergence of His Excellency Mr Peter Obi as its Presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, LP was again brought to the spotlight. Mr Obi, a two-term Governor of Anambra State & former Vice Presidential candidate in the 2019 Presidential election under the PDP, he became the toast of youths who have been yearning for a paradigm shift in the Nigerian political space and a symbol of their struggle.
The youths formed the major support base of the Obi/Datticampaign and are popularly referred to as OBIDIENTS. The Obidients are described as young Nigerians from all walks of life (without any form of mobilization) that yearn for leadership change from the status quo; they have been the live wire of the Peter Obi presidential campaign both online and offline, giving it a voice in its state to state nationwide campaign. They have been tenacious, resilent and focused on its message – the POssibility of a new Nigeria.
Although His Excellency Peter Obi entered the Presidential race based on his merit of character, competence, passion for excellence and capacity, the Obidients played a vital role in his campaign and indeed the presidential election. The massive turn out of youths at campaign rallies & at student town hall meetings, street, market and car rallies all contributed to the party winning in twelve (12) states, including Nigeria’s federal capital territory, Abuja during the February 25th 2023presidential election and garnering over six million votes in the presidential election despite widespread voter disenfranchisement, intimidation, tribal attacks & ballot snatching aided by security agencies and their personnel.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may have announced another candidate as the winner of the presidential election, however it is generally believed that the results did not reflect the will of the Nigerian people. Five weeks after the presidential elections, tensions have continued to mount as supporters of the various candidates engage in verbal attackson social and legacy media.
Following the declaration of a winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and subsequent presentation of a certificate of return, the election result can only be upturned by the election tribunal or the supreme court – no matter how disgruntled any one is. By law, the declared winner of the election will be sworn in as President on May 29, 2023. If the election tribunal delivers its judgement and it is challenged, the Supreme Court is not time bound in delivering its own judgement. In effect, the Supreme Court can take as much as six months or even a year to conclude hearing and deliver its judgement. Realistically, the declared winner of the election is going to be sworn in and will go ahead to carry out his constitutional duties as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In view of the foregoing, it is imperative for Obidients to heed the words of their principal, His Excellency Peter Obi that “his ambition is to lead a united and indivisible Nigeria, not a fragmented one”. His Excellency Peter Obi has repeatedly said that he has faith in the Judiciary and has been a great beneficiary of the judicial process in Nigeria – having been returned by the court to his duly elected position as Governor of Anambra state thrice.
It is time for Obidients to sheath their swords, toe the path of maturity and allow the court process play out. It is time to tone down the online rhetorics, concentrate on the court process and holding the incoming government accountable in delivering on its campaign promises to the Nigerian people. It is time to set in motion sector by sector agenda and standards for the incoming administration in line with its manifesto and current realities of the Nigerian state. It is time to play a more coordinated role of being a viable opposition; the campaigns and elections are over, it is time for governance – while we await the decision of the Judiciary.

Pharm Abdulkareem Mohammad Jamiu is Governor Yahaya Bello’s Greatest Legacy in Kogi State
I have never been one to talk about politics. The intrigues of it; the power play and the entire chaos of it is something that acutely reminds me of a game of Russian Roulette.
when asked about my views on politics my response was I would never stake my neck out for any male candidate in power except he was my father, my brother, husband or my son. These men l could at least vouch for, this men i’d stake my life for.
My views on men in positions of power for many years was that they were dictatorial, driven by self aggrandizement and at their worst Machiavellian.
Until I met Pharm Abdulkareem Mohammad Jamiu
I had the good fortune of meeting Chief Asuku sometime in 2016 when he was the serving Director of Protocol to the Governor and what struck me about his personality was his eagerness to learn, he was so committed to being the best at his job and becoming an embodiment of the quest for excellence that the new direction administration represented.
It was no surprise when I heard that that he had gone to some finishing school for Protocol Officers to build on his capacity to deliver on his assigned role as Director of Protocol. I remember commending his work ethic to a work colleague, I also remember the spiteful response that this was “initial gragra” a farce that would end in no time.
Many years later Pharm Asuku has continued to prove naysayers wrong and dispel the myth that political officers are only concerned about filling their stomachs. Almost one decade later Chief Asuku’s zeal, passion, commitment and stellar results that have come from the Office of the Chief of Staff while he served in that role is testament to this.
When we talk about legacies, what comes to mind are projects made of brick and mortar. Legacies manifested in infrastructure cut across sectors in Education, Works and Housing, Agriculture, Health Care, Security, Environment, Social Welfare to mention but a few. Governor Yahaya Bello has created indelible marks in this sectors and created very big shoes that whoever becomes his successor must consolidate for the good of our beloved Kogi State.
Legacies however go beyond brick and mortar projects, the Business Strategist Peter Strople says that Legacy is not leaving something for people. It’s leaving something in people.
I like to think that the greatest legacy of Governor Yahaya Bello will not be the many legacy projects equitably spread across the three senatorial districts of Kogi State. The greatest legacies of Governor Yahaya Bello when he leaves office will be choosing a worthy successor to consolidate on his gains.
There is a lot riding on the choice of the man or woman who becomes the next Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Whichever candidate is selected as Gubernatorial candidate will be man or woman with the fear but most importantly an utmost sense of loyalty to his principal and to the party, loyalty that is not shrouded in gimmicks. Most importantly he or she must be a candidate with tremendous social capital, one who enjoys good will with a geographical spread across the three senatorial district because a good product sells itself.
I could think of no other person that fits this description than Pharm. Abdulkareem Mohammad Jamiu.
Taking a cursory look at the bigger picture, you will agree that the good people of Kogi State are united by the very things that divide us as a people; our religion and our different ethnicities. Now more than ever, we need a leader that see’s humanity before religion and collective progress before ethnicity.
Pharm Asuku has walked side by side with his Excellency Governor Yahaya Bello throughout the course of his administration, like a willing pupil eager to learn from a revered maestro. This pupil has gone through the training and has graduated in flying colors. His stellar achievements while he was the Chief of Staff, despite the fact that he was the youngest person to hold this position in the country is proof if you ever needed one.
In spite of this wins, Pharm Asuku has stayed authentic and true to his values of humility, diligence and the absolute fear of God.
I do not know a lot about many things but I do know that if I was ever in a position where i’d have to pick a successor, authenticity would be the value that I would be on the lookout for. Authenticity counts so much in a political climate like ours where loyalties sway at the drop of a hat.
And we can all agree that Pharm Abdulkareem Mohammad Jamiu is authenticity personified.
Those of you who refuse to pick work calls on Saturday I have a question and I’ll appreciate honest answers - would you be so picky about work if it was your own business?
Following a poll conducted by a young PDP Chieftain in Edo state, Ose Anenih asking his folowers to suggest a New National Chairman for the PDP, A lot of other news blogs have been suggesting that Dr Bukola Saraki has joined the race for PDP Chairmanship position. Ose Anenih’s poll had 2,500 votes with the majority 58% voting for DR Saraki to replace the embattled PDP Chairman Sen. Iyiorcha Ayu.
Dr Saraki was seen as a unifying diligent politician that performed a good job as the head of the PDP reconciliation comitee in the past as he was able to manage big egos and bring people to the table to work together and these qualities made a lot of the respondents vote for him according to the comments on the poll but a credible source has confirmed to us that Dr Saraki is currently not interested in any party position as he wishes that the Party can solve the internal problems as soon as possible in other to provide credible opposition for Nigerians while pushing its election petition case.
Mr. Ose Anenih has also confirmed in a subsequent tweet that none of the people he mentioned, Dr Saraki, Sen. David Mark, Samuel Ortom and Babangida ALiyu has signified any interest in the position as he was only trying to get the pulse of the people.
