Celebrities › Omotola & Van Vicker Will Be Starring In A New International Film Called Amina by anonymous6(op): 11:10pm On Aug 17, 2011
"The actress is quietly racking up roles in quality movies that might put her in contention in the Best Actress category in the 2012 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

Star actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde barely landed Lagos from Accra where she had been shooting Leila Djansi's much awaited film "Ties that Bind", when she had to jet off again for another major shoot in London. This time, she is starring in a feature film titled AMINA alongside British Actors Wil Johnson and Vincent Reagan

There is so much secrecy surrounding the project that all we managed to get were 2 pictures from production manager Afshan Hassan. We also gather that the film is being directed by a Uk based director Christian Ashaiku. The film is an emotional drama about Amina who is left disillusioned that all men have to offer her is sorrow, pain and humiliation after an unplanned pregnancy at 16. Audiences will be taken on a journey to see what it will take for Amina to date again.

When questioned about the production, all Omotola could say was "I feel appreciated and challenged". The actress is quietly racking up meaty roles in quality movies that might put her in contention in the Best Actress category in the 2012 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA). Till the producers are ready to let the press in , all we can report is that Omotola is poised to achieve meaningful things this year and 2012."
http://nigeriafilms.com/news/11925/17/omotola-in-london-shooting-feature-film-amina.html

"Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has recently wrapped up filming a new film titled AMINA in London. Omotola co-stars with Ghanaian heartthrob, Van Vickers and British actors Wil Johnson and Vincent Reagan.
Directed by a UK based director Christian Ashaiku, the story revolves around the central character, Amina, played by Omotola who has suffered severe emotional turmoil, and has been disappointed by men after falling pregnant at the age of 16. With the care of a psychiatrist, the audience pieces together Amina’s tragic past, and joins her on her journey to rehabilitation to overcome her trauma to live a meaningful life. Of the role, Omotola said: "I feel appreciated and challenged".
It appears that Nigerian actresses are intent on pushing boundaries in terms of scripts and locations. That can only be a good thing for Nollywood which is now the second largest movie industry in the world. It is clear that it is not just size that matters but certainly quality and the ladies in Nollywood are leading the way."

Celebrities › Dream House & Rita Dominic Are Collaborating To Do A Film In Kenya? by anonymous6(op): 10:43pm On Aug 17, 2011
"Nairobi based Dream House Productions has engaged the services of Nollywood actress Rita Dominic to star in its debut film production. The working title of the film is "Shattered”.

Produced by Carol Nguta and directed by Greg Lukalia, the film which is already in pre-production is scheduled to begin principal photography on August 1, 2011.

Dream House Production is a diversified entertainment company known for producing elaborate musicals, live orchestra, and stage plays in Kenya. The company is now embarking on film production and is maintaining their vision to develop and showcase the enormous untapped and unfulfilled talent in the Kenya creative industry.

Rita Dominic will head to Kenya in a few days to begin rehearsing with major Kenya actors. She plays the role of a woman who tries to overcome the long term effects of years of neglect and child abuse in a middleclass home.

“We have been following the Nigerian movie industry for some time and Rita stands out as a very outstanding gifted individual who takes her craft seriously and passionately, fully embracing the roles she plays” stated Carol Nguta, Founder of Dream House Productions. “This is in line with our vision at Dream House and we are working hard to make this project successful”.

This will be Rita’s first time filming in Kenya. She was in Kenya in April to attend the 2011 AMAA nominations party. Rita is excited about signing on to this project in Kenya and states “I love Kenya so this is an opportunity to go back to my home away from home. This is the first of many projects and I could not have chosen a better company. Carol is passionate about the arts. She is a perfectionist so I have no fears at all about the quality of the production”.

Celebrities › First Nollywood Actress Attending Grammy 2011 Awards Shows Up With Ugly Dress? by anonymous6(op): 10:38pm On Aug 17, 2011
"Omotola Jalade was the first Nollywood actress to walk The Grammy 2011 Red Carpet and it was all good news till pictures started coming in. The red carpet appearance was made possible by her international mangement – Bishop Entertainment consult and Bungalo/Universal Records. How we wish pictures didn’t come!!

BTW, #DeadCurious: where are the red carpet pictures with Tiwa Savage in them?

Also, what could one of Omotola’s ‘international’ manager’s palm be doing so close to her bum (as seen in the picture below) – he could have almost grabbed her bum. Playa, your arm should be on her lower back, make sure captain – that’s her husband for those of you who don’t know – catch you."

Celebrities › Re: Who Is More Pretty, Jackie Appiah Or Nigerian Actress Genevieve Nnaji? by anonymous6(f): 4:17pm On Aug 17, 2011
@ lovistic
Point of correction non of it was a fabricate lie, plus I never said Oprah watches African movies(and Oprah doesn't really like Nigerians any way so I am not surprised: http://www.punchontheweb.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art200707260133325 nor do I give a DAMN), and she never met Genevieve because I watched that Oprah show episode when she mentioned about about Genevieve but she has seen her photos and researched about her. Also Genevieve's appearance on CNN had to do with her looks and acting, she has been interviewed three time on CNN(and more coming up) & it was mentioned, So you should do research before writing. No matter how you spin this though, this thread was a Ghana vs. Nigeria thread and the OP set the motion for that because I have seen this trend alot and anytime I see a Ghanian vs Nigerian comparison thread  the Nigerians get blasted, so I'm not buying your argument about opinions, especially after some of the comments I have read so far in this thread. Next time do your research before responding to me.

lastly, Whether Ghana had a chance or not is irrelevant because it's Nollywood who made Nadia and Jackie who they are today way before the Ghanian movie industry started, so Jackie had a chance in Nollywood, she has been voted as Nollywoods favorite Ghanian actress and she and Nadia are the only Top Nollywood actresses in Nollywood who are Ghanian. She is even more on top or known then some Nollywood actresses who are Nigerian, so she had enough exposure to be voted as the most beautiful nollywood actress and beat genevieve and she didn't, plus even if Ghana industry had the opportunity to vote her the most top in Ghana, it's highly unlikely she would have appeared on CNN because the Ghollywood industry is not recognized out of Africa, only Nollywood(it's the only african industry the western world knows and will feature, their have been more then 5 documentaries about this industry, many news specials on Nollywood not Ghollywood, and its the 2nd to 3rd largest movie industry in the world, and they have beaten Hollywood as the top and number one movie industry in Sub-Saharan Africa, so your argument is whack because if Nollywood was like Ghollywood is, nobody would care what Nollywood considers who is the most beautiful in their industry), Even The top actress in the Yoruba Nollywood movie industry & Hausa Nollywood movie industry never had that chance to appear on CNN because they are not recognized only the English Nollywood industry is really even being known, and etc

Nollywood made Van Vicker, Nadia Buari, Jackie Appiah:

Celebrities › Re: Nollywood Is So Embarrassing (omg!) by anonymous6(f): 4:12am On Aug 17, 2011
If Nollywood wants to be taken seriously, this picture swap nonsense and the issue of quality needs to be addressed in that industry. I have been seeing signs that the quality issue is being fixed but this picture swap nonsense, to tell you the truth I don't see that trend alot but when it does happen it's just a disgrace as far as I am concerned and unnecessary.

yeah their will be 20 KFC's opening in Nigeria
http://www.howwemadeitinafrica.com/kfc-to-open-20-restaurants-in-nigeria-during-2011/6232/

but I don't think they will beat or make a big impact in Nigeria like local and traditional Nigerian food restaurants though; many foreign franchises have tried and failed to make it big in Nigeria because Nigerians prefer traditional over westernized food, now that doesn't mean they won't eat westernized foods but I just don't see KFC making a big impact, I mean McDonald's, and many fast food joints from England tried in Nigerian and have failed

@MRBrownJAY

Good Question, But I don't know how much this big budget movie is actually but when IJE starring Genevieve and Omotola came out last year that movie was dubbed the most expensive Nollywood movie and their were rumors from what I have read from blogs and etc, it was 1-3 million dollars to make IJE, so maybe this movie is around that budget as well, but don't know; but you are right location is irrelevant to how much money you pay a movie but the headline did make a big deal about the movie being made in Australia.

"Veteran actor Ejike Asiegbu and sultry actress Monalisa Chinda held audience spellbound at Australia’s biggest cinemas,Hoyts,in Sydney on Saturday,May 14,2011 venue of the premiere of “GOSSIP NATION” the movie they starred in.

A spokesperson for the producers say the premiere was attended by the opposition of the state of New South Wales Parliament, John Robertson, the Nigerian Ambassador J.C Ezema and several Afro-Australian actors, musicians and a host of main stream Australian entertainment and media personalities.

The premiere was described as the most ‘heterogeneous event in recent Australian history’ as different races from Chinese, Asians, to Africans, Whites to Aboriginal Australians to Indians and Pacific Islanders were all represented at the event.

‘They have written their names into the Australian history as the first Nollywood actors to film in Australia’, director of the movie Daniel Okoduwa talked about Asiegbu and Monalisa’s roles.
