@ Nayah Ghollywood movies do a great job with quality but their movies are over westernized & X-rated movies Nollywood movies do a great job with storyline, authenticity(less westernized), & we have movies in other languages like Hausa and Yoruba but are quality is not the best(but it is slowly improving, ever hear of IJE, FIGUARINE, TANGLE WITH ME, and etc) @ Maria Puzo I don't agree I think they are equal to a extent but Nigerian actresses are a little better because some Nigerian actresses such as Genevieve Nnaji, Fathia Balogun, Funke Akindele, Omotola Jalade Ekeinede beat all the Ghanian actresses I have been seeing. Authenticity is very important in acting as far as I am concerned and sometimes I have seen many Ghanian actors and actresses act westernized in the shakesperean English they speak instead of Ghanian English. When I watch a movie i want to know I'm seeing africa and want to go home to africa(Nigeria specifically) not a movie of Ghollywood actors/actresses acting like the western world I live in, why even bother watching them act western when I can get a western movie in Hollywood? That why I(including the fact that I am Yoruba) watch alot of Yoruba movies alot |
Genevieve Nnaji http://www.youtube.com/user/officialgenevieve?blend=7&ob=5 Rita Dominic http://www.youtube.com/user/ritadominic |

@don Campos Good idea, I might start a thread about who is the most talented now between genny and rita ![]() @ cruiser good list but I don't know why you left out number 3 @ larry nice list, I also like how you separated and mentioned the top 5 from the Yoruba and English industry but why don't like Omotola? she is one of my favorite actresses |
I never knew Yvonne Nelson and Mercy Johnson were friends or close |
They are all pretty but I think Lillian bach |
"World Bank has declared its intention to spend $US30 million on the film and music industry of Nigeria. This is a 100 per cent equity support to Nollywood and musicians in the country. Chioma Nwagboso, Finance & Private Sector Development Unit, World Bank, made this disclosure at the conference organized by the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) in partnership with Georgia Institute of Technology and the Berman Centre for Internet and Society at Harvard University. Nwagboso speaking at the event which attracted the heavyweights in the film industry and other stakeholders said the world apex bank is ready to support Nollywood the little way it can. According to her, “The World Bank has some money available for movie and music industry. We want to support four areas, access to finance, distribution and marketing channels, capacity building and helping to solve piracy.” She disclosed that when the World Bank visited some local banks last year to know why they were not supporting the Nollywood projects, the banks claimed they did not understand how to get their money back adding that it was a risky venture. And if they do not see payback period, it becomes difficult for them to lend.” This is a pretty big deal for the movie industry in Nigeria, and hopefully the quality of these movies increase a great deal. " http://www.jaguda.com/2010/08/01/world-bank-to-aid-nollywood-with-30-million/ "(CP-AFRICA) – The World Bank recently announced its decision to support Nollywood with about $30 million in funding. The Bank disclosed that it visited some local banks to ask why they weren’t funding Nollywood projects and that the banks insisted that they found Nollywood projects to be too risky. The World Bank thus decided to step in to provide a much needed buffer. You can read all about the Nollywood cash infusion here. And if they do not see payback period, it becomes difficult for them to lend.” Meanwhile, the President, DBI, Professor Raymond Akwule commenting on the topic “Enhancing the Nigerian Film Industry through ICT Education, Training and Enlightenment”, held in Lagos, said the conference was convened to find out how Information Communications Technology, ICT can help improve some aspects of the Nigerian film industry. Akwule said, “Some people talked about how we can help them digitize content and through this digitization, producers can actually take charge of their own products and then work through contractual agreement with marketers and distributors.” He however gave kudos to Nolloywood, noting that the film industry has been phenomenal. “I really respect what they do. For people who have very little resources, these are independent film producers who with their little resources are able to perform wonders actually on film. I really respect what they do.” However, the professor while acknowledging the achievements of Nollywood said the industry still need a lot of help, so that what they do can be made a whole lot better “and because I’m in the area of ICT, I think that we can use ICT to improve what they already do well,” he noted. The DBI president said the conference was an exploration to find out “which of these prescriptions about the new media actually help them enhance what they do. There is not one solution, what we are presenting is the possibilities, then you (film makers) can choose from any them and see what matches your own particular goal.” On his part, Tunde Kelani, a renowned film maker, noted that the use of ICT is not new to Nigerian film makers since Nolloywood has long embraced the new technologies. “ICT use is not really new to Nigerian film makers, one way or the other we have seen the impact of computer, motion application in motion picture production. After all we all have access to word processor, script writing software, accounting software among others. We used to work in analogue, but when digital came we adapted quickly and moved along with working with it. But other technologies have developed since then especially the impact of internet and Nigeria cannot be in isolation to the rest of the world. “We have to look at new market and new opportunities and how we can complement what we are doing, the way we are doing it and begin to look into the future because there is no doubt that we are in the digital era and we have to be part of the new technology,” he said. However, Kelani decried the lack of adequate infrastructure in the country which has continued to have negative impact on the film industry. “Its very difficult because whichever way you turn you will run against the barrier of lack of the necessary infrastructure to back you up, example there is no electricity, no good roads, internet penetration is low, that is part of the problems of lack of infrastructure, but we will continue to look at all the options and continue to try to make a living,” he said." http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/6374003-world-bank-to-aid-nollywood-with-us30m-new-media-usage-in-film-industry |
"Lagos — The last has not been heard of the controversial $200million stimulation package given by President Goodluck Jonathan to the entertainment industry, during the recently held 30th Anniversary of Silverbird Entertainment in Lagos. When Dr. Jonathan was making the pronouncement, it did not occur to him that his kind gesture towards the industry might soon become the source of fresh crisis in the already troubled Nigerian movie industry. In a recent press conference at the Whitehouse in Lagos, the Emeka Ike faction of the Actor's Guild of Nigeria (AGN) asked the president to spell how the money would be utilised to prevent some bad eggs in the industry from hijacking it. The press conference marked the first time any of the factions came out to talk on the controversy the money has created in the industry. Personalities like an ace producer, Madu C. Chikwendu, Alex Enyeogho, the chairman of Association of Core Nollywood Producers (ANCOP), prolific actor and self-acclaimed president of AGN, Emeka Ike, London-based entertainment lawyer, Ade Ajanaku, Oke Ogunjiofor of VideoSonic Studio and many others were present at the press briefing. Though they admitted that the money was not meant for the movie industry alone, the stakeholders, however, agreed it was right for them to make a case for their own section which is the Nollywood. The team took their time to list the various segments in Nollywood and insisted that the bodies should be represented in the sharing of the money. The segments include actors, producers, cinematographers, editors, theater practitioners, directors, scriptwriters, makeup artistes, costumiers, marketers, among others. Alex Enyeogho, who was the first speak made it crystally clear that Nollywood has some enemies within it, who are bent on usurping the efforts of the majority who truly have the interest of the industry at heart. "These forces that have ensured that the industry remained in perpetual dilemma have become the ultimate beneficiaries of our problem. They use their contacts with the government to appropriate to themselves resources that should have been channeled to the fundamental growth of the industry. Their connections give them edge over those with genuine interest. It also positions them as representatives of the industry before the government and foreign investors, thereby denying the industry its rightful leaders," Enyeogho lamented. He continued: "As major stakeholders in the industry, we believe there is no better time than now, especially as these elements are now lobbying Mr. President to hand over to them, the $200 million with which he has promised to support the industry." The stakeholders declared that in as much as Mr. Ben Bruce of Silverbird Entertainment was the catalyst for the money, the president's support was long overdue. Though they thanked the president for his kind gesture towards the industry, they however, informed Dr. Jonathan that they have not appointed anybody to represent the industry when it comes to the appropriation of money or any major project that concerns Nollywood. Hence, Emeka Ike declared: "As the bonafide president of the Actor's Guild of Nigeria, on behalf of the industry, I am saying that we have not appointed anybody not even Segun Arinze, who is currently parading himself as the guild's president to represent it. Also, the likes of Paul Obasele of the so-called AMP, and other self-styled organisations like COGAN, COSON and what have you, cannot represent us in the disbursement of the money promised the industry by Mr. President." Emeka Ike also observed that in recent times, the various associations and bodies that make up the Nollywood have witnessed series of crises leading to major breakups, unethical behaviours and controversies in the industry. These have affected the growth and unity required to take the industry to the next level. Ike pointed out that a reform is needed in the industry before any meaningful project could be carried out or any money could be appropriately utilised in the industry. While the restructuring will be on-going, however, the stakeholders advised Mr. President to transfer the $200 Million and other intervention funds from World Bank and the rest into an account which will be called the Entertainment Endowment Fund (EE FUND). When the industry has been properly structured, the funds can be released along priority lines. According to them, for example, there is need to improve capacity of associations and individuals in the industry to come up with quality products. They submitted that the funds be put into areas like training, youth development, acquisition of high tech equipment for the industry, building structures across the 36 states so as to enlarge the industry and get more youths gainfully employed, and intensify the fight against piracy. Ace producer, Madu C. Chikwendu, also highlighted the need for the president to realise that Nollywood is an industry and not a private entity owned by some individuals who are close to him. Hence, there is the need to channel the much-celebrated money to the right hands through legalised structures in the industry. Chikwendu revealed that there are over 36 associations in Nollywood alone and every one must share from the 'cake' fairly. One of the conveners of the conference, Alex Enyeogho corroborated Chikwuendu's claim by stating that, "For example, We have more than one body representing producers and more than one body representing the marketers, and a whole lot of mess like that." Alex, however, warned that should President Jonathan get it wrong in the proper way of channeling the money, a fresh crisis like never witnessed before in the industry might erupt which many force all aggrieved parties to take to the streets." http://allafrica.com/stories/201101031238.html President Goodluck Johnathon |
Beyonce is at her peak right now, and she can't get any higher then that but She can't stay up forever either though(especially in today's generation, just lasting a decade in the music entertainment industry in America is a accomplishment as far as I am concerned). What comes up must come down, and she isn't getting any younger either. So if she decides to stop completely and have kids then that's her business and she has done all the goals she ever wanted to do any way, she has been singing since 1999 with destiny child and started her solo career in the mid 2000's, she has sang almost everything she can possibly sing. So she can slow down all she wants, she can't stay the singer Beyonce forever. |
^^^^ the same with me I've been waiting to see that movie forever, and have asked my mom as well about it too but it was never released on VCD or DVD, So I guess I have to wait a couple of months before it's out on VCD & DVD before I can see it. |

"Ambassador, Funke Akindele has lots of surprises up her sleeves for her highly anticipated movie, The Return of Jenifa (TROJ). One of the many surprises is the fact that the actress will be flaunting her dance style, a side many didn’t know she has. Her dance choreographer on set was famous dancer and dance instructor, Kaffy. TROJ will be released in August and will be in cinema from August 26 courtesy Nigeria’s number one movie distributor, Blue Pictures. According to the actress’s publicist, Bigsam Media, TROJ will exceed whatever record ‘Jenifa’ set. ‘We have it on record that Jenifa sold over eight million copies which exclude the pirated copies taken abroad and we believe TROJ will overtake that record and set another one. The kind of effort that was put into the production of the movie is unequal. The DOP, DJ Tee, cast and crew, budget, and standard applied have not been seen in recent times. Asides all these, the storyline is refreshing and different. This is one movie that will break cinema record and set a new one’. The cast for the movie include Funke Akindele, Banky W, Kaffy, Eldee, Freeze, Eniola Badmus, Yinka Quadri, Whizkid, Antar Olaniyan, Mercy Aigbe, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Denrele Edun, CD John, Helen Paul, Naeto C, DJ Zeez and many others. "In what promises to be the biggest budget movie ever, Nollywood’s most celebrated producer – Emem Isong is set to release “I Will Take My Chance” – a movie most hope would be the biggest summer hit. Emen Isong alongside a number of producers in Nollywood represents the very best that the industry has to offer. Her movies from such classics as Emotional Crack, to Reloaded have won numerous awards and helped establish many actors and actresses as viable and marketable properties in Nollywood. In spite of all the accolades she has enjoyed in the industry, Emem has largely remained anonymous, preferring to let her body of work do the talking on her behalf. She rarely grants interviews and her private life is shrouded in mystery. Last month during my trip to Nigeria, I invited Emem to my hotel for what I told her would be a noholds barred interview, and she agreed to answer my questions without objections. As I mentioned above, Emem is an intensely private person and I began by asking her why she is so private in an industry where her works are so celebrated all over the world. “I don’t think I should insert myself in the mix. My job is to ensure that the actors and actresses have all the tools they need to do their job in the most professional manner, and so far, I am happy that fans have come to appreciate what we have been providing them.” In Nollywood, Emem Isong’s movies are usually celebrated as the very definition of production excellence and I asked her what makes her different from all the others “I won’t say I am different from the others, I would say it is all about how you want to define your work. With me, I insist on nothing but the very best from my actors and actresses. We don’t just embark on a production, for the sake of it, we try to ensure that everything we do conforms to our settled standards – from the story to the screenplay, to visuals, audio etc, and we do not sacrifice standards. We also ensure that our stories have redeeming social or moral value, and people tend to relate to this easily.” Emem Isong who is single, was asked what’s up with her romantic life? “I have always tried to keep that aspect of my life out of the public square, but I will tell you something I do not always talk about. I am blessed with a beautiful daughter, and she the love of my life and I thank God for bringing her to my life. Her father and I had a relationship, but things did not work out and I am dedicated to giving my daughter the greatest love she can possibly get. I am currently not in a relationship. Asked why she is not married, Emem said “Marriage is a beautiful thing, but it should never be something one should rush into when the elements are not fully aligned. I believe in marriage, but you have to be ready for it, when you spot the right person. When that moment comes, it will be out in open. See you got me to talk about my private life – nice try.” (Laughter.) Emem’s new project, expected to be launched in the summer called “I’ll Take my Chances” is reported to have already gulped 50 million Naira (approximately $500.000.000) – a princely sum for a Nollywood production and I asked Emen why the production cost so much money “this is going to be a definitional movie in Nollywood – one that may change the dynamics of the industry. We intend to use this movie to show that Nollywood movies can compare both in quality and aesthetic value to productions elsewhere in the world. We have assembled a cast of some of the most talented and beloved Nollywood stars – from the delectable Ini Edo, to veteran actor – Sam Loco Efe and the new entrant into the industry – Bryan Okwarra – a former Mr. Nigeria. It will be shown in the theatres all over Africa, Europe and the United States.” “I’ll Take My Chances” which is being directed by Desmond Eliot and has Emem Isong and Ini Edo as Executive Producers is a tale of “love, passion and dance.” According to the synopsis, I.K. is a young theater arts graduate who majored in dance in America and is passionate about it, He hopes to stage a drama called “Drumbeats” and scouts all over for sponsorship together with his American girlfriend – Gisele and they are both hopeful to find sponsors soon. He (I.K.) however, has to do his mandatory national youth service program orientation in a very remote village of Ikot Uyai in Cross River State and there, he met the enigmatic and stunningly beautiful Idara (played by Ini Edo. Despite their obvious cultural differences, the two are drawn together and love sparks are ignited. Idara, however, harbors a dark secret – she has been selected to be the next High Priestess of Unek – a deity that is worshiped by her people through dance. Torn between her love for I.K. and her duty to obey the call of the deity, Idara must choose one and face the greatest battle of all. Added to the suspense is the role of IK’s original girlfriend – Gisele. The movie shot with the latest digital camera and a crew that was manned by an international crew, “I’ll Take my Chances” is certainly a movie to look out for. The pictures below show scenes of the movie as provided exclusively to The Diasporan Star." http://www.thediasporanstaronline.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=151:ememisong&catid=40:nollywood&Itemid=2 https://www.connectnigeria.com/uploads/articles/big/illtakemychances.jpg http://www.connectnigeria.com/articles/cn-movie-review-i-ll-take-my-chances/417 I'll Take My Chances Nollywood movie trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpXByT58NbY |
