Culture › UN Warns Britain Over Child Voodoo Rituals, P.edophile Sex Tourists by anonymous6(op): 1:02pm On Jun 29, 2014
Hundreds of children are being kidnapped in Africa and bought to the UK for voodoo rituals, a UN watchdog said, also voicing alarm about the number of British pedophiles who prey on children abroad.

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) urged Britain to do more to stop this brutal form of people trafficking.

“We’re concerned about reports that hundreds of children have been abducted from their families in Africa and trafficked to the UK, especially London, for religious rituals,” Kirsten Sandberg, head of the CRC and a former Norwegian Supreme Court judge, said Thursday.

She said that trafficking for rituals was part of a wider problem where thousands of minors are brought to the UK, who end up being child prostitutes or being sexually exploited.

The CRC advised that Britain should “strengthen the capacity of law-enforcement authorities and judiciary to detect and prosecute trafficking of children for labor, sexual and other forms of exploitation, including for religious rituals.”

There have been numerous cases of children who have been brought to the UK from Africa and suffered torture and abuse, often as part of witchcraft rituals, AFP reports.

Victoria Climbie from the Ivory Coast was killed by her own relatives in 2000, who thought she was a witch.

More recently, in March 2012, Eric Bikubi and Magalie Bamu, both from the Democratic Republic of Congo, who moved to London, were found guilty of murdering Magalie’s teenage brother, Kirsty.
The prosecution argued that Bikubi had a “profound and disturbing” belief in witchcraft and although the defense said that Bikubi was suffering from schizophrenia, the judge sentenced both defendants to life in prison.

A year later the Metropolitan Police found the dismembered corpse of a Nigerian boy in the River Thames, who they believed was a victim of a ritual.

The CRC also warned about the number of British pedophiles who travel abroad – most notably to Southeast Asia, particularly Cambodia and Thailand, for sex with children. Orphanages were a favored destination where sex predators could pick on vulnerable kids.

“There are continued reports that United Kingdom citizens, including some convicted sex offenders, set up charities or travel abroad, where they sexually abuse children,” Sandberg said.

She called on the British government to get its act together to toughen identification, investigation and prosecution of British citizens involved in such crimes, as well making sure convicted and known pedophiles do not travel abroad.

The UK government has said that new orders can now be applied to individuals who are deemed to pose a risk of sexual harm, even if they have never been convicted.

A national group led by the Home Office will look at ways the police and other agencies can better detect and combat sex offenders.

“Our two new civil prevention orders will make it easier to restrict the movement and activities of anyone who poses a risk of causing sexual harm to children and adults – not just those who have been convicted of sexual offences,” Norman Baker, the crime prevention minister, said in a statement.

A BBC journalist posing as a children’s trafficker trawled the bars and cafés of the Kampala underworld in Uganda in 2011. He found a kidnapper who boasted he could “offer as many children as required” without the police knowing for $15,600 a child.

Foreign Affairs › Ugandan Parliament Passes Anti-gay Bill That Includes Life In Prison - CNN by anonymous6(op): 3:53pm On Dec 22, 2013
"(CNN) -- After years of controversy, the Ugandan parliament has passed a bill that punishes certain acts of homosexuality with life in prison.

A Ugandan lawmaker first introduced the bill in 2009, sparking worldwide condemnation for tough measures that included the death penalty.

It was briefly shelved amid the backlash. At the time, some European nations threatened to withdraw aid to Uganda, which relies on millions of dollars from the international community.

Before its passage Friday, parliament adjusted the death penalty clause to life in prison for "aggravated homosexuality." It includes acts where one person is infected with HIV, "serial offenders" and sex with minors, Amnesty International said.

In cases where one has HIV, the punishment applies even when the sex is consensual or protected.

"Ugandans have been anxiously waiting for this bill. This day will be a good day for all Ugandans," said Benson Obua Ogwal, a member of parliament for Moroto.

The bill also proposes years in prison for anyone who counsels or reaches out to homosexuals, a provision that would ensnare rights groups and others providing services to lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender people.

"The knock-on effect of passing this bill will reach far beyond gay and lesbian people in Uganda, impeding the legitimate work of civil society, public health professionals and community leaders," said Aster van Kregten, deputy Africa director at Amnesty International.

Homosexuality is illegal in most African countries, where sodomy laws were introduced during colonialism. In Uganda, homosexual acts are punishable by 14 years to life in prison, according to rights activists.

But lawmakers in the conservative nation sought tougher legislation, saying Western lifestyle risks destroying Ugandan family units.

"This is a piece of legislation that is needed in this country to protect the traditional family here in Africa, and also protect the future of our children," David Bahati, the lawmaker who first introduced the bill, said last year. "Every single day of my life now I am still pushing that it passes."

Rights groups urged President Yoweri Museveni to veto the bill. To become law, it requires his signature within 30 days."

"With a population of 166.6 million, it made obvious sense for MAC Cosmetics to expand its brand to Lagos, Nigeria– but the Estée Lauder Inc. owned company is not stopping there. As reported by WWD, the global retailer has a set plan to expand throughout Africa with a three-year strategy. In December they plan to open a storefront in Zambia and in early January, Botswana.

“MAC has always been a trailblazer in emerging markets — India, Brazil and Turkey, for example,” Karen Buglisi the global brand president for MAC Cosmetics told the trade publication. “We believe that the breadth of our product line, particularly in foundation shades, and our pricing will appeal to the Nigerian market, as well other African markets.”

Having experience in South Africa with over 20 MACs in the country, they also plan to have a resident trainer and a senior makeup artist in each locale. “We want customers to be able to go to any market in the world and have a seamless service experience, and we will provide top-notch education to make this happen. We want to go in to Africa boldly and say, ‘We’re here.’,” Buglisi added."

"Khloé Kardashian has been keeping a low profile since filing for divorce from Lamar Odom less than a week ago. But on Wednesday, the 29-year-old posted a heartfelt message to Twitter that appeared to address the recent reports that she and Los Angeles Dodgers star Matt Kemp were an item. The reality star wrote, "This, in and of itself, is heart breaking and torture to my soul. Please, I don't need the extra rumors and BS right now."

But could Khloé's spirits soon be lifted? According to the December 30 issue of Us Weekly, the brunette beauty will gain a fortune when the divorce is finalized. The report states that in addition to keeping their $4 million Tarzana mansion and her $1 million diamond engagement ring, she will also be awarded a $2 million cash payout. That's a lot of change!

Check out the vid to hear how Khloé wore her heart on her sleeve just three days after filing for divorce, and be sure to tune in to "omg! Insider" on TV tonight for the latest in entertainment news."

Celebrities › Conrad Murray Says Michael Jackson Not The Biological Father Of ANY Of His Child by anonymous6(op): 4:06pm On Nov 26, 2013
"I’m actually a little surprised that it took this long for an interview with Conrad Murray to hit the internet – guess prices had to be negotiated carefully. He was released last month after serving two of his four year sentence in connection with Michael Jackson’s death by Propofol and opted to speak with The Daily Mail just a few days later to speak on the record. As Murray fights to try and get his medical license back he now insists that he never gave Michael a fatal Propofol dose, but that the troubled singer likely broke into his stash and shot himself up with it too fast causing cardiac arrest.

In fact, to hear Murray tell it he actually came to Michael’s drug party late and was trying to wean him off of the Propofol, not continue the abuse of the high-powered, short lasting drug. Murray claims that at the end of his life Michael was living in distrust of everyone and considered his family tree to be incredibly small in spite of the actual size of the Jackson family. Michael supposedly told Murray that he and Michael’s three children were the only real family that he believed that he had. As for those kids, Paris, Blanket and Prince Michael, Murray goes on the record to claim that none of them were biologically Michael’s kids, but I think we all kind of figured that much, right?

Because of Michael’s insistence that they were all family, Murray to this day claims to feel a strong responsibility to the kids because he insists that Michael would have wanted him to have a part in their lives, especially now that he’s not here to protect them. Do you think that Murray is telling the truth about his relationship with Michael and his attempts to wean him from the drug that eventually killed him? Or is Murray just telling a good story because the price was right? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!"

Celebrities › Zappos Zings Kanye West Over Product Diss by anonymous6(op): 7:29pm On Nov 21, 2013
"Watch your step Kanye West; Zappos won't take your comments sitting down.

After the "Bound 2" singer threw shade at Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh for selling "s--t products" in a podcast on Monday, the online retailer slung some mud right back at the rapper and created a "s--t" product page on Zappos.com in honor of his comments.

Hsieh joked in a statement, "Yes, it's true that we sell s--t product," and also tweeted out the following message.
The product page is hocking a toilet set with a plunger for hefty price of $100,000, which the company insists is "perfect for all ages." Thankfully, like all of Zappos's products, it ships free.

A rep for the company released a statement to omg! plugging the new product launch and joked, "With the holidays right around the corner, the timing is perfect to shop at Zappos.com to find the perfect "s—t" for everyone on your list!"

To date, the product already has 37 reviews with several commenters giving it five stars overall for comfort and style.

"The s--t product is amazing. It totally beats out any new music video you're Bound 2 see!!" writes one commenter, clearly playing on the words of West's saucy new video with his topless fiancée, Kim Kardashian.

Another reviewer wrote, "Yo Zappos. Imma let you finish … but this is the best s--t product of all time!"

Uh oh, Kanye. It looks like the gauntlet has officially been thrown, and unfortunately it looks like you're the butt of this joke."
