Rgp92: tbh, nollywood is nothing to be proud of. They trash our culture most of the time.
To a extent you have a point especially with some English Nollywood movies but the yoruba movie industry is doing fine particularly with the village movies. However I feel Nollywood has potential to progress to a standard black african film industry.

"The Dogon's (Mali, Africa) homeland has been designated a World Heritage site for its cultural and natural significance. They are also famous for their artistic abilities and vast knowledge about astrology, especially the Sirius star, which is the center of their religious teachings."

fellis: They admire foreign cultures more than their local cultures. While that is not really ideal, you can't blame them for doing so because our cultures and traditions are dying, hardly in use anymore so people are starting to regard them as outdated/obsolete.
It depends on the african culture/tribe actually, not all are dying out.
two languages must be made cumpolsory in all nations. the first is the mother tongue and the second is "english". YES. you heard me right. english is important to communicate with othe r people around the world, be it Africa or elsewhere for two reasons:

1) it has the widest vocabulary in the world so we can express ourselves anyhow.

2) we can comunicate with anyone in the world.

3)we are using it on Nairaland.

but ofcourse, first the mother tongue is important.
Yes I agree, but it's that what is happening in Nigeria, majority of children in Nigeria know their mothers tongue way before getting into school at times. Even in government for example the official language in Lagos is Yoruba not English, so to me that is way that will keep that alive. Lastly the parents are major people that can contribute this as well particularly in the western world.

Celebrities › Re: Hotels Say Lady Gaga Is The Least Desirable Celebrity To Shack-up With by anonymous6(f): 10:30pm On Jul 21, 2012
Orikinla: Lady Gaga may be one of the most popular celebrities in the world today, but a survey of guests at the major hotels shows that she is the least desirable celebrity they would like to shack-up with.

Don't Want Your Poker Face

One public figure clearly emerged from the rest as the least preferred travel mate of all. With 24 percent of the overall response count, Lady Gaga was voted an undesirable travel mate by all age groups represented in this survey. Other objectionable figures include Ryan Seacrest and Spiderman.

ezeagu: Christians have all of the above.

It's not surprising that Pan Africanism is a concept from the Americas, just like "black" itself and the Ancient Egypt bias.

kandiikane: No one used you as an example. If you feel like north Africans are not African, that is your own personal opinion.

I spoke in general
. Refer to royal who mentioned your name, not me.
As long as I understand we understand each other, thanks

I'm not going to derail this thread so I am not going to refer to that person, lets leave it at that

kandiikane: Anonymous, and where in this thread did kandiikane mention your name? Royal mentioned your name and I spoke in general.
True, but I don't want my name being used to start a debate on this thread for no reason

kandiikane: How can someone not be African when their country is in Africa and they are indigenous? What stup!dity is that?

@Topic, for the akan people, there are more subgroups but I am putting only two.
Ok,I just happened to come across this thread and I was mentioned for no reason. I just want to say I have nothing against your thread, I actually think it is nice; when it comes to North African well I feel the ones today are only African because they are on the continent but everything else about them are middle eastern by culture. racially they are mixed at least majority of them and are not the north african of the ancient times like the Nubians, many I have come across don't like to be called that also but some do as well. Any way all I want to tell you is please ask me of my opinions then listening to a person putting my name in a thread for no reason, thank you

Here is the thread where I have my views of North Africa: https://www.nairaland.com/986654/divide-between-north-sub-saharan-africa

That thinking is already in the western world sadly
Culture › Re: Does Nollywood Misrepresent Traditional Religion? by anonymous6(f): 12:38pm On Jul 21, 2012
you see herein lies the problem. after the advent of monotheism, you expect religion to do good for you and to serve your purpose. but heres the fact. Pagan religions are not meant to do your bidding. NO. you have a government for that to do good for you. the monotheists think, its always a good vs evil struggle where good will triumph. this is not the case with us. we believe in balancing the forces. i have already explained human sacrifices in previous threads and why it was carried it out in the past. you will have to dig through my old posts for that.

Asians have their own traditional religions. in fact, the situation of South, South-East and East Asians is very similar to our African religious situation. Europe "HAD" her traditional religions during the days of the tribes, but after christianity the tribes have become extinct and all the vast Pagan knowledge has been lost unfortuantely. europe can never return back. they are in fact one of the sources of trouble for all the world uptil the past 50 years, if you know what i mean.
You have some points but I don't think that should only be with solely on the backs on governments because governments are ruled by men, and as a result men can be wrong and all the negatives today and that's why many governments around the world are not up to their potential; I feel religion should also do good for you, isn't that what many religions teach but you also have to help yourself and earn rightfully as well.
