A man's sudden passing just a few hours after his wedding his caused serious grief amongs his family and community members. A 45-year-old man identified as Felix Rwang Danjuma, a native of Rim district in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, died at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) – two hours after his wedding on Saturday April 13, 2019.

He died wearing his wedding suit while the bride was heading home in her wedding gown when the shocking news reached her.Sadly, Felix couldn’t even witness the reception of his wedding where he was expected to dance in the fullness of joy with his bride and entertain his friends with choice wine and meal.

He was rushed to Jos University Teaching Hospital at about 3:30pm after the exchange of wedding vows at the church and gave up the ghost at 5:30pm.

Right from the church, it was learnt that he started having strange feelings that made it difficult for him to breath.On arrival at the hospital, those who knew him were hailing him in the male ward, a situation which attracted people to his bed. He danced and celebrated with people in the hospital after he regained consciousness.

He was asking people to go and rest but those close to him said he was the one that needed to rest. News went round that Felix was in a stable condition and the bride was happy celebrating with her friends in anticipation that he was going to be discharged later in the day.Felix later decided to sleep but failed to wake up two hours after he was brought to the hospital.


Those who were beside his bed didn’t know that he was dead. It was discovered when they noticed tears in his eyes and blood gushing out of his nose.The attention of doctors on duty was drawn immediately to his condition but it was too late to save his life as he was confirmed dead. The sad news turned the wedding celebration into mourning, the guests became sympathizers.

His death immediately generated lot of speculations. While some people were suspecting a witchcraft attack, other thoughts were running riot in the mind of the 24-year-old bride, Keneng who cried and wailed hoping a miracle would happen.

Narrating to Saturday Sun how her hope of being together with her husband was dashed two hours after their wedding, the 24-year-old Kaneng said her husband became sick during the preparation for their wedding and recovered before the event.

She said: “He was hospitalized after our traditional wedding at Bingham University Teaching Hospital Jos and was discharged after some days. He was hale and hearty as the wedding plan was going on smoothly with high expectations.

”Three days to the wedding, he was struck with an ailment and was rushed to Jos University Teaching Hospital. After diagnosis, he was confirmed to be diabetic.According to her, he was brought to the church from the hospital on the wedding day where they tied the nuptial knots with a vow to love each other till death parts them.

Keneng was not expecting that her husband would die in such circumstances. Her prayer was that he was going to be discharged from the hospital on the wedding day.

He was however returned to the hospital even before the wedding reception ended based on doctor’s advice. Her expectation was that her husband would return home that fateful day after medical examination. But unfortunately, he died.

The funeral rites were conducted on Thursday April 18, 2019 at his village in Rim district of Riyom Local Government.

A Lagos-based trader, Abraham Epelle, has been arrested by the state police command for his alleged involvement in a visa fraud worth N3.6m.

Epelle reportedly collected the sum from one Ikechukwu Uzor, a resident of Ajangbadi area of the state, to help the man process a South Korean visa, a flight ticket and accommodation in the Asian country.

City Round learnt that Epelle used the sum for his parents’ burial and procured a fake visa for Uzor.Having discovered that the visa was fake upon its presentation at the South Korean embassy, the victim reported a case of fraud at the Okota Police Station and Epelle was arrested.

The suspect reportedly owned up to the crime and was released on bail after he promised to refund Uzor’s money by February 2019. It was gathered that he stopped the repayment after paying N300,000.

The complainant was said to have petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Muazu, and he was rearrested.Uzor told the police that one Princess introduced him to Epelle, who deals in wear, to help him process the visa, the flight ticket and facilitate his accommodation in South Korea.

He said Epelle charged him N4m for the services but they agreed on N3.6m after negotiations, adding that the suspect assured him that the visa would be ready soon.Uzor, a businessman, stated that he became worried when Epelle did not get him the visa several months after.

He stated, “The whole transaction started in August 2017.

I paid N3.6m into his account but he failed to keep to his promise of processing the visa within weeks.“When I mounted pressure on him, he collected my passport and gave me a fake South Korean visa some days later.

“I took the visa to the South Korean Embassy for verification and it was confirmed that it was fake. I then reported the case to the police and he promised to refund my money. After he paid N300,000, he defaulted.

”The suspect, who admitted to have collected the sum from Uzor, said he gave N140,000 to one Linus, who is at large, to process the visa.

He said he used the remaining sum to celebrate the burial of his parents, who died around the period he collected the money from Uzor.He said, “I am from Abia State.

I came to Lagos in 2016 and started dealing in second-hand wear.“Sometime in August 2017, one Princess introduced Uzor to me to help him process South Korean visa, get a flight ticket and accommodation.

He paid N3.6m in instalment into my account.“I collected his passport and gave it to Mr Linus, who is an importer, for the visa processing. I gave him N140,000 but did not get any result from him.

I lost my mother and father within two months’ interval and I used the money for their burial.“When Uzor started disturbing me about his visa, I went to a computer business centre and got a fake visa for him.

I have refunded N300,000 out of the money I collected from him.”The suspect was subsequently brought before an Ikeja Magistrates Court sitting in Ogba on five counts bordering on fraud.A police prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the offence contravened sections 280(1)(a), 314(1)(3), 365(1), 370(a)(b) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The charge read in part, “That you, Abraham Epelle, and others now at large, sometime in August 2017, at Isolo Okota Road, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire to commit felony to wit obtaining the sum of N3.6m from one Ikechukwu Uzor, with the pretence to help him to procure South Korean visa, which you know to be false, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 314(1)(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

”The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.The presiding magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Hamzat, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case to June 17, 2019.

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and his Nigerian teammate Kelechi Iheanacho have been nominated for Leicester City’s Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season awards respectively.

Ndidi and Iheanacho’s names were among the list of nominees for both categories of the awards released on Leicester City’s official website on Friday.

Ndidi has won the Young Player of the Season award for the past two seasons following his arrival at the club from Belgian Jupiler League side KRC Genk.

He is a firm favourite for the higher award category this time around following another stellar season with the Foxes.Ndidi, 22, has featured in 34 Premier League games this season and scored twice.

None of his goals however made the shortlist for the Goal of the Season award.

Iheanacho on his part, has struggled to make impact at the club this season and risks missing out on a place in Nigeria’s squad to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.He has scored once in 28 league appearances for Leicester City.

Other players in the race for the Young Player of the Season are Demarai Gray, Harvey Barnes, Youri Tielemans, Ben Chilwell, James Maddison, Filip Benković, Çağlar Söyüncü and Hamza Choudhury.

For the Player of the Season award, Ghanaian defender Daniel Amartey, Nampalys Mendy, captain Wes Morgan, Danny Simpson, Rachid Ghezzal, Shinji Okazaki, Harry Maguire, Filip Benković, Matty James, Ricardo Pereira, Adrien Silva and Çağlar Söyüncü were listed.

Others are Hamza Choudhury, Youri Tielemans, Ben Chilwell, Demarai Gray, Marc Albrighton, Danny Ward, Harvey Barnes, Jamie Vardy, Andy King, Kasper Schmeichel, Christian Fuchs, Jonny Evans, Fousseni Diabaté and James Maddison.

The winner of the awards will be announced at the end of the season dinner at the King Power Stadium on May 7.

Other awards on the night include the Academy Player of the Season, Development Squad Player of the Season, Performance of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season.

The Nigerian Navy on Monday, April 1, 2019 handed over two persons and a vessel, allegedly involved in illegal oil bunkering to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt Zonal Office, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The suspects, Aladetan Femi and Kingsley Amuzie were on board MT Arowolo when they were arrested on April 11, 2018 by men of the Nigerian Navy around Onne Anchorage, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Navy Commander M.A Rogo who handed over the suspects to the Commission disclosed that they were arrested on the suspicion that the vessel deliberately switched off her Automatic Identification System, AIS, at several times at the anchorage without any justifiable reason.

Mr. Olayinka Macaulay, an EFCC operative who received the suspects on behalf of the Commission promised that the Commission would not only carry out a thorough investigation into the matter, but would ensure that the suspects are brought to book, if found culpable.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, the funds would be utilised through an ongoing programme launched in 2016 and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Nigeria.

The interventions being implemented in the region are aimed at supporting victims of Boko Haram insurgency in the three most affected states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

According to the statement, the recent release of funds “builds on ongoing activities that the Government of Japan has been supporting which have facilitated the rehabilitation of 20 public infrastructures and provided emergency employment to more than 2,000 Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and returnees".

Also, more than 4,000 farmers and over 1,000 small businesses have received support with inputs and capital that helped improve and expand their sources of livelihood. The Government of Japan has already invested $6.5million in stabilisation activities in Nigeria’s North-East.

The funding from the Japanese government would be utilised within the framework of Integrated Community Stabilization Programme which UNDP has been implementing in the region intended to directly benefit 125,000 people in the three states. An additional one million people will indirectly benefit from interventions under the project. Implemented through an integrated approach, the project’s goal is to support over 2,200 farmers, 500 small businesses, five community public infrastructures, and provide emergency employment to over 850 community members.

Speaking on the activities in the region, Khardiata Lo Ndiaye, acting UNDP Resident Representative, said: “Stabilization efforts in the North-East are helping families and communities begin to rely less on humanitarian aid and more on themselves. This support from the Government of Japan will go a long way in laying a foundation for development to take place again in the region.”

Ms. Khardiata added that meeting urgent early recovery needs of the crisis-affected communities remained a huge challenge requiring more partners and investment.

In his remarks, Shigeru Umetsu, Chargé d’affaires ad interim of Japan to Nigeria, gave the assurance that the Government of Japan would continue to support efforts aimed at restoring stability and livelihoods for the communities in the North-East.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Enugu State, Sen.

Ayogu Eze, has called for peace ahead of the Saturday’s governorship elections as directed by an Abuja Appeal Court.

Briefing journalists in Enugu on Friday, Eze alleged that barely eight hours to the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had yet to include his name in the race.

Eze alleged that the removal of his name from the INEC final list of governorship candidates for the election a few days before the election was a calculated attempt to punish him and create room for INEC’s preferred candidate and party.

“Even after the Abuja division of the Court of Appeal overturned the decision of the Federal High Court which formed the basis for INEC’s action, the commission has bluntly refused to retune my name to the final list on the INEC official portal 24 hours after they were served the order of the court,’’.

He wondered why INEC was taking an apparently partisan position in a matter where they would otherwise have been impartial.According to him, INEC is colluding with unknown forces to rob me of my victory in the Saturday, March 9 election.He alleged that the whole plan was designed to discourage his supporters and deny him victory.

Eze said that barely eight hours to the election his supporters were still confused whether they would participate in the election or not because of the development.Meanwhile, efforts to reach Dr Emeka Ononamadu, the INEC Residential Electoral Commissioner in Enugu State for reaction failed as his mobile phone was unreachable and he did not respond to messages sent to him.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Thursday ruled that Sen. Eze remains the true governorship candidate of the APC in Enugu State.

The court affirmed the APC gubernatorial candidate barely two days to the elections.In His ruling over the substantive suit by Eze challenging his removal by Federal High Court, the panel of judges led by Justice Abdul Aboki upheld the prayers of Eze in which he prayed that he was the duly elected candidate of the party.

The appellate court ruled that “what happened at the lower court was a miscarriage of justice as Mr George Ogara has no case in the first place.”He stated that “Ogara filed after 14 days of the result being published as allowed by law, so the lower court had no jurisdiction to entertain his case.”
