There's a toll free number you can call. But usually military people and international students (they pay insurance) get it right away once they land. But don't quote me. Call or send them an email.
Thanks. Will do that

Come on my people. Simple Google could answer the question. You'd need to wait 3 months.

Thanks Maternal there is also a special consideration which I believe may cover PR. But the "on or before clause" is not clear. Perhaps those who move there as PR can help it this ever was considered or applicable to them

Special Classes of Newcomers
If you are moving to Saskatchewan from outside of Canada, you may be eligible for Saskatchewan health coverage on, or before, the first day of the third month after arriving in Canada, if you are among one of the groups:

Permanent residents (landed immigrants)
People discharged from the Canadian Forces
Non-immigrants who are in Canada in connection with their trade or profession
International students
Returning spouses of Canadian Forces members
Returning Canadian citizens

I was told 2bags for baby by united customer care in the US but when I got to the airport it was a diff story I had to pay $200 f the extra bag
Wow,
I'm not sure why that happened. Could you state the airport where this occurred so we know if it is particular with certain places.

However, the US office customer rep even said we could call them at the airport if there are issues and they will talk to the staff.

I know this may happened.

Hello people, need advice please especially if you've had a personal experience. Planning on flying united @ 33weeks. Is this ok or too close for comfort in relation to flying? Thanks
@Dialinn,
I think wifey flew united about same time in Jan and all was well. Although we had our Doctor's report handy. Only this was checked and port health report was not requested. Wifey wasn't looking heavy or pregnant though. We had a good flight and hostess were nice when I didn't like the food, they offered me more drinks and Juice instead. Plus the entertainment was okay (had some recent movies).
I think you should collect Doctor's report and to be on safe side, collect report also from Port health on that day.

You might also like to use the 2 bags (23 kg) for new born on your return...God help you and have a safe flight.

Hello Everyone.
Congrats to all those whose visa was granted recently.
Quick update: I received wife and new born back to Nigeria last week. Had to change flight date though.
For the record, God bless firsttymum and others who posted details about the 2 bags (23 kg) for baby on united. My wife used this from Dallas to Lagos and no issues at all. Check in 4 bags (23 kg) plus diaper bag, hand luggage (10kg), breastpump and baby car seat free.

I kept calling their US office to confirm and they did, I even sent mail to their customer service in US and got affirmative reply just to harm wifey when going. Meanwhile the united office in Nigeria said It is only one bag (10kg)....and that was shocking. Just shrugged it off and went with the US office response. all in all, they offer is valid for now.

Once again, thank you all.

Zumabeezle:
I used airbnb last year October when I went to dallas and my host was very nice although I stayed there for just 3 days. I paid with my gtb debit card then. With airbnb, u have to be careful when choosing a host. Read reviews about ur host, read ur host's house rules, be sure the address is close to ur doc/hospt. Since you'll be staying for a long time, u wanna ensure that u have a friendly host and that you'll enjoy some level of privacy.
You can also read back. A few mother's got cheap accommodation close to oakbend.
I actually booked airbnb and used it for my visa processing. It was in Richmond and cheap. Because I booked for a long duration about 10weeks we had to make part payment. If it long stay... your card will be booked and then 1st installment dedcuted. You will then pay the 2nd installment after you check in (if I can stil remember) and the 3rd installment after a month been there... not sure. But I know I was to pay three time cos only the first installment was deducted but your card will be booked.

I cancelled mine after we change our mind and the host was very kind enough to refund ALL of my money paid to her by airbnb. I had asked for this favour from her before making payment to airbnb and she confirm she will refund me if I change my mind but should carry her along well. This was to cater for case of visa rejection. So some airbnb may be good and cheap.

My advise though... you can book some days. get there to check if all is well. Before making long commitment.

Ok quick update on our journey so far. I travelled with my wife Jan 01, 2016. Before then, my wife's guardian prefer she stays with people where they could offer help and care since she's a first time mum and her first time in U.S. That means we would head to McKinney Texas instead of Houston Ticket we already booked. I didn't change the ticket and we agreed we would enter through Houston and then use bus to Dallas then the host would come pick us. Downtown Dallas is about 30-40mins from McKinney (I guess).

Houston POE was a breeze though wifey spent an hour just waiting to be attended to. They check her correspondence and counted her cash (went with 8k).

Then from houston we used bus to McKinney to Dallas and then host picked us. The Bus was cool mehn. Enjoyed the free WiFi too. About 4hrs 30mins or so.

She eventually got a doctor in McKinney for $2400 and Hospital for $3500. She had normally delivery and welcomed our first baby (boy) on Feb 13, 2016. So far the bill has been ok. No hidden charge. Hospital Paeditrician we paid $268 (should have been 200 but we paid 68 extra for an additional service we requested).
First visit to Paed was $100 and subsequent was $85. Doctor accepted our naija medical record we paid $68 dollars for extra test conducted.

Wifey will start document processing from Monday and should be done in 2-3weeks by my calculation.

We would like to thanks everyone for the info shared here.... God bless you all. Meanwhile I had to call Dr E office and apologise for not coming back to Houston and she gave her blessings. Sent her a mail too cos the office manager was really understanding and nice.

In all sha we are doing fine and counting down to seeing wifey and cute boy soon.

Nb: even though my wife don born... I still read up to date in this thread as if I get UME to write. I don't comment often though but I read all... everyday!

Ok. I think its time to share our story. In the spirit of giving back...

Though I have a nairaland account for many years, i became very active Sep 2015. I read all Part 1, some part 2 and have been up to date on part 3. That may explain why I might not have asked many questions as all of the info we used for our interview were detail we got from here. My wife is very busy so i do most of the reading. Anywhere? Bus, Toilet, kitchen, lunch time etc...lol. here goes our interview transcript....

VO: Good morning
Me & Wife: good morning
VO:why are you going to US?
Wife: For childbirth
Me: to visit my wife and witness the birth
VO: (looking surprise but straight face)....ok. have you contacted any doctor?
Me: Yes. (Pull out our burden of proof to show her doctors correspondence )
VO: Oh okay....Youre going to Houston Texas....now started the barrage of question....how much does hospital charge for CS, how much for epidural, how much for doctor fee,
Me: answered and then point to our budget sheet, doctor and hospital fee.
VO: what do you....tell me your role at work and hiw much you earn
Both: told her:
VO: where would you stay and how much for a day
Wife: told her we booked for 10weeks
VO: (looking surprised)....thats too cheap...are you sure
me: yes...we git a special discount....showed tge receipt.
VO: not satisfied. ....can i see your bank statements
Wife: hands over the doc
VO kept tyoing and checking thr statement lune by line.....then looks up. Left for a while to speak to a supervisor and came back...Im sorry i cannot complete your application now... we need to make some check further on this. ...Took the bank statements and gave us the pink sheet or so....stating application will go for admin processing.
Left with mixed feeling but we trusted God and thanked him cos we were not rejected. After, wifey bank called to confirm the bank where she got her statement...she told them and we waited again for another week. She asked why and the ank just said they are trhing to respond to the us embassey since the signature on the statement wasn't rregular. Then after 2weeks, wifey was called from visa office to come back any Tuesday by 1:30pm to complete the interview....i couldnt go so only wifey went since the VO said one of us can come. Wifey was then issued visa for both of us without issue.
Gods been good and thanks to all the comments and ideas shared here.
Surprisingly we got email from DR A of OMC office and that's what we used....i read she doesnt really send mails but we got after repeated calls to her office.
Just to point that we should remain honest no matter what and dont used any forged documents...these VO can go as far as checking to confirm whatever we say....the VO investigated our account statement and the accomodation we stated....

@firstymum, ozycy, phema, tvegas, favoredgal, mumtee, etc .....Thanks everyone. ...

will come back to share POE stories for her when she's there....traveling Jan....due in Feb

So sorry for the long post....Im going back to reading mode....

I intend to use Dr Adaiah Ezekiel in Oakbend. The budget sheet is hereby attached.
Honestly, i remember DH mentioned he heard about Dr F's attitude subjecting mamas to induction when they didnt request for it etc but I searched for this info online but didnt see it. Healthgrades and a couple other medical site to check out Dr's reviews didnt even mention anything like it but i knew one day I would get more info on him via this platform. May God help us.
@MumTee, thanks for attached budget sheet. That was very helpful. God bless you. My wife is also planning to use Dr Adaiah Ezekiel at Oakbend but delivery should be in Feb. Can you help with the accommodation you're using and how did you confirm the other fees (Pediatrician, Pathologist, Anesthesiologist etc that you included in your budget? Pleas help out.

Hi everyone,
I have read through all of this previous post. My wife has an intention of applying for visa to give birth in Canada. Just wanted to clear our minds on certain issues please.

1. I understand you need to show proof of funds. Like how much is okay for this? and for how long must the cash be in the account before applying?

2. Must we specifically state intentions of giving birth in the comments section of the online application and which is better to apply for ..... Medical visa or tourist visa?

I will appreciate your kind assistance. Thank you.
