The correspondence from Oakbend is okay...most likely you'll be asked at the POE. 10k should see you through. Well pray there's no 'incasity' while staying with Family cos they could act funny at times especially when it comes to paying bills.(not applicable to all families).Travel with enough Naija food stuff, they tend to appreciate that a lot and don't lazy around. With that you're good to go. Talking from experience....

hello house. this is my first time posting here i think. i want to thank everybody for their contributions on this thread. had my interview on the 9th and was offered the visa. i was very surprised because my interview was all of 3 minutes but i told them the truth. thank you all for advising on the truth policy. Now time for the rest of the hustle, i am due june and would like to go in early may. the only thing i have is correspondence with the doc at oakbend and a 10k budget that should cover my transport too.. Please how do i proceed? would the money be enough i will be staying with family in houston but i want to be ready just "incase of any incasity". please help. thank you.

The Lord is your strength, just relax, pray and don't let anyone or anything get to u. As for luggages local flights are always like that. I think the first bag is free, 2nd u may pay $75 and 3rd bag like $135 not so sure again and I think it also depends on the airline

Hello kaylaychi, been following your post, thanks for all you post, i want to know if you were able to process form A to pay the hospital for childbirth

Can't imagine seeing a group of preggies talking and minding their business and I don't know them from Adam and I decide to be a stupid CNN correspondent and share that info.don't think that wI'll be helpful in any form. undecided

First thing, you are on point that the news will scare the bejesus out of a lot of preggies, but where else can he post a PSA about preggies & flying if not on this thread! smiley

I also took the post at face value & didn't know about the antecedent.... & I still believe it is ok to post cos some people don't follow anything that isn't entertainment news & may not be aware of flying risks for preggies...

Babe, probably the dead woman wasn't even "Fit to fly" & she didn't know cos she didn't clear it with her health care provider!!

Hi everyone been reading and reading! Lots of info! This Dollar thing is giving me the creeps! I will be travelling to Delaware next month and don't have PTA, I live in Abuja and every bank I go to is saying no PTA. Pls for those who have used form A when you apply to pay with form A how long does it take to process?
Did your bank ask for a referral from a Nigerian Specialist hospital to your US doctor?
How did you go about it?
Does the bank give you the money or send it directly to the US doctor/hospital?

Ok quick update on our journey so far. I travelled with my wife Jan 01, 2016. Before then, my wife's guardian prefer she stays with people where they could offer help and care since she's a first time mum and her first time in U.S. That means we would head to McKinney Texas instead of Houston Ticket we already booked. I didn't change the ticket and we agreed we would enter through Houston and then use bus to Dallas then the host would come pick us. Downtown Dallas is about 30-40mins from McKinney (I guess).

Houston POE was a breeze though wifey spent an hour just waiting to be attended to. They check her correspondence and counted her cash (went with 8k).

Then from houston we used bus to McKinney to Dallas and then host picked us. The Bus was cool mehn. Enjoyed the free WiFi too. About 4hrs 30mins or so.

She eventually got a doctor in McKinney for $2400 and Hospital for $3500. She had normally delivery and welcomed our first baby (boy) on Feb 13, 2016. So far the bill has been ok. No hidden charge. Hospital Paeditrician we paid $268 (should have been 200 but we paid 68 extra for an additional service we requested).
First visit to Paed was $100 and subsequent was $85. Doctor accepted our naija medical record we paid $68 dollars for extra test conducted.

Wifey will start document processing from Monday and should be done in 2-3weeks by my calculation.

We would like to thanks everyone for the info shared here.... God bless you all. Meanwhile I had to call Dr E office and apologise for not coming back to Houston and she gave her blessings. Sent her a mail too cos the office manager was really understanding and nice.

In all sha we are doing fine and counting down to seeing wifey and cute boy soon.

Nb: even though my wife don born... I still read up to date in this thread as if I get UME to write. I don't comment often though but I read all... everyday!

It depends on the bank, some banks will want to see a letter from a Naija doctor stating what is wrong with you and referring you, then the one from doctor abroad accepting you plus his invoice showing what it will cost you.
But I think diamond bank is simple, just the invoice from the hospital bearing your name and amount, you fill a form A and give them authority to debit your account for Naira equivalent.
Form A typically means accessing FGN money and you need to show genuine proof to gain access, the Bank will bid for you and pay on your behalf to the hospital. But always remember to ask for telex copy, that's your proof of payment and might be useful at POE

Yes. All inclusive.

To understand what u wrote. u used the Northside/north point obgyn. I was told by the billing and obgyn coordinator( Judy Furbish) that the doctors fee is $2200 excluding lab tests. Was that the same for you. Therefore your lab tests was the $300 that made it $2500.

Please see the mail sent by Judy Furbish of Atlanta women's health group and the billing coordinator for Northside/north point obgyn.

Good morning,

We will need prenatal labs, repeat HIV, Hgb a1c, Group B Strep, urine c+s, etc. If that is okay and you agrees to pay for what the doctors deem medical necessary we can go ahead and make an appointment.

Just let me know.

Just to be sure all this things she stated plus obgyn fee covers the $2500 u stated. Because I am scared of being slammed with any unforeseen bill considering how difficult It was for myself and hubby to get dollars.thank you for your previous response.

People tend to be generous when sharing their nonsense, fear and ignorance.
And while they seem quite eager to feed you their negativity, please remember that sometimes the diet we need to be on is a spiritual and emotional one.

I used airbnb last year October when I went to dallas and my host was very nice although I stayed there for just 3 days. I paid with my gtb debit card then. With airbnb, u have to be careful when choosing a host. Read reviews about ur host, read ur host's house rules, be sure the address is close to ur doc/hospt. Since you'll be staying for a long time, u wanna ensure that u have a friendly host and that you'll enjoy some level of privacy.
You can also read back. A few mother's got cheap accommodation close to oakbend.

Hi ifycharm. Will you like to ask your question here? Apologies I barely check that email.
Hope you are keeping well?

Hi mrsdan, hope u and baby are fine. I was asking about the obgyn group u used and the breakdown of the fees as the doctors only say they charge $2200 excluding lab but seem to be vague on the cost of the lab test. So I was hoping other Northside mummies could help clarify the total as well as the breakdown of fees paid to the obgyn. Thank u.

Love your post.

Also look out for coupons, for food, for clothes, for baby things, anything!

Ain't no shame in the game, most Americans never pay full price for anything. Register online with all the baby stores so you can get alerts for their sales and discounts as well as get coupons and offers.

Thanks dear

I used Northpointe Obgyn. They have 4 doctors within their organisation. Please note that there are several obgyns affiliated to Northside Hospital.

Altlanta women's health group is another Obgyn office. So they will have different rates/rules. You can ask for the cost of the tests and if they will accept your test from Nigeria.

I actually booked airbnb and used it for my visa processing. It was in Richmond and cheap. Because I booked for a long duration about 10weeks we had to make part payment. If it long stay... your card will be booked and then 1st installment dedcuted. You will then pay the 2nd installment after you check in (if I can stil remember) and the 3rd installment after a month been there... not sure. But I know I was to pay three time cos only the first installment was deducted but your card will be booked.

I cancelled mine after we change our mind and the host was very kind enough to refund ALL of my money paid to her by airbnb. I had asked for this favour from her before making payment to airbnb and she confirm she will refund me if I change my mind but should carry her along well. This was to cater for case of visa rejection. So some airbnb may be good and cheap.

My advise though... you can book some days. get there to check if all is well. Before making long commitment.
