The Senate on Thursday rejected one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominees for Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs, Ahmad Bello Mahmud based on the recommendation by the Senate Committee on INEC in its report which was adopted.

The Senate, however, approved the nomination of Ambassador Rufus Akeju (Lagos) and Dr. Mahmuda Isah (Kebbi) as Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.


The rejected nominee, Mahmud was alleged not to be an indigene of Zamfara State but Sokoto State.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has stated that the successful conduct of the governorship election in Anambra state last Saturday shows that the Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is dead and gone.

According to the Information Minister, the turnout of voters during the polls has diminished the IPOB.


Lai Mohammed said this while addressing reporters in Abuja, the nation’s capital on Wednesday, against reported call by the pro-Biafra group for indigenes to stay away on the election day.

His words, “I think what that proved really is that IPOB does not represent the good people of Anambra or any state in the South East.

He said the IPOB propaganda about the election really showed that they are not on ground.

“The people of Anambra have shown that there is no alternative to democracy and that they believe in one Nigeria and federal system of government. If there are issues to be resolved, let us resolve it. But terrorism and separatism is not the answer.


“I think the Anambra election has sounded the death knell on IPOB because they said election will never hold. The election has come and gone, the turnout was quite reasonable.

“Every party competed very competitively and at the end of the day, the people of Anambra have decided who is going to be their governor.”

Speaking at the Launch in Abuja, the Managing Partner of the company, Mr Thomas Uketjor, said that the software would provide superior interactive content with innovation and enhanced quality of life for users.

“Exammate 360 is for every level of study for secondary school examination and it is a combination of Exammate 5 and 3.

“Students can have all they need to study for senior secondary examinations both in school and other external examinations.

“The package offers one-year subscription with an adequate premium support service and interactive way to learn and study with well mapped current syllabus.”

Uketjor said 90 per cent of students who used the software in the past recorded great success in examinations.

He noted that over 300,000 students and hundreds of schools had made use of the learning aid to study for their examinations, adding that it had been rewarding.

Mr Anthony Oniwon, an official of the company, while demonstrating how the software was used, said the had a mobile version that could be downloaded and used on mobile phones.

“Exammate can be downloaded free on any android phone but needs activation.”

“Funding has been an issue in terms of marketing and advertising, people don’t really know about the software and it had been a lot of a struggle.

“We are working towards getting this to the grass root which necessitated the mobile version.

“JAMB is currently being written computer based and as much we think that rural school children don’t have mobile phones, but they do.

“We can also get the software installed in computer based testing centres so they can go in there to practice,” he said.

He said that examinations in the country could be written digitally, adding that the government needed to engage in more private collaborations and build the enabling environment for technology to thrive.

He, however, said that they were ready to work with Non Governmental Organisations to avail the software to the grass root for inclusive examination success.

The Exammate 360 would be sold for N5, 000, Exammate 5 at N2, 500 and Exammate 3 at N1, 500.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the killing of one of its marshals by suspected armed kidnappers on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.

The officers were attacked at Sabo-Wuse Area, on the Niger axis of the highway.


It was gathered that the deceased was traveling in a commercial bus, alongside other passengers when the hoodlums struck at about 6.30am.

Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, who confirmed the official’s death, said two other marshals were abducted by the gunmen.

Kazeem identified the deceased as Marshal Inspector 1, Ardo Njiga, and one of those kidnapped as Senior Road Marshal Assistant, Garba Bello.

“The marshals took permission to be with their families in Kaduna, at the weekend, and were on their way back to Abuja when the attack took place this morning (yesterday).


“Njiga was killed at the scene while Garba and the third marshal were taken to an unknown destination, alongside the other occupants of the bus.

“The matter is now with the security agencies, and it is our hope that our men are rescued and brought back to us alive,” Kazeem said.

Meanwhile, FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, has expressed sadness over the incident and commiserated with families of the victims.

The political situation in Zimbabwe is attracting regional leaders as Angolan President Joao Lourenco and his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma visits Harare on Wednesday.

President Lourenco made the announcement of the visit on Tuesday following the regional bloc SADC meeting in the Angolan capital Luanda.

“President Jacob Zuma and I have agreed to visit Harare tomorrow,” President Lourenco told journalists after the South African Development Community Troika meeting.

The SADC Troika comprises Angola, South Africa and Zambia.

South Africa is the chair, while Angola heads the bloc’s organ for Cooperation, Defence and Politics.

Zambia is the SADC deputy chair. The other SADC members are Botswana, the DR Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia and Swaziland.

The SADC Troika heads, said Angolan Foreign Affairs ministry director Joaquim do Espírito Santo, met to analyse the political situation in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu-PF party summoned its MPs to discuss President Robert Mugabe, after a deadline for his resignation came and went on Monday.

Zanu-PF on Sunday sacked President Mugabe as its leader, effectively ending his 37-year rule.

Mugabe finally also bowed to pressures to resign.

President Mugabe’s grip on power was broken last week when the military took over, angered at his wife Grace’s emergence as the leading candidate to succeed the 93-year-old leader.

Tens of thousands of overjoyed demonstrators then flooded the streets of Zimbabwe in peaceful celebrations, marking the apparent end of his long and authoritarian rule.

FIFA have released a 36-man list of referees that will officiate matches at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

There are no Nigerian officials included and a few other big names have been snubbed.


The underlisted are to attend a World Cup seminar this month in Abu Dhabi, which will run from November 25 to 29.

The final list stating specific roles will be announced once the use of video assistant referees (VARs) at the World Cup is approved by IFAB.

N-Power, the Nigerian Government empowerment scheme, ​has come under criticisms by applicants ​seeking to ​​know​ their pre-selection status.

N-Power had explained how applicants can check their status.

​But no one was able to access the page on the N-Power website as ​at 1:00am ​Tuesday despite assurances that it would be uploaded at11:30pm Monday.

Applicants are expressing their anger at the situation, while lamenting inability to get the information that kept them awake.

Remember that should the party decide to use the information at its disposal now to press an election tribunal case,an early congratulatory message could be used against you. We used that of Late Dora Akunyili against her in 2011,when she later went to the tribunal. Chukwuma Soludo regretted his early ‘gentlemanly’ statement in 2010,and could no longer pursue a case when he discovered a basis for doing so in his reports and results.
In this election many APC leaders were arrested and some stripped naked. Let’s tread with caution ,as yet.


Therefore, we can drift into other areas of politics ,or even life, but please allow the party and the candidate be the arrowhead in matters connected to the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that it will remain vigilant in collation of results until the announcement of the final result and winner of the Anambra governorship election.

INEC Director of Publicity and Voter Education, Mr Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi told newsmen on Saturday that the commission would continue to ensure that all the processes of the election went down well.

“Election can be manipulated at any stage, so we have to be vigilant until the final result is collated and the winner is announced by the commission.

“The collation of result from the units to the state level is on going. Until the final result is announced, INEC remains vigilant to ensure that the people’s votes count.

“So we are still vigilant at every stage,” Osaze-Uzzi said.

He assured that all votes cast would be properly recorded, transmitted and collated at the end of the day.

On the general assessment of the election, Osaze-Uzzi said the voting process was generally peaceful and was in accordance with plan, except for the late commencement of poll in some few units.

“Generally the election has been peaceful and we are very happy. The turnout look to me better than the last two previous governorship elections,”‎ he said.

On the allegation that there was no election at Okpoko in Ogbaru and Umudim in Nnewi North council areas, Osaze-Uzzi said the matter was also being investigated by the commission with a view to finding appropriate solution to the problem.

“It is being investigated and I think it has to do with late arrival or shortage of materials.

“The matter was resolved but a bit late. The community was saying we should reschedule the election in the affected unit to tomorrow, but we are looking at the best option,” he added.

INEC official arrested for fake ballot pappers and photocopied result sheets

The INEC team incharge of Awa ward was "escorted" to Ajali police station where the town led by its PG, stakeholders and party agents to petition the fraud plotted against electorates.

Over 4,000 ballot papers mysteriously missing and was signed as "collected" by the puppet used to hatchet this kukere plot.

Commercial and social activities on Friday remained normal in Awka, capital Anambra as the people of the state prepare to cast their votes in the governorship election scheduled for Nov. 18, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

A correspondent of NAN who visited some areas in the state capital reports that vehicular movement in and around the capital was also smooth.

NAN reports that the state government declared Nov. 17 work free day to enable workers travel to where they will exercise their civic responsibility during the election.

At various motor parks, there was also increased number of passengers to travelling to their various places where they registered to vote.

Mr Emenike Amalu, a supervisor at TRACAS Park, Unizik junction, however, said the park was yet to witness upsurge of passengers.

According to him, there is no significant difference in the movement of commuters between today and in the past in the park.

Amalu expressed the hope that passenger movement might increase later in the evening.

NAN also reports that there was no queues at the various filling stations NAN visited as motorists were seen purchasing fuel at normal price and with ease.

Mr Sunday Ajayi, the Sector Commander of FRSC in Anambra said the command expected an upsurge in traffic and had strategised to manage it effectively.

Ajayi, who promised that FRSC would play its role creditable toward ensuring easy movement of vehicles, before, during and after the election, urged the people to cooperate with the officials. (NAN)

The runaway leader of pro-secession group, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, has been dismissed and accused of fleecing the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Reports say he has been replaced with Mr. Ezenwachukwu Sampson Okwudili.

“Kanu privately collected £14 million and another $22 million to purchase landed properties abroad in his name and that of his father, Mr. Igwe Israel Kanu, in a clear case of monkey dey work baboon dey chop,’’ the accusation trailed.

“Kanu turned our collective struggle into a money-making enterprise for himself and his father,’’ Radio Biafra said.

The pirate radio of the groups which returned to air said that Kanu has also been sacked as the Director of the Radio.

The radio’s programme started with the lady announcer who gave her name as Miss. Ifeoma Okorafor.

She stated that the radio was back on air and IPOB was restructuring and announced the dismissal of Kanu.

Kanu has not been seen publicly since he fled Abia State after the military raided his family compound some months back.

The reasons the Radio Biafra announcer gave for Kanu’s removal included his alleged personalization of the Biafran struggle and derailing from the core objectives of IPOB as a grassroots movement.

He was also accused of inciting members of IPOB towards violence leading to the death of many innocent young people in Onitsha, Aba and Umuahia, an action IPOB said was “totally unacceptable and grossly irresponsible’’.

“Thus the monies contributed by enterprising and hard-working Igbo youths across the world are being collected and converted by one man and his father while pretending to be sacrificing for the cause.’’

Upon his release from detention in April 2017, IPOB explained that Kanu was expected to have moved for the release of his accomplices and co-detainees – Messers Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.

“These are our brothers who were arrested at the same time with him and they should not be forgotten. We hereby demand their release.

“Kanu, since his release, has never spoken about them or appealed for the release of these our freedom fighters. Instead, he has been going about collecting chieftaincy titles and having a messianic swagger that even allowed full-blooded Igbomen to kneel down and kiss his feet.

Sen. Stella Oduah (Anambra North) has urged the people of Anambra to come  en masse to vote in this Saturday’s governorship election to avoid creating a vacuum of governance in the state.

“Therefore if we fail to cast our votes, if we fail to come out to vote and have a new governor, what will happen is that the Federal Government will provide an administrator and declare a state of emergency,” she warned. “That is not what we want. It means that democracy will elude us, who is governing us would not be who we voted for or who we desired.”

“This is not about which party I belong to. It is about saving our state, it is about making sure that our youths, our women, our children have a peaceful and enabling environment where good governance and policies will strive. Therefore we must make sure that we come out on the 18th and vote,” she added.

“What Anambra needs now more than anything is peace, we need peace for progress, we need peace for security, we need peace for the development that is coming and that has come.

“We do not need violence, we have had enough killings, thank God we have security in Anambra more than most states, we must ensure that is sustained.

“We will be denying ourselves that if we fail to come out and vote and protect our votes.

“I am pleading that all leaders come out and tell their followers to ensure that they come out and vote come 18th of November.

“We must not stay at home on the 18th, we must exercise our civic rights,” she said.

There were rumours of bomb scare at the Anambra headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, following alleged discovery of a substance which looked like an improvised explosive device (IED).

A source who pleaded not to be named told DAILY POST that the device was detected by men of the anti-bomb squad of the Nigeria Police Force who combed the entire compound very early on Monday morning.

Our source said, “It was early this morning that I was trying to use that road, when police condoned it off. We were told that they found a device that looked like a bomb and had to stop everyone to so that they can diffuse the device.

Consequently, security has been beefed up at the premises.

When DAILY POST visited the compound, hordes of security operatives were seen, while visitors were subjected to full identification before entry.

The resident electoral commissioner REC, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, in his reaction said no bomb was detected.

He, however, admitted that a substance was picked outside the compound and could have been dropped by anyone.

Orji added that it was the duty of the police to verify the object.

State police public relations officer, Princess Nkeiruka Nwode, said she was not aware of the discovery.

She recalled that she stayed late into the night at INEC and was not privy to such.

Asked to comment on influx of bomb disposal unit experts at the INEC office, Nwode said it was part of preparations for the Saturday governorship election.

CP Umar Garba pleaded to call back when our correspondent reached him on phone.

He was yet to do so as at the time of filing this report.

Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi says the overwhelming performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last six years has silenced opposition parties in the state.

The governor, who declared the parties dead, spoke last week at the inauguration of chairmen of the 14 Local Governments (LGs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) who could not be sworn in with their colleagues in April due to legal impediment.

“It is in our interest to conduct elections; I have no doubt that we have performed very well as an administration. Our overwhelming performance has silenced the opposition in this state.



Governor Ajimobi was also confident the expected landslide victory of the ruling APC in the local government elections scheduled for the first quarter of 2018 would finally bury the opposition.

“Anytime we go into an election, we shall clear all by God’s grace. All other political parties have gone moribund; they are literally dead. Let us conduct the LG elections to bury them,” he said.

Seven Baales in Oyo community had approached an Abuja Federal High Court over the boundary demarcation that gave rise to some of the new LCDAs created by the governor in August 2016.

A pronouncement by the court had temporarily scuttled the ambition of the 14 new inaugurated chairmen, while it also caused a delay in the plan by the government to conduct local government polls within the four-month tenure of the chairmen that came on board in April.

Recently, the court had, however, vacated the order stopping the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from releasing the voters’ register to the State Independent Electoral Commission, thus, clearing the hurdle before the election.

Ajimobi said the reprieve had given the state the needed impetus to commence activities towards the conduct of the polls into the 33 LGs and 35 LCDAs, which he said would be another milestone in the era of his administration.

“Let me, therefore, tell you that your tenure will be for four months only. We will conduct an election before the end of your tenure.

“You are also free to contest, and this is an opportunity for you to perform very well and enhance your chances of being picked,” he advised the chairmen.



The governor said the inauguration, which held on November 9, was the concluding part of an episode that started in April when 53 chairmen were inaugurated into the LGs and LCDAs.

He urged the new chairmen to use the opportunity to bring development closer to the grassroots and asked them to eschew the temptation of using the opportunity for self-aggrandisement.

Ajimobi said political representation was no longer for loafers and jobbers but now solely for the promotion of the course of humanity.

Yakubu Galadima, lawyer to the whistleblower who pointed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the $43m, N23.2m and £27,800 found in an Ikoyi apartment has said his client may sue the Federal Government.

Why it matters:

The Federal Government had launched the whistleblower policy, which states that whistleblowers are entitled to 3% of loots they help recover.
EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu had recently stated that the Ikoyi loot whistleblower was already a millionaire and being counselled on how to spend his money.
The whistleblower however raised an alarm that he has not been paid his percentage.
In its response, the EFCC stated that it was not responsible for payment of rewards to whistleblowers.

In an interview on Saturday, Galadima said his client will sue the Federal Government for fraud if he does not get paid soon.


When asked if he would sue the government, he said, “That is one of the options but we have many options.”

He added, “Before now I had a discussion with Alhaji Lai Mohammed who directed me to speak with a lady in the office of the Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Tolu Kasali. I had a discussion with her and she told me that she would see what the government could do about it.

“My client’s concern is that time is of the essence. The guy wants to relocate from the country. There is no time and his life is in danger. He is jobless at the moment. He is not doing anything right now and in fact he is a burden on me.”

Mainz 05 defender, Leon Balogun has said it is an honour to wear the captain armband for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Balogun was Super Eagles captain in their final World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Algeria in Constantine on Friday.

The German-born defender wore the captain armband in the absence of regular captain, John Obi Mikel and his deputies Ogenyi Onazi and Elderson Echiejile as Nigeria ended their World Cup 2018 Qualifiers campaign with a 1-1 draw against Algeria in Constantine.

The 29 year old who made his international debut for the Super Eagles in 2014, praised the night’s goal scorer John Ogu and Ola Aina who made his full debut for Nigeria in the game.

He wrote on twitter, “Proud to have captained my country today and remain unbeaten at @FIFAWorldCup qualifiers.

The University of Lagos, Akoka, has become the first university in Nigeria to be granted a licence to operate a television station, an official has said.

Ralph Akinfeleye, a professor and Chairman of Unilag Radio and TV, stated this in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES on Friday.

The don confirmed that the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, granted the TV licence to the institution on Thursday, November 9.

He therefore invited members of the university community to the commissioning of the TV scheduled to hold on Saturday, November 11 at the Department of Mass Communication of the university.

Also in the press statement, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Rahman Bello, on behalf of the university management, congratulated members of staff, students and the entire university community on the milestone.

The Mass Communication department of Unilag also pioneered the first campus radio station in Nigeria.

A former Super Eagles player Godwin Okpara was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court for alleged battery on his wife of 25 years.

The ex-international was arraigned on one-count charge of wife battery contrary to Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.


The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police S. Imhonwa, told the magistrate, Mrs. B.O Osunsanmi, that Okpara, on many occasions caused his wife bodily injury through battering.

According to the prosecutor, Okpara sometime in August last year assaulted his wife by flogging her with a stick at their Ikeja GRA residence.

The ex-Super Eagles star, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum following an application by his lawyer, Malaki Odo.


Odo maintained that his client was innocent, vowing that “We shall prove our case during trial.”

The magistrate adjourned till January next year for further hearing.

After this unfortunate enounter, the singer has decided to slam a lawsuit of N500 million on the Hotel’s Management, LIB Reports.

Recall, in a statement made available by his record label, Graftin, the incident happened at about 11 PM on Sunday, October 22, 2017, during the Buckwyld and Breathless concert where he also performed.



The robbers, 4 in number, gained access into Mr. 2Kay’s room after he mistook one of them for room service. They forced their way into his room and waved a gun with threats to shoot him if he made a noise.

Mr. 2Kay, who was in the room with a friend, struggled with one of the robbers, as the others punched and hit him with a gun, repeatedly warning that they will shoot if he doesn’t calm down.

One of the robbers led and locked 2Kay’s friend in the bathroom, while the others tied the singer’s arms, legs and mouth and took his valuables including jewelry, clothes, perfumes, phones, and money. They also cut the room’s intercom (phone) to avoid any form of communication as they left the hotel.

Mr 2Kay sues Eko Hotel

The hotel authorities and police have taken statements for investigation, while Mr. 2Kay is getting medical attention for his wounds. “I was quite shocked when I got to Mr. 2Kay’s room last night.

This was somebody I watched perform some minutes before the incident. Anyway, the hotel authorities and police are already investigating the incident and we hope they’ll apprehend the criminals as soon as possible,” said James Silas, Manager of Grafton Records.

While Mr. 2Kay has declined to make any official statement on the issue, reports by LIB claims that the N500 million is expected to cover for his lost items, hospital bill and other damages that were not mentioned.

According to a source who spoke to LIB on the condition of anonymity, ‘Mr. 2Kay has vowed to to follow this lawsuit all the way, and he will not rest until he is fully compensated for his loss and damages’.

The source also said that the management of Eko Hotel has been served with the papers already and Police at the Bar Beach Station are still working round the clock to apprehend the culprits responsible for the attack.
