Politics / Dividing Anambra Through Zoning System. The Unconstitutional Political Principl by Anstalk(f): 1:14pm On Oct 10, 2017
DIVIDING ANAMBRA THROUGH ZONING SYSTEM.

The unconstitutional political principle call zoning

By:
I A Muoneme Esq

In 2013 when prominent Anambrarians like Prof Chukwuma Soludo CFR, Chief Patrick Chidolue, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, Prince Chinedu Idigo, Godwin Chukwunenye Ezeemo etc indicated interest to contest for Anambra Guber election, the then fmr Gov Peter Obi started the political hymn song of "Zoning" in Anambra base on the principle of imagination of equity and justice thereby succeeding in dividing Anambra like never before.

In Anambra I knew before the 2nd term of Peter Obi, there is nothing like someone is from Anambra North, Anambra South or Anambra Central. But right now the political assessment of anyone in Anambra is based on the zone one comes from. Is he from South or North or Central.

This will be used to determine your political loyalty, measurement and participation.

Can one classify this as a just political power play?

It is of common fact that the grand father of zoning in Anambra is fmr Gov Peter Obi with utmost sense of humility and respect to him anyway.
I hold Peter Obi to high esteem as a man who performed very well as a Governor but totally disagree with him on his politics of divide and rule. He should accept the fact that his style of politics is one of the major factor of political setback Anambra is being plunged into now.

Haven introduced Zoning and had a political fall out with the current Governor due to political mistakes and differences best known to them. Realizing that his politics of divide and rule will hunt him back, he swiftly made a U turn, telling us that his current candidate will stay for a term and go to give a breathing space to the south according to his divide and rule reasoning. What a political selfish reasoning! Caused by zoning!

However as I said earlier on my previous write up that is only a kindergarten political analyst will believe that imaginative statement.

Power is so sweet that people like Rochas told Ndi IMO this in 2011, likewise President Goodluck Jonathan to Nigerians.

Politics in Anambra should be measured on the yardstick of political performance through governance and not about which zone one is from and that.

Zoning has no constitutional place in our constitution and it is a tool which have succeeded in dividing and destroying the fabrics of our nation in Nigeria as one state thereby introducing leadership mediocrity in Nigeria. The same thing is about to happen in Anambra currently.

*Fmr Gov Donald Duke* said this morning on Channels Tv anchored by Maope Ogun on the issue of zoning:

“I have never subjected myself to zoning, when I ran for Governor I was not afforded zoning, everybody and everyone was able to run in Cross River.”
He further maintained that, “Besides its my constitutional right to run, you can’t zone my right, I think it’s unconstitutional to zone and besides like I said to you I was born a Nigerian, I wasn’t born an Easterner or Westerner, I was born after Independence. So my outlook is Nigerian.”Concluding, Mr. Donald said Nigeria was in dire straits and should jettison zoning and go for the best.

On this note, i rather vote the *BEST* candidate, I rather vote for Willie Obiano with my Voter's card when I'm convinced that he truly worked or Vote Godwin Ezeemo considering his investment and being manager of people which will serve as a yardstick to give him benefit of doubt or Vote Osita Chidoka considering his achievements as Road safety Marshall and Aviation Minister. I will also consider Oseloka Obaze judging his person and human friendly nature and other things. The same apply to Tony Nwoye.
But telling us to vote a candidate due to he is a northerner or Southerner or because it is our turn is like telling us to go down to politics of mediocrity smokescreen with equity and justice.

Considering the words of Donald Duke, I have this to say, I am an Anambra man before the thinking of being a southern Anambra.

Vote your candidate about the chances of what he has to offer the state and not on the principle of zoning. We should go for the best and jettison zoning.

Dalukwanu.

Travel / U.S., Suspend Turkey's Visa Services by Anstalk(f): 11:08am On Oct 09, 2017
(Reuters) - The U.S. mission in Turkey and subsequently the Turkish mission in Washington mutually scaled back visa services after a U.S. consulate employee was arrested in Turkey, in the latest sign of fraying diplomatic relations between the NATO allies.

Last week, the U.S. mission employee in Istanbul was arrested on charges of links to a cleric blamed for last year's failed coup, a move condemned by Washington as baseless.

"Recent events have forced the United States government to reassess the commitment of government of Turkey to the security of U.S. mission and personnel," the mission in Ankara said in a statement.

"In order to minimise the number of visitors to our embassy and consulates while this assessment proceeds, effective immediately we have suspended all non-immigrant visa services at all U.S. diplomatic facilities in Turkey.

The Turkish embassy in Washington followed suit, and made virtually the same statement, only replacing the country names.

The state-run Anadolu news agency identified the consulate employee as a male Turkish citizen and said he was arrested late on Wednesday on charges of espionage and attempts to damage the constitutional order and Turkey's government.

Turkey has expressed deep frustration over its so far fruitless calls for the United States to extradite Fethullah Gulen over a failed July 2016 coup, in which more than 240 people were killed. Gulen denies any involvement.

Thousands of people have been detained in a crackdown since the failed coup, including American Christian missionary Andrew Brunson, who ran a small church in Izmir on Turkey's western coast. The United States has said that Brunson has been wrongfully imprisoned and has called for him to be released.

Sports / Argentine Coach Plots Downfall Of Messi's Argentina by Anstalk(f): 10:44am On Oct 09, 2017
REUTERS - Argentine coaches working in South America have done their national team a few bad turns over the past two years and Jorge Celico could deny the twice champions and 2014 runners-up a place at the World Cup in Russia next year.

Celico, little known in his native Argentina, could help to dash the hopes of Lionel Messi's team if his Ecuador side deny them the win they need in their final qualifier on Tuesday in the tricky venue of Quito at high altitude in the Andes.

"Destiny put things in your path that you don't imagine," Celico was quoted as saying by Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports.

"I have a big commitment to the people of Ecuador, because I have done my (coaching career) here. Today I have to be thankful for that and do my best, as is right," he said when asked what it meant to face his country.

Argentina's current campaign, in stark contrast to the last World Cup cycle when they qualified comfortably and reached the final in Brazil, has been dogged by Argentine FA mismanagement, two changes of coach and poor results.

Gerardo Martino steered them to the Copa America final in 2015 but they lost on penalties to the Chile team managed by Argentine Jorge Sampaoli, who is now at Argentina's helm.

Chile were under Argentine-born former Spain striker Juan Antonio Pizzi when they stunned Argentina again a year later in the final of the Centenary Copa America in the United States, also on penalties after another 0-0 draw.

That result promoted Messi to quit international football, fearing he might be responsible for his country's jinx.

Martino also quit but Messi came back under new coach Edgardo Bauza, although the team did not improve and he was replaced by Sampaoli.

Meanwhile, Peru were beginning to rediscover the sort of form that saw them reach three World Cups between 1970 and 1982, their last, under Argentine coach Ricardo Gareca.

Peru held Argentina to a 0-0 draw in Buenos Aires on Thursday that left Sampaoli's team in sixth place in the 10-nation South American group, out of the qualifying places for Russia.

The top four qualify automatically and the fifth-placed side go into an intercontinental playoff against Oceania winners New Zealand.

A bad omen is that Argentina began their qualifying campaign with a shock 2-0 home loss to Ecuador two years ago when they were coached by Argentine Gustavo Quinteros.

Health / Young Girl Spotted With New Deadly Monkey Pox Disease In Kaduna. (photos) by Anstalk(f): 5:31am On Oct 09, 2017
A Facebook user with the name, Daniel Igoche, has raised an alarm after meeting a little girl with the symptom of the dreaded Monkey pox virus in Kaduna state.

Daniel says the little girl has only been treated with traditional roots and herbs due to financial constraint – He calls on the Kaduna state authorities to look into the matter before it gets out of hand.

So far, a total of twelves persons have been reportedly quarantined in Bayelsa state after the first case of suspected monkeypox infection was reported some days back. The virus later spread to the neighbouring state of Rivers.

Nigerians are required to always wash their hands, avoid monkeys, bush meats, and dead animals as well as be on the lookout for symptoms which often manifests as various stages of rash and an intense weakness of the body, severe pains, among other things.

Samples from suspected victims in Bayelsa and Rivers have been sent to the World Health Organisation, WHO, laboratory in Dakar, Senegal for confirmation.

Politics / Senator Abaribe: "Signing Nnamdi Kanu’s Bail Put Us In Trouble" by Anstalk(f): 6:55am On Oct 08, 2017
Biafra Agitation Stopped Bulk Sale/Export Of Made-In-Aba Products

Leader of Southeast caucus in the National Assembly, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has explained that those who signed the bail bond for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of proscribed IPOB, from detention are now in trouble.

Abaribe also stressed that as a result of agitations by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra for a separate state of Biafra, bulk selling and export of Made-In -Aba products have been hampered drastically.

Abaribe, who represents Abia South senatorial district, made the disclosures last night in New York, U.S.A, while speaking at the Made-In-Aba Products Fashion Show held as part of the 2017 Convention of Abia State National Association of North America (ASNA) at Hilton Hotel JFK, New York.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, was represented on the occasion by his deputy, Mr. Ude Oko Chukwu.

The Senator noted that bulk buyers and exporters of the products stopped coming to Aba due to security risks posed by Biafra agitation and the Operation Python Dance 11 undertaken by the Nigerian Army in the Southeast, which effects he said, hit Abia State the most.

He said: “I am a Nigerian Senator and not that of Biafra. We had advised Kanu, reminding him that his rights end where those of others begin. We are now in trouble, because we do not know where he is and how to contact him. Those that support Kanu’s agitation should think twice.”

Riding on his acclaim as ‘Made-In-Aba Senator’ Abaribe urged the people to be pragmatic and realistic, stressing that “we should trust that our leaders, both elected and not elected can get the best for us.

“We think we need Biafra, but this Biafra should be that of the mind that represents our ingenuity and our innate quality for hard work and enterprise, especially as oil proceeds keep dwindling.

“Igbo are largest and highest investors in the country, contributing to the development of wherever they reside and operate. In Lagos alone, we have built and developed about ten different markets from which over N3b are generated on daily basis.”

Politics / Osinbajo- APC Is On A Revolutionary Mission by Anstalk(f): 6:23pm On Oct 07, 2017
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says the All Progressives Congress (APC) is on a revolutionary mission to salvage Nigeria from its challenges.

Professor Osinbajo, however, admitted that the task is a difficult one but the party is doing all it can to fix the country.

“Let me say first of all that APC is a revolutionary party – we have come to do so many things that are revolutionary,” he said during an interview with Channels Television’s political correspondent, Seun Okinbaloye, in Abuja on Thursday.

“Now that process by itself will be a difficult process; there is no way you are going to fix a car with the engine running and that’s what we are doing. We’ve got to fix this car (this Nigeria) with the engine running, it’s a difficult task but we are committed.”

The Vice President further identified corruption as the major problem deterring the smooth development of the country.

He was hopeful that if the menace can be tackled squarely, Nigeria would reclaim its true status in the comity of nations, especially as the giant of Africa.

“In my view, the existential problem we have is corruption. If we can deal with that governance issue, if we can deal with that corruption issue, this country will fly and that’s what we are trying to do.”

Professor Osinbajo, who was optimistic the APC would win the 2019 presidential election, described President Muhammadu Buhari as an honest president.

He said the fact that the president has not been accused of corrupt practices indicates that the country is on the right path to development.

He said, “We have an honest president, that’s a very important thing.”

“If you have a president who is honest, who is straightforward, who at least we can say is not taking a bribe, is not stealing resources – that is a major part of this whole revolution.”

Politics / Flood Hits INEC Headquarters In Edo (Photo) by Anstalk(f): 5:12pm On Oct 07, 2017
Sensitive Materials and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by flood at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters in Edo State.

Following an early morning rain which lasted for about two in Benin City, the state capital, INEC officials attributed the flood to the collapse of a fence between their premises and the Federal High Court.

According to INEC officials, the flood was a result of a heavy rain which lasted for about two hours on Saturday in Benin City, leading to the collapse of a fence between their premises and the Federal High Court.

In an interview with Channels Television, the Administrative Secretary of INEC in Benin City, Lebari Sam-Nduh, blamed the flood on a road construction and the poor drainage system in the area.

He said, “Water entered the critical store of the Commission where our laptops and our smart card readers are all stored, all just because the fence adjoining the Federal High Court fell and because of the construction at Lucky Way.

“All the waters there have now been diverted to this place and as you can see that the drainage here is not adequate to carry the water. So, the fence fell under the weight of the water.”

Sam-Nduh, however, appealed to relevant agencies in the state and the Federal Ministry of Work, as well as the National Emergency Management Agency to come to their aid.

“It’s a tragedy that has befallen us and we call on the Federal Ministry of Works and the state government that embarked on the construction of both the highway and Lucky Way Road to quickly come to our aid to see what can be done,” he said.

Health / NAFDAC Staff Commence Indefinite Strike by Anstalk(f): 1:26pm On Sep 22, 2017
The Medical and Health Workers Union chapter of National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has commenced indefinite strike.

The Union said they are embarking on the industrial action to push for improved welfare package and for the management of the agency to implement an agreement reached on welfare package in 2013.

Addressing members on Friday, Vice President of the Union, Idu Isua, disclosed that both the management and the union signed an agreement to review its welfare package in 2013 but the terms of agreement are yet to be complied with.

Isua said, “we resolved that funds be drawn from our Internally Generated Revenue to finance the upward reviewed package of staff but to our greatest surprise, nothing was done since then.

“When we came on board as union in 2013, we took a look at the allowances of staff and discovered it was low compared with other agencies that we enjoy same salary scale with.”

Isua said the union had complained to the Ministry of Health and NAFDAC management, “but up till today, nothing has been done.”

“The strike was not a fresh one because we took same action two years ago and last year and based on agreement reached, the strike was suspended.

“However, nothing was done on our salary review up till now,” Isua added.

On Tuesday, Ubah announced his decision to file a suit against the outcome of the governorship primaries that produced Oseloka Obaze as the party’s candidate for the Anambra election slated for November 18.

“I will be approaching the court to determine the legality or otherwise of the PDP primary in the state”, Ubah told newsmen.

“The election is fraudulent and it is illegal. However, we will allow the court to determine whether the party has the right to trample on its own constitution and the Electoral Act.

“The list of delegates used for the election was different from the list of delegates given to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“The commission supervised delegates’ election and the party submitted the names of the delegates. But my party manufactured new names and lists a day to the primary.

”The election was a show of shame as it was marred by obvious irregularities, leaving little to be desired and more questions than answers from the relevant authorities and party officials.”

Recall that PDP Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi, recently warned members against going to court for the resolution of grievances.

He vowed that the party will sanction such persons, stressing that members must learn to take advantage of the internal mechanisms within the party in settling disputes.

“The party will take a very hard stand on any party member who is in a hurry to go to court without exhausting all the avenues available in the party for grievances to be heard and to be addressed accordingly,” he said.

“PDP is one family. At this stage it is not one side versus the other side; the only side that we’ll say is against us is anybody that may be taking us to court. Then, we will know you are against PDP.

“But if you are not, and you have accepted the Supreme Court judgment no matter your views and opinions, then we are one family.”

Politics / Operation Python Dance: Army Withdraws From Abia by Anstalk(f): 7:42pm On Sep 17, 2017
Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia has expressed gratitude to God for averting bloodbath in the state, following the withdrawal of troops deployed to Abia for a one-month military exercise code-named “Operation Python Dance.”

Ikpeazu made the remark on Sunday when he visited the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abia council to commiserate with journalists over last Tuesday’s invasion of the secretariat by soldiers.

The governor noted that the presence of the troops sparked tension across the state.

He said “we are grateful to God for intervening in stopping what could have been the greatest bloodbath known in the history of mankind.”

He also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for reposing confidence in Southeast Governors’ Forum, “by giving us a second chance to talk to our people on the need for us to live as one united nation.”

He added that the Igbos remained the most widely travelled people in Nigeria, living and conducting businesses in every nook and cranny of the country.

The governor put the estimated population of Igbos in the north at about 12 million, with Borno having the least population of about 50,000 Igbo households.

He said Abia needed peace for business to thrive, especially in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the state.

Politics / BREAKING: Aisha Alhassan Arrives Aso Rock For FEC Meeting by Anstalk(f): 11:47am On Sep 13, 2017
Amid controversy of her support for ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Alhassan, has arrived the Presidential Villa, Abuja for the weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting.

Alhassan, popularly called Mama Taraba arrived Aso Rock at 10:45 a.m. for the meeting scheduled to start by 11:00am.

Barring any last minute change, today’s FEC meeting will be presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that Alhassan had recently drew up a line of controversy when she publicly declared her support for former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2019 election.

Alhassan had given the reason for her support on the fact that Buhari had, prior to the presidential election told the All Progressives Congress, APC, that he would only rule for one term.

Travel / Brexit: Juncker’s State Of The Union Address by Anstalk(f): 9:14am On Sep 13, 2017
Watch live: Juncker’s State of the Union address

What could the future of Europe look like?

Last year President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker used his annual speech to admit Europe was at a crisis point. “Do we want to let our Union unravel before our eyes?” he asked parliament. “Or do we say: Is this not the time to pull ourselves together?” One year on, how will he assess the state of the union? What could the future of Europe look like?

Every September the head of the commission uses this moment to take stock of the year and to lay out the goals for the months to come.

Education / ASUU Silent On Meeting To Consider Fg’s Offers by Anstalk(f): 7:54am On Sep 11, 2017
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said it will not disclose when it will hold its meetings to consider the Federal Government’s offers, aimed at resolving the ongoing strike.

The ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said this on Sunday while responding to our correspondent’s inquiry as to when the union would meet to examine the Federal Government’s offers and resolve the strike.

The union and the Federal Government’s delegation held a 14-hour meeting on Thursday, after which they issued a communiqué, in which ASUU was asked to revert to the government within one week.

The ASUU President had on Friday said in an interview that he could not determine when the union would call off its strike until its members met to decide the next course of action.

This is also as the National Association of Nigerian Students on Saturday promised to meet the ASUU executives and consider the government’s offers with a view to ending the strike.

The NANS spokesperson, Bestman Okereafor, had said this in a statement released in Enugu State.

When contacted to comment on when the union would meet to consider the government’s positions, the ASUU President said in a text message, “Good morning. Sorry. We don’t tell outsiders the arrangements of our meetings. Have a great Sunday.”
