According to the police, the tribunal secretary said he was with two other officials when the incident occurred.

The Secretary to the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, David Mike, said gunmen carted away the petitions of four parties challenging the electoral victory of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Usman Ododo, in the November 11, 2023 poll.

This was according to the spokesperson for the police in the state, William Aya.

In a statement on Wednesday, Aya said Mike reported to the police that he was attacked on Monday by some armed men while heading to his office at the High Court Complex in Lokoja, the state capital.

The tribunal secretary said he was with two other officials when the incident occurred.

“All of them (gunmen) surrounded and blocked him (Mike) as he attempted to reverse,” the police said in their statement.

“That he saw about seven hooded men all heavily armed and dressed in black attire who shot severally into the air and dragged him and his two other colleagues out of their car, ransacked the car and made away with all the documents including Petitions filed by four (4) Parties namely Action Alliance (AA), Action People’s Party (APP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP)/two (2) Record Books/a Bag containing his personal items.”

The police said an investigation into the incident has been ordered by the Commissioner of Police in the state.

Gunmen had last Friday attacked the residence of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, in the state, Gabriel Longpet.

The State House has earmarked N9.5bn for the purchase of tyres for bulletproof vehicles, Sport Utility Vehicles, operational vehicles, plain cars and the construction of an office complex for Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants.

Out of the sum, N2bn was earmarked for the replacement of SUV vehicles, N4 bn for the purchase of State House operational vehicles, N351m for the purchase of tyres for bulletproof vehicles, plain cars, jeeps, ambulances and N3.5bn for the construction of office complex for SAs and SSAs.

The details are contained in the 2024 Appropriation Bill released by the Budget Office of the Federation on Wednesday.

The PUNCH reports that the budget was presented by President Bola Tinubu to a joint session of the National Assembly on November 29.

Tinubu had christened the appropriation bill the ‘Budget of Renewed Hope.

The PUNCH reports that the Tinubu-led administration has continued to come under fire following what experts have tagged as “frivolous spending” by the political class amidst the hardship currently being experienced by Nigerians following the removal of fuel subsidy.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the proposed 2024 Appropriation Bill under review by the National Assembly has an allocation of N15.961 billion for international and domestic travel expenses for Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and their aides.

Tinubu’s travel budget amounts to N7.630bn, predominantly earmarked for foreign trips with N6.992bn designated for international travels and N638.535m set aside for domestic travel.

Shettima’s travel allowance is proposed at N1.847bn, split between N1.229bn for foreign trips and N618.399m for local travels.

A Twitter user has taken to his page to make a comparison between the wives of Afrobeat artist Davido and his assistant, Isreal DMW.

Recall that Isreal DMW and his estranged wife, Sheila made headlines after they took to their page to drag each other over what caused their marriage to fail.

Reflecting on the current incident, a Twitter user identified as Shadaya Knight disclosed that the wife of Isreal DMW divorced him even though he didn’t have a record of domestic abuse, no cheating allegations, and no baby mamas.
