The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Sunday, facilitated the extradition of Samuel Ogoshi and his brother, Samson, to the United States for sexually extorting several young men and teenage boys.

The victims were located in the Western District of Michigan and across the U.S., a statement by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said Monday.

The commission, in May 2023, initiated the extradition proceedings at the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division.

The Ogoshi brothers alongside one Ezekiel Ejemeh Robert were accused of exploitation of minors and production of pornography, following a request by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

“The Ogoshis and Ezekiel were indicted in a United States Federal Court on December 1, 2022, on charges of exploitation of minors, resulting in death, conspiracy to sexually exploit minors by causing the minors to produce child pornographic images that the defendants now use to blackmail them,” the statement read.

They are further charged with conspiracy to distribute child pornography, which borders on sending images to minors, their families and friends, as well as conspiracy to commit stalking through the Internet.

The offences carry a minimum of five years and maximum 20 years imprisonment, the EFCC said.

Specifically, Samuel was charged with causing the death of 17-year-old Jordan DeMay of Marquette, Michigan, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in March 2022.

According to investigations, the suspects conspired to conduct sex-based extortion of minors and adults in the United States of America.

The trio allegedly hacked some social media accounts, posing to be young attractive women to entice unsuspecting victims to send their sexually explicit photographs.

These pictures were then used to blackmail the victims, thereby forcing them into making huge financial payments.

While the Ogoshis were arrested sometime in February 2023 around the Ojo axis of Lagos, Robert was picked up in Nasarawa by operatives of the EFCC.

The extradition of the third defendant, Robert, is, however, still pending.

Meanwhile, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan Mark Totten, on Sunday, announced the extradition in a statement by the United States Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Michigan.

“Sextortion is a horrible crime. To those who commit these crimes: we will pursue you around the world. And to those who are victims: please know we stand ready to help you,” Totten said.

“I am extremely pleased with how swiftly extradition efforts moved forward and am grateful to the FBI and our Nigerian law enforcement partners for their unyielding work to secure justice in this international sexual exploitation investigation.”

In a similar vein, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Michigan Devin J. Kowalski described financial sextortion as a global crisis that impacts teens in the U.S. and around the world.

“As this case demonstrates, the FBI is committed to working closely with our domestic and international law enforcement partners to prevent young men and women from becoming victims of this tragic crime,” Kowalski said.

The coup leaders who toppled Bazoum said late Sunday they had gathered evidence enabling them to prosecute Bazoum for "high treason and undermining the internal and external security of Niger."

The West African bloc ECOWAS on Monday lashed threats by Niger’s military rulers to prosecute ousted president Mohamed Bazoum, saying this contradicted the regime’s declared willingness to resolve the crisis peacefully.

The coup leaders who toppled Bazoum said late Sunday they had gathered evidence enabling them to prosecute Bazoum for “high treason and undermining the internal and external security of Niger.”

This, it said, was based on “contacts” Bazoum had had with “nationals… foreign heads of state… (and) officials in international organisations.”

In a statement on Monday, ECOWAS said it had learned of the threats “with stupefaction”.

“It represents yet another form of provocation and contradicts the reported willingness of the military authorities in the Republic of Niger to restore constitutional order through peaceful means,” the bloc said.

Bazoum, 63, and his family have been held at the president’s official residence since the coup, with international concern mounting over his conditions in detention.

CrimeAbuja House On The Rock Pastor, Aigbe Charged With Unlawful Possession Of AK-47 by Antoeni(op): 4:59pm On Aug 10, 2023
A Chief Magistrate Court in the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abuja has ruled that the Presiding Pastor of the House On The Rock Church, Uche Aigbe has a criminal case to answer in the case of unlawful possession of an AK-47 rifle.

SaharaReporters had reported that Aigbe caused a stir on Sunday, February 12, 2023, when he mounted the pulpit carrying an AK-47 rifle.

Aigbe had said, “Some people are looking for my trouble. And I came here prepared. Today, there are some pastors with the gift of divination who go about ripping people off. This is why we should carry our “guns” and defend ourselves. I will particularly be coming very soon for some of you sleeping in the church.”

He was subsequently arrested and detained by the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Police Force, insisting that he had questions to answer.

The police had charged Aigbe, Promise Ukachukwu, and Olakunle Ogunleye with criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of a prohibited firearm, inciting disturbance, and criminal intimidation.

They pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecution counsel, Assistant Police Commissioner, Mr James Idachaba, had informed the court that the defendants got the firearm from Inspector Musa Audu, attached to Wuye Division.

He was reportedly on guard duty at the church.

He added that the defendants used the firearm for an illustration while preaching a sermon about faith in the church.

The prosecution counsel alleged that the defendants made inciting and intimidating statements to the church congregation that could cause alarm and breach of peace.

The offence, he said, is punishable under Section III of the Firearms Act CAP F28, LFN 2004, and contravened Section 97, 114, and 397 of the Penal Code.

However, according to Daily Post, a Chief Magistrate Court in the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abuja on Thursday ruled that the pastor has a criminal case to answer in the unlawful possession of prohibited firearms found in his possession.

The no-case submission made by the pastor was dismissed by Chief Magistrate Abubakar Ismail on the ground that the objection to trial lacked merit and substance.

In a brief ruling on Thursday at Zuba, Magistrate Ismail held that from the totality of the evidence so far adduced, the defendant has been effectively linked with the charges preferred against him by police.

Nigeria and most of Africa are not ready for democracy, we need a sympathetic but firm dictatorship.. we have become greedy, naturally rude, uncouth, indisciplined, corrupt, fakely religious, clever fools.. we need a change, someone who will firstly, stand up to the West, the Eastern threats, change our mentality, instill discipline, re-educate, nurture, rebuild and unite..

I think rebellion is brewing across West Africa. If care is not taken, we may wake and hear that the military has taken over Cameroon, too.
A new generation of Africans are, perhaps, seeking to pick up from where the assassinated heroes of African independence stopped. Nigeria, I believe, chose to change the system via elections but got side-tracked by the corruptiion-riddled powers. Everyone is holding their breath and waiting for the tribunal. I fear what might happen if an unsatisfactory judgment is given.
Foreign AffairsI Was Forced To Eat Dry Rice — Ousted Niger President, Bazoum by Antoeni(op): 4:37pm On Aug 10, 2023
Ousted President of Niger Republic, Muhammad Bazoum in a text message to a trusted friend which was made public said, “I’m being kept isolated and forced to eat dry rice”.

It be recalled, after the coup that overthrew his government on July 26, 2023, Bazoum has been held by the military junta.

The military had refused to reinstall him back to power in spite of several appeals by ECOWAS.

Instead, the military junta decided to cut diplomatic ties with Nigeria, Togo, US, and France.

In a text message to a friend quoted by CNN, Bazoum said he had been “deprived of all human contact” since Friday, with no one supplying him food or medicine.

The Nigerien embattled leader, also said he has been living without electricity for a week, though a normal occurrence for all Nigeriens after Nigeria cut off electric power in response to the coup.

Bazoum said all of the perishable food he was supplied with has since gone bad, and he is now eating dry pasta and rice.

Despite his isolation, Bazoum has been in contact with the outside world.

Though denied the chance to speak with acting US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland during her visit to Niamey, the Nigerien capital, on Monday, Bazoum spoke with Secretary of State Antony Blinken, on the phone.
