Just See How Festus Keyamo Allowed Greedy Dubious & Fraudulent Politicians to Destroy His Noble Career As One of Nigeria Young Finest Lawyer |
Festus Keyamo, the former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, has dismissed reports that he collected bribes from job seekers during his tenure in office. Keyamo made the denial on Monday while speaking during the ministerial screening on the floor of the Senate, chaired by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. The ministerial nominee from Delta State said he didn’t benefit from the Public Works Programme during his tenure at the Ministry of Labour and Employment in the Muhammadu Buhari administration. Keyamo emphatically stated that the record of the beneficiaries of the N52bn Public Works scheme which was requested by the 9th Senate is domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and can be downloaded to ease accessibility to verify the information as provided. The former minister, therefore, apologized to the Senate for any misunderstanding surrounding the obscurity of information around the fund disbursement. Earlier, some lawmakers during the screening challenged Keyamo for refusing to honour invites by various committees in the 9th Senate and 9th House of Representatives led by Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila respectively. Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe in his petition charged the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to suspend Keyamo’s screening until he acknowledged that the Senate can summon and question any Minister and his/her Ministry. The development eventually saw lawmakers in the Senate proceed into closed-door plenary after a rowdy session. Upon resumption of the screening, Keyamo apologised to lawmakers for his actions and was later screened and confirmed. https://www.reubenabati.com.ng/news/keyamo-denies-collecting-bribes-for-employment

Tinubu The Talk Before Thinking President, ECOWAS Members State Mumu Sha, For Appointing Someone Who Can't Put His House in Order |
There has been anxiety in Nigerian communities bordering the Republic of Niger, that is in the Northern region where about seven states border the country. Nigerians of Southeast extraction who live in the Niger Republic have protested against the proposed military action against coup leaders in Niger by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) led by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. The ECOWAS had given the Niger coup plotters led by General Abdourahamane Tchiani, seven days to return power to President Mohammed Bazoom or face military action. ECOWAS has also imposed sanctions on Niger, including halting all financial transactions and freezing its national assets while the Nigerian government has cut off electricity supply to the country. The one-week ultimatum expired on Sunday but the Niger military leaders have remained adamant as they have cut ties with Nigeria, France and some other countries while warning that any military action against them will amount to a full-blown war. There has been anxiety in Nigerian communities bordering the Republic of Niger, that is in the Northern region where about seven states border the country. Reacting to the proposed military invasion, the Southeastern Nigerians popularly known as Igbo living in Niger called on Tinubu and ECOWAS to jettison the idea of military action against Niger military junta. In a viral video, they have good relationship with their host country and therefore, don't want any action that would affect their lives and livelihoods in Niger. "We don't want war in the Niger Republic. We are living in peace with the people here. We will do a demonstration round. We want peace," some of them were heard speaking in Igbo in the video. The Nigerian Senate has also rejected Tinubu's proposal for military invasion in Niger and advised him and ECOWAS to explore diplomatic means to resolve the political issue https://saharareporters.com/2023/08/08/igbos-niger-republic-protest-against-proposed-military-action-tinubu-led-ecowas

The Northern Nigeria Will Always Take The Lead in This |
The relentless increase in violent attacks on farmers by armed groups is adversely contributing to the worsening food crisis in Nigeria, with 700,000 children at the brink of death due to hunger, says Save the Children. Armed groups have killed over 128 farmers and kidnapped 37 others across the country in the first six months of 2023, leading to disruption and displacement of livelihoods. In Borno alone, 19 farmers were killed by non-state armed groups in June alone, according to Nigerian Security Tracker, according to a statement by Save the Children, noting that all these factors have hindered critical food supplies and may push Nigeria into a serious food crisis this year. A farmer with 35 years of experience in the North-East, identified only as Bulama, said, “On different occasions where we will be in the field farming, armed groups have attacked and kidnapped farmers who are our friends and brothers, requesting ransom most times it’s an amount no villager can afford.” The farmer added, “They have killed and stolen our farm produce, leaving us helpless and with nothing to take home. The hunger and starvation most of us suffer in this community are because insurgents deprive us of accessing the farmlands, and even when we risk our lives in our fields, they steal everything and allow us to starve.” According to an estimation by the United Nations in January, more than 25 million Nigerians could face food security in 2023 alone, a 47 per cent increase from the 17 million people who were already at risk of starvation due to insecurity and conflict. In three North-East states (Borno, Adamawa and Yobe), more than two million children under five are at risk of acute malnutrition, and 700,000 are on the brink of death in 2023 alone. https://gazettengr.com/700000-nigerian-children-to-die-due-to-acute-hunger-report/
