Alright, here is where i'm at so far. This is the lilo.conf file:

**********************************************************************
# /etc/lilo.conf - See: `lilo(cool' and `lilo.conf(5)',

Vexxy, tell what you know. On the real. Don't hold back. If i didn't want to read then i would not have asked. If you think it may be of inappropriate length, write a report and email it to me rolleyes grin. No, seriously. It is amazingly hard to get good intel from multiple cities on critical issues like this. I take it when i can get it. I'm lucky that this forum has serious individuals capable of serious analysis.

I have additional questions, but let me know if i'm too nosey. cool
1 In your opinion, what is the root of the high crime rate.
2 Considering your personal history with gentrification, how has it impacted your views of real estate. Have you thought about investing in it, or do you avoid it.
3 What are your thoughts on non-black merchants in shop keeps in each of the areas you are capble of recalling?

Hope i didn't ask too much of your time! wink

You basically hit the nail on the head. There is no way (that i know of) to access a linux partition if the mbr is hosed so therefore, you have to use a bootCD to access and repair that install. Correct? I'll try your method as soon as i get back and i'll let you know how it turns out. I think you figured out what i was asking after a while.

As far as the files, the permission settings won't allow me to access them from knoppix. I was asking for a workaround since i know the login password. And i just figured it out. Man... it has been awhile; i have become so "gui-centric".

get this man to a terminal!, NOW!!! grin grin

Alright, thanks for the help! don't worry bout the 2nd '?'.

Yall are really fired up! cheesy As time goes on, yes, Broadband over powerline will be perfect in major metropols. Still, might want to consider fiber for your backbones, tho. Also, for rural coverage, FLASH OFDM is definately something to look into along with WiMAX. I really don't see why you guys can't put together your own top notch telecom infrastructure and leave all these middle men out the picture. What are these MTN guys using, CDMA? Dial-up is really passe... Now you might say I am only saying that because i'm in the Snakes (i mean States wink), but the tech is available, cheap, and the dividends of MTN can easily be drafted by you guys if you know how to move. PLay your cards right, and you guys can get all of West Africa on lock as far as IT goes. That's an area I plan to invest heavily in.

Here are some links:

The thing to watch for is that the trail was a total success. Nextel really had no choice but to adopt since it had made a bad network infrastructure decision before, never mind the success of the trail. Then, out the blue, sprint comes in and snaps up nextel. Sprint has already invested in its CDMA network... so to migrate to a OFDM network..... wouldn't be good for them. They are also one of the major telecoms in the nation. I stand by the hypothesis that major players DO NOT want this technology deployed because:
1) Small timers over here will be able to get in, develope a niche market, and expand the f*ck out of it, eventually threatening local market leaders across mulitple sectors including wireless providers, land line providers, and cable providers
2) they want to keep it on the low low, as we tend say. With the range Flarion is quoting (and the trial proved) along with the bandwidth, and the relatively low cost of the equipment, this tech is poised to become a major leap frog technology.

One thing, tho. If it stays on the low, Flarion could keep a lock on the specs of the equipment and charge a premium. However, i don't know how successful the japan trials were with vodaphone. If it did alright over there, then most certainly the japs are ready to get their hands on the hardware and to start putting it in production.

The Conscious Rasta, Kiedi Obi Awadu, had almost a two hour discussion on this tech about four months ago on LIB Radio's Wednesday Night Tech Talk (yours truly also contributed a small bit). You can go here to order a CD of that archived show: http://www.libradio.com/product2.htm It's item number (LIBCD1215).

Also, don't concern yourself with being labeled "pirates". Yeah, hardcore coders and devs will use the open source but everybody else needs the 'doze. Use Bit torrent with a good proxy and be sure to send that stuff home. Just don't try to sell it tongue tongue. My concern is that the students (especially engineering) in the nigerian universities are not getting hands experience with top tier software like AutoCad and AutoDesk Inventer. Also, don't sleep on the number of digital textbooks you can find, also. The minute we get caught up with this whole "stealing" software concept, we set ourselves up for total failure. By the way, just illustrate the point, how did we, american blacks, end up over here? They stole us. Realize everything the yt got, they got because they stole something else. That's a fact and hopefully not an issue of debate.

Holla, My Peoples!

sorry i had edit:
All of this is nice and dandy but if you don't have power... then you don't have a party. In tangent with these technologies, solar in going to have to major major investment. I have always envisioned communites with a hydrogen cell implementation. Generates power, and water. That's what i'm studying now. Rule #2 Gidoff the frecking grid, maaannn!!!

Okay, Now Holla!
TV/Movies / Re: Nigeria has a Satellite in Orbit! (NigeriaSat-1) by anton(m): 1:04am On Oct 19, 2005
Very, very cool. However. I see it was lauched in russia. Where was it fabricated? Did Nigerian hands take any part in crafting it? Better yet, are nigerian students placing themselves in strategic positions at the major us companies that construct these vehicles? Work there for a couple of years, master a particular aspect of construction, then bring all that intellectual capital back home so africans can 'handle they biz'?

Just having the ability to *purchase* is nothing. Even processing an image is nothing too critical. Blind consumption is not very powerful, although the arguments posed by Tobi are reality based. But to really compete with these companies that specialize in geospatial tech and docs, you really got to be on your toes and not be above corp o rate esp i a nage to catch up and even the playing field.

@Tobi
Tobi:

I had the priviledge of seeing one of the first imageries processed at Abuja showing a part of Lagos and i was really glad to note that we can now produce such wonders at home.

My question is 'Are you really producing it?' Are you speaking of the image or the vehicle? Really, just getting an image is nothing. Constructing the vehicle is the real engineering wonder. Let's not even speak of putting it in orbit. But, it is something we must have the ability to fathom and began to work on soon. Don't get me wrong. You seem to be fairly astute, but i must say; The First thing Nigerians should be saying is "We can do this by ourselves", so why are we paying these people?

So the guys that argued against your position kinda had a point. Alot of mouths will be fed when Nigeria becomes the Aerospace Capital of the Africa. I hope you all see exactly where i'm coming from.

I understand this is a mile stone to have the infrastructure neccesary to communicate with a high altitude vehicle, but the real work has yet to be done.

If the vehicle was fabricated in the united snakes (i mean states), you do understand that those companies basically are the military industrial complex? Therefore, if they(us military, petro corps, etc, etc) need it to go offline at anytime, it will go offline. Something really to think about. The rumors over here are... discomforting.
Computers / Re: Linux or Windows Operating System? by anton(m): 12:01am On Oct 19, 2005
Aw, man! Yall some st8 gurus up in here! See, thats what i be talkin bout...

I just got finished reading the whole thread and i am impressed. This is probably the first time i have been on an all black forum with threads this lively about computers and info tech. Wow. I love it.

Right now my desktop is winXP(no service packs), i use rainmeter to keep track of sys resource. I big into bittorrent so thats all my bigbox does. My laptop is winXP sp2 dual boot with fedora core 1. Thats where i do all of my real work. I code only in Emacs (sometimes NEdit) so my linux partition is critical.

I decided to install windows server for some stupid reason or another. Oh, well, doop di do, time rolls on, i wipe out the server2003 and noticed xp just boots right up... server2003 blasted the mbr. now i have a coding projects that are backing up and i need my old files. So 2 questions:

1) What is the safest way to reinstall lilo, using knoppix 3.8.2

2) let's say i just want to recover the files, but how do i access them with knoppix (the permission settings wont allow the simple method)

Anyway, you guys rock. Keep it up! cool grin

Now tis is very interesting. I'm gon check those links after i finish this.

But check this out: Isn't true it that US companies get all the circuit boards and logic devices form east asian countries because the asians can do cheaper than over workers in the states; ie they have a very inexpensive labor base?
Nairaland / General / Re: Anton: New And Eager To Learn About My Family by anton(m): 3:51am On Oct 18, 2005
@vexxy
yeah, you really had to be in certain circles to have found out about the event before hand. Positive Kemetic Visions is staged in DC and i think a major UNIA-ACL Chapter is also in that area. DC is live with elements that are extreamly progressive. Do you stay down-town or in the burbs? I would like to hear your views on the gentrification of the downtown area.

But anyway, there was hardly any mainstream marketing of the event outside of the amerikkkan black constituancy. I do know of some Family members from the UK that made plans to attend, namely Sparticus of GAP Radio, http://www.globalafrica.com/, but i don't know how many of them made the trip. I am also unaware of any Africans from the Continent who attended, but that could change when reports start coming in.

If you wish to network with some committed individuals and organizations, then try to make contact with Positive Kemetic Visions. Check this link out http://www.ag-east.org/community/images/PKVScheduleofEvents.jpg Also Bother Senghor Jawara Baye-El http://www.ag-east.org/2004/Senghor.htm can answer can ask just about any question you might have... on anything!!!. I am sure he would enjoy and see the value of networking with you and your circle.

In closing, all you have to do is remember rule #1: Don't believe the hype!

@uchetobi
Thanks alot!! wink It's most definately a tight ship!

Thanks, Seun! I promisel not wear out my many welcomes!!! grin

Wassup KennyG,

Let me began by saying that i support the Movement. The reason for my exasperation at the time has to do with the.... lack of strategic scope of the organizing commitee. Now me explain. When the Movement was announced, everybody was generally like: "aw hell, here we go again"; except for the NOI, that is. Gradually as the weeks wore on, it was seen that this was *not* going to be just a NOI dog and pony show. There was a huge coalition of Organizations and Institutions. When most of us, the conscious, progressive, Pan African Nationalists, saw that main stream appeal that was being garnered, everybody was pleased. You can check out the site here: http://www.millionsmoremovement.com/index_noflash.html

Especially pleasing was the support that was received by the Progressive National Baptist Convention. That basically translated into the people who worshipped the white (Black Christians) and the people who say the white was created in a test tube( Black Muslims) had finally realized their common problem: the white. The most powerful act to me was the letter sent by Russell Simons, CEO of Def Jam Entertainment, sent to abraham 'sly northern' fox, head of the "jew antidefamation league", openly rebuking him for urging prominent Black Leaders to reconsider their support of the Movement. The nerve of this khazar!

However. As time wore on, it was clear that it was a dog and pony show. The Issues of the Million More Movement, located here: http://www.millionsmoremovement.com/about.htm, also reveal serious issues with the current leadership. Namely, wassup with all these "demands"? Haven't we been doing that for, what 100 years or more? It showed that they were still in mr. white man help me stage. We have enough of capital to fix not only ourselves, but also invest in the Continent. The people with capital access just don't want to compete with the yts on an economic level to redirect what everybody is spending to prop up amerikkka to rebuild our own communities. 750 billion dollars a year and not even a fraction of that set aside for just our use. Crazy. Some would say incompetance. Others would say treason.

The fact that the list of speakers didn't come out until a week before was also a major point of contention, along with the stage insanity that was apparent. Namely, why so many people to talk about core issues Secondly, what da f*ck do entertainers know about anything? I also did not like the fact that all of these people had only 1 or 2 minutes to speak, but farrakhan spoke for a 90 minutes about, well... i won't go there. Suffice to say i'm tired of hearing all this preaching and pep talking. The reports i have recieved so far confirmed the expectations: A massive pep rally/mental masturbation. I'm so sick of negro antics, it's not even funny.

The real action was going on in the crowd. That's where the true power was. Many of the most dynamic leaders were in the crowd networking and organising. I predict that in the coming months, you will began to see a clear division in balck politics here. You'll have to preacher/love-vendor/marcher doing the same old thing and then you'll have the truly dynamic leadership attacking what needs to be attacked and developing the institutions that obviously need to be built. We are the beyond that single leader paradigm now. They can't kill all of Us.

Many think farrakhan needs to have a seat, just be the elder that he is, and leave the real fighting up to people are determined to be free, cause what he doing, and everybody like him, is sitting back getting fat. Include jackson, sharpton, td snakes, eddy "the love-vendor" long, and all these other clowns also.

Please understand you got the watered down version. There is much more to it and even more viewpoints, many more radical than mine.

So, yeah, KennyG, the overwhelming majority of Us support the movement. It's just that leadership has proven to be compromised. Let me know if i answered your concerns. Also, anyone can tune into LIB Radio at www.libradio.com later this week to hear first hand accounts of what happened, the post event analysis, and the actions that will be taken.

Holla!

@vexxy
I accept your welcome and you have my thanks.

It is a hot site, most definately. Thanks for the welcome.

@KennyG
Thank alot! Yeah, I've been busy all weekend which is why I'm late responding. A little luck, yeah; but even more determination and sheer WILL. I will outline my position on the MMM after this reply.

@WesleyanA
Thanks for the welcome. Yes, this business will serve it's purpose. As to whether or not it will be *the* vessal from which to attain the strategic goals I have laid out remains to be seen. We shall see.

You seem to be a smart girl. I'm glad you found The Autobiography "inspiring". I just found out recently that, interestingly enough, Fela did also. I don' t have any advice for you. You seem to know everything already. If you like to read, I have a list of books you may want to check out and analyse. We can discuss them, if you want. Just ask. I think your post exemplifies the attitude alot of Continentals have toward those of us who were born in ameriKKKa. I can't speak for those who were born in the caribbian. That's one of the reasons i decided to invest time into this community. To dispel confusion.

If you want to know what's real, than just ask. Just for clarification, however, I am African. I know from where my blood originates. Furthermore, I know who the real enemy is. It's not the bloods down the street wit the choppas. It's the blue bloods on Wall Street funding the neo-colonists.

Thanks for the Welcome, Everyone. Does anybody know if I can use a journal?

Holla! wink

Greetings, Folks

My name Anton. I'm student and entreprenuer here in ameriKKKa. I have studied High Performance Computing and Computer Enginering Technology. I just want to learn more about the Africans from Continant and your perspective on the issues that affect Us al. Therefore most of my post will be questions.

I am not happy with my condition in life, nor the conditions that face my peeps in the Caribbean, the Americas, and Africa. I have made steps to improve my life, namely reading, studying, going to school (going back, soon!), and creating a company, and now I look to work with others who feel the same way I do, as there are many more steps to take.

Some of the most influencial Elders and Ancestors in my life has been, of course Marcus Mosiah Garvey and:
1 Dr. Amos Wilson
2 Malik El-Hadj Shabazz, Malcolm X
3 Dr Francis Cress Welsing
4 Professor John Henrik Clark
5 Prof. Runoko Rashidi
6 Dr Chiek Anta Diop
7 Chinua Achebe (i aint gonna front, i had to use google to get the spelling right! grin)
* Fela Anikulapo Kuti!!!

I was born in a rural town in North Carolina and didn't know nothing about who I was until I read The Autobiography of Malcolm X. That was when I began the quest to reclaim my African Heritage. But I keep it as trill as possible, remembering that ther is nothing that can hold us back but... us. I also did some time on the federal plantation known as the army.

That's about it, so i'll holla. I posted in the Politic/Future of Nigeria topic. And yall, please don't be mad at me. I might seem critical, but gauranteed i'm infinately more critcal of these buffoons/leading blacks over here. Take this Millions More Movement for instance... i'm not even going to get into it. If somebody asks, i'll break it down for you on request. And any topic concerning the "african americans" that confuses you, drop it on me. If I can't answer than i promise to redirect you to an elder who can.

Greetings, Brothers and Sisters

I'm new to the board and am very interested in conversing with my siblings and elders on the Continant.

Forgive me if I sound impertinent, but what influence did African people have in the creation of the nation of Nigeria? Should the past be taken into account when considering the future?

What is the relationship between the Africans of Nigeria and the surrounding nations? Do any of the posters think that the problems of any African Nation can be solved without support from surrounding nations?

How many of Nigeria's problems would be solved if they said, "F*ck it. We refuse to repay anymore debt"?

I would also like know what are the feeling of Nigerians toward the premise that 'Nigeria, and Africa in general, has problems because the white supremacists *want* them to have problems'.

I know these are loaded questions, but I believe that to answer these questions honestly will Brighten the Future of Our Continant as a whole. If this format is unacceptiable, please inform me of how to correct it, admin.
