A new terror group, Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis-Sudan (JAMBS) has claimed responsibility for Monday’s violent attack on the headquarters of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja. But in a swift response, the police debunked the group’s claim, describing it as ‘false and cheap blackmail to gain publicity.

“It is just an attempt to put wool on the faces of Nigerians, media practitioners, embarrass the government, and embarrass the security agencies and to continue in their campaign to instil fear and psychological trauma on the ordinary Nigerian,” says Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP). Speaking at a media briefing at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Mba called on Nigerians not to give the claims any serious consideration, saying the Police have picked holes in some of the group’s claims.

But in the statement posted via e-mail by JAMBS and signed by its Amir (leader), Abu Usamatal Ansari, the group claimed that the attack was in compliance with a Quranic injunction that urged believers to fight for the oppressed and the feeble. The group’s statement reads: “In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Merciful.

The Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis-sudan is hereby declaring by Allah’s grace to be responsible (sic) for the attack held on 12th Muharram, 1334 -26th November, 2012 on SARS detention facility in Garki Area 11, Abuja, Nigeria. Allah SWT has obliged to help those that are oppressed, especially those oppressions that is (sic) taking place in the security cells, prisons and other detention centres etc. and has become part of the main functions and basics that form Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis-sudan.

“We are stating loud and clear that many of those captured by the Nigerian security by the Christians in Plateau State, such as women and children in Langtang, Yalwan, Shandam etc, to mention but a few, by Allah’s grace, we are marching towards their freedom. “Lastly, we are calling upon all Muslims to come and joined (sic) hands with us in carrying out this noble duty that Allah SWT has commanded us in carrying out this noble act.

Allah SWT said: “And what is the matter with you that you fight not in the cause of Allah and for the feeble among men, and for women and children oppressed…” Nisa’i: 75,” the group stated. But Uba urged the media not to become tools in the hands of criminal elements, who are out there to bask on pseudo achievements and continue to carry out their criminal activities with unbridled impunity.

He assured that the police would continue to live up to their responsibility of protecting lives and property. Mba said the police have fortified their facilities across the country to prevent future attacks from terror groups. “Ordinarily, the police would not have responded to the anonymous information making the rounds by the faceless Jama’aatu Muslimina Fi Biladis-Sudan group, but it was doing so as a responsible organization that is open to transparency. I want to state in very clear terms that those claims are false. Worldwide, the modus operandi of criminal groups once they have carried out an attack or a crime, if they want to claim responsibility, they claim responsibility in a matter of minutes, sometimes in hours.

But you are faced with a situation when this faceless group is coming out to claim responsibility 48 hours after an incident. “I think Nigerians should not give that claim any serious consideration. It is just an attempt to put wool on the faces of Nigerians, media practitioners and embarrass the government, the security agencies and continue in their campaign to instil fear and psychological trauma on the ordinary Nigerian.

“Even from the huge number of suspects they claimed to have released, it is not true because the SARS facility does not have the capacity to take that number they are claiming to have released. You cannot release from a facility a number that the facility cannot hold”, he said

Less than 24 hours after, Rafael Benítez was named interim boss until the end of the season and has now begun the challenge of winning round his new club’s players and fans, something that could be helped by adding a former Stamford Bridge star to his coaching staff.

Rafael Benítez has appointed Boudewijn Zenden as his assistant manager at Chelsea, according to the Dutchman’s father and agent.

Interestingly for the next coach, Di Matteo was also appointed in an interim capacity but stayed on due to his success, albeit only for nine months.

Benitez has proven pedigree, which we know is practically a requirement for Abramovich. Two La Liga titles and a UEFA Cup win with Valencia were followed by his initially very fruitful stewardship at Liverpool, where he won the Champions League, FA Cup and UEFA Super Cup. Liverpool also finished second in the Premier League in the 2008/09 season, their highest finish since 2001/02.

Also with Fernando Torres never quite hitting his stride for Chelsea, there is seemingly no better man to get the best out of him than Benitez.

He signed the striker in 2007 and allowed Torres to flourish, scoring 65 goals in 103 appearances for Liverpool. If Abramovich wants his marquee signing to start firing on all cylinders, then having Rafa around might be just what’s needed.

The interim option is not something Benitez was willing to explore when Andre Villas-Boas was sacked in March, with the Spaniard insisting on at least an 18-month deal.

However if Guardiola cannot be swayed to join Chelsea immediately, then Abramovich may yield to Benitez’s longer contract demands.

His buying and selling track record is not great. Benitez made the move that was viewed by many as the beginning of Liverpool’s decline in 2009/10 when he sold Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid. Alonso was replaced by Alberto Aquilani, who was an unmitigated disaster.

Other questionable arrivals during his Liverpool tenure included Jermaine Pennant (£6m), Ryan Babel (£11.5m), Andrea Dossena (£7m) and Robbie Keane (£19m).

Benitez’s temperament under pressure has come into question on occasion – who can forget the infamous ‘facts’ rant in response to Sir Alex Ferguson during the 2008/09 season.

Finally, he continually had issues with Liverpool’s former owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett – not exactly the ideal candidate for a job at Chelsea under the impatient Abramovich.

Just take a look at his previous post and you will see the truth which I am trying say here. Maybe my approach is wrong, and I am really sorry for this.

I know of a guy who during the PDP reign in EDO stated who was continously used to oppress in powerless, he was used as one of those touts to steal ballot boxes during elections. It even got bad that PDP would charter busess and they will carry these set of people to other neighbouring states to rig election.

What was the result of all this? people were suffering everyday and the then Edo State governor was just ripping the state off. He so painted a picture that we never thought that Edo State has the money to even rehabilitate roads talkless of constructing or building a new one.

Sure people where paid to help them carry out their nefarious acts at the expense of the masses. Lucky Igbinedion was busy erecting building for his own private use, his father on the other hand at one time traveled to London, South Africa and then finally came to Nigeria to celebrate birth day, just birthday.
